Chapter 21: You are Lisa Simpson
Chief Wiggum and his partners, Eddie and Lou, arrived on the scene, having been called by Steven before everything began. Everyone, including Selby, agreed that Lisa beating up on Dave was a justified act of self-defense and so she faced no charges. The sun began to rise as Dave and his cronies were placed inside the police cars.
"Take em away, boys!" Wiggum demanded and the car drove off just as another black car pulled up.
"That's my Mama." Selby explained as she slung a backpack over her shoulder and turned to Lisa. "I guess this is good-bye."
"Listen Selby." Lisa muttered, softly blushing as she spoke. "I'm sorry for...you know...beating up your Dad."
Selby's first response to Lisa's apology was to burst out laughing. "It's quite all right Lisa!" She reassured her new friend. "Dad kinda deserved it and I'm sure he's not gonna come after you and your family, not if he doesn't want to admit to getting beat up by a little girl!"
Everyone, including Lisa, laughed at those words.
"I'm glad to hear that but are you sure your Mom will be alright with your conversion into Buddhism?"
"Of course." Selby looked around and then whispered in Lisa's ear. " She's secretly an atheist and has been looking for a reason to get divorced from my Dad for years. I think this time will do it."
Selby and Lisa hugged each other. "Good-bye Lisa. Make sure to call me ok?"
"Of course I will." Lisa cried.
The two girls finished their embrace and Selby ran toward the black car whose passenger seat opened for her. She climbed in and the car drove off as everyone waved good-bye.
"Wait!" Lisa shouted as a bad realization donned on her. "I never got her number!" Suddenly her phone vibrated and Lisa picked it up. She was surprised to find a text message with a bunch of phone number in it.
"There's Selby's number. Sarah's number, and my number." Zelda explained as she walked up with her own phone in hand. You can call us anytime."
"Wow! Thanks Zelda...But how did you get my number?"
"Three cheers for Lisa!" Homer shouted, prompting everyone to oblige. As everyone cheered, Bart approached Lisa. "Wow Lis." He began. "You really let that guy have last night huh?
"You know, it's funny Bart." Lisa replied. "When I was kicking him, it was if all my pent up rage and anguish over the years left my body with every kick. I'm calmer now then I've ever been."
"That's great Lisa!" Bart said. "So does that mean yo-
Before Bart could finish, Lisa walked up to Roseanne and held up her phone. "Roseanne," She asked. "Can you please put your number in my phone as well."
"Ah." Roseanne spoke in a knowing tow. "So I see you made your decision huh?"
"I have. I left Springfield to find myself and I did." She turned to her parents, smiling brightly. "It's time to come home."
Homer and Marge could barely hold back their tears as they embraced their daughter. Bart felt tears form in his own eyes but wiped them away quickly before anyone could see.
An hour later, the Simpsons were packing up and ready to leave.
"Let's get home quickly." Marge spoke. "You have a lot of homework that needs taking care of."
"Alright." Lisa exclaimed with excitement in her voice. She turned to Roseanne, her friends and the Stillsons. "Good-bye everyone! Thanks for everything!"
"Good-bye Lisa!" Roseanne shouted. "Don't forget to call me!"
The Simpson climbed into their car and drove off.
"Glad to have you back Lis." Bart repeated as they entered the highway "and I'm sorry again."
"Don't mention it." Lisa shrugged. It was then that she noticed an old book lying at her feet. She picked it up and dusted it off. It was the first book in the Angelica Button series and inside of it was a sheet of paper which was not part of the book. Lisa took it out and remembered fondly where it came from. How could she forget? It was only given to her by her most favorite teacher.
"You are Lisa Simpson." It still read.
"I am." She whispered confidently. "I most certainly am."
THE END
(Happy Valentine's Day I guess.)
