Chapter 33: Unexpected
She'd been running for a while. She'd been running for so long now that the sun was actually beginning to break the horizon. The sky had turned red with the impending rise of day, and Sammy had spent all that time running as fast as she could. It was easy to run at full speed without stopping. Maybe that was because she was a werewolf, or maybe it was because she felt like she was running for her life from people who wouldn't understand why she had to kill those boys. Either way, she'd finally stopped, and was now strolling down a residential street in a place that wasn't Beacon Hills and dialing Aiden on her phone. The first ring was expected, the second ring wasn't exactly encouraging, and the third ring was definitely discouraging, but before there could be a fourth, he answered.
"Hello?" He answered in a groggy voice. He'd been sleeping. All that nonsense about being too busy to go to a party with her that night, and he'd been sleeping.
"Baby, I need you to pick me up," she informed him quickly, trying to get her bearing on where she was.
"Can't it wait a few hours?" he yawned.
"No, it can't. I killed Thomas at the party last night, and now I'm in the middle of some town North of Beacon Hills, alone, barefoot, and in my pajamas because my the merry trio of self righteousness accused me of murder and confirmed their suspicions when they saw my eyes," she explained. The other end of the line was silent for a moment.
"Tell me an address, and I'll find you," he assured her. She caught the sound of a familiar voice, and looked in its direction.
"8228 Bridle Avenue," she told him, now drifting towards the house she pulled the address from. The voice was so familiar, but she couldn't just jump to judgments, thinking it was him or not. She had to be sure.
"That's not too far from here. Just hand tight and I'll see you soon, baby," Aiden told her. Sammy hung up the phone and snuck near the house's backyard, where she peered between the wood planks in the fence to see if it was really him.
Letting his dog out was exactly who she thought it was. Brandon stood there on his own back patio, shirtless and wearing just a pair of gray sweatpants as he watched his dog choose a spot to go to the restroom. It was funny, stereotypical even, that his family owned a golden retriever. They were great dogs, but the stereotyped breed for the traditional nuclear family. Except he wasn't the stereotypical guy. He was a very bad person that did very bad things to people who didn't deserve it. Or maybe she had deserved it because the universe knew it would be her paying up front for the terrible things she was going to do to them. That's an awful way to live, trying to rationalize why something happened to you and coming to the conclusion that you might've deserved it.
She watched Brandon for a while as he watched his dog explore their backyard for the first time in the morning. It stopped to pee, marking its territory, and then it continued on, sniffing for somewhere to do its business. She just watched the two until the dog had finished what it needed and went up to Brandon for petting and to head inside. Lucky for her, Aiden's truck soon pulled up and Sammy turned away from the fence and got into his car, hoping to god that she wasn't seen, or at least recognized.
"You haven't slept yet, have you?" Aiden asked. He still looked tired, and now that he'd said it, her own exhaustion had finally crept in and taken hold.
"No, I haven't," she answered. He nodded and started driving. She knew he wouldn't take her home, so she assumed he was taking her to where he lived, which was surprising. She'd never seen where he lived.
"So how did you do it?" he inquired. Sammy sighed.
"I made it look like a suicide, or accident, more or less. I suffocated him with my hands over his nose and mouth before getting him to 'slip' out of the window and crack his head on the pavement," Sammy told him. "It's fine, he was already drunk so it'll be believable," she added.
"You're really upping your game. I expected him to be slashed to ribbons," Aiden mused, reaching over and resting his hand on her thigh as he drove.
"Well, I probably should've dragged him out to the woods and did what I did to Cole, but Thomas was such an easy target. The only issue is that Scott and Stiles are all over it now," She sighed. Sammy loved her brother, she loved Scott, but neither of them could understand and likely would never understand how she'd felt for months. They may never understand how good it felt to get revenge on those who would use her like that. There weren't many people in her life that did know, and yet there were probably thousands if not millions of girls just like her that have gone through what those boys did to her.
"It's gonna be okay. Even if they know you killed him, the only person they'd rat on you to is probably Derek-"
"They did rat on me to Derek. He didn't even try to catch me when I sprinted from my house," Sammy laughed awkwardly. "I am so screwed."
"No, you're not. I promise. Plus, we're almost home," he told her. It finally hit Sammy.
"I've never seen where you live."
"I know."
"The other alphas live there."
Aiden laughed and said, "I know."
"I've never met the other Alphas. Not other than Ethan. I kind of met Deucalian, but it was just at the Diner. He just had to-go orders-"
"I know," Aiden laughed again, cutting off her rambling. "You'll be fine. They'll like you. From what I understand, you've already made quite the impression."
"What the fuck do you mean I've already made an impression?!" Sammy panicked, but the truck had already come to a stop, and Aiden was shutting off the engine.
"Come on, only Kali and Deucalian are awake. Plus, they're a little busy with something, so I'll take you to my room, and we'll get you all settled. You need sleep," he told her. He got out of the car. Hesitantly, she followed suit, her bare feet now padding against the concrete of their driveway. The house itself was only halfway modest. It definitely looked larger than the Stilinksi residence, but it wasn't the size of Jackson's or Lydia's house. So far, it wasn't what she expected, and she definitely didn't expect her first visit for her to be barefoot and in pajamas. It was a bit awkward and embarrassing.
"Come on, hop up," Aiden told her, bending down at an angle, gesturing for her to hop on his back.
"Is this really a time for piggy back rides?"
"Not really, but your feet are covered in mud and Kali will kill me if we track mud into this house," Aiden explained. Sammy nodded along and hopped up on his back. He reached with a free hand and used his key to unlock the front door. As he carried her inside, she took in the sight before her. The house was rustic, well-kept, but certainly wasn't theirs. It looked like they were squatting in some poor family's house while they're on vacation. It made sense though. Aiden had told them that Deucalian is there to collect Alphas and move on. Derek was the most likely target, which would make for an awkward situation if he actually joined this pack. It would require him to kill all of them. He'd have to kill her, Isaac, Erica, Boyd, all of them.
"Aiden, is that the girl you keep running off to see?" a female voice called after him. He stopped and turned.
"Don't worry, I'm about to carry her to the bathroom, so we can clean off her feet," he quickly addressed, her dirt covered soles prevalent at the angle they sat.
"She's cute," the woman said.
"Thanks," Sammy smiled, looking on awkwardly from Aiden's back.
"Sammy, this is Kali," Aiden introduced. "Kali, Sammy."
"Nice to meet you, sorry for stealing him so early in the morning," Sammy apologized as Aiden continued on walking to help her clean off her feet. Looking back, she saw Kali smiling at the pair.
"She's very pretty," Sammy whispered to Aiden, and he smiled.
"She's the only female in our pack, for now," he told her.
Sammy woke up alone in an unfamiliar bedroom. She'd slept so deeply that it took a solid moment for her to remember where she was and how she got there. So, she ran through her own refresher. Thomas was dead, the self-righteous trio accused her of murder, they saw her blue eyes, she ran, somehow found Brandon's house, and then was picked up by Aiden. This was Aiden's room. It wasn't exactly decorated the way she'd imagined, but it definitely was a bedroom for a highschool boy. Though the room was plain, there were clothes scattered on the floor, a backpack thrown haphazardly next to the desk with his notebooks spilling out. Despite the state of the room, it didn't smell bad. The whole room just smelled like Aiden, and it made her feel at home.
Though, now that she'd stirred, Aiden peeked his head through the door.
"I was hoping you'd be awake," he began. "Are you hungry?" he asked. Sammy immediately became aware of the rumbling in her stomach that must've been kept at bay by her sleeping state. Now that she was awake, it felt like her stomach was eating itself. She nodded dramatically and climbed out of the bed.
"What are we eating?" She inquired as Aiden slipped her hand into his, leading her down the hall.
"You'll see," he smiled. She inhaled and got a good whiff of the house. Not only could she smell the other alphas, but she smelled burgers, hotdogs, chips, all wafting in from the door leading into the backyard.
Sammy didn't even care that she was still in her pajamas, she was just happy to finally be eating something. She may be a small female, but little werewolves need more food than one might think. Once he'd opened the sliding door further for her and the two of them stepped outside, Sammy was met with the sight of Ethan, Kali, Deucalian, and a man she assumed was Ennis. He was easy to figure out since he was the only Alpha she hadn't met. He was also much bigger than she'd expected, the man having to slouch slightly to even flip the burgers on the grill.
"Ah, our guest is awake," Deucalian greeted at the sight of her on their back patio.
"Yes, sorry for coming over unexpectedly," she apologized.
Kali laughed and said, "It wouldn't be the first time one of us had to hide out after killing someone. Don't worry, princess."
Caught off-guard, Sammy looked up at Aiden, and he just smiled. His demeanor helped her feel calmer in this unfamiliar situation.
"Just take a seat with Ethan and I'll bring over some burgers and side fixings," Aiden instructed.
"With cheese," she whispered to him before plopping down at the patio table.
"So, you're the Sheriff's daughter?" Ennis asked, looking back at her from the grill.
"Yes, my dad is Sheriff Stilinski," she confirmed. Her eyes drifted to notice Ethan currently shoveling a burger into his mouth. For a pack of alphas, they all seemed so normal. Like a family. Being in Derek's pack was nothing like this. He was cold and bonding time was getting your ass kicked in training.
"Funny how things work out then," Ennis mused. He was likely referring to how her dad was the Sheriff, and she was the town's newest little murderer. She just chuckled with him, even though she knew deep down that she would only truly kill the boys that hurt her, and after she killed Brandon, her days of pre-meditated murder would likely be behind her.
"Cut it out, Ennis. If she has the patience to date Aiden, we wanna keep her around," Kali snapped at the big guy. He just shrugged and kept flipping burgers.
"She's right," Deucalian laughed. "He's all focused on you instead of messing with us." The man's words made Aiden's cheeks burn with embarrassment, as did hers.
But Ethan just leaned over and said, "Don't worry, it's not a bad thing." That just caught her off-guard again. Everyone was so open to her presence, and yet she was a beta wolf in their presence. Each of them far stronger than she'd ever be as a beta wolf. But it seemed her alignment had shifted away from Derek long before these Alphas welcomed her as Aiden's little townie girlfriend. She was his, and apparently they liked it that way.
"So, are we gonna have to worry about people coming looking for her?" Deucalian asked, turning his head to Aiden instead of her.
"Stiles will likely cover for her to their dad, but he and the other wolves will go searching. Lucky for us, they don't know where we are, and they can't track her beyond where I picked her up in my truck," he informed the rest of his pack.
"It's a shame that they weren't so receptive to your actions. I hope you know they'd make the same choices if they were in your shoes," Deucalian assured her. He was facing her now, which was strange to her, as no one had yet explained how he could see when he was blind.
"It's alright, I'm just ready to eat," Sammy said as Aiden brought her a plate of cheese burgers.
