Chapter 34, enjoy!
The front door of the Taylor house creaked open. Tim and Coach Taylor quietly entered the house and were met by Tami who was sitting on the couch. Julie and Shelley had gone to bed as soon as the got home from Dallas, but Tami wanted to wait up to be sure Tim and Eric made it home. The team bus had arrived back in Dillon just before midnight.
"Hey," Tami greeted them in a whisper, getting up from her spot on the couch. "Everyone else is in bed already." Tim sat his bag down and went to the bathroom to change.
"I'm gonna let him sleep with Julie tonight if that's ok with you, I don't think he should be sleeping on that air mattress after hurting his shoulder," Tami said to Eric once Tim was in the bathroom.
"That's fine with me, but just for tonight," Eric responded. "They played a hell of a game, I'm sad it had to end that way."
"I know hun," Tami said gently rubbing her husbands arm. Tim came out of the bathroom in his shorts and cutoff t-shirt. He reached behind the couch for the air mattress. "Hey Tim, why don't you just go get in bed with Jules tonight. Sleep in a real bed for once." Tim nodded and made his way to Julie's bedroom. He tip-toed into Julie's room. She was sound asleep in her bed, curled up on her side in Tim's oversized shirt. He slipped off his sling and quietly laid it beside her bed. He lifted up the covers and slipped under them. He rolled on his side to face Julie who was peacefully sleeping, and drifted off into his own slumber.
The next morning, Julie was woken up by the bright morning sunshine flooding into her room from her partially opened blinds. As her eyes fluttered open, she saw a familiar face lying next to her in bed. When did he get in bed with me? Julie wondered. She decided he must be tired from the events of yesterday and getting home late, so she didn't wake him up. She wondered into the kitchen where she saw at note on the counter.
"Dad, Shells, and I went to church, be back soon. -Mom," The note read. Julie looked at the time displayed on the oven. It was only 9:30 meaning they had only been gone for a little less than thirty minutes. Depending in the sermon and how long they stayed afterwards, they probably wouldn't be home before 11:30 or even noon. Julie stomach growled, and a thought popped into her head. What if I make us some homemade pancakes? That sounds really good right now! She searched in the cabinets for the ingredients and laid them out on the counter. She began making the pancakes following her mom's famous recipe. Julie knew how much Tim loved her mom's pancakes, especially when she added chocolate chips in, so she made sure to put some chocolate chips in the batter for Tim. As she was finishing the pancakes, Tim came walking down the hallway and plopped down on one of the barstools.
"Good morning sleepy head," Julie greeted.
"Mornin'," He mumbled, the tiredness still evident in his voice.
"I made you some of your favorite pancakes," She said with a smile, sliding the plate in front of him.
"Thank you Jules," He responded shooting her a warm smile. She leaned across the bar to give him a kiss.
"You can thank your baby girl, she was making me crave some pancakes," Julie said placing a hand on her stomach where she felt her daughter kick. Tim only smiled as he took a bite of his pancake. "So how did you get lucky enough to get to sleep in my bed last night?" She asked.
"Your mom told me to come get in bed with you," Tim answered. "She said I should get to sleep in a real bed for once. Where are they anyways?"
"They went to church," Julie responded. "How is your shoulder this morning?" Julie questioned, noticing he hadn't put his sling back on this morning.
"It's been better, just a little sore," He answered. Julie sat down next to him and began eating her own pancake.
"You played great last night, don't beat yourself up about loosing," She comforted.
"Thanks. I'm not gonna beat myself up, I left it all on the field last night."
"Your really did play your heart out," She added, shooting him a comforting smile.
"No regrets," He said with a smirk as he took another bite of his syrup drenched pancake. The syrup from his pancake landed on his chin, and Julie laughed at him.
"Your such a messy eater," She giggled as she wiped it off with a napkin.
When they finished their breakfast, they each put their plates in the dishwasher and Tim headed back to Julie's room to put on his sling. Julie followed him.
"I have a surprise for you," Julie stated, digging in her suitcase. "Consider it an early Christmas present," She added pulling the sack from the mall from her suitcase. She removed the Dallas Cowboys onesie from the sack and held it up to show Tim. A smile crept onto his face. "Tyra and Lyla helped me pick it out. At first they found a Chiefs one but I told them you wouldn't let her wear that," Julie laughed. Tim chuckled.
"That's adorable, and I'm glad you found a Cowboys one," Tim responded.
"Just a few more months until we meet her," Julie said sitting in her bed. Tim sat beside her and put his arm around her shoulders.
"I can't wait to meet her," Tim replied.
Hope ya'll enjoyed!
