Krownest:
Anakin and the others were currently going over a plan in the throne room before Ezra, Chopper and two Mandalorians entered the room. "Ezra! What's going on? Why are you here?" Sabine asked him in surprise.
Chopper warbled a reply before she looked at him. "You escaped? What's he talking about?" she asked the Padawan. "Thrawn ambushed us on Atollon. You're our only chance for help." he replied as her expression changed to shock.
"You have poor timing, kid." the ex-merc told him while folding his arms. "We're in the middle of a civil war. Clan Saxon has the Empire's backing, and our forces are stretched to their limit just to protect what ground we have." Ursa told the youngest man.
"Mother, there must be something we can do." the younger woman said. "Please. We risked everything to get here. At least hear me out." he pleaded before she looked at her godson.
"It's okay, aunty. Sabine and I will vouch for him." he told her before she turned her attention back to the Jedi and nodded.
"Here's the problem, that Interdictor cruiser." Sabine said, pointing to it after bringing up a hologram of Thrawn's fleet. "If not for Commander Sato, there would be two." Ezra said.
"With Thrawn in command, you should count your losses and consider yourself fortunate to have escaped." Fenn stated. "Like I said, without your help, they're trapped." the Padawan retorted.
"I wish we could offer it, but we just don't have the resources. We can barely take care of our own." Tristan told him. "If no is your final answer, then we'll go back alone." he replied before Chopper warbled and the two turned to leave.
"Goodbye, guys." the Jedi said to the couple while passing them. "You're not going alone." she said sternly. "At least not without us. We've got your back." her boyfriend added as their friend stopped.
"I appreciate the loyalty you have for your friends, you two, but this mission is impossible." her brother told the couple. "I never thought that I would be standing here with all of you." she began while turning to face him.
"And I bet you never thought Clan Wren would be free from the grip of Gar Saxon. But we are. One thing we know is that our friends make the impossible possible. If Ezra thinks we can make a difference, then we believe him." she finished as her boyfriend stepped up beside her.
"Couldn't have said it better myself." he agreed, giving her a smile that she returned. "My godson and his friends restored my daughter to me, and that is a debt worth repaying." the older woman began as she stood and approached them.
"We cannot leave ourselves undefended, but you may take a few ships and any warriors who are willing." she finished. "Thank you, Mother." her daughter said with a smile.
"You won't have much of an army to take down their blockade." Rau stated before the ex-merc addressed the orange droid. "Chopper, bring up the Interdictor." he ordered before the droid projected a hologram of it.
"Maybe we don't need an army." his girlfriend said as they looked at the hologram.
Atollon:
"Chopper, jam their transmissions." Ezra ordered after bringing the Gauntlet out of hyperspace. "Rau, you know what to do." Sabine told him after Chopper warbled.
"All wings, engage." he ordered the other Fang fighters before they all headed towards the Interdictor.
With Fenn and the other Fang fighters keeping the TIEs busy, Ezra piloted the Gauntlet towards the back of the Interdictor. "Chopper, patch in Hera." Anakin ordered before droid warbled and did as told.
A few seconds passed before he made contact and the Padawan spoke. "Phoenix Leader, do you read me?" he asked. "Ezra?" the Twi'lek answered, surprise in her tone.
"I brought help. We're taking out the Interdictor." he informed her before cutting off and focusing back on the Imperial ship.
Ezra flew past a few TIEs that were chasing one of the Fang fighters before trying to contact Hera again. "Hera! Hera, do you read me?" he asked before Anakin spoke.
"She'll get them out." he assured before addressing his girlfriend. "Ready, Snips?" he asked. Sabine put her helmet on before nodding and joining him in the back of the fighter.
"Get us onto that ship." he told the Jedi before equipping the red-colored Mandalorian armor he found in the fighter's storage.
The fighter's deployment rack lowered before the couple and a few other Mandalorians jumped off and floated down to the Imperial ship. "Ready your jetpacks and target those gravity well projectors." Sabine ordered as they began running along the hull of the ship.
"Hopefully this jetpack still works." her boyfriend commented. "Where did you find that anyway?" Tristan asked him. "Ezra's Gauntlet. He mentioned Maul owned it before. Probably belonged to one of his old commandos, from my dad's stories." the other man replied.
Once they were close enough, the strike team opened fire on the gravity well before a group of jumptroopers appeared from the other side and head straight towards them.
"Incoming!" Anakin warned as holstered his borrowed blaster before igniting his lightsaber and getting ready to deflect blaster fire. The others quickly returned fire before forming a circle to defend themselves.
"They've cut us off!" Tristan yelled as his future brother-in-law tossed his saber and impaled one.
Anakin watched as two troopers pursued his girlfriend before smirking as she shot one down while he blocked a blast from the other. "Anakin, we're headed for the blockade. Is the Interdictor disabled yet?" Hera asked over his helmet comm after he blocked another bolt and headed closer to the nearest well.
"Working on it!" he replied, deflecting fire from a TIE before turning around and trying to put distance between him and it. Luckily it was at that moment the Gauntlet and Fang fighters returned along Sabine and the other Mandalorians before they flew past him.
"Let's hope this thing does indeed still work." he muttered to himself before trying to activate the jetpack. The ex-merc sighed in relief when he started to fly before increasing speed to quickly catch up to his girlfriend.
As soon as he reached them, the young man sheathed his blade before taking the blaster out again and shooting the well with the others. A few seconds passed before he saw the Mandalorians lower their heads and watched as rockets flew out from middle of their jetpacks.
'I forgot they could do that.' he thought before quickly turning around as the well exploded from the combined assault of the fighters and rockets. Once they escaped the blast, Ezra piloted the Gauntlet back over to them before they grabbed onto the rack as it lowered.
"Get us outta here, Ezra!" he ordered over the comm before the rack retracted back into the ship.
Phoenix Squadron:
"I'm sorry for your losses." the hologram of Ursa told Hera as she, the couple, Zeb, Tristan and rebel stood in the common room of the Ghost. "I want to return the favor, Hera. My mother needs our help." Sabine told her.
"Go. But I can't come with you. I have to get our survivors to rebel command." she replied before the other woman cut off and the three younger adults exited the room.
"Go on without us Tristan, I need to talk to Anakin for a moment." Sabine told him. The other man gave a curious look before nodding and heading in the direction of the airlock.
Once he was gone, she pulled her boyfriend into their old room before hugging him tightly. Her lover returned it before suddenly noticing that something was off.
"Are you alright? You're trembling. What's wrong?" he asked with a concerned frown before she gently pulled away and looked up at him with unshed tears. "Something wonderful has happened... she trailed off as they stared into each others eyes.
"Ani... I'm pregnant..." she said softly before resting her head on his chest.
Anakin's eyes widened in surprise as he let her words sink in. 'Pregnant...? I'm... I'm going to be a father...?' A happy smile broke out onto his face before he gently pushed her back a bit to look into her eyes.
"That's... That's wonderful..." he admitted. His girlfriend smiled back, glad that he was reacted positively to her news before the smile was replaced by a concerned look.
"What are we going to do...?" she asked as a few tears fell. "We're not going to worry about anything right now, alright? This is a happy moment. The happiest that has happened to me in a long time." he replied before kissing her.
"How far along are you?" he asked after breaking the kiss and wiping some tears off her face. "I checked with the medical droid yesterday and he said I'm one week." she replied before he kissed her again.
"Everything Is going to alright, Sabine. I promise." he assured before hugging her and placing a kiss on her head as he felt her relax in her arms. 'I won't lose you like I lost my parents.'
The eponym of the Chosen One's eyes flashed yellow with that promise as a breath was heard echoing around...
Chapter 38 done. Bet none of you were expecting that.
