Volume 3 Chapter 11 The Escape
At Beacon
The two groups charged at each other, and immediately one on one battles started to happen between the two groups. With Marrow fighting against Professor Ozpin, Clover fighting against Qrow, Harriet fighting against Tai, Elm fighting against Professor Goodwitch and Winter fighting against Vine. Marrow started the fight against the professor by turning his weapon Fetch into its boomerang form and throwing it towards Professor Ozpin who used his speed to go underneath the weapon.
Ozpin rushed at Marrow and used his cane to launch several consecutive strikes at Marrow who used his arms to block most of them, but eventually started to grow tired and nearly put his arms down. That was until his boomerang returned to him and nearly hit Ozpin, which Ozpin heard and moved out of the way to avoid getting hit. Which gave Marrow an opening to use his semblance, which froze Ozpin in place while he was dodging the boomerang.
Marrow caught his weapon and turned it back into it's gun form, and was about to take aim at Ozpin, to knock the headmaster out. Only for a sparkle to appear in Ozpin's eyes, which looked like a clock gear, causing him to get unfrozen. Ozpin then rushed at Marrow with the speed he had been building up while frozen and delivered a powerful strike towards Marrow which caused him to crash into the wall of Beacon Tower completely knocked out.
Ozpin looked at his work, only for him to get knocked to the ground by Elm's hammer crashing into him. Seeing what she had done to her ally, Professor Goodwitch used her semblance to pick up some of the rubble and launch it at her opponent. Who used her semblance to have aura spout from her feet which allowed Elm to lock her feet into the ground, while tanking the the full front of the rubble launched at her. After tanking the attack, Elm kept her feet stuck to the ground and turned her hammer into it's rocket launcher form.
Elm fired several missiles at Professor Goodwitch, who did several backflips to dodge the rockets and to move out of the way of the explosions. After having dodged the explosions Professor Goodwitch used her semblance to pick up the metal from the rockets and used her weapon to infuse the metal with fire dust and then used her semblance to launch the fire dust infused rubble at Elm. Who was able to tank most of the explosions that were fired at her, only for her aura to break with the last explosion.
Elm kneeled over in exhaustion, due to her aura being drained, and Professor Goodwitch was about to use her semblance to form a stone prison around Elm. Only for her to get punched into a nearby wall at high speeds by Harriet, who had taken a break from fighting Tai to save her comrade. Only for Tai, who had used his semblance to increase his speed, to appear behind Elm and using his speed he knocked her unconscious.
Harriet got an angry look on her face because of this, and rushed at Tai with her speed. Only for Tai to dodge out of the way, making him say "Your anger blinds you."
"Shut up!" Yelled Harriet, as she rushed at Tai and delivered several punches. But doing so left herself open, and gave Tai the chance to use his semblance to increase his strength and used that to deliver a strong punch to Harriets gut. This stunned her for a few seconds, and as such she tried to create as much distance between her and Tai.
She ran backwards, and took a few seconds to catch her breath. After a few seconds she heard Tai calling out to her "What's the matter, had enough!"
"Not even close!" Yelled Harriet, as pure anger flashed on her face. She got into a position on the ground that would allow her to launch herself at Tai as fast as possible. Electricity started to build up throughout her body, and she used that stored up power to launch herself at Tai at full speed. Tai, seeing this happen, pushed his semblance to its fullest potential and increased both the speed and strength of his body, after which he launched himself towards Harriet at full speed.
The two ran at each other at full speed, and when they reached each other they launched their fists at each other. Their fists connected and it caused a shockwave, which destroyed the armour Harriet was wearing while Tai broke his left arm. With the body armour broken Harriet was unable to move, which gave Tai the opportunity to rush in and use his right arm to deliver several punches to Harriet. After which he knocked her out with a roundhouse kick to the head.
It was then that his aura broke, and Tai fell to the ground in exhaustion. In the meantime Vine and Winter were locked in their own battle, with Winter using her Glyphs to summon several white birds which she launched towards him. But Vine was able to deflect the birds with the whips of aura that he summoned from his arms, but that gave Winter the chance to summon several Glyphs on the ground and then rushed at him. When she got close to him she used her swords to deliver a powerful strike to him, which knocked him to the ground.
Winter saw this as a victory, only for a rope to be wrapped around her body to the point that she was unable to move. She fell to the ground and saw that Clover had managed to trip Qrow to the ground with his rope and had used the remaining fishing line to tie Winter up to the point that she wouldn't be able to move. Clover looked down on her and said "I told you that you were on the wrong side."
"No! What he is doing is wrong, can't you see that!" Winter spat back at him.
"Maybe, maybe not. But orders are orders." Replied Clover, only for his attention to be taken away by a shot getting fired into his back. He turned around and saw that Qrow had used his weapon to fire a shot at him. "Why did you do that?" He asked.
Qrow turned his weapon into its scythe form and replied "You and I weren't finished. I'm giving you one last chance, step aside and let us through."
"I'm sorry, I can't let you do that. Can't disobey orders from the General." Said Clover, as he threw out his fishing line.
"Very well then, just know that I gave you a chance to step away from this." Replied Qrow, who then charged at Clover with his weapon out and swung it at him. Only for Clover top launch his fishing line at Qrow's weapon, causing it to get stuck and gave Clover the chance to try and disarm Qrow. Clover began to swing his fishing rod around but Qrow managed to keep a hold onto his weapon.
Clover continued to use his fishing rod to keep swinging Qrow around, and while he was able to slam Qrow into the ground a few times, Qrow kept holding onto his weapon. So Clover changed his strategy and instead used his weapon to pull Qrow closer to him. Qrow allowed this to happen, which confused Clover at first but then Clover saw that Qrow was getting ready to strike at Clover.
So Clover threw the horseshoe, that he was carrying in his pocket, at Qrow which hit the man in the head and knocked him to the ground. Seeing as Qrow was no longer moving it gave Clover the opportunity to put the aura/semblance nullifying cuffs on Qrow.
"I told you, I couldn't let you pass." Said Clover, who noticed that Qrow was struggling agains the cuffs so he added "Don't even try getting out of those, you don't have your weapon and I know about your semblance from the general."
"Aww, that's nice of the general." Replied Qrow, with sarcasm in his voice. While at the same time the sky changed colour, which went unnoticed by everyone.
"You want to know something funny?" Asked Clover, to which Qrow gave a small nod as a reply. "My semblance brings good fortune, which is why you were unable to land a single hit on me." After Clover had said that Qrow began to let out a loud laugh, seeing this Clover asked "What's so funny."
Qrow stopped laughing and replied "The general might have told you what my semblance is, but what he didn't bother to tell you is how I have using it over the years!" Qrow then sat up in a crouching position so he could look Clover in the eyes as he said "Sure in the past I would cause bad luck to happen to myself or to others, but did you really think I would just do nothing to improve my semblance that I would just wallow in my own sadness and misery!"
"That's enough out of you." Said Clover, who was about to walk away to help the Ace Ops get up.
"Oh sure, walk away. But we both know that I've already won this fight, I have trained myself over the years to build up the bad luck and I use that to get the upper hand on my enemies. And guess what, I have been charging up my bad luck for the past hour!" Yelled Qrow, Clover turned around and a look of horror crept onto his face as he saw a red glow coming from Qrow's eyes.
It was then that a wave of energy released from Qrow, which hit Clover and caused the rope on his fishing line to start unravelling at a rapid speed. Clover tried to put the rope back to make sure that his weapon didn't break. But unfortunately the rope continued unravel itself from the weapon, and all the struggling that Clover did to keep his weapon from breaking only led to him getting entangled in the rope of his weapon until he was completely tied up by his own rope and was unable to move.
The cuffs Qrow was wearing came off, and he stood up, grabbed his weapon from the ground and looked Clover in the eye. Clover then asked "How? How did you do that, even with those cuffs on?"
Qrow replied "Simple, I let a small bit of my bad luck seep out when you put those cuffs on to ensure that they wouldn't work." Qrow then walked over to Winter, and used his blade to cut her free from the ropes.
Qrow was then approached by Ozpin, Professor Goodwitch and Tai who was struggling to walk due to his broken arm. Ozpin then said "I think that's all of them, Glynda if you will."
Professor Goodwitch gave a simple nod, and used her semblance to encase the Ace ops in several stone prisons that would ensure that none of them would be able to get out. Unless they were allowed to get out of their stone prisons by Professor Goodwitch.
"I guess that's all of them, now miss Schnee could I ask you to please watch over your colleagues?" Asked Professor Ozpin.
"I won't let them out of my sight... sir." Replied Winter.
"Great, then we should be able to get into the tower." Said Ozpin, who was about to walk towards the entrance of the tower with the group, when they were stopped by the sound of Qrow's scroll going off.
Qrow looked at his scroll and saw that he was being called by Yang. Seeing this he quickly picked up, put the scroll on speaker and yelled "YANG! What happened! Where are you girls!"
But instead of Yang, it was Ruby who replied through the scroll "Uncle Qrow! Where is general Ironwood!"
"He is in the Beacon tower, we're on our way to take him out... But that doesn't matter right now, Ruby where are you?" Asked Qrow.
"We were captured by some weird doctor, called Doctor Merlot. But we were able to escape, but listen whatever you do don't knock out General Ironwood!" Yelled Ruby on the other end of the scroll.
"And why should we not knock him out Miss Rose?" Asked Ozpin.
"There is a device in his neck that is controlling him right now, but the problem is if you knock him out it or cause his heart rate to decrease it will cause the device to blow up. Similar to what I saw happen a couple of weeks ago!" Ruby yelled on the other end of the scroll.
"How do you know about this?" Asked Professor Goodwitch.
"I was able to get into his computer, and there I found what he had done. You should be able to remove it through a still visible scar on the back of his neck." Replied Ruby.
"Ruby, are you and the others ok?" Asked Tai.
There was no response on the other end, so Qrow looked at his scroll and saw that the connection had been cut. "That's weird." He mumbled, as thee sky above them turned back to it's normal blue colour.
"Doesn't matter, what matters is that we stop Ironwood and fix this. Maybe then will we be able to help Miss Rose and the others." Said Ozpin, as he was about to make his way to the entrance of the tower.
"Wait." Said a voice, the group turned around and saw that Clover had spoken up "I heard what was said by that girl, I want to help."
"Right, you suddenly changed your mind after hearing that. I don't think so buddy, you're staying right where you are." Replied Qrow, after which the group of four made their way into the tower and when they saw that there weren't any soldiers in the main hall they went towards the elevator.
When they were inside off the elevator, Ozpin pressed the button that would take the group to the right floor. While the elevator was going to the right floor, Qrow turned to Tai and asked "Did you break your arm?"
"A little bit, but I don't think it's too bad." Said Tai, who then slightly winced as he felt his broken arm act up again.
"Maybe stay back a little, I remember how things used to be back in our Beacon days." Replied Qrow.
"Don't worry, just like you I have also been able to train my semblance. I won't just fall to the ground the moment I get injured anymore." Said Tai.
"That's good." Said Qrow.
It was then that the elevator reached its destination, the doors opened and the group stepped into the main computer hub of the Beacon Tower and saw that Ironwood was busy sending coordinates to the robots all over Remnant.
Seeing that Ironwood wasn't paying any attention to them Ozpin whispered "How do you want to do this?"
"I use my weapon to cut open his neck, and then pull the device out of his neck. That should solve the problem." Said Qrow.
"But that will cause him nerve damage." Replied Professor Goodwitch.
"Last time I checked, Atlas had the technology to replace the body parts he had lost. I'm sure Atlas can fix a bit of nerve damage, or would you rather have his head explode?" Asked Qrow.
"Off course not, I just think that its an idea that could easily go wrong." Replied Professor Goodwitch.
"I can hear all of you." They then heard Ironwood say, after which they had to dodge out of the way of a gun shot being fired into their direction.
Tai and Qrow fled to the left of the room, while Ozpin and Glynda hid on the right of the room all the while Ironwood stood in the centre of the room and said "Such a shame that the Ace Ops couldn't do what I told them to do, but it's like they always said. If you want something done, you've got to do it yourself." After which he fired another shot near Professor Ozpin, but luckily Ironwood had missed his shot.
From within his hiding place Qrow locked eyes with Professor Goodwitch, who pointed at his weapon while also pointing at her weapon. Which indicated that she wanted use her semblance to keep Ironwood in place, while Qrow used his weapon to remove the device from Ironwood's neck. Goodwitch then grabbed Ozpin's attention, and signalled towards Ironwood. Ensuring that Ozpin knew what the plan was, and that he would keep Ironwood busy.
Ozpin then stepped out of his hiding place, and held his hands in the air. "Finally getting smart Oz?" Asked Ironwood.
"James, why are you doing this?" Asked Ozpin, while feigning ignorance.
"You know why Oz, I'm doing what needs to be done. Doing what you are unwilling to do." Replied the general.
"Is that how you feel, or are you doing his will?" Asked Ozpin.
"NO! I'm doing what needs to be done, I'm doing what you can't do!" Yelled General Ironwood, as Professor Goodwitch was sneaking up behind him.
"Maybe, but what you are doing is wrong." Replied Ozpin, after which Glynda used her semblance to hold Ironwood in place ensuring that he wouldn't be able to get away. But it lead to Ironwood struggling to free himself from the grip of Professor Goodwitch, but it was to no avail as Qrow was able to get close to him and then used his weapon to cut open the scar. Which opened the wound and revealed the device that was controlling Ironwood.
Qrow used his weapon in its scythe form to cut the device loose, and did so very carefully to ensure that there wouldn't be any nerve damage done to the general. However, when he got halfway through removing the device started flashing red and a timer appeared on one of the computer screens which began to count down with only thirty seconds left on the timer.
Seeing this Qrow began to increase his speed, trying very hard to concentrate on removing the device while also ensuring that his semblance wouldn't act up. As while he did have better control over it than twenty years ago, in a stressful situation it could still lead to his semblance causing havoc. After several stressful seconds, Qrow was able to remove the device and took it out of Ironwood's body. But then the red light on the device began to blink faster than it did before.
Seeing this, and knowing what could happen if the device where to blow up near them. Qrow quickly rushed over to one of the corners of the room, and threw the device onto the ground. He then ran back to the group, while the device exploded creating a large hole in the wall. Seeing that none of them were harmed, Qrow let out a sigh of relief but then got smacked on the head by Professor Goodwitch who had put Ironwood onto the ground. But unfortunately, the general was unconscious.
"Hey, what was that for? I just saved all of us!" Exclaimed Qrow in annoyance.
"I would have preferred it if you didn't cause that much damage to Beacon tower." Replied Professor Goodwitch.
There was a moment of silence after that, but then everyones attention was caught by laughter coming from one of the computers. The group turned to the source of the noise, and saw that Doctor Merlot's image was displayed on the screen.
"You! How are you still alive after all this time?" Asked Tai.
"Yeah, Raven said that she left you to do die!" Added Qrow.
Merlot let out a chuckle and replied "Oh foolish children, no is ever truly gone. And like a weed that grows back stronger after having been pulled out of the ground, I too come back over and over again. And this time I'll be sure to finish what I started. You hear that Ozpin! I'll be able to do what you were unable to, unite humanity under a single cause!"
"Unfortunately it seems that you have failed, Ironwood is no longer under your control." Replied Ozpin.
Merlot laughed and replied "You may have gotten him out of my control, but my robots are still on the lose and you'll never stop them. I win!"
It was then that Qrow walked over to the main computer of the Beacon Tower, and removed the USB stick from the computer after which he smashed it on the ground. Breaking it to pieces, and causing a prompt to show up on the screen that asked "Would you like to cancel operations and start the termination protocol?"
Qrow then looked over at the rest, who gave him a simple nod so he turned back to the computer and pressed the confirm button. Causing the following prompt to appear on the screen "Shutting down operations, starting termination protocol, thank you for choosing Merlot Industries as your provider." After which the screen turned off, leaving the group to look at doctor Merlot as pure anger flashed on his face.
"Give it up Merlot, your plan has failed." Said Qrow.
"You think I'm done, you think I'm finished after that! That was nothing but a minor set back, you might have caused the robots in Vale to stop! But that doesn't mean that they stop anywhere else. Atlas, Vacuo, Mistral all will FALL! You haven't seen the last of me! Oh I can guarantee you that, I'll make a new plan. A much better plan, one that can't be stopped! But first, I'll make sure that those kids never leave this place alive!" Yelled Doctor Merlot, after which the screen turned off.
This left the group alone in silence, until Glynda spoke up "What are we going to do?"
"We take back control of Beacon, then we take those two to the infirmary." Said Ozpin, as he referred to Ironwood and Tai's broken arm, he then added "After that we'll decide on what to do."
Glynda gave a nod of approval to that idea, and so she and Qrow helped carry Ironwood to the elevator. After which the group went down the elevator so they could go to the infirmary and help put an end to the chaos at Beacon.
In vale
Agent Stern and Agent Krantz had been driving through Vale in the armoured police truck, using the canon on the top of the truck to shoot down any flying robot that they came across. But they weren't the only ones doing so, the other members of the Vale PD had been taking out as many robots but unfortunately there were still a lot of robots that were spread throughout the city. Ones that were attacking civilians and were causing a lot of destruction throughout the city.
The two agents had just used the armoured truck to take out a group of robots that were skating around using white glyphs with a snowflake symbol on them, while also attacking civilians when they saw that the robots near them were beginning to fall out of the sky.
They climbed out of the truck with confused looks on their faces, and upon seeing what was happening Agent Stern remarked "That's odd, why would those robots be falling out of the sky?"
"Maybe the people at Beacon succeeded at taking out the thing controlling the robots." Replied Agent Krantz.
"Could be, hold on one second I'm going to check on something. Don't let your guard down." Said Agent Stern, as he went back into the armoured truck, turned on the radio and said "Everyone, come in. Tell me what is happening on your ends!" There was a bit of silence on the other end, but then after a few seconds Agent Stern was able to get several responses.
"...Sir, the robots are dropping out of the sky..."
"...Robots are deactivating..."
"...Coast is clear, currently applying medical aid to those that need it..."
"...Sir applying medical attention to Faunus that were hurt by Emerald Spears..."
"...Targets are neutralised..."
Agent Stern continued to listen to the responses the were coming over the radio making him feel relieved that the situation had been solved, but then his attention was caught when one of the cops in one of the armoured police trucks replied with "Sir, Emerald Spears have been seen fleeing the scene after the robots started dropping out of the sky!"
"What! Officer, where did you see them and where are they going!" Yelled Agent Stern as he grabbed onto the radio.
"...They seem to be going to a place near the warehousing district of Vale, what do you want us to do?..." Asked the officer.
"Follow them, let them bring you to their base of operations. Is that clear?" Asked Agent Stern.
"...All clear sir, following the suspects at this moment..." Replied the officer, after which the radio connection was cut off.
"Good." Said Agent Stern, who then dialled the radio to reach the rest of the Vale PD and said "All available officers to the warehouse district, we are arresting the Emerald Spears!" To which he heard replies on the other end of the radio, confirming his orders. Stern exited the armoured truck and said "Roslyn, get in. We're going after the Emerald Spears."
Agent Krantz nodded, and entered the truck. After which the truck drove off, making its way towards the warehousing district of Vale. After driving through several damaged streets and using the tires to crush the remains of some of the robots, the armoured truck arrived at its destination. Once there, the two agents exited the armoured truck and met up with their colleagues. One of whom gave Stern a megaphone, and then stepped away to give Stern the space he needed.
Stern then spoke through the megaphone and said "Emerald Spears, this is the Vale PD. Come out of the building with your hands in the air, we have the entire building surrounded!"
It was then that one of the windows opened, which revealed Theo Payne who had his own megaphone and who replied "We have done nothing wrong, everything we did was for the sake of saving humanity from the robotic plague. We will not let you take us in!"
"Even if that is the case, we can still arrest you on destruction of property, attempted murder, assault, terrorism, illegal possession of multiple firearms and possible treason. So one last warning, come out with your hands in the air or we'll come in ourselves!" Yelled Stern trough the megaphone.
It was then that all the windows to the safe house opened, and the Vale PD came face to face with dozens of firearms aimed directly at them. Seeing what was about to happen, Stern yelled "Everyone behind the armoured trucks!" And before any of the members of the Emerald Spears were able to take a shot at them, the Vale PD was able to duck for cover and get behind the armoured trucks.
It was at that moment that a blaze of gunfire started coming from the windows of the safe house, causing bullets to fly everywhere and making it so that the Vale PD had to make no movement whatsoever to avoid getting hit by the bullets.
While that was happening, Agent Stern was thinking of an idea to get out of the situation but then he was hit with an idea after which he said "Does anyone have anything that could help us turn the tide against these people?"
"Sir..." replied one of the cops "...we have enough smoke bombs, tear gas bombs and flash bangs to maybe have a chance at creating an opening to arrest them!"
"That might work, and we even have a battering ram to break the doors in." Replied Stern "Anyone who has launchers that can be used to launch smoke bombs, tear gas bombs and flash bangs I give you permission on my signal to use them."
He then turned to Agent Krantz who nodded at the idea and he then turned to the rest of the group and said "Once the signal is given we use the battering ram to get inside the building. Then we arrest everyone there, is that clear?"
The police force nodded in agreement, and got the launchers ready, seeing this Stern yelled "On three, one, two, three go!" Upon hearing the signal the police force began to fire the smoke bombs, tear gas bombs and flash bangs into the buildings opened windows. With the explosives exploding it caused the shooting from the Emerald Spears to stop, giving the police force the opening to get through, break the doors in and enter the building.
Once the group made it inside, Stern gave them the signal to rush into the rooms and arrest the members on the spot. And seeing as the members of the Emerald Spears vision had become worse due to the smoke, tear gas in the air or the bright light of the flash bangs arresting them became really easy, and soon after that all of them were brought into the main room of the safe house.
With the Emerald Spears now in custody Stern began to count the numbers to ensure that everyone was present. But while counting he noticed that a few members were missing, and he already knew who those members were. He turned to one of the members and asked "Where are Greenleaf, Miller and the Payne brothers?"
"I don't know." Replied the Emerald Spears member, while blinking his eyes rapidly to get rid of the irritation caused by the tear gas. "Maybe in the basement.
Stern to Roslyn and said "We should check out the basement." To which she nodded and quickly made her way to the door that lead to the basement. Stern then turned to the other officers and said "Stay with them while we check out the basement, and have someone call the station to get an arrest van for all these people."
The officers, who were ensuring that none of the Emerald Spears would leave, gave Stern a nod of agreement. Stern then left the room and followed his partner down the stairwell, and while making their way downstairs they both grabbed their guns. Once they got downstairs they were met with a long hallway with a lot of doors leading to a lot of different rooms.
The two began to make their way through the hallway very carefully, making sure that they wouldn't let their guards down for a single second. They made sure to look in each of the rooms anytime they passed one of the doors. That was until they reached the fourth set of doors, and saw something or rather they saw someone laying on the floor.
Agent Krantz decided to take a look at what seemed to be a body, while giving a signal to Stern to keep moving forward. Agent Stern nodded in agreement and continued to move through the hallway, while Roslyn stayed behind. He kept moving through the dark hallway and each time he checked one of the rooms he found nothing, that was until he reached the last room of the hallway.
There he saw a figure moving around the room very quickly, with what seemed to be a large bag and while Stern saw the figure moving around the room. The figure did not see Stern, which allowed him to sneak into the room and get behind the figure. Stern then points his gun at the figure and says "Turn around with your hands in the air!"
The figure listened, and turned around to face Stern which revealed Theo Payne standing in front of him. "Officer Stern." Was all that Theo said.
"Well, well, well Theo Payne. Thought you could get away from me by leaving Atlas, and hiding out in Vale did ya? Well guess, you're wrong. Now turn around, we've already arrested the rest of your little group. There is no way that we're letting you guys get away this time." Said Stern, as he placed the handcuffs on Theo. He was about to walk Theo out of the room when something heavy hit his hand and then that same heavy object hit his left leg.
The pain from that strikes caused him to fall to the ground, he then looked up and saw that Simone Miller was standing in front of him and had his gun pointed at him, while holding a massive wrench in her left hand which she had used to knock. "So it seems that you survived, I knew we should have checked to see if you were truly dead. Time to rectify that." Said Simone in an angry tone, as she loaded his gun.
"What, you're gonna shoot me. Go ahead! You do that, neither you nor him will make out of here alive. And even if you do, you will be hunted down for the rest of your lives!" Yelled Stern.
"I'm willing to take those, now stand up I want to look you in the eyes as I pull the trigger. You've been a thorn in our side the moment we formed the Emerald Spears." Said Simone, as she started to cackle loudly "You know what's funny, we know that you're not the biggest fan of technology. You've opposed that blue robot multiple occasions, you could have joined us. But no, you just had to stand against us at every turn."
"You're right, I'm distrustful of technology. But even I can see that they can do some good, even I can see the benefits of technology. And sure, in a different life I could have joined you. But I'm not that delusional that I'll attack innocent people just to get my ideals across." Replied Stern.
Simone chuckled and replied "Not bad when it comes to last words, time to die." She was about to fire the gun at Stern, when she was stopped by Roslyn rushing into the room, she turned around and said "Well well well, look who it is."
"Simone, it's been a while." Replied Roslyn with sarcasm in her voice.
"You two know each other?" Asked Stern, as he clutched his still hurting leg.
"You could say that, why don't you tell him what you did to me!" Yelled Simone.
"What, you mean when I had told our superiors about how you had stolen those test answers. You're still mad about that, I just did the right thing. While you tried to take the easy way out." Replied Roslyn.
"Maybe, but you ruined my life!" Yelled Simone, as she pointed her gun at Roslyn and continued "I was kicked out of the police academy because of you, I had to join the Atlas military because I was out of options. I lost my job due to those damned robots, all because you couldn't look the other way! YOU RUINED MY LIFE!"
"No, you did that to yourself the moment you joined a terrorist organisation. And you know what the worst part of this is? I looked for you Simone, you seemed to have dropped off the face of the Remnant. I was worried about what had happened to you, our classmates were worried about what had happened to you. You know why I looked for you, because I genuinely believed that there was good in you. And I still do, so please stop this nonsense before more people get hurt." Pleaded Roslyn, trying to convince Simone to put the gun down.
"I could do that, but I think I'd rather shoot you and your partner. I'll be rid of the one who ruined my life, and I'll be rid of the one who has been opposing us since the very beginning. And there is nothing you can say that will convince me to do otherwise." Said Simone.
"Good thing that I wasn't trying to convince you, just trying to keep you distracted for long enough." Replied Roslyn.
"Wait, what?" Asked Simone, who was then kicked to the ground by Stern performing a sweeping kick on her legs. Which caused her to fall forward onto her stomach, allowing Roslyn to pin her down by placing her knee on Simone's back. Ensuring that Simone wouldn't be able to move, and while that was happening Roslyn put Simone into handcuffs.
Roslyn pulled Simone up from the ground and said "Simone Miller, I'm arresting you on the grounds of destruction of property, terrorism, attempted murder and so much more. You have the right to remain silent, anything you say will be held against you in a court of law." After that she began to take Simone out of the room, leaving Stern to take the handcuffed Theo with him.
Stern began to take Theo with him out of the basement and asked "We managed to arrest everyone, except for your brother and the leader of the group. I can assume that Harvey might be in hiding, but I'm sure that you know where your brother is."
"I'm not telling anything, and even if I did know where he was I still wouldn't tell you." Replied Theo.
"Fine by me, we'll find out eventually." Replied Stern, as he began to take Theo out of the basement and the two made their way out of the safe house and to the arresting van. Ready to take the Emerald Spears into custody and bring them to the police station.
20 years earlier
Back in the past a much younger looking version of Ozpin was in his office listening to his recently hired combat instructor, and the person he could see enough potential in to one day replace him in case he would die at some point in the future, giving him a detailed account of what Team STRQ had been through on the mission he had send them on.
"...After that Miss Branwen told me that Miss Rose used beams of silver light to take out those mutated Grimm, and then Miss Branwen made sure that Merlot wouldn't make it out of there and blew up his base of operations." Said the younger Glynda Goodwitch, who looked a lot younger.
She had long blond hair similar in colour to a blond brawler who she would meet in the future, didn't have any glasses and was wearing black pants, a white blouse that exposed her forearms but nothing else, and a black vest that covered the blouse. She also had a green jewel hanging around her neck.
"Hmm, very interesting Glynda. Is there anything else that they told you?" Asked the younger Professor Ozpin, who wore an outfit that was completely green, with a green jacket, green pants, but with a black bow tie and a white blouse underneath.
"It would seem that Professor Fall perished during the mission." Replied Glynda, with a saddened look on her face.
"Of what exactly?" Asked Ozpin.
Glynda looked at her scroll and replied "The coroners report states that he bled out due to the multiple stab wounds he received while trying to protect his students from the mutated Grimm. He told Qr- I mean he told Mr Branwen that he had a two year old daughter, a Cinder Fall, and asked him to tell you."
"That is unfortunate, but nothing we can do about." Replied Ozpin, without much emotion in his voice.
Glynda noticed this and replied "But Sir, how can you care so little about that? He was our colleague, you trusted him enough to send him on that mission. How can..."
The younger Glynda was stopped by Ozpin raising up his hand and saying to her "Glynda, these things happen sometimes. When you've lived as long as I have you'll realise that sometimes these sorts of things happen and that there is nothing that can be done about that. Understand?"
"Yes... sir." Replied Glynda with uncertainty in her voice.
"Good, now if you could please check on team STRQ I have a call to make. I'll be with them shortly." Said Ozpin.
"Off course, sir." Replied Professor Goodwitch, after which she went in the elevator and took it to a lower floor of the tower. Leaving Ozpin all along in the tower, who then grabbed his scroll and dialled a number.
After a while he was able to reach the person he was trying to reach on the other end and said "Hello, is this child protective services in Vale?"
"..."
"Yes this is Headmaster Ozpin of Beacon academy speaking."
"..."
"I'm calling due to the passing away of one of my employees, see he had a daughter and from what I've heard he has no other family that can take care of her."
"..."
"There is a place for her in one of the orphanages you say, ah excellent."
"..."
"The address, right I have it written down here somewhere." Said Ozpin to the caller on the other end, after which he grabbed a piece of paper on which thee address was written and so he said "The address is Drury Lane 221B, downtown Vale."
"..."
"You got the address and you'll be sending someone, thank you very much sir. I'm sure you'll be able to handle it, I mean how much trouble can one child cause?" Said Ozpin, after which he ended the call.
Ozpin then made his way to the elevator and said "Time to have a talk with Team STRQ."
Meanwhile at the Beacon Infirmary
At the Beacon infirmary Team STRQ were healing and resting from their mission, and things would have been calm if Thomas hadn't told them he was leaving.
"Wait, you're leaving already? Can't you just stick around a bit longer?" Asked Summer, who then grabbed her head in pain due to the massive headache she was having.
"Sorry guys, as much fun as it was seeing you guys after all this time I have to get back the robotics university in Atlas. I kind of made someone angry by rejecting an idea he had for robotics in front of the entire school board, and I hope I'll still be in time to make sure won't get angrier." Said Thomas.
"That's unfortunate, though we haven't heard from you in two years. So it's not like this will be any different." Said an annoyed Raven.
Thomas noticed the annoyance and said "Look, I'm sorry that I haven't contacted you guys in two years. But I was busy, I have been spending so much time on building robots and getting better at building them that I lost track of time. And at that moment I just stopped thinking about it."
"It's fine, just promise us that you'll write us more often." Said Qrow.
"I will, that's a promise." Replied Thomas.
"So, any ideas on what you're going to do once you finish with the robotics course?" Asked Summer.
"I do, especially with what just happened, I want to help change the world for the better. Create robots that can be used for construction, or to explore dangerous places or create robots that could replace humans in the military." Said Thomas.
"Sounds ambitious, how do you know you'll succeed?" Asked Tai, who then winced as the nurse placed stitches in his arm.
"I don't know yet, I might have to find someone who could support me. I've heard rumours about some hotshot captain in the Atlas military gaining an interest in robots. I mean, I already build a robot that serves as a lab assistant to me who I could show off to this captain as a prototype for new robots in the Atlas Military." Said Thomas, who then looked at his watch and added "The airship taking me to Atlas is here, so I'll be taking my leave."
So Thomas went around the room and gave Tai and Qrow a fist bump, gave Summer a hug and when he got to Raven he was going to shake her hand but was surprised when she gave him a quick hug instead. After letting him go, Raven was given a confused look by all four people in the room. To which she said "Just be safe, ok?"
"Don't worry, I will." Replied Thomas, who then walked to the door to leave and bumped into Ozpin who was just entering the room.
"Ah, Mr Light good that I can still see you. Have a good flight back to Atlas and try to stay safe." Said Ozpin.
"Don't worry headmaster, I will." Said Thomas, who then left the room and made his way to the airship that was waiting for him on the Beacon airstrip.
With Thomas gone, Ozpin turned to Team STRQ and then his attention was caught by the medical results of the team. He grabbed the results, looked over them and then said "So, Team STRQ that was quite a mission you four went on. Let's see, Summer a severe headache, Raven several bruises, Qrow several scratches and Tai. Says here you've been in this infirmary quite a lot of times over the course of the last four years. A lot of broken bones, and it seems that the nurse even wrote that if you keep breaking your bones you might lose the functionality of your legs and arms. She even estimates that one or two more times of this and it might just happen."
"Get to the point Ozpin, I told them what Merlot told me." Said Raven, with a distrustful look on her face.
"Very well then." Said Ozpin, whose eyes then flashed green. Then a green energy began to cover Team STRQ, and after it disappeared their wounds also disappeared.
"What did you do to us!" Yelled Qrow, who was about to charge at Ozpin only to be stopped by Ozpin holding out his cane to stop him.
"I used my magic to heal you four, even made it so that Tai's bones are healed to the point that he won't worry about becoming unable to use his arms or legs the next time you break them. But you should still be careful." Said Ozpin who then walked over to a nearby window and started looking out of it. He then added "I know you four have a lot of questions for me, and I will answer all of them. You four deserve that much, but before I begin a question. What is your favourite fairy tale?"
In the present
Back in the present time the small group that was at the smash mansion were fighting against robots that were sent their way and were attacking the mansion. But luckily they were able to fight back as all of them had the right equipment to deal with the incoming threat. As right now Snake had used one of his boxes to fool a small group of robots to go and check in the box, which gave him an opening to use his rocket launcher on the robots and blew the small group to pieces.
The duck hunt duo was able to deliver several strikes to a couple of robots, that were then blasted to pieces by 8-bit gun men that they summoned out of thin air, while Olimar was throwing his Pikmin at the robots who would then start to deliver several strikes to the robots. After a while the Pikmin caused the robots to fall to the ground in several pieces.
Shulk had the easiest time with dealing with the robots, using his future sight to predict where the robots would attack next he would use his Monado art to increase his speed to get to the robots much faster and then used the Monado arts again to increase his strength. This allowed him to instantly destroy the robots and use the energy blade of the Monado to shred the robots to pieces.
And the group was successful, until suddenly they were getting pushed closer and closer to each other by the advancing robots. And due to the robots shooting out fire blasts, ice beams, thunder blasts and were able to dodge any counter attacks by creating shadows clones the group was unable to attack back. Seeing this happening Snake looked at Olimar, Shulk and the duck hunt duo all of whom were scared of the advancing robots and thought "Guess this is it, sorry kid. I won't be able to make due on that promise I made."
The group watched as the small army of robots came closer, but then they suddenly stopped moving. As if the thing that was controlling them had been deactivated and the robots didn't know what to do next, so they were just standing in place doing nothing.
Snake was about to approach the robots, as he didn't understand what was happening, and to see what they would do. But when he started moving, a bright blinding light was seen in the sky and "Sacred Arrow!" was yelled. After which a large amount of light arrows were fired onto the robots, when that happened "Burning Sword!" was yelled and a sword made out of fire was used on the ground to destroy the remaining robots in the area creating a massive dust cloud.
When the dust settled the group looked towards the general direction from which the attacks were coming from, what they saw was three people. A boy wearing blue clothing with some pieces of gold armour, on his left stood a girl with short red hair, red clothes, red armour pieces, a red scarf with gold parts on it and was wielding a red sword. On the right of the boy stood a girl with long blond hair, a white outfit with some green parts in it and was holding onto a white sword.
"Uh... Rex? Pyra? Mythra? What are you three doin' here?" Asked Shulk in confusion.
"We were stuck in the void, then it opened and now we are here." Replied Rex.
"But why did you three end up here?" Asked Snake, while behind him Olimar was giving his Pikmin orders to carry the robot parts into the flying onions.
"I dunno, maybe one of us was invited to the tournament before everything went down." Replied Pyra.
"Maybe Rex got invited, after all we are his sword." Added Mytrha.
"Could be, I checked the offices and there were still four unsent invitations. So who knows, maybe one of you did get invited. We could go and check right now" Said Snake, who turned around to go and enter the mansion and then noticed what Olimar had been doing and saw that there now were a lot of Pikmin sprouted into the ground. "Olimar, what are you doing?"
"Cleaning up the mess." Replied Olimar.
"Why, we could have easily used those parts to find out where the robots came from or use them for spare parts." Said Snake.
"I didn't know, but there are still a few that are on the ground that you could use." Replied Olimar with a sheepish look on his face, to which the duck hunt dog let out some laughter.
Snake sighed and replied "It's fine, come on let's go inside. It would seem that the robots have stopped attacking, so now we can go and find out which one of you three got invited." After which Snake walked into the mansion, getting followed by Olimar, the duck hunt duo, Pyra and Mythra.
Shulk and Rex walked after them, but kept a bit of distance between them and the group. Shulk turned to Rex, patted him on the back and said "It's good to see you again."
"Yeah, it's good to see you again as well." Replied Rex, as the two then followed the group into the mansion.
At Merlot's base
The group had been running through the base for a while now, all the while they felt the base shake due to the device opening a rift in the sky and it was being used at full power. But after making it up several staircases in order to get to ground level the shaking stopped. Catching the group off-guard and prompting Knuckles to say "That's weird, it just stopped out of nowhere."
"Maybe the device being used at 100% capacity caused it to get destroyed." Said Ness.
Sonic closed his eyes for a bit to think, but then a realisation hit him and he said "We need to go to the lab now, I have a bad feeling about this."
"Yeah, so do I and I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if something bad had happened to Ruby." Replied Yang.
"Then we should go there now." Said Agent 3, to which the rest of the group nodded in agreement.
The group continued on, and after a while they found the lab of Doctor Merlot and to their horror no one was there. But what they did see was some blood on the ground, as well as some black substance on the ground.
"It seems that there was a struggle here." Noted Blake.
"Maybe Merlot tried to escape, and Ruby went after him. Maybe in the struggle she got slightly injured." Said Weiss, hoping that nothing had happened to her team leader.
Jaune then knelt onto the floor to look at the black substance on the floor, scraped some of it on his finger, smelled it and then said "Hey guys, any idea what this could be?"
Roman took a look at the black goo and said "Nothing I've ever seen, but it smells horrible. Like the engine of a car."
"Let me have a look at that." Said Ness as he smelled the substance, and then added "That's oil."
"What is oil?" Asked Pyrrha.
"A fuel source, do you guys not have that in this world?" Asked Sonic.
"No, everything runs on dust." Replied Jaune.
"Actually, a couple of years ago Atlas discovered some of that oil in the frozen tundra. But then they found out that it is terrible for the environment." Said Weiss.
"How do you know that?" Asked Blake.
"I heard father talk about it, said that he would be very interested in the substance if the world were to run out of dust." Replied Weiss.
"You know, there is one thing I have been wondering about. That kid was healing all of us and got really tired after a while, and I heard you guys talk about running out of aura. What happens when you guys run out of aura?" Asked Sonic.
"People who run out of aura die, without it they wouldn't survive. Aura is the manifestation of ones soul, without aura a person wouldn't have a soul and wouldn't be alive anymore." Replied Pyrrha.
"Jeez, that's just dark." Said Lucas.
After that was said there was a bit of silence, that was until Yang spoke up "So, Merlot isn't here and neither is Ruby, other than the way Roman's sidekick got in there is no way out of here. Where could they have gone?"
"Wait a minute, Neo where did you park the stolen airship?" Asked Roman.
"Near the front door of the base, why do you ask?" Signed Neo.
"He's trying to make a run for it, we have to stop him." Said Roman.
"So we're all in agreement then?" Asked Weiss, to which the rest of the group nodded. After which the group ran out of the lab and began to make their way to the front of the base, all of them following Neo as she knew which they had to go. They passed several empty hallways, and some people in the group that it seemed a bit too easy.
They were able to make it through most of the base, that was until they reached another doorway that seemed to be close to the entrance of the base. But then they were stopped by a small platoon of robots with red glowing eyes.
"I knew this was too easy." Thought multiple people.
Amy turned to Sonic and asked "Should we warn Tails."
"I'm sure he'll be fine." Replied Sonic.
With Tails
In the meantime the two tailed fox was hard at work trying to fix Rock to the point that he would be able to move again. He gotten quite far already and asked Rock "Can you move you left arm for me?" Rock complied and was able to move his left arm, which made Tails say "That's great, I'll have you moving in no time."
"Thank you Tails, I'm glad that you were able to fix me." Said Rock, without having any trouble speaking.
"And you can speak again, that's great." Replied Tails, as he continued working on Rock. While not hearing the sounds of something crashing through the floor nearby.
Back with the others
"Yeah, he'll be completely fine. So don't worry." Said Knuckles.
"Instead we should focus on taking out these things." Said Agent 3 as she loaded up her Splattershot and got ready to shoot the ink inside of it at the robots.
"Lets do this." Said Yang, as she loaded up her gauntlets, while Weiss and Blake got their weapons ready and everyone got into fighting positions. Yang then launched herself at several robots with her gauntlets and delivered a flurry of punches to them. She was able to destroy a few of them, as some of the other robots used Blake's semblance to create a shadow clone of themselves in order for them to get out of the way.
However doing this caused the robots to get into the path of the others fighting against them, allowing Blake to use Gambol Shroud in it blade form as well as the sheath her blade was in to destroy the robots. Weiss used Myrtenaster to summon several white glyphs and used them to shoot icicles through the robots. Knuckles and Amy tag teamed the robots that got into their path by having Amy hit the robots with her hammer. This hit them into the direction of Knuckles who was able to punch through the robots with his metal punching claws.
Ness and Lucas were using their PK powers in the best way that they could, spamming the absolute heck out of them. Shooting out rapid blasts of PK Blast and PK Freeze at the robots, causing some of them to get destroyed and others to get encased in ice. Which gave Sonic the chance to punch the robots to pieces while using his super speed. Pyrrha in the meantime was having a three on one fight against a small group of robots that were able to dodge her counterattacks by turning into rose petals.
Seeing this happen Pyrrha used her polarity to push the robots out of the way when they turned from rose petals to their robotic forms. Doing so allowed her to get a got view of her target and while holding them in place she was going to use her spear to destroy the robots. Only for her to be distracted when a robot with a hammer on its right hand walked up behind her and was about to use the hammer to strike her down.
Thankfully Jaune had seen this and rushed in, blocking the attack with his shield and making the right movements that allowed him to chop the head off the robot with the hammer for a hand. Pyrrha, with a look of pride on her face, used her polarity to throw her spear through the three robots she was holding in place. Causing them to fall to the ground, completely destroyed.
Agent 3 used her splattershot to shoot ink at the robots, causing them to fall to the ground in a stunned manner. This gave her a chance to reload by turning into her squid form, going into a puddle of ink she had created and recharging. After having recharged she was able to throw several splat bombs at them, the resulting explosion caused the destruction of several robots.
But then a group of several robots with ink tanks on their backs rushed towards her, and were about to fire their ink at her. Only for Neo to jump in between them, tank the shots, after which she fell into several glass shards and in the confusion she jumped at them and used the blade of her umbrella to slash two of them to pieces. While Roman used his cane to fire blasts at the remaining robots. Blasting them into several pieces, and making the ink fall to the ground which Agent 3 used to recharged herself.
At moment a line of robots, which had arm canons aimed at the group, stood in front of them and were charging up their attacks. Sonic and Amy looked at each other, and nodded in agreement. Sonic went into his ball form and began to charge up a spin dash, and when he got at full charged up speed Amy used her hammer to launch Sonic at the robots at full speed. He managed to use the charged up spin dash to shred the group of robots to pieces, but there were still a few robots left.
So Amy got her hammer ready, as Sonic used his homing attack to return to Amy's hammer. After which she would launch Sonic at the robots, all of whom he would shred to pieces destroying them completely. With the all the robots destroyed the group gave a loud cheer as celebration, they turned a corner and were happy to see the exit as well as the airship Neo came in with. But that happiness was interrupted when the Armoured Mewtwo teleported into the room.
"None of you are leaving this place." Said the Armoured Mewtwo.
"Oh no, what do we do?" Asked Blake.
"We have an idea, but all of you are going to need to keep him busy." Said Ness.
"And what's that?" Asked Pyrrha.
"We need to charge up an attack that is so powerful that it can get him out of the armour." Said Lucas.
"How long will that take!" Exclaimed Jaune, feeling scared of the being in front of them.
"A minute, maybe two." Said Ness.
"We can that, right?" Asked Jaune.
"Yeah, leave it to us." Said Yang.
At that moment Ness and Lucas began to charge up their PK power, while the rest of the group got into a fighting position. But at that moment Mewtwo fired several balls of psychic energy at the group, making them get out of the way as fast as possible. And while doing so, Blake, Roman, Agent 3 and Weiss, using glyphs to summon icicles, fired their attacks at Mewtwo. But the attacks were blocked, and the group was held in place by Mewtwo using his psychic powers.
Yang, Knuckles, Amy and Sonic rushed at Mewtwo and were preparing to hit him with their attacks, but they were also held in place by Mewtwo. This left Jaune and Pyrrha to defend Lucas and Ness who were still charging up their attack. Pyrrha tried to use her semblance to get his armour off, but she wasn't fast enough to counter his psychic attack and was now being held up in the air by his psychic power. This left Jaune alone to defend the two, and he was feeling nervous. He knew that he wouldn't be able to do anything against that thing, it took out Pyrrha.
But despite that fear, he kept his ground. Keeping his shield up and being ready to defend the two kids at a moments notice, he saw Mewtwo approach him with his arm stretched out and pointing at Jaune. He closed his eyes, and waited for him to be taken out. But nothing happened, he opened his eyes and from behind him three blasts of energy were fired at Mewtwo. The blasts of energy were blue, yellow and red and when they hit Mewtwo it caused the being to get stunned for a second.
Mewtwo getting stunned was just what everyone needed however, as it was just enough time for Ness and Lucas to open up their eyes, get surrounded by a rainbow glow, point their fingers at Mewtwo and shout "PK STARSTORM!" At that moment Mewtwo was bombarded by a barrage of powerful blasts of energy that lasted nearly a minute. After a minute of getting bombarded by those blasts of energy, Mewtwo fell to the ground with his armour falling off and getting swirly eyes.
"And it looks like Mewtwo fainted." Joked Yang.
"But where did those blasts come from?" Asked Sonic, who then looked over and saw Tails, Rock and R.O.B. standing near them. Sonic rushed at Tails, hugged him and exclaimed "Tails, but how!"
"Simple, I finished repairing Rock. He should be able to fight until we get out of here." Replied Tails.
"And what is R.O.B. doing here, he looks more out of place than in a kart racer?" Asked Agent 3.
"He just fell out of the sky." Replied Tails, getting some odd looks from the group.
"He is right, I fell out of the sky. Now I'm here to help." Replied R.O.B.
Rock was then crushed by a massive hug from yang, Blake, Weiss, Jaune and Pyrrha and while struggling to move he said "I'm happy to be back as well." After which they let him go.
"So now what?" Asked Yang.
"i think we need to find out where the doctor and little red are, and then get out of here as fast as possible." Said Roman.
"You guys aren't going anywhere!" Yelled a voice, causing the group to turn to the source of the voice and they were shocked to see Doctor Merlot standing in front of them with a crazed look on his face.
"Oh give it up Merlot, we've taken out all of your robots and your second in command. You've got nothing!" Yelled Yang, as she loaded her gauntlets.
Merlot saw this and said "Ah, ah, ah I wouldn't do that if I were you." as he pressed a button that opened the floor. Making several Atlesian paladins rise out of the floor as well as the robot that contained that aura of Weiss's brother. Then the platform Merlot was standing on top of rose out of the floor, but then another rose out of the floor. And this shocked the group, as Ruby was tied to a chair and connected to the device that had drained their aura for the last week.
"Ruby?" Said Yang, with a look of horror creeping onto her face.
"That's right, I caught her. You guys might have ruined my plans, taken everything away that I planned towards and destroyed all of my robots. But I will make sure that none of you will leave this place alive, I will make sure of that. You even took out the one thing that could get you out of here. Now drop your weapons, or I'm draining Ruby Rose of all her aura. You two wanted to know what happened to your mother! I'll make sure that Ruby ends up meeting her mother! So drop your weapons and put your hands in the air! " Yelled Merlot.
The group looked at each other and quickly dropped their weapons onto the floor, they then put their hands in the air indicating their surrender. Seeing this Merlot let out a maddening laughter and said "Perfect." after which he pressed a button on his wrist watch which put up a force field around Merlot and Ruby, and activated the device that was attached to Ruby and began to drain all her aura.
Everyone looked on in horror as this was happening, Yang didn't however as she tried to launched herself into the air to reach the platform only for the force field to cause her to bounce off and get slammed to the ground. It was at that moment that the machine stopped draining Ruby's aura, cause it had drained all of her aura. Merlot released the restraints on Ruby and threw her to the ground. But luckily she was caught by Blake who was able to catch her in mid air and placed her onto the ground.
As her teammates were tending to her, Roman turned to Merlot and asked "Why did you do that? We all did what you said."
Merlot let out another laugh, indicating that he had gone mad, and said "Yang, still had her gauntlets on." After which he continued to laugh in a maddening laughter over his victory.
Back on the ground, while Merlot was laughing, Yang looked at her sister with tears in her eyes and said "Ruby? Ruby, please say something."
"Guys... I'm sorry... I couldn't... couldn't stop him..." Replied Ruby before going silent and the last bit of life drained from her face. As her teammates and friends look on in horror while the rest closed their eyes in respect.
While with Yang tears were streaming down her face as she exclaimed "RUBY!"
