Prompt: pls could u do an angsty, post internal affairs fic (like fighting and making up)

A/N: I always had the feeling that Kensi was very understanding post Internal Affairs so I leaned more on the angsty side than the fighting side.

"I missed you tonight," Kensi murmured, rubbing her hand down Deeks' back as he sat down on the bed with a groan and kicked off his shoes. His muscles were tense, bunched lumps beneath her touch. It made sense after the last two days.

"I needed some time to think," he answered quietly.

"About what?" she asked, even though his tone clearly wasn't inviting. He'd seemed so relieved after they'd found him with Steadman. She sat beside him, leaning in slightly. After the very real fear that she wouldn't get to touch him again, she needed the contact.

"I don't really feel like talking about it right now." Kensi pulled her hand back, stung by his clear rebuff.

"Well maybe I do." Deeks stood up, increasing the distance between them, keeping his back to her.

"Kensi, I have had a hell of a day," he said shortly.

"And you think I haven't?" she said, hurt that he was trying to shut her out.

"Kensi, in the last 48 hours I've been arrested, had an IA investigator interrogate me, and been beaten up by a dirty cop twice. Can we please not do this right now?"

"And in that same time, I was worried sick about you. I had no idea what was going on or how I was going to get you out of prison!" Kensi exclaimed, disregarding his attempt to close her out. The last two days had been horrific and she needed him, even if he wasn't able to tell her the whole truth right now.

She approached him slowly, stopping a few inches away and very gently placed her palm between his shoulder blades.

"I thought Steadman had shot you," she whispered and felt him flinch. "When I didn't see you on the pier, I was sure we'd be dredging the water for you. I nearly shot him."

Deeks jerked around at that and giving her a serious look.

"But you had just cause," he checked and she shrugged. Not carelessly, but perhaps with a touch of hopelessness.

"Maybe. He wasn't ready to shoot me or anyone else at that moment."

"Kensi, please tell me you're joking," he begged, grabbing her by the shoulders. She didn't think she'd ever seen him so intense and it scared her a little bit. It made her think of things they were both willing to do for each other.

"I'm not."

"You have to promise me that you will never consider anything like that again." A part of her rankled at the hypocrisy of his statement, but she just didn't have the energy. And she didn't want to fight.

"As soon as you promise to stop sending money to ex-prostitutes," she tossed back and Deeks looked stunned for a moment. Then he let out a surprised chuckle, shaking his head. In an instant some of the tension was gone and he just looked exhausted.

"Fair enough," he said. He shoved his hands through his hair. "God, this is such a mess." Kensi took both his hands and tugged him closer until he was securely in her arms. Right where he belonged.

"We'll figure it out," she promised. He dropped his head to her shoulder and pressed his nose into her neck, breathing deeply. She gently combed her fingers through his hair.

"I'm sorry." He didn't specify for what exactly. Gently pulling his head back, she kissed him lightly and then leaned her forehead against his so they were looking directly into each other's eyes.

"Just promise me you won't do this again. We're partners. In every sense of the word." He nodded, his nose brushing against hers.

"Deal," he murmured.

A/N: I just didn't have it in me to have them actually fight. Hope that's ok and thanks for the prompt!
