Carlisle and I have quarrelled. He said no good can come of my 'unhealthy obsession' with Bella. He needs to keep her name out of his filthy mouth.

Charlie had dropped into the hospital and handed over this picture. It transpires that the chief had set up a motion activated camera for security and it caught me on garbage day. Carlisle insisted I was sleepwalking and promised Chief Swan that I was under the care of Fork's sleep disorder center at the hospital. I have assurances that Bella will not be informed of my nocturnal treasure hunting. So there is that, at least.

I am livid, though! Carlisle started trying to lay down the law, saying I had been truanting an alarming amount and that this was the last straw. Esme looked so disappointed and kept fretting saying "Edward, honey, no' whilst I defended my actions as they were: ones of admiration and reverence. If they think I will let precious treasure go to landfill because of this, they have another thing coming. I shall simply approach the garbage can from the other direction in future.

The argument was brought to a swift end when Carlisle told me I must relinquish the bounty I have gathered so far. I responded by screaming 'You can't tell me what to do! You're not my real dad!', grabbed the offending photograph and beat a hasty retreat to my room.

Nobody understands me!

Once again I am assailed on all sides.

I shall flee to Volterra forthwith!

Thank you all so, so much for your reviews, comments and for reading along so far.

This chapter brings us to the end of volume 1, but fear not, volume 2 is well underway and Edward is going to have to deal with some uncomfortable truths. There will be much wringing of hands and hissing.
