Chapter 33 : We are a Family

Sofia's POV

The elevator ride to the room where my mother and little brother were staying seemed to take forever. My heart was beating extremely fast, a sign of my impatience to finally meet William. Neither of us dared to say a single word so as not to break the magic within us. It was an excitement I had not felt before.

We arrived a few moments later in front of room 4007, the room where my mother was. I knew that behind that door, the future of our family was waiting for us.

Mamma opened the door and as soon as the door was ajar, my gaze went to a little being, lying in Mummy's arms. He seemed to be looking up at the sky. Seeing me hypnotized by this vision, Mamma told me to follow her and to come closer to me too. I walked to bed and sat silently beside my mother to take a closer look at William.

This small baby was simply beautiful, he had big, beautiful blue eyes and a small clump of blond hair on the top of his head. His gaze wandered all over the room. He silently discovered everything he could reach with his eyes.

I couldn't take my eyes off him because I had the impression that if I looked at anything else, he would fly away.

"Welcome to the family, William." I ended up saying.

"What do you think of your little brother?" Mamma asked as she put her hand on the baby's forehead.

"He is so small," I answered, "he is so beautiful. I agree with you, Mamma. He is a true masterpiece."

"This is so true." Mamma approved.

"Welcome among us, my son." Mummy continued. "Welcome to our family. We're going to take very good care of you, little man."

"The three of us already love you," Mamma said, "and we will love you with the same intensity for the rest of your life."

"Little brother," I introduced myself, "I am your big sister. My name is Sofia. I don't really know what to say to you, what to say to a child who has just arrived in this family, but in any case, know that I will do everything I can to make you the happiest of boys. If you want, I'll lend you all my toys to play with."

"Don't worry about it, sweetie," Mamma said to me while putting a kiss on my forehead, "you won't need to lend him your toys. We'll buy some for William, but you can still play with him."

"Mummy," I said after a few seconds, "can I take him in my arms?"

"Of course." Mummy answered. "But I would rather you sit on the bed to carry him."

I sat on the bed next to Mommy and she put the baby in my arms. I was so afraid to break this beautiful porcelain doll that I didn't even dare to move.

Her skin was so soft and silky, I didn't want to let go of it.

"He is an angel!" I said, looking into his eyes. "He is a little angel, like on the paintings we study at school."

"If he is angel," Mamma added with a smile, "he should have superpowers."

"Do you think he has superpowers?" I asked.

"He probably has some," Mamma replied to me as she picked him up, "this moment is full of magic and it is thanks to him therefore we can consider that he has superpowers."

"When I was born," I asked them, "did I have superpowers too?"

"Of course you had superpowers," Mummy explained to me, "but you didn't have the same ones. William knew how to make everyone happy, but on your side, you had superhuman strength."

We stayed several minutes more to be hypnotized by this beautiful little baby without saying a word. Nevertheless, at one point, a nurse entered the room and talked to us.

"I'm sorry to bother you during this kind of time but visiting hours will soon be over and on top of that, I'm going to have to borrow this beautiful baby to go give him a bath."

"Alright." Mamma said. "We are going to leave!"

"Nevertheless," the nurse offered, "I can set up a bed for you to be there for your son's first night."

"No, don't worry about it," Mamma answered, "Our daughter needs to go to school tomorrow and we don't want to leave her alone."

"In that case," the nurse concluded with a smile, "I will leave you a few moments to say goodbye and I will come back later to take care of this little jewel."

We said an emotional goodbye and then we both left the hospital and went home.
