Chapter 38: Faith Grissom

May 22, 2001

With the final push that would bring their little girl into the world, their daughter's first cries were heard, and as the nurses were doing their jobs, Grissom helped his wife lay back down before he squeezed her hand lightly and kissed her temple, complementing her while saying how much he loved her over and over.

By the time she could recover and tell him she loved him too, the nurse was back at the bed with a smile on her face. "Congratulations mommy and daddy, a happy (although she was still crying), healthy little girl."

Both of them had smiles on their faces while the nurse was lowering the baby, who was wrapped in a pink blanket, into Sara's arms, causing her heart to burst with so much love for their new addition to the family.

Sara kissed their little girl's head and whispered softly, which was when their daughter started to quiet down, and with tears in her eyes, Sara replied with emotion. "I already love her so much."

Grissom, who was also filled with emotion, cupped his wife's cheek, lifted her head up and turned it towards him before whispering. "I do too, and I love you more than words and express right now."

Her 'I love you' was against his lips as he kissed her softly, then after kissing her forehead, their attention went back to their little girl, amazed that she was finally here with them and that they created someone so perfect from their love.

Once Sara was back into her room, and was ready for visitors, Grissom kissed his girls before walking out of the room and headed for the floor's waiting area since that's where the family, who could come, was there.

He greeted his son, mom, cousin's Stephanie, Michelle and Maria, then Nick before the moms and Billy followed Grissom back to the room, and after getting there and opening the door, Billy took off running towards his mom with a smile. "Mommy."

Sara beamed at her son before speaking. "Hi baby, come meet your baby sister."

Billy stopped at the side of the bed, and smiled brightly. "She's beautiful momma."

Sara nodded with tears in her eyes. "Yes, she is."

After greeting her mothers, baby girl Grissom was passed on to Betty first, and while there was some resemblance to her son, this was no doubt in Betty's eyes that this little one will be her mother mini-me.

When Maria's turn came and went, Billy, who was sitting on the bed next to his mother, got to hold his little sister, where he vowed, like he's been doing through the months, he'll be the best brother he could be.

A few moments later, the moms walked out of the room, and not long after, Michelle, Stephanie and Nick walked in to meet the new addition, then when their time was coming to an end, Stephanie asked Billy if he wanted to come home with her and Nick, but he looked up at his dad and asked. "Can I stay here, daddy?"

Grissom nodded with a smile. "Sure, buddy."

He smiled then looked at Stephanie as he spoke softly. "If you're ok with it?"

Stephanie smiled as she walked up to him. "Of course I am, I understand. But I hope you come over soon."

Billy nodded with a smile. "I will. I love you."

Stephanie wraps her arms around him with a sigh and kiss on the head. "And I love you."

Once they release one another, Stephanie hugged Grissom while Billy hugged Michelle and Nick, then after Stephanie said goodbye to Sara, and Nick and Michelle did the same, the three of them, plus Grissom, since he was going to give the apartment keys to his mom so her, Michele and Maria, could stay at their place, left the room.

After Stephanie and Nick had dinner with her great aunt Betty, mom and sister, they made it back to their apartment, and not long after they walked in and had sat down on the couch, Nick and Stephanie started talking about the new addition to the family, then after a pause, Nick took a breath and finally brought up a subject they hardly talk about, because they wanted to give each other time, but now he felt it was.

"Steph, I think it's time we..."

But Stephanie being one step ahead of her husband, which still got her heart racing while thinking of him as that, cuts him off with a nod. "It is, it's time we try for a baby."

Nick, with tears in his eyes, cupped her cheek while speaking with emotion. "What we lost was unthinkable, but she'll never be forgotten or look as if we are replacing her. I carry her in my heart everyday, and I always will."

Stephanie nodded with tears in her eyes. "Me too, and I'll admit I'm a little scared of something happening again, but I don't want that fear to stop us from achieving a dream we've always wanted together."

Nick shook his head. "Me neither. I love you so much, Steph."

"I love you too, Nicky."

They get into a kiss, but before it turns passionate, he pulls back and whispered. "Hold that thought." Stephanie was about to speak, but he gives her a 'please' look, so she just nodded.

He smiled in return, got up from the couch, kissed her forehead before heading towards the bedroom.

A few moments later, he holds out his hand, and after Stephanie took it, he helped her up before picking her up bridle style and carrying her to the bedroom, where there was candlelight, and after placing her down, they whispered their love for another again while she led him to their bed.

While his wife, and son, who was in a cot they brought in for him, were asleep, Grissom finally got to have his one-on-one time with his daughter, which sent his heart racing while looking down at her, falling in love all over again.

He took a shallow breath before he bent down and kissed her forehead, whispering against her skin. "Daddy loves you, Faith, so much, you brought this bight, shinning light and so much love into this family that we don't know what to do with it all." He took another before he continued. "I promise that we will all protect you, let you grow and follow your dreams wherever they'll take you, I'll be your shoulder to cry and lean on, I'll try and help guide you when you're feeling lost, and most importantly, I'll love you unconditionally, no matter what."

"Make that both of us."

Grissom looked up from his daughter at the sound of his wife's soft voice and saw her looking at him with opened, but tired eyes.

He smiled warmly but spoke in a concerned tone. "Honey, you should be asleep."

She yawned then smirked. "Well, I would still be asleep if my husband was next to me, but his attention seems to be on another woman."

He smirked in return. "Well, if someone hadn't hogged the time with her all evening, I wouldn't have to resort to the middle of the night on having my one-on-one time with her."

"As you know I had to share her too, so it wasn't all evening."

Grissom looked down at his sleeping daughter and spoke softly. "Look at that little one, we're already 'fighting' for time with you." He sighed and shook his head softly. "But I mean how can we not, just look at you." When he heard her sniffle, he looked at his wife in concern again. "Sara?"

She waved it off as she wiped her tears away. "It's nothing, just watching you two. I can look at this scene and never get tired of it. I've been waiting to see it since we found out we were having a girl."

With emotion, he spoke again. "Now you know how I feel when I see you and our son, it's beautiful, you're beautiful and I can't thank you enough for the gifts you have given me, from our children to your unconditional love."

"Right back at you babe."

Grissom moves to get up from the chair he had been sitting on, which their little one stirred a little but not too much before he kissed her head one more time, lowered her down in the bassinet and whispered. "I love you little one, sleep tight."

He then moved to the big bed, slipped his shoes off after sitting down before he gets comfortable, then Sara moves so she was laying her head on his chest, and he wraps his arms around her shoulders while whispering with a teasing tone. "You happy now?"

She chuckled quietly as she moved her hand and placed it on his chest before sighing in content. "Very."

He sighed in content as well and kissed the top of her head. "Sleep tight, honey."

"You too, we are going to need it." She closed her eyes as she asked sleepily. "You ready for another round of sleepless nights?"

Without hesitation, he nodded. "Yeah, especially knowing we are sharing this together."

When he didn't hear her respond and felt her breathing had changed, indicating she had fallen back asleep, he smiled while closing his eyes, and with his wife in his arms and his children safe and asleep in the same room as them, he slowly feel asleep, feeling as content as he ever had in his life.
