Been a long night here fretting over our critters. Temps have dropped to 0 and not all of our birds are equipped for that sort of weather. So far everyone seems to hang in there ok. Hopefully that will continue.
It was just after lunch when the ringing of Mike's office phone made both detectives flinch violently.
Still bent over O'Conner's R&I information taking up most of his desk by now, Steve stole a glance over at his partner, their eyes meeting just as Mike reached for the receiver.
"Lieutenant Stone?...Oh really?"
Almost immediately, a smile spread across Mike's lips, his voice growing warm and welcoming- just like it did each time the Lieutenant got exactly what he wanted when it came to an active investigation.
"They did, eh? Perfect, we'll be right down…thank you, Anton!"
Even before Mike hung up the phone, Steve arrived by his door frame, nervously tapping the wood with his long fingers.
"The package just left.", the Lieutenant whispered and got up to reach for his overcoat and fedora, "Anton says he only saw Cassidy and Mahoney get in though."
"If Jimmy's transmitter works properly, we should know who they're picking up shortly…", Steve added and backtracked the steps to his desk, before grabbing his beige coat and car keys.
"Even better, maybe they'll lead us straight to their hideout."
Turning around briefly, Mike scanned the bullpen for any available detective, his eyes ending on Bill who had just hung up the phone.
"Tanner, can you get a hold of Devitt and tell him we're going on an extensive recon? I'll 10-20 if I think we need backup."
The African-American Inspector cocked his head in acknowledgment and reached for his notepad, scribbling down a reminder.
"Mike, I think he just went into a meeting with the Chief but I'll let him know as soon as he gets out."
With an approving nod, he sent a fleeting glance over to his partner who scrambled to put the O'Conner file back together and tucked it under his arm.
"That'll be perfect, Bill. Come on, let's go, Buddy Boy. It's about time we get to go hunting."
