"Scamp! Get off!"
Angel glared daggers at the grey dog when he got off of her. He ducked sheepishly at her. "Sorry. You looked kinda' bored."
"Sitting still and watching is not the same as being bored." Her glare finally softened. "You gotta' grow up one day Scamp."
He rolled his eyes when she said that. "Yeah, yeah...so what are you watching?"
"It's not what I'm watching, it's who I'm watching."
Scamp peered out at the lawn where Collette was sniffing a few of the plants, the flowers and a bunch of weak roses seemed to especially have her attention.
"Collette? Wow you must be really bored. Nothing is ever going on with Collette."
"You know, you're really bad at seeing the obvious."
He rolled his eyes again. "She's sniffing a few roses, so what?"
"She's been doing that almost all day long. Look closer." Angel narrowed her eyes closely at Collette. "Look how happy and giddy she looks, it's almost as if she's stuck in a daydream."
Scamp chuckled. "I think that you're overreacting, since when is being happy like that a crime?"
"You seem to forget that before today, Collette was upset all the time. Annette hardly has the time to pay her anymore attention, Danielle left, she keeps whining about that clock that wakes her every morning and she couldn't seem to stop beating herself up over the littlest things, now she's gone half the day and anytime I see her, she looks like the happiest dog imaginable." She took a deep breath. "You mean to tell me that you're not even slightly concerned?"
"Look, I've known Collette my entire life, if something was really wrong, then trust me, I would have picked up on it by now."
Angel sighed annoyingly. "Sometimes you are just impossible."
She turned and started to walk away, but Scamp jumped in front of her, rump raised in the air. "C'mon let's do something fun. Like play chase, or tag, or-"
"How about no?"
"Fine." Scamp sighed, exacerbated. "What is going on with you lately?"
"Me?"
"What happened to the Angel from the junkyard? The Angel from the streets? The Angel who was actually fun? I'm tired of dealing with this new, boring Angel."
"Scamp." She retorted calmly. "There's a difference between being boring and being a little mature. It's called 'growing up' and as much as you hate the phrase, it might help if you tried it yourself, just once."
She felt his eyes on her back, as she slowly walked away.
