Chapter 36: A special moment

Grissom walked outside and headed towards his wife as she was talking on the phone. "Thank you...yes...ok...Bye."

As she was removing the phone from her ear, she looked at husband with tears in her eyes, then she nodded with a smile. "It's 100%, without a doubt, positive. I'm pregnant, you're going to be daddy again."

His eyes beamed as he cupped her cheek to wipe her tears away while replying with emotion. "And you're going to be a mommy again."

They share a sweet kiss before they get into each other's arms for a hug.

He ran his hand up and down her back as he spoke again after clearing his throat. "I should inform you that mom knows. I didn't tell her, she found out. She said something about seeing it in my eyes, that I have this glow."

She smiled as she pulled back and looked into his eyes to see what her mother-in-law was talking about, and she nodded as she cupped his cheek. "Yes, you do, and it's gotten bigger."

He smiled as he cupped her cheek again. "And so do you, but doesn't that present us with a problem? We go back in there and everyone will know, so how do you want to handle it?"

She sighed. "I don't think I could hide this look even if I wanted to, so I think we just go back in there and not say anything, let our looks speak for themselves and if they ask, we'll be truthful about it."

Going with what she requested, he nodded with another smile before they share another kiss, with a slight passion to it, then after pulling back, they whispered their love towards one another and headed back into the restaurant hand in hand.

When they made it back to their family's area, the only thing that was asked was if everything was ok, which they did answer truthfully that it was but offered no more details, and while they never asked, the older ones could sense there was more to that phone call than they were letting on, so there was some known looks but nothing was said about it because, one, they did want to wait for Sara and Grissom to announce when they were ready, and two, they wanted to be mindful of Billy, just incase Sara and Grissom wanted to tell him first before actually telling everybody else, so he didn't feel blindsided about the now reality of a sibling.

After dinner was over, Tyreek and Michelle said goodbye since they both had to be in Los Angeles tomorrow, he had a game, and she had an interview, looking to expand her clothing line.

Then not long after they had left, the rest of the family members said goodnight before parting, and after Sara and Grissom made it home, it didn't take them much time to start kissing as they were navigating their way to their room, even unbuttoning a few buttons of their shirts along the way. But before the momentum could really pick up speed, a yawn had interrupted them, then a second and a third, and after the fourth one, they decided to cut their loses with a smile before Sara sighed. "I'm sorry, I know it's your birthday and we have something else to celebrate, I'm..."

He cuts her off in an understanding tone as he ran his thumb up and down her cheek. "It's ok honey, we did have a very early morning."

As Sara nodded, a sick feeling came over her and she turned to rush towards the bathroom, proving that even if the yawns wouldn't have caught up with them, then this action would have more than likely ended their night's planned.

Grissom headed towards the bathroom, wincing when he heard her getting sick before picking up a cup and filling it with water, then he turned towards her and kneeled down, holding out the cup towards her while running his hand up and down her back in a soothing motion.

When she was done, she took the glass and rinsed out her mouth before flushing the toilet with a sigh before turning to look at her husband. "I have a feeling this one is going to be bad, at least for a few months."

He nodded in agreement before speaking softly. "And I think maybe you need to let Nate know, so he can keep you in the lab."

"Griss..."

He cuts her off with a pleading look. "Please, at least until the morning sickness is controlled a little more, you don't want to contaminate the crime scene."

Sara nodded with another sigh. "As much as I hate the idea, you're right."

Giving her a sympathy look now, he nodded. "I know you don't like staying in the lab, honey, but whatever sacrifice we have to make will be worth it, just think about what we get at the end of this." Sara started to smile as she looked down at her stomach as he slipped his hand on top of it while finishing with emotion. "A little you."

She lifted her head up to look at his shinning blue eyes. "Or a little you."

They couldn't stop staring at one another for several minutes with the most happiest look on their faces before he leaned forward and kissed her forehead. "I'll let you finish up."

She nodded as he pulled back, then after getting up, he walked out of the bathroom to change into his sleeping clothes.

Once Sara was done in the bathroom, she slipped off her pants and changed into a t-shirt before turning towards the bed to see Grissom lifting up his side of the covers with a warm smile, causing her to smile in return as she walked up to him, then after slipping under the covers so she was laying on top of him, she whispered softly. "Thank you. I have the most loving, understanding husband in the world."

He runs his hand up and down her back in a soothing motion and kissed the top of her head with the smile still on his face. "You know half of this is my fault."

She smirked. "True, but you wouldn't change a thing."

He chuckled, her feeling it as she closed her eyes before he spoke again. "Not one bit." Then he winced as he amended his comment. "Well ok, I would change your sickness, uncomfortableness and the pain at the end."

She moved her head so she could look into his eyes as she whispered. "You would, if you could, take away all the not so great side effects of my pregnancy."

No hesitation, and completely serious, he whispered. "In a heartbeat."

If there was one thing he heated seeing, it was anything that caused Sara discomfort/pain, it tore at him seeing her go through that during their first pregnancy, he even at times felt guilty, because like he just said, half of what she's going through was his fault. But then again watching her go through all of that, bringing their son into this world, made him admire and love her even more than he already did.

She started to smile. "See, I told you, the most loving, understanding husband in the world."

His smile gets cut of when her lips touched his for a sweet kiss, and after pulling back, she whispered again. "Love you, and happy birthday, babe."

"Thank you, and Love you too, honey."

They kiss one more time before she moved off him, only to cuddle at his side as she slipped her leg through his while he wrapped his arms around her, both falling asleep not long after.

Very early morning

While Sara was waking up, she didn't feel her husband's presence right next to her, at least where it should have been, it felt he was lower, and when she was fully awake, she finally heard his voice, so while trying to lie as still as possible, she opened her eyes and saw that Grissom was eye-level with her stomach, talking to their little one about the different family members he or she will be surrounded with, including the most important and specials ones, his or her mother and brother.

Sara smiled as she whispered. "And what about his or her father? Where does he come in at?"

Grissom looked up at her giving her one of the most shyest looks she's ever gotten from him, causing her heart to pitter patter as he spoke softly. "I'm sorry, I hope I didn't wake you, I just thought I would get some one on one time with our baby."

She waved it off before asking in concern. "Did you get any sleep?"

He sighed and shook his head. "A little, I just can't seem to shake this overwhelming feeling off." When he saw the worried look on her face, he continued as he slipped his hand under her shirt so it was on her stomach to calm her. "The good side of that feeling." His smile gets bright as he ran his thumb up and down her stomach. "I just can't believe this his happening, I'm going to be a father again."

She smiled as she joined her hand on top of his before she slipped her fingers through his. "And I'm going to be a mother again."

They bask in that thought for a few moments before he asks. "How are you feeling?"

"So far so good, maybe this is a good day."

Of course the 'day' has barely began so there was still so much of it to actually know how it would turn out, but he didn't want to mess with her good feeling at the moment, so he just nodded before leaning forward, lowering the blanket a little so he could lift up her shirt and give her stomach a soft kiss and whisper his love to their unborn child.

He then asked after he covered her back up while moving up so he was closer to her head. "Do you need anything?"

A look came to his wife's eyes, and knew exactly what she was going to say before she actually said it. "I need my husband."

His heart raced at the passionate tone and look in her eyes as he cupped her cheek. "You sure?"

She nodded as she took his hand from her cheek. "Yes. I feel fine, and maybe this will help shut off our brains enough so we can get some sleep, because we can't go on like this for nine months or else we'll be exhausted before we really should be with a newborn in our home."

With bright eyes, he leans down slowly before whispering. "Have I ever told you I love how your mind works."

Right before their lips touched, she responded with a smirk. "At least once or twice."

After just a few light kisses with their hands remained cupping each other's cheeks, eventually they wanted, needed more, and fortunately nothing stopped them from achieving that goal, and afterwards, while cuddled up next to one another, they fell asleep with smiles on their faces, blissfully happy and in love.

Later that night

When they woke up later that morning, they got ready for their day before joining the family at the diner, then once they ate, they said goodbye to them, and their son, who will be spending the day with his extended family, before heading off to the lab.

Now it was after work, the extended family had boarded the plane to go back home a few hours ago, and the rest of the evening, until it was bedtime, was planned for some quality time with their son.

Before they settled down and discussed what tonight's entertainment would be though, they wanted to talk to Billy first, because regardless if everybody else 'knew' about the pregnancy just by seeing their body language, they wanted to actually say the words to Billy before they told anybody else, outside of their supervisor.

However, they got a little surprised after Billy handed them a family picture he had drawn while at Stephanie's, showing he added a fourth person in their little family.

Sara cleared her throat first and asked. "Billy, who is this other person in the picture?"

Even though she obviously knew, she just wanted to hear it from her son.

He gave her a look that said 'you should know' before explaining it to her. "That's the baby."

This time Grissom asked the question. "Who told you?" When Billy looked down, thinking he was in trouble, Grissom continued with a reassuring smile as he placed his hand on his son's leg. "Buddy, you're not in trouble, or that you'll get anybody else in trouble, we just wanted to be the ones to tell you the news."

Sara chimed in next with a smile of her own. "That's right, we didn't want you to feel that we were hiding this from you."

Billy nodded in understanding before lifting his head up said. "I heard Aunt Stephanie and Nick talking about it, they didn't know I was awake and they tried to be quiet."

They nodded in understanding before Grissom asked. "And how do you feel about it?"

Billy shrugged. "I don't know, I guess a little overwhelmed with all the different feelings I do have."

They chuckled before Sara spoke again. "That's completely understandable, because believe me, we feel it too, just know that if you need to talk to us about anything, we are here for you, always and no matter what."

He nodded with a smile. "I know that mommy."

Both parents bring their son into their arms, and as they were pulling back, Billy asked. "Can we watch a few movies tonight?"

They both nodded before Grissom asked. "Popcorn?"

Billy giggled with a nod. "Of course, daddy. How can you not have popcorn with a movie?"

They chuckled before Sara teased her husband. "Yeah Griss, jeeze, get your priorities in order."

Grissom stood up with his arms up in surrender with a smile before heading towards the kitchen while Sara asked Billy to pick out the movies he wanted to watch.

Once the popcorn was done and the first movie was ready to go, the family sits down on the couch with Sara in the middle, while holding Grissom's hand, then halfway through the movie, Billy moved so he was cuddled at his mother's side and had wrapped his arm around her waist so his hand was on her stomach before moving his thumb up and down it in a soothing motion.

Sara squeezed Grissom's hand to get his attention, and when he saw what his son was doing, they looked at one another with tears in their eyes, because whatever worry they had, which was admittedly a little, about bringing another child into their home when it came to the sake of Billy was pretty much wiped away with their son's action just now.

As Grissom's attention turned back to the movie, Sara wrapped her free arm around her son and brings him closer to her and kisses his head, whispering her love for him before going back to the movie herself, beyond happy and excited to see what happens next.
