Chapter 25- Matchmaker Skye Strikes Again

Rae stayed a few more days at Myrtle's but come the next Monday, she would have to return to work in Llanview and put off her patients no more. She reassured Skye however, that the judge had finally appointed another therapist for Todd Manning and that she would call the police if he tried to worm his way into her house again. She was also missing John, but she really hated leaving Skye. Even though Pine Valley really wasn't that far away. She was tempted to up and move there but Skye was a loose canon and for all Rae knew, she'd move back to Port Charles within days.

Alan called Skye often and wanted her to come for dinner again soon. She was still unemployed and was making no attempts to find a new job. This concerned Rae as she wondered what scheme Skye was cooking up next in her spare time. Financially she wasn't worried though, since Skye still had her Chandler trust fund and access to Adam's debit and credit card numbers.

Skye wasn't too happy when Jax friend zoned her, but Rae and Myrtle tried to reassure her that this was a good thing. She needed to focus on herself right now and get in a better place before she could focus on a relationship.

She tried to hide her sadness when Rae said goodbye. Even though she'd be back soon to visit her and Myrtle, Skye really wanted her to stay with them. She'd never admit that though… or at least she didn't think she would.

"Llanview really isn't that far," Myrtle reassured her after Rae left. "We'll still see her often. At first, I didn't like it either, but we bonded quickly, and I have a relationship with her, something I never thought possible all these years."

Skye ignored the heaviness in her chest and changed the subject. "Grandma, when were you last on a date?"

Myrtle raised an eyebrow and started to laugh. "A date? Oh, it's been years."

"But how many men have you loved?"

Myrtle sat on the couch. "Two. Your grandfather and my late husband Nigel."

Skye sat across from her and crossed her legs. "Were you with… or did you date anyone else?"

"Oh yes, Leo the Lion Tamer and a lighting rod salesman. But it wasn't love."

Skye gawked at her but shook her head. "But didn't you date after your husband died?"

She shook her head. "I couldn't. Losing Nigel was too much for me. I told myself I'd never love again in the romantic sense."

"But don't you get lonely?"

"No. I have good friends and now I have a family. I miss Nigel deeply, but I have a very good life."

"But surely you want more than that, right? There's got to be more to life."

"Skye, darling. I know you're thinking about Jax. You have plenty of time to fall in love and it's okay to be friends first. And if it doesn't work out with Jax, there will be lots of good men looking for a pretty girl like you."

Over the next week, Rae came for dinner three times that week, once with John which Skye wasn't too pleased about. Rae took Skye aside and asked her to please try to accept John, especially since he worked so hard to prove her innocence. She even bought Skye a new cell phone… something Skye grumbled about at first. She was planning to get the new Handspring Treo, but instead Rae got her a cheap Blackberry. Myrtle scolded her though for not being more grateful for the thoughtful gift even though Skye could've easily afforded a more expensive phone. Myrtle demanded that Skye apologize which she did without hesitation at her grandmother's tone.

Skye made plans with Uncle Stuart on the Saturday, though she decided to invite Myrtle and Rae as well because she had a plan.

"At the Yacht Club for 6:30," Skye told Rae over the phone.

"Well, I look forward to it, Skye. I will meet you there."

Skye slipped her phone away and headed downstairs to find Myrtle sipping on some tea.

"Is she able to join us?" Myrtle asked.

"Uh huh. I'm going to pick her up and we'll meet you and Uncle Stuart at the Valley Inn for 6:30."

"You have some mail, by the way." Myrtle tilted her head towards the table. "There was no return address, so I don't know who it's from."

Skye lifted it from the table and ripped open the envelope. Her hands started shaking as she read the note written in black marker.

Lorenzo Alcazar is paying for what you deserve. And it will remain that way or else I will pluck off each member of your family one by one, whether they be a Chandler, a Quartermaine, or a Fargate. Enclosed is your first relative I have my eye on. She will remain safe at home with her parents but if you don't shred this paper immediately without breathing a word to anyone, she will be removed from her home by morning. I will contact you with further instructions.

She reached inside the envelope and pulled out a picture of Colby sitting on a swing.

"Skye, is everything all right?" Myrtle asked, pulling her out of her trance.

Skye turned and faked a smile. "Yeah. It's just… a letter from an old friend. Just took me aback a bit…"

"Are you sure? You've gone really pale."

"I just need to get some sleep. I'm really tired. Looking forward to our dinner on Saturday…"

She rushed upstairs to her room and grabbed some scissors from her drawer. "Okay, whoever you are, just go away." She cut up the note and the picture.

When Skye arrived at the Yacht Club, Rae was already seated at a table for four. Skye headed over and Rae got up to hug her. "Where's your grandmother?"

"Oh, she'll be along…" Skye sat down and started to look through her menu.

Rae sat across from her. "You didn't come together?"

"No. Say, the escargots are excellent here. You should try them."

"Can I start you off with something to drink?" the waiter asked when he came over.

"I'll just have some sparkling cider," Skye said. "Non-alcoholic."

"I'll have the same," Rae said.

"I think we're ready to order?" Skye said.

Rae scrunched her face. "Aren't we waiting for Mama and your Uncle Stuart?"

Skye smiled. "I'm sure they wouldn't want us waiting for them, Mother. Uncle Stuart would say we'd starve."

"I really wonder what's keeping them," Myrtle said as she peeked at her watch at the Valley Inn.

"Maybe they were having such fun on the road that they decided to take a road trip." Stuart smiled. "I think it's great that Skye's getting to know you guys. She deserves lots of special people in her life."

"Well, she's already lucky to have you in her life, Stuart," Myrtle said. "I feel like you've been more of a father to her through the years than that goat of a brother of yours."

Stuart frowned. "I try to tell Adam that the kids don't care about the money and the fancy things. They just want him to play with them and spend lots of time with them."

"You're a good man, Stuart. You may even be a better man than my late Nigel."

"Skye, if you know where Myrtle is, you need to tell me," Rae said. "They're over an hour late."

Skye rolled her eyes. "Maybe they wanted to do something on their own."

"What are you up to? You're not…? Are you trying to set Stuart and Myrtle up together?"

Skye sighed. "What if I am?" She took a bite of an escargot.

Rae groaned. "You are unbelievable. How would you feel if someone tried to set you up with a man without your knowledge?"

"Hmm… good question. Depends on the man."

"Your Uncle Stuart isn't even divorced yet. What if there's still a chance that he can work things out with Marian?"

"Oh, please… Uncle Stuart can do way better than Marian Colby. And besides, Grandma was just telling me the other day that she hasn't had a date since her husband died. That was decades ago. If you ask me, they need each other. They deserve each other, and for once I mean that in a good way."

"You can't force people to love each other. You already tried that with me and Alan. That's not how love works, Skye."

"Oh, come on. You and Dad are far from over."

"Isn't Stuart a lot younger than Myrtle? I just don't picture them together at all."

"Who cares about age? Though to be honest, I don't know how old either of them are. I never asked what year Daddy and Uncle Stuart were born. All I know is they're both really old."

"Skye! You shouldn't say that about people."

"Well, well, well." They looked up to find Erica standing at their table with Jack Montgomery. "If it isn't the little husband stealer and her creature of a mother who also steals anything and anyone she wants."
