Here is the next chapter. Sorry it's so late posting. I had a doctors appointment. I'm going to post the next chapter as well. Amber

Chapter 13

Frank set his alarm for 4:30 AM. Callie had had a couple bad hallucinations last night. He looked over at the cot where Rick was currently lying. His alarm had awakened him too. Frank murmured. "Sorry."

"Don't be." He whispered. "I've got her. I'm not leaving her side. You need to be with your parents and brother right now."

Callie mumbled. "What he said."

Frank approached the bed. "Morning baby." He kissed her lips.

Callie smiled. "I'm feeling better honest. The hallucinations do get bad but they're less frequent. Once I can take more meds they'll get better."

Frank went behind the curtain and changed his clothes from the house shorts he slept in to a pair of khaki slacks and a green polo. He put on his slip on brown deck shoes and considered himself ready for the day. He had purposefully put his razor in his father's ICU room. He'd shave there. He trusted his wife but didn't want to risk it in case she had another episode.

He walked to his fathers room. His mother was sleeping on the fold out chair bed and Joe was sleeping on a cot. He went to the sink and shaved quickly. His brother woke up at the sound. He waited for Frank to be done with the sink. When Frank was done he got up and cleaned up himself. Vanessa had brought him and Laura a change of clothes. Joe whispered. "Can you get us some coffee from Dunkin, the starbucks isn't open yet."

Vanessa came in. "I brought coffee and donuts for everyone but the patients."

Joe went over and kissed her. "Morning babe."

She handed him his. "I got coffee regulars for everyone except Frank. He and Fenton are the weird ones and like theirs black."

Frank took a cup. "Thanks Van."

Laura was still asleep. Frank didn't disturb her. They decided to let her rest. Fenton smelled the coffee. "That's just plain mean."

Frank smiled sheepishly. "Sorry dad."

"It's okay, I'll get some after surgery."

Frank squeezed his father's hand. "Sam is overseeing your units until you're better."

"Good."

Laura finally sat up. Fenton smiled at her. "Morning sweetheart."

"What time is it?"

Frank looked at his watch. "It's just five after five."

She looked in her purse for her comb and combed her hair. Then she took her clothes behind the curtain and changed. She came out a couple minutes later and kissed her husband. "How are you feeling?"

He took her hand. "I feel alright."

Sam Radley and Ethel came into the room. They too had coffees for everyone. Fenton rolled his eyes. "I'm going to rebel in a minute."

Frank chuckled. "I'd love to see you try."

Joe smacked the back of Frank's head. "Don't encourage him."

Frank stuck out his tongue making their role reversal complete.

Dr. Morales came in with a second person. "Hello everybody." Then he addressed Fenton. "How are you feeling?"

Fenton said. "No pain to speak of. A little anxious."

Frank was pleased that his father was telling the doctor the truth. Normally he wouldn't admit anything like that. He took his hand and squeezed it.

Dr. Morales said. "That is normal. I'll have your nurse bring you something before we take you downstairs. This is Dr. Haak he'll be doing the anestesia."

Fenton said. "Sounds good. How long is this going to take?"

"Between three and six hours."

The doctors left the room to go prep. Fenton leaned his head back and tried to relax. But it was not happening.

The nurse came into the room. "I have some diazepam for you. Then I'm going to wheel you down to surgery."

Fenton for the first time in his life felt a little fear. His anxiety increased detrimentally. His wife leaned over and kissed him. She soothed. "You're going to be alright. I love you." She leaned down and kissed him.

"Love you too sweetheart."

Joe hugged him next. "Dr. Morales is one of the best we've got here. He's excellent. Love you dad."

Fenton hugged him back. "I'm sure he is son."

Frank embraced his father. He said. " I love you. We all do."

Sam saluted. "I got them."

The nurses pushed Fenton down the hall. They stopped briefly at Callie's door. Fenton waved at her. Callie smiled and waved back. She put her hand on her heart and pointed at him. Fenton nodded. They started moving again. Frank, Joe, Vanessa, Laura, and the Radley's followed them down the hallway. They all were able to squeeze into the elevator and went down to the ground floor where the OR was. Frank was watching his dad. He was resting with his eyes closed. The medicine was obviously doing its job keeping him calm. He took his hand and squeezed it. Fenton squeezed back. Before they knew it they were outside a set of double doors marked surgery.

Laura kissed him one more time and squeezed his hand. "See you soon my love."

Fenton kissed her hand. "Count on it."

They watched as they wheeled Fenton through the doors. Once they closed Laura Hardy burst into tears. Frank and Joe both each took an arm. Frank soothed her. "He'll be okay mom."

Laura sniffled. "I know. It's just so hard. I remember when my mom went through this and his dad. I should have known this was coming. He had been complaining of indigestion a lot lately. I didn't put it together."

It was Joe who soothed her this time. "Mom don't blame yourself. We all missed it. So much has been happening. But the good thing is he's getting the treatment he needs now. He'll be alright."

Sam said. "He might have to retire from the FBI, we'll see how he recovers and what the doctors recommend."

Frank gestured. "Lets go sit in the waiting room."

Joe said. "Actually I told the surgeon we'd be in Callie's room. They agreed to come give us updates there. She's being moved to 480. It's a deluxe suite. We'll be more comfortable there and it will be more private."

Laura nodded. "Let's go then."

Callie was in her new room. It was much bigger and had a nice window. There were two sofas and a table with four chairs. Rick had taken one of the chairs from the table and was sitting beside her bed. They had been talking about a lot of things. Callie checked the time it was 730 AM. Fenton had to be in surgery by now. She was very worried. Then the door opened and Frank came in with everyone else. Callie gaped. "I thought you were down stairs."

Joe came over and kissed her cheek. "We walked dad to surgery, Dr. Morales and his team know we're up here, they'll update us here. They'll either call your phone or the assistant will come up."

Callie asked. "How long?"

Joe said. "Between 3 and six hours."

Callie nodded. Then she heard her fathers voice in her head. She sobbed and started rocking back and forth. Frank immediately came over. "It's okay sweetie. Focus on my voice. You're okay."

The fit lasted for several minutes. When it stopped she buried her face into Frank's chest and cried. "Want to stop."

Frank soothed her. "I know baby."

Joe whispered to his mother. "When is speech getting here?"

"I don't know son. We'll have to ask the nurse." Laura said.

Her nurse came in. "I have your injections Callie. My name is Sarah."

Callie was still trembling in Frank's arms. Frank answered. "Give her a minute she just had a hallucination."

Sarah said. "No problem. I can get her some haldol and ativan if she needs it."

Joe stepped forward. "I think that's a very good idea."

"I'll be right back." She left the room to retrieve the haldol and ativan and came back a minute later. She added Callie's meds to a syringe with a needle and administered it expertly in her arm.

After thirty minutes Callie's body completely relaxed. She had fallen asleep in Frank's arms. He gently guided her back onto her pillow.

Laura came over and smoothed her covers. "The poor dear."

Vanessa wanted to do something. She asked. "I can go get coffee who wants some?"

Frank pulled out a couple fifties from his wallet. "I want a white chocolate mocha." He handed the money to Vanessa.

Joe said. "That sounds good."

Frank added. "Get Callie one, she'll drink it after the swallowing eval."

Laura said. "I'll take a hot tea with sugar and cream."

Sam and Ethel both put in their requests and Vanessa and Joe both went to retrieve.
