Blind Eye 4-4
Episode 4 part 4
Simon sidled up to Maya.
"Hi," he said, trying to be Suave, "I'm Simon."
"Hi, Simon," Smiled Maya.
"Simon," thundered another voice. Simon cringed.
Desi stormed up to Simon.
"You were supposed to meet me in the lounge 45 minutes ago!" she snapped
"Oh, was that today?" Simon Chuckled nervously
Desi grabbed Simon by the earlobe and dragged him off.
"Oh, ow, ouch!" cried Simon, "Come out Desi take it easy!"
Everybody else was giggling and snickering.
"Simon never learns!" Laughed Lisa
"Let me guess, His Girlfriend." Laughed Maya. The others nodded between chuckles.
The Next day as soon as Maya arrived, Lisa Carole, Stevie and Elle invited Maya to go on a Hack with them and Connor.
They went and saddled up, then they went out and headed up the main trail. as they were approaching Cross Crest where all the trails met. Lisa spoke what was on her mind.
"I wonder what is taking Rafael so long? I haven't seen him since yesterday afternoon!"
"I don't know." Replied Elle, "But from what he said, and what happened to Connor and me up on the trail. this Sundance Clan doesn't exactly sound like a small problem!"
Lisa had to agree.
"I just hope that Vito doesn't let his pride get in the way!" half-murmured Lisa to no one in particular.
"What do you mean by that?" asked Carole
"Well," replied Lisa, "As I've gotten to know Rafael's family, I've learned few things about them. Vito Sr. is a good man to be sure, but he's is also a very proud man. Add that to the fact that the Romani like to handle their own problems and I worry that he's just proud enough try handling the return of the Sundance clan on his own. And if the Sundance clan are even half as dangerous as Rafael says they are_."
"He could be in over his head." Finished Stevie nodding in understanding.
"Right." Said Lisa, "When we stop for lunch at Eagle Crag, I'll try to contact him."
A little while later they reached Eagle Crag. Stopping in a grassy meadow they untacked their horses and let them graze.
Stevie spread out the picnic blankets and they all made themselves comfortable and started laying out the sandwiches chips and other food they had brought with them. The others started eating while Lisa started to contact Rafael.
Suddenly Elle cocked her head, Listening. Connors Sixth Sense kicked in and immediately he knew what Elle heard.
"There's rider coming up one of the side trails," said Elle
"The Creek Branch trail." nodded Connor
Cross Crest was where the three main trails met, but there was a myriad of smaller branch trails as well. The Creek branch followed Willow creek down to the Reservoir. The Creek Branch trail also crossed the Main trail near the Eagle crag picnic spot.
Elle and Connor flattened themselves against a tree and a rock that stood where the two trails met and waited as the rider drew closer. the rest of the group hid behind some bushes. just as the rider reached the trees, he was suddenly grabbed, yanked out of the saddle and flipped end over end to land right in the middle of the picnic blanket where Lisa had been sitting just a few seconds ago.
"Ow!" he cried
Lisa's head popped up from behind a nearby bush.
"Rafael?!" she cried. She rushed to his side, "Are you okay?" she asked
"Yeah, I'm okay." he said
"You're sure," said Lisa
"Yes, my love, I'm fine," he said
"Good," said Lisa, she suddenly grabbed his arm and flipped him end over end on to his back again!
"Ow!" he groaned as he landed on his back again
"What's the big idea of scaring us like that?!" she snapped, "You know how jumpy we are with both Reggie and the Sundance clan running around!"
"Sorry Lisa," he said, "I didn't think."
Diablo let out what every was sure was an amused knacker.
Rafael looked up at him from the ground.
"Oh, you think it's funny to see me tossed around by my girlfriend huh?" he said getting up.
Diablo gave a very blatant nod of his head.
Everybody started laughing.
Then things turned serious again.
"Where have you been?" asked Lisa
"Sorry about that too," said Rafael, "When I told my grandfather that the Sundance clan was back in the area, he immediately sent me and several others out to try and locate their hideout, no luck. I was out almost all night. Then I overslept."
"He shouldn't be trying to handle this on his own." Said Lisa shaking her head
"I know, but trying convincing him of that," sighed Rafael, "He won't even listen to my father."
It was about then that everyone realized that there was someone who didn't seem to be listening to the conversation.
They looked around and saw Connor sitting on the other Picnic blanket, lost in thought with his chin in his hand.
Elle sat down next to him and so did the others.
"Penny for your thoughts," said Stevie
"I'm thinking that the Sundance Clan in like the proverbial snake," Replied Connor, "and to "Kill" it we need to cut off its head!"
"But not even the other Romani know who the king of the Sundance clan is!" said Rafael
"That's not what I meant." said Connor, "From what you've told us the Clan doesn't do anything unless they get paid for it, so instead of locating the clan itself it might be easier to find out who they're working for!"
