"Where's Shay?" Hector walked in Dominic's house after he had looked everywhere for her.
"She took off after the hospital and we lost her. She won't answer her phone." Brian said. "Hector, you know I can help if you just tell me what's up." He looked at Hector, hoping for some answers.
"Sorry, it's not my place to say anything. It's just my job to make sure those girls are okay." He held up his hands, shrugging.
"Thought you were trying to get on the NIRO circuit." Brian asked, thinking back when they had first met.
"Nah, I found there were better things out there than risking my life in a car." Hector shrugged. They both heard the door slam and went to the living room to find Shayde there, her hands and knuckles bloody and bleeding.
"Oh, Shay, what'd you go do?" Hector asked, pulling her into a hug, relieved she was okay.
"I'm fine, it's nothing. Just a lil payback." She shrugged, looking for the nearest bottle of alcohol she could find.
"Let's get you cleaned up." Hector said, ushering her towards the bathroom.
"It's nothing." Shayde protested. "I gotta get her out of there, Hector." she said, sighing. "No one else is obviously doing it." She complained.
"Shhh, you been drinking a bit? Come on, she's gonna be okay. I promise you. She knows how to handle herself when it comes down to it." He promised, giving her a hug.
"I only had a drink. I am fine. I am gonna go pack the rest of our stuff." She said, pulling her hand back in pain when he poured alcohol on her knuckles.
"Not until I bandage this, Home girl. " he said, pulling her hand back to him. "Damn you went at it. We gonna have to worry about murder charges next?" he asked, only half joking.
"Nope, you know I know how to handle myself. It's just fine," She said, shaking her head.
"You speak to him? Any updates?" She asked, chewing her lip.
"Nothing yet but we are working on it. Let's have you get some rest. She's gonna be okay. " he said, scooping her up and carrying her to the couch. He knew she wouldn't go to her room so he would settle for letting her stay by the couch.
"There's too much to do and I gotta find some trucks and…" She was interrupted by him putting a finger to her lip.
"I got it all under control. I am working on some things, okay. Just trust me and for both of your sakes, please get some rest while you can. Please. You know we have it handled." He said, giving her the drink he had crushed up some sleeping pills in. He knew she'd kill him in the morning but this was the best thing for her.
"She okay?" Dominic asked, sitting down in the living room.
"You know Shay. As good as can be." Hector nodded.
"She beat the hell outta that cop. I am glad I was there to stop her." Dominic said, making Brian and Hector both look up shocked.
"Dom, you knew where she was? You were with her?" Brian asked, shocked that Dominic had not told him a word.
"What? I couldn't let her go alone and make the same mistake I did all those years ago. She woulda killed him." Dominic sighed.
"She's gonna kill Hector when she wakes up." Brian predicted with a grin.
"Doubt it but maybe. She's unhinged when it comes to Kaidyn." Hector said, knowing he was really gonna be on her shit list when she woke up. "It was Monica's lucky day because Shayde coulda killed her on the spot." Hector shook his head.
"Hello." Brian answered his phone, looking puzzled.
"Hey, it's Monica. Can you come down here? We can't get anywhere with her and they are asking for someone to come chill her out. I figure maybe Shayde would let you come down but you can't bring her down here. I refuse to deal with her on top of Kaidyn." Monica said, talking quickly.
"If this is a set up..." Brian started, making Dominic and Hector look at him.
"It's not. She's being a brat and won't stop driving them up a wall. They are threatening to walk to the captain and he's pissed, she'll be in general if she doesn't stop." Monica said, sounding annoyed.
"I'm on my way." Brian didn't hesitate, grabbing his keys.
"Whoa, where are you going?" Dominic asked, Hector getting up and blocking the door.
"To the station. They need someone to talk to her. She's giving them too much hell I guess. She's not doing good." Brian said. Both guys gave him a suspicious look.
"Look, they know me. They know I know her. I am not a risk to them." Brian defended himself.
"What if they are setting you up?" Hector asked, wanting him to think about it before rushing out to a precinct so late at night.
"I'll go with him and make sure he ain't goin back to his Buster ways." Dominic said, skeptical if Brian wasn't just trying to do something more than see Kaidyn.
"Fine. Lets go. I got nothing to hide." He shook his head. "I am trying to help, why do you guys keep doubting me?" he asked, jumping in the car.
"Idk, I still remember what you did. I told you I may forgive but I don't forget." Dominic shrugged, his eyes locked on the road. "Tell her it's okay and that when she gets out we are gonna have a big old party." Dominic promised. Brian nodded and headed inside, hoping to see Kaidyn was doing okay.
"She's back here. We are keeping her from the general population for her safety. But she is about to be put in general if she doesn't stop." The jailkeeper warned, after Brian got processed in and patted down.
"Yeah, she's got energy." Brian grinned, glad to hear that she was being annoying rather than having a panic attack.
"Brian?!" She asked, sitting in the room with cuffs still on her hands.
"Whats up girl? They treating you okay here?" He asked, looking around.
"Not really. I wanna go home. Why did they let you back here? You with them?" she asked, skeptical and not really sure she could trust him now.
"I need you to trust me right now." Brian looked her intently in her eyes. "Can you pay attention for me? Just follow my lead okay? " He asked his voice low and almost a whisper.
"I can't follow you anywhere. I am cuffed to this table. I've been here all night. " She complained, sounding frustrating. He looked at her bloody wrists from her struggling with the cuffs.
"They put those on tight enough?" He asked, irritated.
"That bitch told them I was a flight risk and to not take them off." Kaidyn huffed, still struggling to get the cuffs off. "Then she came in here and said I had to sit down because I was annoying the guards." Kaidyn pouted.
"How's your head feeling?" he asked, being louder and making sure he was being heard this time. She looked at him questioningly. He gave her the best 'talk' he could give with his eyes. "I'm thinking that your head really hurts, huh?" He asked with a nod.
"Everything hurts right now." Kaidyn admitted, looking down.
"That bump on the forehead looks more swollen. You okay?" He asked, leaning in with concern, touching her forehead. She winced when he touched it. "It's okay, don't cry." He gave her a hug. "Come on, turn on the tears. You are in pain and you might need a doctor. They can get you back in the hospital." he whispered quickly.
"It hurts really bad." Kaidyn began to rock, holding her head. "The bright light hurts so much, Brian." She sniffled.
"Shay was really worried if the concussion was okay or not. I don't know if they should have dismissed you so quickly." He frowned. "Follow my fingers with your eyes." he said, hoping she would do the opposite.
"I can't, it hurts too bad." She said, tears rolling down her face. He grinned slightly, his back to the guard and nodded.
"Hey, it's okay." he said, trying to keep her calm, hoping she would again do the opposite. "I'll be right back okay?" he walked over to the guard at the door. "I think she needs a doctor. She just had a concussion and her eyes are not tracking. The last thing this precinct needs is for something to happen to her." He said, shaking his head.
"Brian, please don't leave me! It hurts!" She howled and was rocking back and forth. She was almost in full Kaidyn frenzy and the panic wasn't far from being fake seeing Brian so close to leaving out that door.
"I'll be right back, okay? But they may not let me back in. Hang on." he said, looking a bit flushed for added benefit so he seemed very concerned. He stepped out and requested his phone back from the officer holding his things. He called Bilkins. "Hey Bilkins, it's O'Connor. I may need some help and am calling in for that favor you said I had." he said, walking away from the door. He walked down the hall and sat in a chair.
"O'Connor, I swear if you had anything to do with this." Monica came walking at a fast pace while her heels clicked loudly on the concrete floor.
"What are you talking about?" he asked innocently, looking up at her. "Why are you here in Cali? How much they paying you and who are you really after?" he asked, his eyes narrowing.
"I don't have time to answer your questions. I gotta ride with her to the hospital. Meet me there." she walked off, her demeanor icy. Brian took off to his car, jumping in the car like he was about to go race.
"What's up, why are you so damn happy?" Dominic asked, looking up shocked to see him moving so fast.
"We are on the way to the hospital. See that ambulance? They are taking her back to the hospital. I'll let you call Hector." he grinned.
"Wow, Impressive for a former Buster. You gotta tell me all the details." he grinned, putting on his seatbelt.
