p dir="ltr"It has been two days since I found out about my new bionic abilities. Now it was morning on the third /Laying on the cold, hard ground in my cage, I was trying to get some rest after another long day and most of the night. Douglas had worked on my bionic chip and infrastructure for 18 hours straight with no breaks and to say I was exhausted would be an understatement. I'd been pricked with countless needles, had some weird neck brace that allowed Douglas to see and work on my bionic chip that was infused into my nervous system, and stood for hours on end inside the capsule as I learned the glass container was called. br /I didn't let him do all this with consent. But Douglas was unfortunately smart. I obviously couldn't be on a table with restraints because one of my bionic abilities was super strength and it would be an easy escape. So instead he had put a pair of bulky handcuffs that were made of metal and tubes that glowed blue. It's designed to block the signal to my bionic chip. br /And with Marcus watching my every move, there wasn't anything I could do. I was powerless. br /All I wanted was to sleep and escape from the nightmare that is my life. br /But it was impossible when Douglas and Marcus were having an argument and practically yelling at each /I groaned and tried covering my ears but it did little to block the voices. Another one of my bionic abilities was enhanced hearing so their loud voices affected me greatly. I could still hear their argument despite cupping my hands on my ears. br /The argument was about me. Douglas knew that Leo was suspicious of Marcus and this posed a problem. It was partially Marcus' fault because he'd apparently broken his cover and threatened Leo to keep quiet after letting it slip that it was him who'd programmed the smart car to drive into the ocean. And that he knew about their bionic secret. Douglas was not thrilled about this and made sure that Marcus knew it. He's decided to put his faith in someone else. br /That's where I came in. The Davenports know that I found out about their secret, and if I were to gain their trust I could continue to spy on them and also be in the lab to gather information. br /I'd rather be pricked with a thousand needles despite my phobia instead of having to spend more time with the other Davenports. br /The argument ended with Douglas saying 'And that's final!' and then a door was slammed. I'd been preoccupied with my thoughts to hear what decision was made. br /I groaned when Douglas banged on the cell door telling me to get up. My ears physically hurt from the sudden noise. br /"Keep it down, sensitive bionic hearing!" I snapped, curling into a ball on my side and hoping he'd leave. br /"Don't care. Get up." He ordered. Sighing loudly, I do as he says while he unlocked the cage and motioned for me to come out. "Good news, you're going to visit my brother." br /"What if I don't want to? " I asked snarkily. br /"You will listen if you want things to be easy around here. I can make your life a whole lot more miserable." br /"Not sure what's worse than being turned into a science experiment." I mumbled to myself, but it was loud enough that Douglas heard. br /"Come on, if you do this I'll get you a nice pillow and blanket to sleep with, how's that sound." I bit the inside of my cheek, feeling guilty about what I was going to say. br /"If I wasn't so tired and being threatened with the possibility of going to jail I wouldn't agree to this." I can't believe I agreed to spying just to get a pillow and blanket. br /"Oh stop being dramatic. Get in your capsule, I'm going to put a temporary block on your chip so you can't use them and so there's no possibility of you glitching."br /"Yippee." I said dryly and Douglas rolled his eyes before pushing me in the capsules direction. Once I'm inside I scowl at him through the glass as he presses a series of buttons on his console. It wasn't long before the capsule lit up and started to hum. I forced my hands to stay at my side when something was inserted into the base of my neck, causing a temporary pain. br /The capsule powered down and I sighed in relief when the humming stopped. It gave me a headache everytime. br /Stepping out, I massaged the base of my neck. Strangely, despite the numerous times it's been pricked and had stuff inserted there was never any blood and stitches weren't needed. br /"So what exactly is your full plan." I asked and he looked at me confused. br /"What do you mean?"br /"I mean, I've run away before so my mom and the authorities won't think too much of it. But my mom is bound to notice I'll be gone more often and will definitely get suspicious."br /"Oh, I've already dealt with your mom." He said nonchalantly and my eyes widened. br /"You killed her!"br /"Wha- no!" I sighed in relief. I'd feel awful if anyone died, even if they weren't the best people. "I visited her and said I found you and let you stay for a few days and that I was a distant relative who wanted to spend time with you." br /"Wait, you know I'm a foster child?"br /"Yep. Anyways paid her to keep this a secret from the authorities so that we didn't have to go through a bunch of legal stuff. She should be contacting the them today to say that you'd come home."br /I laughed dryly. "Why am I not surprised. Show Laura a wad of cash and she'll agree to anything." br /Douglas paused his typing on the computer to look at me. I couldn't decipher the expression he wore, "I'm surprised she's even allowed to foster you. Seems a little bit… unqualified judging by her lifestyle."br /"Who says a woman who spends most days drinking and partying can't be a good mother?" I said defensively. It was almost as if he pitied me which didn't make sense considering what he's done to me. "It's not like you're any better anyways." br /"Hey!" Douglas looked genuinely offended. "Just- get going! If you try running away, I can track you. And I want you back before dinner."br /"I make no promises." I said trudging to the other exit I found out was here. Instead of a door, I walked to the far wall opposite the door and pressed a button. The wall faded and I was greeted with the cool morning air that was refreshing. This is the first time outside since I got kidnapped. br /On the outside, Douglas' place looked like a regular suburban house. You wouldn't suspect that it contained a secret evil lair used by an equally evil man. br /It's amazing how I'm not as scared as one should be in this situation. Maybe it's the lack of sleep. Or Douglas isn't the first low life I've dealt with. Plus, there's moments when I question if he's truly a bad person. Like a normal psychopath wouldn't offer anything to make me more comfortable. Or make sure that I eat decent meals, though that probably has more to do with taking care of my body so my bionics work better. br /And it isn't like me to accept defeat so easily. But I'm not smart and have no idea about the bionic technology Douglas has implanted in me. br /Though maybe I don't have to be smart. Douglas said he could track me somehow, but what if there's a simple way to stop that? It must be programmed in my bionic chip. br /I mulled this over while heading to my house before I went to the older Davenport's place. I really needed to take a shower and change clothes. Hopefully if I was allowed to leave the lab, I could do this on a regular basis. No way I'm doing it at Douglas' br /Since Douglas didn't say I had to go straight to Donald's, I decided to take a nap as well to recharge my batteries. It was morning anyways, so I had all day. br /-br /I was around two when I arrived at the Davenport's mansion. br /My heart was pounding as I walked up to the door. I had half a mind to run away after I knocked. br /I drew in a sharp breath when the door opened and I met the shocked expression of Chase upon seeing me. br /"H-Harper?"br /strongem-/em/strong/p
