So I'm borrowing an aspect from the video game Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 called Synergy Attacks, but the way it's handled in my fanfic is slightly different.
Episode 33: Synergy Attack!
"Thought you could escape from here, didn't you?" The Grandmaster said to Peter. "After Loki's little charade pretending to be me, I happened to show up at the control room which confused Topaz. So she told me what I apparently asked for, and I intercepted Loki. Then following a controlled shock session, he spilled your escape plan to me and agreed to help round up the conspirators in exchange for his life."
Peter glared at Loki. "How could you do this to us? I thought you wanted to get out of here."
"While I most certainly do, it wasn't in my best interest to die for your so-called cause," Loki said. "So I'm back on the Grandmaster's side for now."
"I'll be sure to put you on a tighter leash when this is all over," the Grandmaster said to Loki. He then turned his attention back to Peter. "Now, if you hand over Thor's Obedience Disk I won't have Topaz kill your girlfriend."
Smiling maliciously, Topaz held up the staff with the yellow orb and pointed it toward MJ's neck. Before Peter could answer, a shadow fell down from above right in front of him. It was Thor, and as he landed on the ground his feet created an electronic pulse wave that electrocuted Topaz and the Grandmaster causing them to collapse into unconsciousness including Peter. When Peter was awoken, though, he saw not only Thor and MJ with their packs but also Loki.
"Sorry for accidentally shocking you, Pete," Thor apologized. "I'm still getting used to this new gift."
"But, Loki betrayed us," Peter muttered as he was helped to his feet by Thor.
"Not exactly," MJ said. "After he was interrogated by the Grandmaster, he came here and told us what he did. So we decided to lure the Grandmaster and Topaz here by pretending to have me captured. Then once you showed up, Thor was going to shock Topaz and the Grandmaster out without electrocuting you. But Thor apparently overestimated his sense of control."
"That's an understatement," Loki responded. "I at least was able to cast a convincing illusion of myself restraining MJ using the Mind Stone Badge I swiped from Peter."
Loki then tossed the Mind Stone Badge back to Peter, who was speechless.
"Okay, so onto the next phase of our escape plan," Thor said after a pause. "We need to get the Grandmaster's remote and head over to the building where our PDBs are."
###
Following the removal of MJ and Loki's Obedience Disks using the Grandmaster's remote, they along with Thor and Peter made their way quickly to the building they first woke up in where the PDBs were. Two guards were posted at the entrance, though Loki cast an illusion to seem like the Korg was going on a rampage causing them to leave their post. Once they were inside the building, Thor smashed the glass case with the PDBs. Not only did they find the ones containing their Marémon, but also those of the other enslaved Marémon Wielders.
"How are we going to carry all of these PDBs over to the stadium without anyone noticing?" MJ questioned. "We probably should have thought of that before doing this."
"I know! Noirstel should use Spider Web to put the PDBs into and Spidermin will have the Spider Drone carry it," Peter decided.
"Do you think one drone could lift several pounds worth of PDBs?" Loki questioned.
"Well, we've got to try something," Thor insisted. "It's only a matter of time before the Grandmaster tries to stop us."
Suddenly, the artificial light coming in through the door to the building was blocked by a dense shadow. Thor, Loki, Peter, and MJ looked towards the entrance and heard soft thuds. Gripping their PDBs, the four tensed up when they saw the Korg that guarded the entrance to Sakaar emerge into the hallway they were in between the prison cells and the shattered glass case where the PDBs had once been.
"I suppose it was only a matter of time before we had to deal with this thing again," Thor said. "But let me handle him, since I've got a score to settle."
"No, wait," MJ objected, staying Thor's hand. "Let's try to communicate with it."
"Aren't we on a time crunch, though?" Loki reminded.
"Yes, but I'm with MJ on this," Peter said. "Because the last time we fought it, we didn't get away. So we might as well try a different approach and maybe it'll help us."
Loki rolled his eyes. "You're putting a lot of expectations on a worthless pile of rocks."
Hearing that, the Korg lunged forward and swung its rocky arm at Loki. This caused Loki to make himself turn invisible and hide somewhere. Meanwhile, Thor summoned Thunderthor, who swung his hammer at the Korg's kneecaps. Unfortunately, they barely left a dent as the Korg now went after Thunderthor.
"Use Body Electric, Thunderthor!" Thor ordered. "It'll synchronize with my power!"
Nodding in agreement, Thunderthor's body channeled with electricity as Thor did the same with his. Then the two of them sent a powerful electric wave that knocked the Korg to the ground.
"Wow, Thor used a Synergy Attack," MJ remarked. But upon seeing Peter's confused face, she explained, "That's when a Marémon and a Wielder perform a synchronized move that has twice the power of a normal Attack. Usually, though, it happens if the Wielder is a Magic-User, an Extraterrestrial, or a Mutant."
"Oh, right, I forgot about that," Peter realized.
Shaking her head, MJ responded, "I'm surprised you didn't react when the Grandmaster called me your girlfriend."
Jarred by MJ's sudden change in subject, Peter asked, "Was I supposed to react?"
MJ looked away as her face turned red from embarrassment.
"Hey, Loki!" Thor said as his and Thunderthor's electrical pulses simmered down. "Did you see that? I just took down a Korg with my Thunderthor with a Synergy Attack! Wanna try and top that with your Lokeen?"
When no answer came, Thor looked back to see that Loki wasn't next to Peter or MJ. The sound of soft footsteps suddenly drew his attention to his left as he heard them move past him and run down the hallway up to the entrance.
To be continued…
