Chapter Four: The Flash is Born
"I...am Weather Wizard." Weather Wizard yelled as he sent a wave of wind towards Barry.
Barry ran towards the wind-wave at super speed as he was able to generate enough speed to run through the wave without being hurt, Barry then punched Weather Wizard in the face, the hit sent him flying into a building as he crashed through the glass. Tony flew after the Wizard as he took a while to get there, after a few seconds he hovered above the ground as he landed in front of Barry.
"He's gone." Tony said
"Damn it!"
"How do you have super speed?" Tony asked "What happened to you?"
"I'll explain it at the Stark Tower." Barry said "I have to get Skye."
"But-" Tony was cut off by Barry speeding away from him. "I swear I had a somewhat normal, billionaire, genius kid."
Barry continued running through the streets of New York at super speed as the world slowed down to a stop around him, Barry stopped at a pole as he found Skye standing there with tears in her eyes.
"Barry!" Skye cried as she jumped at Barry, wrapping her arms around him.
"Hey Skye." Barry replied as Skye pulled herself away from Barry.
"What happened? Where were you?" Skye asked "I turned around and you were gone."
"I'll explain it all, I promise." Barry replied "Are you okay?"
"No." Skye said, softly. "You can't scare me like that, Barry. I thought you were kidnapped or even...dead."
"Skye, I'm fine." Barry assured "C'mon, we got to go."
"Where are we going?" Skye asked
"Stark Tower."
Barry picked up Skye and ran from the streets without anyone noticing, he sped through the streets as he entered the tower and went up the stairs. Barry stopped at the top floor, putting Skye down as the hacker faced Barry with shock.
"How can you do that?" Skye asked in shock, her cheeks wet from her tears.
"I think it was the lightning bolt, must have given me powers." Barry said "Why were you crying?"
Skye looked taken back as she glanced at Barry with an angry look.
"I was crying because I was worried about you, Barry!" Skye yelled "I care about you and it hurts me when you're not okay! That's why I was crying, Barry!"
"Sorry, but you shouldn't worry." Barry insisted.
"Yeah, okay." Skye said as she wiped her tears with both her hands.
Barry wanted to comfort Skye, give her a hug and tell her it was okay. I can't do that for her. Barry thought to himself I'm not good enough for her. All I'll do is hurt her, with or without these...powers. I want to-
Barry's thoughts were cut off as Tony and Happy came into the room and sat on the couch and looked at Barry.
"Alright, tell us. How are you so fast?" Happy asked
Barry sat down on the other side of the couch as Skye came next to him, gripping his hand tight. Barry had eventually finished explaining to Happy and Tony what had happened to him and how he may have gotten his powers as Skye gripped his hand firmly through the entire conversation, Tony was the first to recover from the shock of the conversation.
"You can't go back to S.H.I.E.L.D." Tony said, firmly.
"Why not?" Barry asked
"Why not? Why frickin' not?!" Tony yelled "'Cause I said so, that's why! S.H.I.E.L.D. will use you as their right-hand man and weapon, they'll ruin you. Do you know what will happen to you if you do this? They will 'index' you, experiment on you and lock you in a cage, like an animal. No one is locking my son in a cage, no one! Not S.H.I.E.L.D, not Skye, not Happy, not my parents, not your parents, not even you, no one! DO YOU HEAR ME?! NO ONE!"
The room was quiet, save for Tony's deep breathing, as Happy, Barry and Skye looked at Tony in shock of his anger. Barry had a more calm look, compared to Skye and Happy's. He knew that Tony was just being overprotective of Barry, Tony had spent the past 12 years of his life raising Barry and he wanted to do it right. Plus, Tony had just gotten Barry back from his 9-month-coma. Barry knew that as he smiled at Tony's words. It's good having a father who was right in front of you. Barry thought.
"You're not gonna lose me again, Tony." Barry said in soft tone. "I'm glad you're worried, I am your son. Look, all I want to do is tell S.H.I.E.L.D. what I can do. No index, not tests, none of that. Just telling them what I can do."
Tony breathed a deep sigh as he looked down, he then looked back up as he set his drink down and stood up.
"Alright, fine." Tony said, agreeing to Barry's idea. "But if someone even says the word 'index', I'll throw them out of that damn Helicarrier and drown them in the ocean. Same goes if anyone tries to get a needle within 5 feet of you. No exceptions, done and done."
Barry smiled at Tony.
"I'm counting on it." Barry replied
"Talk about an overprotective dad." Skye said, wiping her tears from her eyes.
"Well excuse me, for not trusting a secret spy organization with my son." Tony replied sarcastically.
"No Tony, this is good. You're not just playing 'dad' here, you're playing 'bodyguard'." Happy said
"Isn't that your job?" Barry asked
"Hey, I'm also his best friend." Happy argued
"Enough!" Tony declared "When are we doing this...thing?"
"Right...now?" Barry said in a small tone.
"Ugh, if only you hadn't been struck by that lightning bolt." Tony groaned
"I'm coming with you." Skye said "If you and Ward get into a fight, somebody has to take the mantle of stopping you two from trying to kill each other. Besides, I'm a bit familiar with S.H.I.E.L.D. stuff. I can help you."
"Alright." Barry agreed
"When's the Quinjet coming in?" Tony asked
Skye's watch beeped as she looked at her wrist in surprise.
"It's already here." Skye replied in shock. "They must have been watching you."
"I swear, one of these days...S.H.I.E.L.D. better leave me alone." Barry groaned as he, Skye and Tony left the room and headed for the helipad.
On the helipad, Dr. Wells, Caitlin, Jemma and a woman came from the hangar door as they met Skye, Barry and Tony (who was in his Mark Vll Iron Man suit).
"Barry Allen." the woman said "I'm Agent Maria Hill with S.H.I.E.L.D, I'm here to take you in."
"Take me in for what?" Barry demanded, that too in a very stern tone, whereas Hill's was a bit soft.
"Indexing and-." Jemma was cut off by Tony interrupting her.
"Hey, British woman." Tony interrupted "Do yourself a favor, like I don't know: not getting thrown off the top of a building, and don't even dream of finishing that sentence."
"Stark, be nice." Hill said as Tony rolled his eyes and ignored what the agent said.
"Well, I could see that coming." Caitlin muttered under her breath.
"Dr. Allen." Wells said as he rolled his wheelchair in front of Barry. "We, or in this case: I, don't want to do tests on or index you. I want to train you, teach you how to use your abilities. You can help your city, be it's guardian angel. You, Barry, have that chance. I promise you that S.H.I.E.L.D. will not index you or run tests."
"Dr. Wells, these tests are important." Caitlin argued "If his blood can heal him, it can heal god-knows-how-many-"
"I'm gonna stop you there, Dr. Snow." Wells interrupted "Yes, his blood can heal at amazing speeds. But while, you may want to study his blood or give it to others it is his blood, his choice."
Caitlin the turned to Barry, hoping his answer would match with Caitlin's desire.
"Look, I'm okay with you guys training me and all that." Barry said "No offense, but just because you guys are S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn't mean I can trust you. I mean, I am grateful you guys saved my life but I hacked you guys when I was 14. Skye hacked you guys from her van, no offense Skye."
"It's fine." Skye insisted
"If someone bad gets their hands on this, it could be dangerous. You've shown me that you're not the most secure or trustworthy organization, in fact you may be the least trustworthy." Barry said as Hill, Caitlin and Jemma listened in shock. "Training me to use my speed and that's it, nothing more and nothing less. Those are my terms."
"There's no way-" Caitlin was cut off by Wells.
"We'll do it." Wells said "Train you and you're good."
"Like a field agent?" Hill asked
"More like a...a superhero." Wells said "Dr. Allen has made it pretty clear that he doesn't want much to do with S.H.I.E.L.D. We will obey his wishes, besides, there are other ways of studying him that match with his terms."
"Dr. Wells," Jemma said "I don't think these terms-"
"-are a problem." Wells interrupted quickly "Right Dr. Simmons?"
It was quiet for moment before Jemma finally sighed and held her hands together.
"Of course, Dr. Wells." Jemma replied
"Well then," Wells said as he faced Barry. "Shall we?"
"Let's go, guys." Barry said as he, Skye, Caitlin and Jemma got into the Quinjet as Tony flew in his suit.
The Quinjet was quiet for moment until Jemma broke the silence.
"Dr. Allen, can I ask you a question?" Jemma asked
"You just did, wanna ask me another one?" Barry teased
"Of course." Jemma replied as she, Barry and Skye burst out laughing. "How did you manage to create that solution? The one when you were 15?"
"Well the cloning process for cellular mitosis in human blood is pretty simple really, but I swear there was way too much of using an ultra-centrifuge on blood." Barry said
"Why would you need an ultra-centrifuge?" Jemma asked
"I need more centrioles in the cells." Barry said
"To help with the solution, because centrioles help with the creation of chromosomes during cellular mitosis." Jemma realized
"Yep." Barry said
"That's genius!" Jemma said
"I could've done that." Caitlin said in a cold tone.
"I don't doubt it." Barry replied
"Sure, rich kid." Caitlin muttered
"Alright that's it, what's your problem with me?" Barry demanded "What's your damage?"
"My damage?" Caitlin asked as she moved closer to Barry. "My damage...is that people like you can do whatever you want and you don't give a damn about anyone else. All you life, when have you ever done anything that wasn't for you?!"
Barry stared at Caitlin in shock of her words. She's wrong. Barry thought She know nothing about who you really are.
"See?!" Caitlin continued yelling "You only care about and fight for yourself, every bad thing that's happened to you! YOU DESERVE IT!"
"CAITLIN!" Dr. Wells snapped "Sit down, now!"
It was quiet for a moment, until Caitlin obliged as she sat back down and strapped herself to her seat.
"I understand you're angry and upset about Ronnie, but that will never, not in a billion years, give you the right to do what you just did." Dr. Wells said "Apologize, now."
"No, Dr. Wells, it's fine." Barry insisted as he looked at Caitlin with sympathy. "I don't know who Ronnie is, but I am sorry about him. You seem to care a great deal about him."
"Thank you." Caitlin replied softly "I'm sorry, I was out of line. I shouldn't have said what I did, what's happened to you...you deserve better."
"So do you." Barry replied
Skye looked at Barry as Barry looked back at her.
"What?" Barry asked softly.
"Nothing." Skye replied "It's just that...you're just a good guy."
"I'm trying to be." Barry said
"You already are, Barry." Skye insisted
"Not exactly," Barry said "but I'm hoping that one day...maybe I can be."
Skye gripped Barry's hand as Barry gazed into Skye's eyes. The two were quiet as they continued looking until Skye broke the silence.
"What're you doing?" Skye asked
"Nothing." Barry replied
"You two are some weird lovebirds." Clint said from the pilot's seat.
"Shut up, Clint!" Skye and Barry yelled simultaneously.
"Alright, jeez. Give me a break." Clint replied
"We're here." Caitlin said as she looked out the window and saw the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier on the water.
The Quinjet landed on the top of the carrier as Barry, Skye, Caitlin, Jemma, Dr. Wells and Clint made their way out of the Quinjet's hangar. Tony eventually joined Barry as the group headed down by the elevator. When they reached their desired floor, they exited the elevator and reached a sort of training area. The team looked around as they saw a ramp that led up to a sort of closed circle for running.
"This place have a name?" Tony asked
"We call it the 'Speed Lab'." a man said from behind.
"Cisco...right?" Barry said pointing to Cisco at the door.
"Yes, Dr. Allen." Cisco replied
"Please, call me Barry." Barry insisted
"Barry." Cisco said softly as he nodded his head. "Cool."
"Well, Dr. Allen." Wells finally said "Care to show us how fast you are?"
"Right." Barry replied as he ran up the ramp and inside the speed track.
Barry kept running in the large circle as fast as he could. Suddenly, Barry felt orange-yellow lightning coming off of his body. Barry kept running even faster and faster as Cisco recorded Barry's speeds on one of the computers.
"Mach 2." Cisco said
"Already?" Jemma asked
"Hmm, his exact speed is..." Tony trailed off as he looked at the board in shock. "This can't be right."
"How fast is he?" Skye asked
"2000 miles per hour." Wells said as he gave a look of surprise. "That's-"
"Mach 2.6" Caitlin said, finishing Wells' sentence
"Is that really fast?" Skye asked
"No, of course not..." Tony said sarcastically "...he only managed to go at Supersonic speed in less than 24 hours of waking up from a coma after being struck by lightning!"
"That's ridiculously fast." Skye replied in shock.
Barry came running down the ramp as he his foot slid out of control, Barry hit his arm on the ground as he fell and slid down the ramp in pain, clutching his arm as tight as he could.
"Argh!" Barry groaned in pain
"Barry!" Skye cried as she, Jemma, Caitlin and Tony went by his side.
"Barry, you okay?" Tony asked
"I think so." Barry replied
"Is it your arm?" Skye asked "Is it broken?"
"We need to get him to our lab." Caitlin said
"Cool." Cisco muttered under his breath.
"Not cool!" Barry, Tony, Skye, Caitlin, Jemma and Wells said simultaneously.
1 hour later
S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier
The Lab
Barry held the wrist of his injured arm, it had felt much better in the past 15 minutes.
"So, what happened with my arm?" Barry asked
"Your wrist fractured and your arm was broken from your fall." Jemma answered
"It doesn't feel broken." Barry said, looking at his arm in confusion.
"That's because it's healed, in just 45 minutes." Caitlin said, lifting up an I-pad that showed Barry's healed arm.
"How's that even possible?" Skye asked
"We don't know." Caitlin responded as she and Jemma went back to their desks.
At that moment, Fury and Coulson entered the room as Wells, Tony, Barry and Skye turned to face them.
"Sir?" Coulson called
"Yes, Agent Coulson?" Fury asked "What do you need?"
"I'm just curious, why haven't we put Dr. Allen through the indexing?" Coulson asked
"Alright, that's it." Tony said as he looked around the room. "I'm gonna get get my suit, and I'm gonna-"
"-throw him out of carrier and drown him in the ocean, we know." Barry and Skye said simultaneously as they turned to face each other in shock.
Coulson, Fury, Tony and everyone in the room stared at the two in shock and surprise as Cisco chuckled.
"You two read each other's minds." Cisco said, chuckling.
"Dr. Allen, how was your training?" Fury asked
"Pretty well." Barry said
"Didn't you have a broken arm?" Coulson asked
"Healed in 45 minutes." Tony replied
Coulson stared at Tony and then turned his head to Barry.
"Dr. Allen, please. We'll need to index you, the process-" Coulson was interrupted by Barry.
"Look, I know how you do things here." Barry interrupted "Not a fan. People like you are just afraid of people like me, anytime we try to prove to you that we mean no harm, you take advantage of that. That's all I see in S.H.I.E.L.D., people who have resources and take advantage of that. I'm only here so I can learn how to use my speed and that's it. After that, I'm done with S.H.I.E.L.D. I don't want anything to do with it."
There was a moment of silence as everyone in the room had their eyes on either Barry or Fury. Fury then stepped forward as he met Barry's gaze.
"Alright, Doctor." Fury sighed "We'll do this your way."
Fury then turned to face Dr. Wells.
"Dr. Wells, please train Dr. Allen, here." Fury commanded, the disappointment in his tone was clear. "We're through after that."
Fury and Coulson then exited the room with Jemma and Caitlin. Skye, Cisco and Tony all looked and stared at Barry.
"What?" Barry asked
"Nothing." Skye replied quickly. "Nice speech."
"Thanks." Barry said as alarms blared on the ship.
"What's going on?" Tony asked
"That would be the enhanced alert." Cisco said as he, Tony and Skye ran out of the room.
Barry followed the trio at normal human speed as they all reached the control room. Barry looked at all the scientists working on their computers, Barry then looked at the big-screen monitor as he stared in shock while he saw a man who appeared to be controlling a tornado of dust and wind.
"Weather Wizard." Barry muttered
"Cool name." Cisco said
"What's going on?" Hill said as she entered the room.
"We've got an enhanced in Central City, he's got winds of 275 mph." one of the people at the computers said.
"How do we put him down?" Fury asked as everyone was suddenly silent.
"I can do it." Barry said quickly.
"Barry, no!" Skye begged
"Are you insane?!" Tony yelled "You can't beat a tornado, Barry."
"I don't have to." Barry replied as he turned to face the monitor. "I just have to beat the person controlling it."
Barry then dashed out of the room in a flash of orangish-yellow lightning.
"Barry!" Skye cried as she turned to face Fury. "You have to get him, he'll die!"
"We can't get to him at his speed, Skye." Wells said as he looked at one of the computers that was tracking Barry. "He's on the water."
"We don't have any Quinjets out." Hill said
"And there's no way he could've taken my suit, I would've known." Tony said
Wells then gave realizing look as Fury noticed
"What is it, Doc?" Fury asked
"Barry." Wells replied as he turned his head towards Fury. "He's running on water."
"Is that even possible?" Skye asked
"Well, given his weight, he only needs to go at roughly Mach One." Cisco explained "He can go 2.6 times that fast, so yes, he can run on water."
"Damn smart kid." Fury said
"Yeah, it's ingenious." Cisco said, smiling.
"No, I mean he took my comms." Fury corrected.
Skye then typed into the computers as she pressed one of the buttons on it and called for Barry.
"Barry?" Skye called into the comms channel.
"Skye? Is that you?" Barry asked
"It's me." Skye confirmed.
"Skye, I'm here. I'm at Central City." Barry said into the comms channel as he looked at Weather Wizard in shock. "What do I do?"
"Barry." Wells said into the channel. "You need to counteract that tornado while de-powering him."
"How do I do that?" Barry asked
"Do you see the direction of the tornado?" Wells asked into the channel.
"Yeah!" Barry shouted as the tornado roared through the streets of Central City.
"Run around it in the opposite direction, the winds from your speed and the tornado should cancel out and overpower Weather Wizard." Wells said
"Are you sure about that?" Barry asked into the comms channel.
"I'm sure." Wells replied "Now run, Barry. Run."
Barry dashed towards the tornado as he circled it in the opposite direction as fast as he could, the world appeared to slow down around him as Barry ran as fast as he could with orange-yellow lightning coming off of him. Barry kept running as Skye watched back on Helicarrier, with her hand over her mouth. Please don't die, please don't die. Skye begged in her thoughts. Barry kept running around the tornado as the winds weakened, Weather Wizard tried to make more winds but all his attempts were unsuccessful as lightning from Barry's body struck him until he dropped to the ground, losing consciousness. Barry stopped running, 10 feet away from Weather Wizard's body - he was dead. Barry stared in shock as he ran away from the city, on the water and entered the control room as Skye was the first person to notice.
"Barry!" Skye cried as she jumped onto Barry, wrapping her arms around him.
Skye then pulled herself from him and noticed the small cuts on his head as she lightly touched them with her fingers.
"Are you okay?" Skye asked "Are you hurt?"
"I'm fine, I'm okay." Barry replied as he faced Dr. Wells. "Thank you, Doctor Wells."
"Of course, Barry." Wells said as he nodded.
"Dude, that was awesome." Cisco said
"Really, Spanish cowboy?" Tony said
"Spanish cowboy?"
"Best I could come up with."
"Anyways." Cisco said as he turned to face Barry. "You are so gonna be getting a suit and a name."
"Oh well I've got a good name." Wells said as everyone in the room turned their attention to him. "How about...The Flash?"
"The Flash?" Tony asked
"Because he get's thing done-" Wells said as he snapped his fingers. "-in a flash."
"Sounds cool." Barry said as he turned to face Skye. "I gotta get back to Central City, wanna come with me?"
"Really?" Skye asked
"Yeah, I could use some help." Barry said.
"Can I come too?" Caitlin asked from the doorway. "I know after what I've done, I don't deserve it."
"No it's fine, you can come." Barry replied as he turned and faced Cisco. "You wanna-"
"Oh yes please." Cisco interrupted.
"I'd like to join you." Wells said
"Really?" Barry asked. "You'd come?"
"Of course." Dr. Wells said "I may be a S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist, but someone's gonna have to train you harder."
"I'd be honored for you to train me, Dr. Wells." Barry replied.
"Okay, 'Team Flash'." Tony said "We're gonna get you guys to a Quinjet en route to Central City."
Okay, that's it for this chapter. For Barry's suit, imagine the season two suit (the one with the white emblem). You heard me right, season two not season one. I honestly hated that suit, in the next chapter: I will be bringing in all the Avengers: Thor, Cap, Tony, Nat, Hulk, Clint, Barry, Batman, Superman and Oliver. Hope you liked this chapter, please send a review and I'll see you in the next one.
