Descendants 3 Chapter 9

Episode 11

Cursed Names:

Lyra Jones – Candace

Lena Gold – Elizabeth

Will Parry – Billy

Roland Hood – Hunter

Hope Hood – Nadia Turner

Will Parry had a very peculiar dream from his foster home in Olympia, Washington. He was back in HH and there was a beat growing in the background. Suddenly, he began singing, rapidly:

"Lights up on Hyperion Heights,
Up at the break of day
I wake up and got this little punk I gotta chase away.
"

The 'punk' was his roommate/foster brother, Charlie, whom he scooted out of his room. What was he doing in HH?

"Pop the grate and the crack of dawn,"

He opened up the blinds. He was in the same apartment complex as Jacinda and Lyra/Candace.

"Sing while wipe down the awning.
Hey y'all, good morning.
" He looked straight ahead for that line.

He started trotting down the small apartment.

"I am Will Parry and you've probably never heard my name.
Reports of my fame are greatly exaggerated.
"

He knocked over a copy of The Subtle Knife book on the kitchen shelf.

"Exasperated by the fact they my syntax is highly complicated 'cause I immigrated from the single greatest little place in Europe:
Oxford.
I love it!
"

He took a moment to realize how weird that line was. Oxford is one of the most expensive places in Europe. And he didn't exactly immigrate. He ended up here by curse. But whatever. It goes with the beat of the song.

"Jesus, I'm jealous of it
And beyond that
Ever since my mom passed on
I haven't gone back.
Ah man, I gotta get on that
."

He went over to a memorial for his mom on the table against a corner of the room.

He headed out the door, continuing to verse in the hallway.

"I'm getting tested,
Times are tough on with this fear.
Six months ago we all ended up here.
"

That wasn't entirely true. It had been longer than that now.

He waved to Jacinda and Sabine in the hallway and got in the elevator. They nodded back to him as they got ready for work too. When he arrived in the lobby, he continued the song.

"Our neighbors started packing up and picking up
And ever since the rent's went up
It's gotten mad expensive
But we live with just enough.
"

He arrived outside. Other members of the Heights began singing from their apartments with their windows open.

"In the Heights,
I flip the lights and start my daaaay.
"

"There are fights," one member sang.

"And endless debts," Nadia/Hope sang. She looked at a letter in her hands, while sitting at a bench.

"And bills to paaaaay." Elizabeth/Lena sang. Elizabeth looked at their electricity bill for the month.

"In the Heights
I can't survive with cafe
," a group of residents sang.

"I serve cafeeee," Will said. He was suddenly in the coffee shop, Beanies, with a green apron on and a name tag, "Billy."

'"Cause tonight seems like a million years away
In Hyperion
-" the ensemble continued to sing.

Will took his cue to start singing again. "Me and these guys working just another coffee shop,
And
People come through for a few good drinks
Just a part of a routine.
"

The line was getting long with customers out the door. Candace, Elizabeth, Nadia, Jacinda, Sabine, and Roni were among the customers.

"Everybody's got a job
Everybody's got a dream
." His coworker sang on key.

Will looked over to her and nodded.

Half the customers were in their uniforms. Candace had a vest for her internship. There were a couple doctors and nurses in line. Mr. Samdi was there too, in a suit. Ivy was in the front of the line.

"The first stop as people hop to work
Bust it - I'm like:
Three dollars, four dollars, four fifty, five sixty nine, I got it.
You want extra whip cream? What kind?
That's two quarters.
Two grande waters. The New York Times.
You need a bag for that? The tax is added
."

The customers went by quickly over the next hour. Elizabeth took her two teas and left the store. Jacinda took her iced coffed and left in a hurry. When Nadia grabbed her drink, Will winked at her, but she didn't seem interested. The song was still going on. Will continued singing in this dream.

"Once you get some practice at it
You do rapidly mathematics automatically
And practically everybody's stressed. Yes!
"

He took he break, tossing a wash cloth to a co-worker. He started out the door.

"But they press through the mess and wonder what's next."

Once outside, the residents began to all sing, "In the Heights,
I buy my coffee and I gooo.
"

Candace grabbed a tray of coffee and headed to the hospital.
"I buy my coffee and-" she sang.

"Set my sights
On only what I need to know.
" The ensemble sang.

"In the Heights,
Money is tight
But even soooo-
"

"Even so," Nadia added. She sang from her small apartment.

"When the lights go down I blast my radiooo!" The residents sang. Lucy was dancing around her room.
"In Hyperion-"

Will walked down the street the Heights. Others were coming outside too.
"I'm switching up the beat
Cause my mama came with nothing.
I got a little more.
But sure, we're poor.
Hey,
This place is real obscure
." He looked around the place. All of his friends. So many familiar faces, yet they don't recognize him.

He looked up at one building to see a girl in the window, staring at him. She was about Leia's age. He looked down at the building to see the name of it. It was the Hyperion Mental Facility.

"It's all about the legacy they left with me
It's destiny
."

The residents came out into the streets and started dancing in synchronization.
"In the Heights,
I hang my flag up on displaaaay
."

Many residents waved a flag around. There was one for Mexico, Italy, Spain, Russia, Cuba, Romania, France, and many others.

"It reminds my that I came from miles awaaaay." They sang.

The girl in the asylum was singing too. She pounded on the windows singing 'miles away.'

Elizabeth came out this an Ireland flag, waving it around. Jacinda had a Dominican Republic flag in her hand. Many residents had United Kingdom flags, including Candace and Tilly.

"In the Heights," they all sang and danced.

Nadia stepped forward. "Every day paciencia ye fe."

Will stood next to her.

"In the Heights," every sang. "I've got today."

Will scooted forward as he sang the next verse. "And today's all we got,
So we cannot stop. This is our block."

They were near the town's movie theater. It was glowing! No one else seemed to notice besides Will.
"In the Heights
I hang my flag up on displaaaay
," they sang.

"It reminds my that I came from miles awaaaay!"

"Miles awaaaay," Hope sang.

Tilly and Elizabeth put their mini flags down and grabbed one end of a large rainbow flag. Two other teenage girls helped them with the large flag. One of them was the girl from the asylum! They ran with it and the flag flew over the residents singing the song.

"In the Heights,
It gets more expensive every daaay."

"Every daaay," Roni sang.

"And tonight is so far away," everyone sang together.

"But as for manana, you'll see,
You just gotta keep watching
." Will said.

The next theta kept singing "In the Heights" while he continued. "The late nights,
You'll taste beans and rice
And syrups and shave ice
I ain't gonna say it twice
So sure up the sage lights!
We're taking a flight
To a couple of days in the light
Of what it's like
."

Everyone sang the lady line together. "In Hyperion Heights!"

Will got up with a startle. What a weird dream. He looked over his phone. "In the Heights" soundtrack was on his play-list.

He sat and wrote down what happened in the dream. As strange as it was, he felt like the dream was important. He had to document it before he forgot it.

Eloise Gardner (Mother Gothel) knocked on Candace and Elizabeth's door in the morning in Hyperion Heights. Elizabeth opened the door in her pajamas. Candace was in the living room, eating her pop tart breakfast. "Hello?" Elizabeth asked.

"Hi," Eloise said. She had a British accent. "I'm Eloise Gardner."

"I heard about you on the news." Elizabeth said.

"Yes. It's good to be free again." Eloise said.

"What brings you here?" Elizabeth asked. She still held the door so Eloise couldn't see inside their apartment.

"I represent a group of very special girls. Girls who have a particular gift. I believe you both have that gift." She said.

"What gift would that be?" Elizabeth asked, unintrigued.

"You must not have activated those powers here yet." Eloise said, tilting her head to the side.

"Powers?" Elizabeth scoffed.

"Join me and I can help you. You won't have to worry about rent or working those awful jobs." Eloise promised. She leaned her head over to Candace on the couch. "You can take that baby home."

Candace narrowed her eyes at her.

"I'll be staying in 314." Eloise said.

"Here?" Candace asked, nervously.

Eloise nodded at her.

"You're clearly mistaken." Elizabeth told Eloise before closing the door and locking it.

Will Perry talked to his foster brother on the bus ride to school. "Hey, Charlie. We need to talk."

"Why?" Charlie asked. He was about 13 years old, with dark hair.

"I realize I've been going about this all wrong." Will said. "You came to this foster home the same time I did, months ago."

"Okay?" Charlie said.

"Charlie," Will said, "I need to get back to Hyperion Heights-"

"Not this again." He said.

"But I want you to come with me this time."

Charlie tilted his head at him but smirked. "Why?"

"I think there's something there for both of us." Will said.

During Candace's lunch break, she walked back to the apartment complex. She went up to the third floor walking down the halls pointing to apartments 310-320. She went up to room 314, and debated knocking. She shuffled her feet and stared at the door.

Suddenly, the door opened up. Eloise was on the other end. "Candace. You came." She has a smile on her face.

"I only have about 10 minutes." Candace said.

"Come on in." Eloise welcomed her.

Inside the small apartment, was a little kitchen, a small table with four chairs, and an old TV set. Sitting at the table, was another girl.

"This is Anastasia," Eloise introduced the teenage girl. "She's special too."

"When you say special..." Candace said.

"Do you believe in magic, Candace?" Eloise asked her. She stood in front of her.

Candace lowered her eyebrows at her. "I-" she considered the question. "I mean some magicians really make me wonder if it's real."

"Not like that." Anastasia said, quietly. "It's more like magical powers."
Candace laughed time herself. "Seriously? What-like in fairy...tales..." she remembers the storybook page that fell out of her book.

"Precisely." Eloise said. "I am part of a coven of exceptional girls. Girls with powers."

Candace pointed her finger up at her. "Witches?"

"That's one word for it." Eloise said.

Candace looked over at Anastasia and back at Eloise. She folded her arms. "Prove it."

Eloise grabbed a plant from the windowsill and placed it on the table. She placed her hands over the plant, tingling her fingers. The plant began to grow, slowly.

Candace's gaze wasn't on the plant, but Eloise's hands. They way she moved her hands and did magic... it was familiar. Flora and Fauna did the magic the same way, but Candace doesn't remember that life or them.

"Pretty crazy, huh?" Anastasia said.

A smile creeped on Candace's face. "And you think I have this power too?"

Eloise smiled at her. "I can help you unlock it. But magic is very limited here."

"Why?" Candace asked.

"This is a land without magic. So any magic within us is repressed." Eloise explained.

"You have magic too?" Candace asked Anastasia.

The young teenager nodded. "And there's more of us out there. Eloise thinks we can find them and complete the circle."

"Circle? Like a coven?" Candace asked.

"Let's not get into all that just yet." Eloise said. "Let's see what you can do first." She placed Candace's over the plant. "Try to make it grow."

Candace closed her eyes and imagined the plant growing. She opened her eyes and nothing happened.

"Don't overthink it." Anastasia said. "It's best to be calm. I know that helps me."

Eloise glanced at Anastasia then back to Candace. "Magic is tied to your emotions. Powerful emotions can trigger your magic. Anger. Betrayal. Heartbreak."

"Or passion." Anastasia added. "Or even a fantasy."

Eloise narrowed her eyes at Anastasia.

Candace closed her eyes again and thought about the baby in the hospital. All alone, like Candace was for much of her life. She thought about the feeling of holding that baby in her arms. It felt so comforting. So wholesome. So at peace.

Candace opened her eyes and noticed that the plant had grown. The stems were over the side of the pot and on the table.

"You did it." Anastasia said, cheerfully.

"Well done." Eloise said to her.

"You didn't change the plant did you?" Candace asked.

"Of course not." Eloise said. "That was you. Welcome to our coven."

Candace took a step back. "What does any of this have to do with the baby at the hospital?" Candace asked.

"I can help you take her home." Eloise said.

"How?" Candace asked.

"Trust me." Eloise said.

Elizabeth met Tilly under the troll bridge that morning. She spent a few hours with her until her interview at 2:30pm.

"Hey, why don't you apply too? We could work together." Elizabeth said.

Tilly shook her head. "Nah, I'm not much of a book reader. I wouldn't know what to recommend."

"Well I still have to get the job." She said.

"You'll get it, Eliza. You love books. You're like Belle from Beaty and the Beast." Tilly said.

Elizabeth smiled at her. "Well, she is my favorite." She sighed and looked up. "I need this job. I can't sell my hair again."

Tilly tilted her head at her. "I thought it was longer before. Wasn't sure if I'd dreamt that or not."

Elizabeth giggled at her comment.

Eloise took Anastasia with her after Candace left. They went to her greenhouse and she used Anastasia to power this resurrection stone needed to revive Lucy. The stone come with a cost. It was very similar to the one used to revive Robin. In the alternate realm, they had the same stone.

"Why couldn't we bring Candace?" Anastasia asked.

"She's not ready yet." Eloise said to her.

"How are we going to do this?" Charlie asked Will in his room.

"I have some allowance money saved up. We can take a bus. Or three." Will said. He had the map on his phone.

"This will take so long." Charlie said. "They'll catch us. How do you know this will even work? Why is this town so important to you?"

"It's where my family is!" Will blurted. He took a breath to calm down. "My friends. My best friend. My girlfriend-actually I don't know if she's there yet, but she will be soon."

"You're not making any sense." Charlie said. He looked at him, worried. He seemed genuinely concerned for his mental state.

"I'm about to make less sense to you, probably. I had a dream about it. I mean, there was a big musical number, but that's besides the point. Hope was there. Alice and Lena were together. They finally came out and accepted themselves. Lyra was there but she was alone. She doesn't know. None of them do."

"Know what?" Charlie asked, still confused.

"Who they really are. But I can help them. Also the theater was glowing. I think the dream was telling where to find it."

"Find what? You're sanity?"

Will smiled a little. "I promise it will make sense soon, if you just come with me."

"I'll go with you." Charlie said. "Not because I believe you but to keep you out of trouble."

Will chuckled a little to himself.

Hunter visited the bar again, with Roni's welcome. She even gave him some brand new clothes from the department store. He looked at the clothes in the plastic bag. "How did you know my shoe size?"

Roni/Regina shrugged her shoulders. "Lucky guess."

He went into the bathroom and changed his clothes. He walked out looking like a regular guy. He still had the Foul odor from being outside all the time. Roni also had deodorant in the bag.

"This was really generous of you. Why would you do all this for me?" Hunter asked.

Henry sat the stools by the counter. His eyes widened at the homeless boy's new wardrobe.

"Because you're a good kid." Roni said. "You deserve it."

"Wow." Henry said.

"Highly doubt this will make Candace look my way." Hunter mumbled under his breath.

"I think she's be crazy not to." Henry said. "Wait, Candace is... isn't she like 17?"
"She's 19." Regina/Roni said quickly.

"She's 20." Hunter corrected them. "She just had a birthday."

Hunter sat back in his seat and munched in some nachos. "Where would I even take her? I don't money to take her out to dinner."

"Tuesday nights are free movie nights at the theater." Henry said. "They usually play older movies those nights."

"There you go." Roni said.

"Movies?" Hunter asked. "That's not really a first date place. It's not like we can do a lot of talking."

"Then walk with from her place to the theater and back." Henry said. "Give you time to talk."

"If only I knew where she lived." Hunter said.

"She works at the hospital." Roni said. "You can probably find her there if you don't see her today."

"Okay, you seemed to have this all planned out. I have to get back to Lucy." Henry said. He only stopped by the bar to help out Hunter for a few minutes.

Back in the hospital, Lucy did come out of her coma. The resurrection stone was a success. The price was someone's life. Eloise has intended on using Ivy but Victoria Belfrey took her place.

The bus pulled up by the HH stop. Will Parry and Charlie Davis got off, each with a duffel bag around them.
