Chapter 33: Mine
"Drew, are you ready to meet the royals from a different kingdom?" May asked.
"Sorta…" Drew said unsurely.
May looked at him in confusion. "Why sorta?"
"Well...male royals always try to...you know."
"They try to what?"
Drew faced forward. "They try to woo you." He said quietly.
May heard what Drew said. She found herself smiling. She placed a hand on Drew's on his throne's armrest. Drew looked at her to see her bright smile.
"I don't really think it's a good time for smiling." Drew said.
May giggled and then moved her hand under Drew's, interlocking fingers with his. "I'm smiling because...there's nothing to worry about. The Prince of the kingdom we invited here might try to woo me, but it won't work."
"I know. I trust you." Drew said.
"Oh. Then why…?"
"The reason I'm worried is because if he tries anything, then I'm just going to be mad at him. And being King...I probably shouldn't get mad at anyone, huh?"
"You can be mad at people. Remember when my Dad was mad at you for stopping that wedding a long time ago?"
"Yeah, but…" he faced forward and looked down. "I want to show you that I could handle the boys that try to woo you."
May stared at Drew. She opened her mouth to say something, but the Throne Room doors opened. May and Drew look at the people who are walking towards them. They release hands and May places both hands on her lap.
The King, Queen, and Prince of the Heart Kingdom stopped walking when they got to their appropriate spot away from May and Drew.
"Your Majesties." The King started. "I'm King Roland of Heart. It's a pleasure to meet you both and to visit the wonderful kingdom of Hoenn."
"Pleasure to meet you too." May said.
"I'm Queen Charlotte." The Queen said. "I look forward to getting along with the King and Queen from a neighboring kingdom."
"So do we." May said. She glanced at Drew and saw that he had a serious expression on. He seems to only be staring at the Prince.
"And I'm Prince Adrian. Pleasure to meet you."
"You too." May said. She looked at Drew again. "Drew, what's wrong?" She whispered.
Drew looked at May. "You know how I feel about people that try flirting with you." He whispered back.
"But he's not flirting with me now. Please look happy, okay?"
After a few moments, Drew found himself smiling. "I'll try, May."
May smiled. They both faced forward. "So, how does a tour of Petalburg City sound to you? I think it'll be great to explore Hoenn first thing."
"Sounds fine by me." Roland said. "Lead the way."
May and Drew both stood up and walked down the stairs. They started walking towards the royal family.
"Follow us outside." Drew said, walking past them.
May and Drew led the royal family outside where they entered a carriage. May and Drew then went to the stable where they climbed on their Rapidash and went back to the carriage.
"Wow...you both know how to ride Rapidash?" Charlotte asked.
"We sure do." May said. "We'll be showing you the sights from the sides of the carriage."
Drew looked at May. "May, a word." He said, his Rapidash walking past May's.
May looked at Drew and then at the royal family. "Excuse me. I'll be right back." Her Rapidash followed Drew's.
May and Drew stopped at the center of the large driveway.
"What is it?" May asked. "Is everything okay?"
"I just want to ride next to you when we give them a tour of the city. I have to keep a close eye on the Prince."
May blushed slightly. "You really are so protective over me."
"Sorry, it's just-"
May reached out and placed her index finger on Drew's mouth, cutting him off. "I never said that was bad."
Drew smiled. May lowered her hand and smiled back. "I like that you're protective over me." May said. "You don't have to ride on the opposite side of the carriage than me. Let's ride side-by-side."
"Thanks."
May nodded and then walked off on her Rapidash. Drew followed her. They went back to the carriage.
"Okay then. Let's get this tour started." May said.
The coachman started driving the carriage. May and Drew rode their Rapidash next to each other on the right side of the carriage. They're just walking. Not running or galloping. Just walking.
They all exit castle walls and start riding on the main road. "So, welcome to Petalburg City." May said. "Home to the royal family. This is the heart of our kingdom."
The royal family of Heart looked around them. "Your Kingdom looks amazing." Charlotte said. "It's obvious that you two make the best King and Queen this kingdom could have."
May and Drew smiled. "Thanks." They said together.
"Do the people like you two on the Throne?" Roland asked. "I know that you haven't even been ruling for a whole year yet."
"Why don't you see for yourselves?" May asked, waving to some people on the sidewalk.
They waved back to May and Drew. "Hi, Your Majesties!" A girl said happily.
"Have a nice day, everyone." May said. She lowered her hand.
"Wow...the bright smiles on everyone's faces…" Charlotte started. "The beautiful scenery...I can tell that you two work really hard for your kingdom and subjects."
"Thank you, Your Majesty." May said. "It means a lot for another royal to compliment our work." May paused a moment before glancing at Drew, smiling, and continuing. "And even though this is Drew's first ever year of being a royal," Drew looked at May. "He's the best King I could ask for." Drew smiled.
They both faced forward. "All I can say is...I love being King alongside my Queen." Drew said. May blushed.
May and Drew showed the royal family all of the city and they came back to the castle afterwards. They got to know each other and how they run their kingdoms. The visiting royal family then left when it's almost dark out. They only planned on staying for the day, so they're already on their way home.
May and Drew are in their room. "So Drew, you were great when speaking to those royals." May said.
Drew sat down on the bed. "Was I?"
May smiled brightly and nodded. She walked to Drew. "Of course you were."
Drew looked up at May. "I guess the King side of me shined today."
"King side of you?" May questioned.
"You know...there's the part of me that's a commoner and a part that's the King. I guess I was able to speak with that royal family because my King side really shined. If it didn't, I'd probably make a fool of myself in front of other royals."
May sat down next to Drew. They looked at each other. May smiled. "I don't see two parts of you when I look into your eyes."
Drew stared at May.
"To me…" she placed her hand on Drew's without looking away from his eyes. "I only see my King."
"But...I originally was a commoner." Drew said.
"But you're not anymore. And I no longer see you as a commoner. I only see you as my charming and handsome King."
Drew blushed.
"You did great with those other royals, because you wanted to make me happy. Am I right?"
Drew smiled. "You always are."
"You wanted me to be proud of you for perfectly handling a visit from another royal family. And I'll tell you this...I've never been more proud of you...King."
"Thanks."
"You also stopped worrying so much about Adrian. Why?" May asked.
"Well, he didn't try anything on you." Drew said. "So I got over that slight anger with him and I was able to make you even more happy."
"You sure did." May said. "Great job today."
"You too."
(This song is "Mine" by Taylor Swift. There's changed lyrics.)
"Say...remember the first time we met?" May asked.
"How could I forget...clumsy?" Drew asked.
May giggled. "Every now and then…" she faced forward and looked up at the ceiling. "...I just like to think about all we've been through. Saving our kingdom...saving each other...dating with tons of fans after us...and now...ruling together."
Drew smiled. May started singing. "You were just walking down the main street with your friends. You saw me wandering, went to go help. I was so clumsy, then you saw me falling. Running, catching me in your arms, and from there it lasts." Drew smiled.
May looked at Drew. "I say, 'Can you believe it?' As we're ruling on the thrones. The moment, I could see it. Yes, yes, I could see it now."
"Do you remember we were sitting there by the water?" May sang. "You asked me out on a date for the first time. You made me see that you were really truly loving me. You are the best thing that's ever been mine."
Drew blushed slightly. He took his hand out from under May's and he wrapped it around May's waist, holding her close to him. May rested her head on Drew's shoulder and continued singing.
"Flash forward, and we're taking on the world together. And there's a future to live since we saved our world. You learned my secrets and we strengthened our relationship. We wish we'll never make a single mistake."
May lifted her head off of Drew's shoulder and looked at him. "But we have a job to do." May continued. "And I have all I could need. It may be all still new. Yes, yes, but we're learning indeed."
"Do you remember we were sitting there while it's snowing?" May sang. "You pressed your lips against mine for the first time." May and Drew both blushed at the memory of their first kiss. "You made me feel those butterflies, flying in my stomach. You are the best thing that's ever been mine." She leaned her head back on Drew's shoulder. Drew held her to him in his arm.
"Do you remember all the lights at night on the water?" May continued. "You saw me start to believe for the first time. Our true love is what keeps us close to each other. You are the best thing that's ever been mine."
"And I remember that night, singing at the prom." May sang. "When we were there dancing and you took both my hands. A fairytale ball was what you made that night feel like to me."
Drew gently lifted May's head up and turned it to look at him. May blushed and Drew smiled. "Then that night went so wrong." May continued. "I ran out to get away. You found me and sang a song. You said, 'I still love you anyway'. You said,"
"I remember how we felt, sitting by the water." Drew sang. May smiled. "And every time I look at you it's like the first time." He tucked hair behind May's ear. "I fell in love with a beautiful, kind hearted daughter. She is the best thing that's ever been mine."
"Our true love is what keeps us close to each other." May sang. "You are the best thing that's ever been mine. Do you believe it? We're gonna make it now. And I can see it." May raised her hand up and brushed Drew's cheek. "I can see it now." She sang, finishing the song.
"Those are some good memories." Drew said.
May smiled. "They sure are. Every now and then, I think about us. And our relationship. What we've been through." She paused before continuing. "Sometimes, it helps with calming my mind down."
"You have to calm down at times?"
"Yeah. It's hard ruling a kingdom...you know? It could be really stressful and I may get too stressed out to concentrate on fixing problems, so I just think of us and I'm fine."
"Wow...I had no idea that you even got stressed out from this." Drew said.
"Yeah...how could I not? This is only our first year as King and Queen. There's a lot of stress in the first year."
Drew smiled. "I'm lucky to have you as my wife."
May blushed. "T-thanks."
"I know I say this a lot, but...you're amazing...Your Majesty." Drew said. May smiled shyly. "And if I ever get too stressed to think straight, I'll think of us."
May smiled brightly. "Sounds good."
Drew leaned in closer to May and whispered in her ear. "I love you so much."
May blushed. "I love you too."
Drew backed away from May to claim her lips in a gentle kiss.
