Chapter 12: Looking Around/Dwelling Found

A mother peccary and two piglets moved through a less dense part of the rainforest thirty minutes later. They passed a harpy eagle perched on a branch in the middle of a tree. A squirrel monkey pulled a berry off another branch below the eagle. It threw the berry at the first piglet, hitting it in the head and causing it to jump. The piglet looked over its shoulder at the monkey. It snorted in annoyance before looking ahead. It raced after its mother.

The piglets grabbed their mother's ears and pulled on them in which it caused her to come to a stop. They oinked very playfully. She pulled herself out of their grasp. She went behind them and nipped their tails. She returned to the front of them. She let out disapproving oinks before snorting softly. They exhaled and lowered their heads in much shame. They swiveled their ears, followed by their tails.

The piglets' mother touched their muzzles with her nose. She licked each of them lovingly. The trio resumed walking. They picked up their pace a bit. The second piglet jumped in fright when a tapeti hopped out in front of it. It oinked in annoyance and went after its mother and siblings. They reached a ledge that overlooked a stream.

The mother peccary decided to head downstream. Her piglets followed her close behind. They ran ahead of her and jumped on each other. They emitted childish oinks. The trio came to a halt when they saw berries laying on the ground next to a pile of leaves. They were just a short distance away from a rock path that went across the stream. They approached the berries while snorting softly. The piglets picked up one berry each. They chewed them quickly. They swallowed them with loud gulps. Their mother mimicked their actions with two berries.

The peccaries heard footsteps coming their way. They looked up to see Tommy coming into view. They snorted and went to munching on the berries. He spotted the rock path. He headed toward it, as he didn't want to get his tan boots wet. He went across it. He slipped around the halfway point, but he managed to regain his footing. He reached the edge of it. He looked over his shoulder at the rocks after stopping a short distance from them.

"I feel lucky this has been the only body of water I've encountered so far," Tommy whispered in relief. "That's not to say I won't encounter another one."

He resumed walking as he looked ahead. He scanned his surroundings while listening to various animals sounds. He turned his attention to the path. He came to a stop when he spotted a mother spectacled bear and three cubs feeding on a bush a short distance away. He began to back away carefully. Unfortunately, he stepped on a twig, causing it to snap. He stopped.

The mother bear heard the snapping and looked toward the boy, as did her cubs. They squeaked in some fright and backed away. She growled defensively and moved toward him. She stopped close to him and stood up on her hindquarters. She roared at him. He held his hands out in front of him and tilted his head slightly. He breathed deeply while backing away slowly.

"Believe me, lady. You don't want to mess with me," Tommy insisted in a calm but firm voice. He heard the bear roar again and narrowed his eyes at her. "I mean it."

The bear let out another loud roar. She dropped to all fours and charged at Tommy, who gritted his teeth. He revved his hand with green lightning and tossed it at the ground in front of her. It exploded on impact in which it caused the bear to fall down. She shook her head rapidly while emitting soft growls. She looked at him and roared again. She got back up.

The bear broke into another charge. She growled fiercely while narrowing her eyes at her target. Tommy shot green lightning from his fingertips. It hit her and surged through her entire body. She skidded to a halt. She roared in pain before falling into unconsciousness. The cubs approached her. They sniffed her body while letting out uncertain childish growls.

Tommy panted heavily as the bear came back to consciousness. She shot him a fearful gaze and stood up to run away. Her cubs were right behind her. He observed them vanishing into the undergrowth. He grabbed his water bottle. He sipped a bit of water. He wiped some that had dripped on his chin off. He returned the bottle back to its post.

"I hope to God that I don't encounter another bear," Tommy grumbled annoyingly. "At least that bear wasn't a big one. Spectacled bears usually don't get very big."

Tommy started walking once more. He turned to see what appeared to be a rock in the hole at the bottom of a tree. He became curious and went to it. He squatted down with a light grunt. He picked up the object. He turned it around, gasping surprisingly when he saw it was a human skull. He stuck his finger into the left eye socket. He did the same to the right one.

He looked the skull over and touched one of six teeth remaining in the upper jaw. He put it down and looked toward more bones. They consisted of the jawbone, five vertebrae, three ribs, and a leg bone. He grabbed the jawbone. He ran his finger over it while mumbling inaudible words. He put it down. He got a rib. He slid his hand over it at a slow yet steady pace.

He reached the edge of the rib and rubbed the broken-off end. He narrowed his eyes at it. He laid it aside and picked up the leg bone. He could see teeth marks all over it. He gazed at the bottom of it, finding the end was split in two. He could also see a piece of it was missing. He laid it down and ran his hand over his face three times.

Tommy pressed his lips together. He had a feeling these bones belonged to Parker. He wondered if the man was returning to his home to get something when he was attacked, killed, and eaten by a predator. He had no doubt the scavengers finished off the remains. He recalled watching a documentary about the Tsavo man-eaters. He couldn't forget how the lions killed so many people. He found the team up to be very unusual as man-eaters usually acted alone.

He rose to his full height and began walking once more. He stretched his arms above his head. He placed them at his sides. He stopped when a harpy eagle flew out in front of him. He watched it go toward the canopy and head above it. He shook his head in disbelief. He ran his fingers through his hair as he resumed walking. He scanned his surroundings.

"I've run into too many animals today," Tommy whispered annoyingly. "What's next, a peccary biting my ass for the hell of it?"

He turned his attention to the path and felt his jaw drop at what he saw. A stone cross was a short distance away from him. He came closer to it and went to the front of it. He could see what appeared to be a stone altar right below it. He could see the bottom had an emblem of an angel kneeling in prayer craved into it. He was very fascinated by this.

He cupped his chin in his hand. He wondered how this cross and altar got here. He didn't think Parker could've built it because it would've taken a great amount of skill. He tried carving a sculpture once, but he didn't do very well with it. He was aiming to make a human head, but he kept messing up on it, especially when it came to the eyes.

Tommy walked on. He saw the edge of the rainforest coming into view. He reached it and was amazed to find himself on top of a hill overlooking a beach. The sun reflected off the ocean, making it seem as if it were sparkling. Waves crashed onto the beach. They retreated out to sea with more coming in. He could hear the distant squawking of gulls.

"What a beautiful sight," Tommy yelled in much amazement. "Parker's little house has to be somewhere on this beach. He would've been near many places where he could gather food."

He walked along the top of the hill and came to a stop. He proceeded to head down it very carefully.

Tommy reached the bottom of the hill within three minutes. He went to the beach, stopping close to the shoreline. Three bottlenose dolphins performed front flips in the surf. They landed on their backs with big splashes. They swam upside down. They did backflips in which they hit the water on their stomachs. They surfaced with air coming from their blowholes.

Tommy watched the dolphins go underwater. They leapt out of the water and went right back in. They performed six bows before they disappeared beneath the surface. All of a sudden, they shot straight up and did spins in midair. The first and second dolphins hit the water on their sides. The third dolphin followed suit on its back. They created huge splashes.

He laughed in delight as the dolphins zipped through the water. The dolphins jumped in unison. They went underwater and swam upside down. They broke the surface and did backflips. They landed on their stomachs. He cheered as they repeated their actions. He observed them heading out to sea. They slipped beneath the surface.

He started walking down the beach with a smile on his face. What he just saw reminded him of a walk that he, Marty, and Lillian took on a stretch of beach in Angel Grove last Saturday. They saw five bottlenose dolphins zip through the water and perform amazing moves such as backflips and front flips. They stopped to watch them for a while. He knew he would never forget such a sight. He felt very lucky to have seen dolphins on Clovis. He hoped to see more.

Tommy went around the bottom of a hill that stuck out a little further on the beach. He raised his eyebrows at what he saw as he stopped in his tracks. A hut sat not far from him. It resembled the one built by Richard and Emmeline from The Blue Lagoon. However, it was a little bigger and set a little higher off the ground. Two loft areas could be seen. The first one had flaps open in front and on the side. A slide made of huge leaves led down to the front porch. A trail of rocks that led into the water from another hill wasn't far from the hut.

He grew very curious about the hut, though he wasn't sure about venturing inside because Parker could be there. He huffed to himself. He decided he would go inside. He made his way up the stairs. He walked into the hut carefully. He stopped in the middle of it and looked around while licking his lips. The interior resembled the one from Richard and Emmeline's, but it was a little bigger. A large bed was close to the doorway on his left. A nightstand was next to it. A mirror hung close to it. A round table with four matching chairs was close to that. A pot hung over a fire pit. Ladders led up to the lofts that contained small beds. A bookcase was to the right of him. It contained books and journals. A chest was in front of it and was filled with clothes.

Tommy looked toward the table, seeing two journals laying on top of it. He walked toward it. Suddenly, something on the nightstand caught his eye. He approached it, finding it was a folded piece of paper. He touched it before picking it up. He unfolded to find that it had a note written on it. He rubbed his chin very lightly.

"'Dear Explorer, if you find this note, this means I was unable to make it back to my home. You are welcome to use it for shelter and make modifications to it,'" Tommy whispered. '"Make sure you keep my journals safe because they document my time on Clovis. I want people to know about them if you ever manage to get home or if someone joins you. Sincerely, Parker.'"

Tommy gasped in awe. He had no doubt the human remains he found belonged to Parker. He knew the man wasn't far from the beach when a predator attacked and killed him. He believed it hadn't been that long since he died. After all, the hut appeared to be in decent shape. He went to the table and sat down. He picked up the first journal. He opened it to the first page.

"'I found a perfect spot to build my place. It is nestled amongst some small hills and is surrounded by trees. I remember all the times I went camping with my parents on Nava. They taught me how to build a shelter and live off the land in case I ever got lost or stranded somewhere like a deserted island,'" Tommy said and furrowed his brow. "'I have no problem becoming a hunter/gatherer. It is a challenging lifestyle. I live for challenges.'"

He became very impressed at what he just read. He knew not many people knew how to live off the land in case they became lost somewhere on Earth. He wished more would learn to do that, especially since it could take a long time for help to come. He remembered his camping trips where his parents taught him how to build a shelter and live off the land if he ever got lost. He enjoyed those sessions. He turned to the second page. He gazed at a drawing of a house at the bottom of it.

"'I just finished the base of the house. It took me several days, but it was well worth it. I know the house won't look exactly like the drawing I've made, but I hope to get it close to that,'" Tommy commented. "'While I was finishing the base, a scarlet macaw tried to pick at my bunch of bananas I had gathered before I started. I scared it off by roaring like a bear. Macaws are beautiful birds, but they can be such pests when it comes to my food."'

Tommy snickered under his breath. He thought Parker's scaring off the scarlet macaw was funny. He recalled all the times Marty scared off gray squirrels that kept trying to get at the birdseed in their bird feeder at their old house in Moore. He liked them, but he saw them as pests when it came to bird food. He looked toward the third page.

"'I am finally finished with my house after weeks of building. Now, I just need to build the furniture. That will likely take a bit of time, but I am determined to do it,'" Tommy murmured. "'I think I will put the bed next to the doorway. I could put two beds in the lofts. This will be just in case someone else ends up stranded or comes here to explore the area.'"

Tommy chuckled to himself. He believed he would've gotten along well with Parker due to his hospitality. He wondered if the explorer did ever have any visitors. He flipped to the fourth page.

"'All of my furniture building is done. I am heading to my starship to retrieve the majority of my things. After that, I will spend my first official night in my little house on the beach,'" Tommy said thoughtfully. "'Though I do like the peaceful atmosphere of Clovis, I do hope I will get off this world someday. I do miss my parents and my home world. At least I can take comfort in the fact that I didn't suffer any injuries when I crashed."'

Tommy closed the journal. He agreed with Parker that Clovis was rather peaceful. He was glad no other people were around, though he knew it was possible some natives did live here. If that were true, he wouldn't trust them blindly. He would take the time to get to know them, so he could determine if they were trustworthy.

He thought about Kim. His desire for her was increasing by the minute. He needed to her all to himself. He thought this would be the perfect place to hold her captive. He decided he would kidnap her tonight, as few people would be out. He planned to render her unconscious to make it easier for him to bring her here. He intended on having his way with her after she regained consciousness. He needed to get her communicator and Morpher away from her, so she couldn't escape. He decided he would put them in a box and seal it with a spell. He could condition it to shock her if she tried to open it.

His thoughts shifted to Rita. He knew they had a telepathic connection that enabled them to communicate with each other. He decided he would sever it once he got Kim here. He considered Rita a fool to believe she had complete control over him. He would pay her and her minions a visit to hang out with them for a little bit before he betrayed them. He had to make them think he was still on their side, so they wouldn't suspect anything until it was too late.

He started thinking about Jason, Trini, Billy, and Zack. He knew they would be surprised to see he was no longer fighting by Rita's side when the attack in Angel Grove Park occurred. He understood they would be looking for Kim after she went missing. He decided he would make it appear both of them ran away by getting their clothes from their houses and bringing them here. He would also bring Kim's CD player and CDs, so she wouldn't be bored. That was if she had that stuff.

Tommy shook his thoughts out of his head. He wanted to read more journal entries. He laid the one he had on the table. He grabbed the second one and opened it to the first page. He proceeded to read. A scarlet macaw flew in and landed on a tree branch that was close to the window. It watched him very closely. It let out a quiet squawk.
