Episode XLII: A Magical High
Recap: Sarah's gone back into her body, but she seems to be on a 'magic high', whatever that is.
"Wow, I think I'm on a magic high," said Sarah's voice. Then, she turned from Steph to face the centre of the room. She pointed a finger at the Soul Pit. Black lightning flashed and crackled. Stone grated against stone as the floor shifted to cover the pit.
Sarah looked up at Billie and he noticed that her eyes had dimmed from blue-black, to a shade closer to blue. The scarlet streaks in her hair had faded also.
"Magical high," muttered Billie. What does that mean? What is she doing? Then it hit him.
"Magical high!" he shouted. "She's still got the magical residues of the demon inside her body, she just needs to use it up. At the moment, her mind hasn't taken control; she's running purely on instinct, doing whatever it is she feels like doing. No rules. No interference."
"SHE'S CLOSED MY SOUL PIT!" screamed Ozzy. "It's going to take me FOREVER to open another one."
"The question is," Steph said. "What is it that she feels like doing right now?"
"Good point," said Jack. He nodded in the direction of the cave entrance. "Shall we?"
Steph hesitated, looking over her shoulder at Billie and Sarah.
"I'm not leaving without her," called Billie.
"SHE CLOSED MY SOUL PIT!" screamed Ozzy again.
Sarah held up a hand, not taking her eyes off Billie, and a wall of black rock rose from the ground, boxing Satan away. For the moment.
The streaks in her hair faded even more. Once she'd used up her magic, then she'd be Sarah again, free from her oath. All they needed to do was speed up that using of magic.
But they never got to do anything at all, for within seconds, the cave began to shake. Pebbles began to rattle themselves loose from the walls. There was going to be a cave in.
"Billie!" Jack yelled. "Get Sarah and let's go! There's going to be a cave-in!"
Sarah didn't seem to agree with that suggestion too much. Without so much as twitching a muscle, the rock beneath Jack (and therefore Steph) began to fly at breakneck speed toward the cave entrance. As soon as it was within the tunnel, it stopped, and a wall of stone shot up to cover the entrance. Sarah had locked them out.
"C'mon, Steph, let's go." Jack grabbed Steph's arm and pulled her along the passage.
"But what about Billie and Sarah?" Steph protested. "They'll be trapped in there."
"If the lass don't want Billie ta die, then he wont. She's still brimming with demon magic." They had reached the green meadow, now, and were racing across it toward the cave entrance on the other side.
The walls around them were crumbling. The ceiling way above them cracked open, a sliver of light stabbing through the darkness.
Jack and Steph raced on.
The split widened and the walls around them collapsed. There was no way they were going to reach the opposite tunnel in time. They were out of hope. And yet they ran on.
A colossal stalactite dropped from the ceiling to land mere metres in front of them. Jack pulled Steph around it. Then the roof began to crumble, boulders the size of houses tumbling down, almost crushing them a dozen times. But they prevailed.
Within minutes, tightly packed boulders, a whole new wall, surrounded them. There was no way out.
Steph and Jack spun around frantically, looking for a gap in the rocks, but there was none.
Then the last remnants of the ceiling fell, crashing onto Jack and Steph.
After that, all was black.
Ooooh, do they survive? Does Sarah get Billie out in time? Why did she keep him in there in the first place? Do the Great Magical Feather's of Agadoo have something to do with any of this?
Stay tuned for the next episode to find out!
