At the same time, when the two servants were summoned, another summons was in progress.

On the margins of the Savannah River, a woman nearing her thirty-five with beautiful dark brown hair was washing various clothes.

With years of practice the woman scrubbed each garment and then rinsed with unparalleled efficiency, after a while, the woman finished washing all the clothes in the basket.

Lowering her head, she looked down at her hands, the beautiful hands she once had, reduced to nothing more than a skinny hand full of calluses.

Checking to see if there were any more clothes to wash in the second basket, the woman was shocked to see something from the past, the clothes of the man who had once been her husband, but who was betrayed and brutally killed by his best friend.

With trembling hands the woman picked up the beige male shirt, for a while holding the shirt and staring at it, wondering how there could be anything left of him after all these years.

With the woman's total focus on the shirt, she didn't notice a figure sneaking up from the trees behind her.

The figure getting closer, took the form of a child, getting close enough, the child jumped up and attacked the woman.

"AAAAAA" The woman screaming from the sudden attack.

Hearing a childish giggle the woman looked down at her waist, only to find the small arms of a child she knew very well.

"Sarah! For God's sake, don't ever do that again" The woman said to the child by the name of Sarah.

"That was very funny mom! You needed to see your face" Sarah finding it funny at the fright her mother took.

"Funny just for you young lady! What if I had hit you with a gun?" The mother scolds her daughter's thoughtless action.

The daughter is saddened by her mother's scolding: "I'm sorry, I won't do it again!".

The mother is happy with her daughter's attitude "I'm proud of you Sarah, but don't do this to your brother or Shane.".

"Mom, why do you call Dad by his name?" The girl never understood why her mother talked about her father not being her father.

"Shane is not your father Sarah, your father died a long time ago" The woman's face darkened and turned to the floor.

Sarah felt bad, for having made her mother remember bad things, she came close and hugged her.

The mother felt her daughter's body hugging her, she soon hugged her.

"Daughter, I want you to know that your father was an amazing man, but was betrayed by the one he trusted the most, in the world we live in you can only trust me and your brother understood?" The mother tries to pass on an important lesson to her daughter about this cruel world they lived in.

The daughter, confused as to what her mother meant, quickly replies, "But there are so many nice people at home.

"Just say you understand Sarah!" The mother speaking in a loud tone to the child.

Sarah, surprised that her mother had spoken loudly to her, nodded in agreement.

"Good, now help me with this basket you little girl took" The mother smiling at her daughter.

The girl soon smiled at her mother's request, picking up the empty basket of clothes, both setting off back to the place they called home.

Walking along the margins of the river for five minutes, mother and daughter arrived at their house, high walls made of tree trunks surrounded a large area, inside were two huge houses.

"Ethan, open the gate, it's me Lori" Shouted the woman named Lori.

Then a man appeared on top of the walls, seeing Lori "What were you two doing out there?" Questioned the man.

Lori rolled her eyes "I just went to do laundry in the river and Sarah came to help me".

"Okay! Just a minute Lori" Ethan said, getting down from the wall and opening the gate.

With the gates open, Ethan again appears saying "I'm going to need to search both of you before you go in".

Not wanting to waste any more time "Right! Just do it!" Said Lori not liking the situation one bit.

Ethan quickly goes to search mother and daughter, in less than a minute, finishing the inspection.

"Right! You guys are clean, you can go in" Said the interrogator.

Lori and Sarah soon entering "Daughter go get your brother for lunch" Lori asked.

"Okay mom!" The girl ran out looking for her brother.

Lori turned her attention to Ethan "What's the point of wanting to stop our entrance, just because we left?" Questioning the inspection at the gate.

"Shane's orders, after those twins came in here with a knife and almost killed him, no one comes in here without inspection" Answering the question Lori.

"I understand" Answered Lori in an angry tone.

"Look, I don't like to do these things, but Shane is the leader and I just follow orders" The young man tries to show sympathy about the whole situation.

"You are his wife, try talking to him about it, who knows he might listen to you" Ethan suggested to Lori.

"I'm not his wife!" Lori said nervously, without giving the young man time to respond, she hurried off, leaving a confused Ethan.

Arriving home, Lori left the laundry basket on the porch and set off towards a vegetable garden near her house, there she met an elderly gentleman.

"Hershel!" Calling the man by his name.

The old man taking his attention away from the vegetable garden "How are you Lori! Do you want anything from the vegetable garden?".

"I'll have three tomatoes and a lettuce" Answered the man.

Hershel quickly picked up all the vegetables and put them in a basket "Here you go!"

"Thank you!" Lori thanked the old man, leaving for his house, but stopping and returning to the vegetable garden.

"Do you want anything else?" Old Hershel asked.

Lori looked at him with wet eyes "I need some advice Hershel...please" Hershel approached the woman to see what was happening to her.

"Tell me Lori, how can I help you?" Spoke the gentle old man.

"I can't take it anymore, every day I wake up seeing the face of the murderer of my son's father and having to pretend I like him" Lori vented about the sham that was her current "marriage".

"You must endure it! Not for you, but for your children" Hershel continued.

"Carl is already a teenager and will soon become a man, Sarah will also reach adolescence and know how to defend herself from the horrors of this world."

"But I can't take all this suffering anymore," Lori said wistfully.

"Find the strength to endure it! I don't like Shane either, I'd kill him if I could, but I don't have that luxury, he keeps this place safe and this place is the only home my last living daughter knows! It's better to suffer here than to suffer outside Lori!".

Hershel continued more softly, "We all have crosses to bear, some are bigger than others, but yet people continue to bear them, for it is that or death."

The woman after listening to the wise words of the old man stood still without moving a muscle.

"We must be strong Lori, not for ourselves, but for those we love" Hershel finished and hugged her.

Staying embraced for a minute, Lori cried in despair, sadness and grief. All thrown out in a minute of tears.

Lori coming out of the embrace "I will be strong, I will not give up now!" She said with conviction and renewed cheer.

"Well done!" Hershel, happy that he was able to help Lori, looked up at the sky, he saw dark clouds forming so early "Shane and the boys should be back early today, don't let him realize there is something different about you" Warning her, to be prepared.

"Thanks for everything Hershel!" The woman said grateful for the advice and the warning.

Grabbing the basket of vegetables, she left for her house, starting to prepare lunch.

Some time later, with lunch laid on the table, her children next arrive to eat.

"Aren't we going to wait for Shane?" Sarah said.

Lori was surprised by her daughter's words "He'll eat as soon as he arrives, we can't keep waiting for him!".

"You're supposed to eat all the vegetables young lady" Lori said to the naughty girl who didn't like vegetables.

"But mom, it tastes so bad" Sarah tried to dialogue with her mother about the terrible taste of vegetables.

"If you eat all the vegetables, I'll stay awhile and play with you, do we have a deal?" She negotiated with her older brother.

"Really Carl? Deal done" Quickly the girl began to devour the vegetables.

The mother gave a soft smile seeing the good relationship between the brothers, but as if fate was against her, someone entered the house and slammed the door hard.

"I've arrived at the best time by the looks of it!" Said a tall man with a strong build.

"Dad," Sarah said, running towards the man.

"How are you my favorite young lady?" Said the man as he took the girl on his lap.

"Let her go Shane, you're all dirty!" Said Lori in a grave tone.

Everyone in the room surprised by the matriarch's scream "Right Lori! No need to yell" Shane said, letting go of the girl, taking the seat at the head of the table.

After that, during lunch "So, how was your day?" Shane asked.

"Mom and I went to the river and I gave her a scare" The girl began.

"How loud did she scream?" Shane said in a good mood.

"Yes! you should have seen her face Shane" said the girl laughing.

Shane stopped all movement, looking with a frightened face at Sarah.

"Why didn't you call me dad Sarah?" said Shane with a hint of anger.

The girl was scared after hearing Shane's question, but answered anyway "Mom said you're not my dad and told her to call you Shane."

"Go up to your room now" Shane ordered angrily.

"But I'm not finished yet-" Without giving Sarah time to finish speaking.

"GET UP NOW" Shane shouted.

The frightened girl ran off the table, up the stairs, and hid in her room.

An eerie silence took over the room after Sarah left.

"Why do you keep doing this to me, always looking at me with that disgusted face, always talking behind my back and now telling MY daughter that I'm not her father!" Shane said with hatred and anger.

"I've done everything to protect you, done things that would make even a demon afraid, all for what?" Shane's words are growing stronger and stronger in hate and anger.

"Clek clek" The sound of breaking glass taking over the room.

Shane stood up from the table, ignoring the shards of glass piercing his hand, starting to slowly walk towards Lori.

"You know Lori, you contribute the least to the community, you stand here pretending to be a housewife while other people do everything to make this work" Shane continued.

"You know we have zero tolerance for dead weight" But before Shane could continue.

Carl grabbed the knife from the table, jumped on Shane's back, trying to pierce Shane's head with the object.

A frantic struggle ensued with Shane trying to get rid of Carl and at the same time prevent him from piercing his head.

Lori is in shock at the situation, remaining motionless in her chair.

The fight continued frantically, until Shane slammed his back against the wall several times, Carl not being able to take it anymore, broke free from Shane's back, falling badly bruised to the floor.

"Until you betrayed me, Carl," Shane shouted, already on the verge of insanity.

Spitting blood, but raising his head, he looked straight into the man's eyes and said "I know what you did to my father at the farm, I will never forget it and I will never let you hurt anyone in my family again.

Stopping for a moment after hearing Carl's words, but soon insanity takes control of his mind again.

"Of course you know! How could a smart kid like you not know!" Shane said maniacally.

Grabbing a knife from the table, the man started walking towards Carl "Today you and your mother will pay Rick a visit in hell" Spoke the maniac.

Without anyone in the room even noticing, the blood red tattoos on Shane's right hand slowly began to fade.

Outside the house, dark clouds took over the sky, lightning was falling everywhere, as if the heavens themselves were pouring out their wrath on the mortals.

Inside the house, Shane slowly walked towards Carl, with the intention of ending his life.

When the monster reached the side of the teenager's body, he raised his knife and was about to end the boy's life.

"STAY OUT OF MY SON!" Shouted Lori, attacking the man with a knife, but the man reacted quickly, blocking with his arm, thus avoiding a fatal injury.

"Damn" Shane shouted, turning to an unarmed Lori, the much stronger man punched her in the face.

The woman falling to the ground, her nose broken and bleeding.

The man turned his attention back to the teenager, going to finish what he started.

The woman on the floor, looking on, horrified at the murder of her son.

"The helpless mother saying these words hoping that someone would listen.

At that very instant, a blood red tattoo appeared on Lori's right hand in the shape of a broken heart.

Outside the house, the lightning storm intensified even more, the people in the camp terrified of a giant cloud of lightning forming above them, until all they could hear was a "BOOM" and see a giant bolt of lightning strike one of the houses.

"Say Hi, to Rick when you get to hell" The monster lowered the knife into the defenseless teenager.

"No!" screamed the distraught mother, followed by her scream, the room glowed with lightning.

Lori was temporarily blinded by the intensity of the light, but as time passed the light dimmed, revealing a scene Lori would never forget in her life.

Shane's body splitting in two halves, falling to the ground like a rotten apple.

A beautiful woman with long black hair in a rock-strewn outfit suddenly appeared in the room.

"Servant Class, Berserk, answer your call" Said the mysterious woman.
