Volume 3 Chapter 12: The Return Home

Ruby launched herself up as she gasped for air, she looked around in a frantic and scared manner. But instead of finding the base she and her friends had been held captive in, she found that she was back in her old room. Or at least something that resembled her old room, like it had come out of a memory. She looked around the room and saw the stuff that used to be in her room.

The toys that were scattered throughout the room, that she was always told to clean up. Posters of old cartoon characters, like a sponge with a snail next to him, a group of five teenage superheroes, a martial artist with his uncle and niece, as well as a poster of four humanoids with a creepy sun in the background. She looked around and saw that she was in her old bed, the one with railings on the side to ensure that she wouldn't fall out of bed while sleeping.

She then looked at herself and saw that she was much smaller, didn't have her semblance anymore and couldn't climb out of the bed. She was three and a half years old again, and it freaked her out. So she began to call out "Ang... Eiss... Wake... Ock!" But not much came out of her mouth due to her limited vocabulary, causing her to start crying.

It was at that moment that the light in the hallway turned on and the door to her room opened. And to Ruby's surprise in the doorway stood her mother, just like she remembered her. A sweet smile plastered on her face, shining silver eyes and the white cloak that she used to hide under when she was younger.

"Oh you poor dear, did you have a bad dream?" Asked Summer, as she entered the room and walked over to Ruby. Picking her up, hugging her and patting her to calm her down.

"Momma, momma." Cried Ruby.

"That's alright my little rose, they're just dreams. Remember what I always told you, they can't hurt you, unless you let them." Said Summer, with the calm and soothing voice that Ruby remembered so well. This stopped her crying, Summer saw this and asked "There, all better? Do you want to go back to sleep?"

"Mhm mhm." Mumbled Ruby, as she shook her head to say no.

"You don't? Well that's fine, it was time for you to get out of bed anyways." Said Summer, as she opened the curtains revealing the light of the sun entering the room. Showing that it was already late in the morning.

"What do you say we spend the rest of the day together? Your father and sister are doing their own thing today, how does that sound?" Asked Summer.

"Momma!" Cheered Ruby, as she threw her hands into the air in excitement having forgotten about everything that had happened, seeing it as only a bad dream.

And so mother and daughter began to spend the rest of the day with each other, first the two had breakfast after which Summer rewarded Ruby for finishing her meal by allowing Ruby to help her with baking cookies. After Summer had created the dough, Ruby was allowed to form the shapes of the cookies while also sneakily eating some of the chocolate chips that were supposed to go onto the cookies. After which they were put into the oven and were done by lunch time.

And so for Lunch the two had cookies with strawberry's, and after lunch had been finished Summer read Ruby a story. The story of a girl with blond hair that could turn into a dragon, teaming up with a princess with white hair that could summon enemies that she previously defeated. The two characters teamed up to fight a Witch that was pure evil, Ruby had heard the story before each time with different characters teaming up and each time the different character sets were victorious over the Witch.

But she didn't mind that she had heard the story before, she just liked being told a story by her mother. After that she was put to sleep for an hour by her mother singing a song about roses and how they bloomed at the right time. An hour later she had finished her nap, and now Ruby and her mother were in the park. Ruby in the stroller with Summer driving her around the park, and there she saw a lot of things.

First she saw what looked to be stray black cat who approached them, the cat was shy at first but after a few moments the cat got closer and Ruby was able to pet her. The cat then left and the two continued through the park, and she saw a lot of people practicing sports. A man with black hair and a green shirt was meditating in the park, while his red haired friend was playing on a nearby wack-a-mole machine and yelling that if the game was rigged she would break the legs of the people operating it.

Somewhere else a blond shirtless guy was practicing his moves with his bow staff, while his blue haired friend was flirting with some of the women at the park. While at the same time another red haired girl was doing yoga with what seemed to be her blond boyfriend or maybe just friend. It was really unclear to Ruby what their relationship was. Though Ruby and her mom were nearly robbed by a red haired guy with a top hat, when Summer got distracted by a child with multi coloured hair. But luckily Summer was able to keep her purse and the duo of thieves ran off.

Which brought them to now, it was now evening and it had gotten dark. Yang and her dad still hadn't returned from their activities, so Summer and Ruby were eating dinner together. And while they were eating dinner Ruby heard something on the radio about a hero in blue saving a city from robots and it was at that moment that Ruby remembered what had happed and got a sad look on her face.

Summer noticed this and asked "What's wrong, my little rose?"

"None of this is real, is it?" Asked Ruby, after which the entire room changed and she found herself in a dark void. But with her mother still facing her only looking much older and looking like a ghost.

"It's as real as you want it to be." Replied Summer.

"What is this, where am I?" Ruby asked with panic in her voice.

"You're in purgatory Ruby." Replied Summer.

"Are you really my mom or is this just a trick?" Asked Ruby, as tears were flowing down her face.

Summer simply approached Ruby and pulled her into a hug, after which she asked "Does this feel like a trick, my little rose?"

Ruby then started to sob while holding onto her mother and exclaimed "Why! Why did you leave us!"

"I'm sorry... I can't tell you that..." Replied Summer.

"Why not!" Yelled Ruby, as she continued to sob.

"It's not the right time to tell you, and if I told you now it would put you and your team into massive danger." Said Summer, thinking back to her demise. "But, just because I'm not longer alive doesn't mean that I haven't been watching over you and your sister. I was never truly gone, I lived on in your memories and in your heart."

Ruby continued to sob for some time, while her mother held onto her to comfort her. After some time had passed Ruby became unable to cry more and realised where she was. So she asked "Does this mean that I'm dead?"

Summer sighed and replied "That depends on the next choice you make."

"What do you mean?" Asked Ruby.

Summer let go of her daughter and moved backwards. Behind her two paths appeared and she said "Ruby you are in purgatory because you got all of your aura drained by that madman, but you also weren't supposed to die."

"Wha... Wha... I don't get it, what are you talking about?" Asked Ruby.

"You know the story of the two brothers right and how they shaped remnant?" Asked Summer, to which Ruby nodded. "Even though they created Remnant, they aren't the only deities out there and the ones in charge of the afterlife saw what happened and are willing to send you back. But it has to be through your decision, you have to choose."

"What is there to choose from?" Asked Ruby.

Summer pointed at the two paths that appeared behind her and said "You have two choices, take the path to the right and you return to the world of the living to help your friends and continue to fight for what is right."

"And the path on the left, what happens if I take that path?" Asked Ruby.

"You officially pass on to the afterlife and we'll have all the time we need to spend time with each other. We'll watch over Tai, Qrow and your sister until they join us, we'll be together again." Replied Summer, who then began to fade away but not before adding "Make the right choice Ruby, just know that regardless of the choice you make that I'll always be proud of you. I love you my little rose." After which she fully faded away, leaving Ruby on her own.

"Mom!" Ruby yelled out, but there was no answer. Ruby was alone in a dark void, with nothing to keep her company except for the two paths that her mother had laid out for her. So she sat down, grabbed her knees and began to cry in them. Feeling scared, alone and uncertain of the choice she was going to have to make.

With the others

While Yang continued to cradle Ruby's lifeless body while sobbing loudly, the rest of the group got into fighting positions due to the Atlesian paladins surrounding them from all sides and getting ready to attack them.

"Let that be a lesson to all of you, no one messes with the great doctor Merlot! You may have ruined my plans, but I'll make sure that none of you leave this place alive!" Yelled merlot, while letting out a loud cackle.

"You're a fool Merlot, a decent criminal would know not to get rid of his only hostage. Sure, you may have killed little red but now... now there is nothing stopping us from taking you down." Said Roman, as he aimed his cane at the platform Merlot was standing on and firing multiple blasts at him. The first few were blocked by the energy force field that Merlot put up around him, but the last ones managed to get through the force field and hit Merlot. The impact caused an explosion around him, and he was launched off his platform.

While being launched through the air Merlot yelled out "Paladins, attack!" before landing onto the ground and seeing that his last line of defence was already fighting against the group.

The paladins had aimed their canons at the group and began to shoot their bullets at the group. Sonic, Tails, Amy and Knuckles used their speed to move the group out of the line of fire, while Pyrrha tried to use her polarity to catch the bullets in midair. She succeeded only for her to miss one of the bullets, causing her to get shot in her right leg making her falter and unable to use her semblance. So she was quickly rushed out of the line of fire to the side by Sonic, who brought her to Jaune who began to heal the wound by amplifying her aura.

Rock, who was able to move and fight for the time being, began to charge up his buster while trying to dodge the attacks from multiple paladins. But when he finished charging up his buster, he was able to fire a charged shot along with Tails, who had his own arm canon, and R.O.B. who fired a beam from his head at a group of three paladins, which then combined into one blast. The power of that one big blast was enough to destroy the paladins, by having the blasts go through them and causing them to deactivate.

Blake then rushed at one of the paladins with Gambol Shroud in its blade form, and began to use the blade along with the sheath on the legs of one of the paladins. Slashing away on them while also using her semblance to avoid any attacks coming from the paladin. Eventually she was able to cut though the metal of the legs and through the canons, causing the paladin to fall over. Blake inspected it to make sure it was deactivated, but then the paladin activated some hidden saw blades that it extended to try and harm Blake.

She was able to get out of dodge by creating a shadow clone of herself to avoid too much damage, but it did lead to parts of her clothes getting slightly torn apart. And while in the air she saw that Weiss had quickly summoned several icicles to pierce that paladin and the three paladins that were near it. But then she saw that Merlot was about to try and escape by making his way to the exit, so she yelled "He is trying to make a break for it."

Hearing this, Yang's eyes flashed a dark red colour. A darker red then she usually had whenever she was mad or annoyed, this red colour meant one thing Merlot was about to die. She put Ruby on the ground and said "Vomit boy, heal her. We save her, just please heal her. I'm going after that bastard."

"But Yang, she's dead I can't feel her aura. There is nothing to amplify!" Yelled Jaune, with despair in his voice at the thought of losing the first friend he made at Beacon.

"Just do it!" Yelled Yang, who then ran after Merlot only for her path to get blocked by two paladins who had their blades out. So Yang used Ember Celica by shooting the ground to launch herself into the air, and then used it in the air again to get past the paladins. And she succeeded, only the paladins were able to hit her with their blades which resulted in Yang's jacket getting slightly torn up.

When she landed on the ground she saw what had happened to her jacket and thought "Damn, that was my favourite jacket." But she then shrugged the thought off as she continued to go after Merlot, in the meantime Jaune began to heal Ruby though there was a bit of hesitation on his part when he started to try and heal Ruby, or at least give her enough aura to get her to wake up again.

The two Paladins that Yang had to get past were about to go after her, but got their attention taken away from them by Knuckles throwing a pillar at them. Which stunned them for long enough to allow Ness to shoot out a PK fire and for Lucas to fire a PK blast at the paladins. The power of which destroyed the robots and left only a couple of them still standing.

One paladin came charging at the group and was about to punch Roman, only for Neo to jump in between, take the hit for Roman, use her semblance to shatter herself into glass pieces and allowing Roman to fire several blasts at the paladin which knocked it backwards. Agent 3 then threw in a few splat bombs at the paladin, which covered it with ink and made it so that it wouldn't be able to aim. Which gave Neo the chance to take the blade out of her umbrella and stab the paladin with it. That didn't fully destroy it however, so Amy used her hammer to smash the paladin to pieces, fully destroying it this time.

While all of that was happening Yang had managed to catch up to Merlot and had managed to tackle him to the ground, she then yelled "You murdered my sister!" After which she delivered several full power punched to Merlot's head. With each punch more and more black liquid started to leak out of his body, and his face started to look more mutilated with each punch.

But as she continued to punch him, he only started to laugh. Causing Yang to stop, while he said "Go on, finish it little girl. But just know, killing me won't bring your sister back." After hearing that, something snapped within Yang and dark energy started to surround her. She let out a monstrous roar, pinned him to a nearby wall with her left hand and with a sadistic look on her face she started to punch into his body with her right hand. All the while more and more darkness started to surround her.

The group saw this happen, and Blake with a look of horror on her face whispered "Yang... no..."

Weiss then yelled out "We have to do something, and fast! Otherwise we lose Yang as well!"

"Did you girls already learn about the light and dark aura, as well as its dangers?" Asked Roman.

"We did, I think it was at the end of our first semester. The teachers thought it was best if we learned about it now, so we could also help our teammates better." Replied Rock.

"Wait, dark aura. What are you guys talking about?" Asked Agent 3.

Rock turned to the group of people, who were giving him confused looks and said "Basically, aura is the thing that keeps people alive in this world it's what allows people to live. Within people resides light aura and dark aura, and its balance is detrimental to keeping people functioning. However if the balance is destroyed, and people allow anger, despair, hatred, sadness or something else to take over it causes them to be taken over by dark aura."

"We were told in that lecture that very few people can go back from being turned evil by dark aura, and it leads to them being turned into creatures of darkness. It's also been stated that those who have been turned into monsters had to be killed by their allies to put them out of their misery. If we can't save Yang, she will be lost forever."

"Wow, impressive. You actually paid attention in that lecture." Said Weiss.

"I always pay attention." Replied Rock, as another alarm went off and more normal sized robots began to make their way into the hall.

"More of them, seriously? These guys just don't know when to quit." Said Sonic.

"What do we do?" Asked Rock.

"Hmm, you three should go help blondie. We'll deal with these robots." Said Roman, as he used his cane to shoot three robots through the head.

Rock, Blake and Weiss looked at each other and nodded, and then ran away from the group to go and help Yang. They ran off, only for their path to be blocked by the single remaining Atlesian android, who had its lance pointed at Weiss.

"You aren't going anywhere." Said the android, as he kept his lance pointed at Weiss.

"How are we going to get past him?" Asked Rock.

"You two go ahead, this thing came into existence by my fathers hand. So I will make sure that it's me who takes him down." Said Weiss, as she got Myrtenaster ready and summoned several glyphs that shot out fire balls that distracted the android and allowed Rock and Blake to more forward.

The android started the fight by charging at Weiss with his lance pointed out, and intending to fully impale Weiss. However, Weiss used her her glyphs on the ground to ice skate out of the way of the attack. This caused the android to get stuck in a wall, and gave Weiss an opening to shoot several icicles at the android. These were immediately shattered to dust upon impact and it seemed like the attack hadn't done much damage to the android.

The android managed to pull his lance out of the wall, and then summoned a Boarbatusk which immediately charged at Weiss. Who had to dodge out of the way fast due to not anticipating that from the android. The summoned Boarbatusk then began to charge itself up in a ball, and launched itself at Weiss who used her rapier to deflect the attack. The Boarbatusk landed on it's back and Weiss was reminded of something Ruby had said "Weiss! Go for its belly! There is no armour underneath..."

She wiped away a small tear that had formed on her face from the memory, as she then rushed at the Boarbatusk and stabbed it through its unprotected torso. Causing it to disappear, but Weiss couldn't celebrate just yet. As she was knocked into a nearby wall by the android with its lance, she looked up and saw that the android was about to strike. Only for nothing to happen, as Weiss saw that there was some hesitation in the movement but that hesitation disappeared and the android got ready to strike Weiss down.

Weiss's mind began to race to think of an idea to get out of this situation, but then it hit her. Whitley's aura was in the android, and aura is a part of someones soul. "Wait, Whitley! Don't do this!" Yelled Weiss.

The android stopped and asked with its robotic voice "Who is Whitley, there is no Whitley here." But then, another voice spoke up from within the android, that reminded Weiss of her younger brother. "Weiss... what's going on?" asked the voice from within the android.

"Whitley, can you hear me?" Asked Weiss.

"Weiss... I'm scared. Help..." Whitley's voice was heard from within the android, but it was then drowned out by the voice of the android "Quiet you, you are nothing but a voice. I control this body, I work for Master Merlot. And you are done for." Said the android as he continued to aim his lance at Weiss.

"I won't let you harm my sister!" Yelled Whitley's voice from within the android, only for it to be drowned out by the voice of the android "Shut up you weak little pest, you've been in the back of my mind ever since my creation and now you decide to finally act against me!"

"You are both weak, is it any wonder that you were able to be captured so easily? Is it any wonder that your father allowed your aura to be taken? Is it any wonder that the annoyance in red was so easily taken care off!" Yelled the android.

The android kept yelling at her, but didn't move forward. Weiss guessed that it was due to her brother's aura fighting for control against the programming of the robot, but hearing the robot insult her, her family, her friends and everything she stood for made something snap inside of her. It got to the point that she had enough, she stabbed her rapier into the ground, summoned a massive glyph and after a flash of light a white arma gigas was standing behind her.

"What's that going to do, lose for you?" Asked the android in a mocking tone, as the android began to summon a Goliath.

Weiss didn't respond, instead she used her rapier to control the movement of the arma gigas and used its blade to impale the both the Goliath that hadn't been fully summoned and the android after which it was sliced in half. But just before the android's pieces exploded, she heard a voice calling out to her "Weiss... thank you." She heard Whitley's voice say to her from within the android.

The android exploded, and all that was left was a cloud of white aura that was floating in the air. Weiss looked at it and whispered "Please return to your original source." After which the cloud of white aura vanished from the air and the arma gigas faded away, Weiss then sat down on the ground breathing heavily as she felt tired from the fight. She then looked at her skirt and saw that it had ripped a bit during the fight.

She decided to ignore it for now, as she remembered that Blake and Rock had gone after Yang and wasn't sure if they were succeeding. So she ran towards the direction that she had last seen Blake and Rock run off towards.

Earlier with Yang

As Yang continued to beat up Merlot, more and more darkness began to surround her. All the while Merlot kept mocking her, making her only angrier and angrier "Go on, give into the anger. It won't bring back your sister."

Yang looked upon him, and Merlot saw that her eyes had turned completely black. She gave him a sadistic grin and prepared to deliver the final blow to Merlot and was ready to punch through his chest. But she was then stopped when Rock and Blake ran into the area, and yelled "Yang, don't do it!"

Yang's head turned to face them, and they looked in horror as they saw that the darkness was beginning to overtake her. While Yang replied with a demonic tone in her voice "Go away!"

"Yang, please don't give into the darkness!" Yelled Blake.

"Shut up Blake, you know nothing. He killed Ruby, I'm returning the favour!" Yelled Yang, as she readied herself to deliver the final blow.

"Yang you didn't just lose your sister, we lost her as well. We lost our leader, our teammate, our friend. But you can't give into the darkness, cause if you do we'll be forced to take you out as well. And I don't want to lose another team mate!" Yelled Rock.

"I don't care, he... must...DIE!" Yelled Yang, only for her to feel that Blake and Rock were now holding onto her and were trying to prevent her from going through with the action. "Why do you persist?" Asked Yang.

"Cause I have been there Yang, in the exact same position you are right now. There were times in the White Fang where I felt like I had lost everything, where I had lost my way and felt that the only action that was left to be taken was to join the others and kill everyone we saw. Just give into it, I know what it's like to have killed and at first you might think that getting revenge by killing your tormentor might help you. But it stays with you forever, it is the one thing you can't take back." Said Blake.

"He killed Ruby!" Yelled Yang.

"We know, and we won't let him get away with it. But Yang, please don't do this. You know what got me out of the mindset that killing wasn't the only option? Meeting all of you, you all gave me hope. And Ruby's innocence made me realise that there might still be some good left in the world, she always brought the best out in other people. If you go through with killing him now, you will destroy that memory." Said Blake.

There was a bit of hesitation on Yang's part, but the angry look on her face and the darkness surrounding her wasn't disappearing. So Rock spoke up "Yang, listen to me. There were times where I got sick of Doctor Wily and even times that I wanted to kill him. But, it won't solve anything. There will always be people who will follow in his footsteps. Merlot shouldn't be killed, he needs to rot in prison for the rest of his miserable life."

"He killed Ruby, tortured us, put Nora in a coma, caused destruction all over remnant and caused the death of who knows how many people with his robots!" Yelled Yang.

It was then that Weiss came running into the area and yelled "Yang, i'm here listen to my voice. Ruby might be gone, but we are still here. Don't give into it."

"Shut up all of you, you're just holding me back!" Yelled Yang, who was now going to go through with killing Merlot. Only for Rock, Blake and Weiss to pull Yang into a hug and at that moment, feeling the warmth of her friends, the darkness around her began to fade away and the colour of her eyes began to turn back to normal. "Guys, I'm sorry." Whimpered Yang, as she began to sob. But it was fine, as she was being held within the arms of her friends.

However, taking their attention away from Merlot was a mistake. As doing so allowed Merlot to press a button on his wristband, which caused Yang, Rock, Blake and Weiss to get shocked by electricity and became unable to move. Merlot then slammed Yang into the ground and began to choke her out.

Merlot cackled madly as he did so, and said "Oh poor little Yang, couldn't go through with after all. You're weak, you're pathetic and above all instead of avenging your sister you and your friends are going to join her." As he let out another cackle of mad laughter.

Yang struggled to form words, making Merlot ask "What's that, I can't hear you? You're going to have to speak up." After which he tightened the grip around her neck.

"Go on, tell me how much you hate me. Tell me how much you were going to make me suffer for killing your sister!" Yelled Merlot, who was about to continue strangling Yang only for him to get blasted into a nearby wall by powerful blast of fire coming from Roman's cane. After which Neo flew into the room, and sliced Merlot's body in half causing a huge splat of a black ooze to form on the ground.

Weiss, Blake and Rock got out of their shocked state and immediately looked over to see if Yang was ok, but they gave a sigh of relief when they saw that Yang was sitting up on her power and was doing fine despite nearly choking. They then all looked over and saw that the group had made it to them, Rock looked at them and asked "How did you guys get here?"

"Simple, those robots were easy to beat and just served as a way of keeping us away from you guys." Replied Sonic.

"Uhm Guys, I have some good news." Said Jaune, as he stepped aside and saw that an alive Ruby, who was waving at them, was being carried an awake Mewtwo.

"RUBY!" Yelled Yang, Rock, Weiss and Blake as they ran over to them and pulled Ruby into a massive bear hug after Mewtwo had put her down. They kept hugging her and kept holding onto her, not wanting to let her go again.

It was then that Yang turned to Jaune and asked "But how? You said that you didn't feel her aura."

"I don't know, I had only started to heal her a for bit and there she was. Awake, like she hadn't just had all her aura drained from her body." Replied Jaune.

"Still, thank you." Replied Yang, as she then continued to hug her sister as she yelled at her "Don't you ever scare me like that again!"

"I'm sorry Yang, I didn't think this was going to happen." Replied Ruby.

"Awwww... how cute... a family reunited." Said a voice, the group all turned to the source of the noise and saw that Merlot was still able to talk despite being sliced in two.

"You're still alive? How are you still alive!" Yelled Yang.

Merlot laughed and replied "Foolish children, I can't be killed at this point."

"We'll see about that." Replied Roman, as he fired another blast from his cane which destroyed the left side of Doctor Merlot's body. Which showed him to be made off nothing but machines and gears.

Seeing this, everyone looked at the reveal in shock and caused the room to fall silent. "No organic material detected." Said R.O.B.

"Wait, is that metal and oil?" Asked Rock in confusion.

"Are you cyborg! Why are you a cyborg!" Yelled Yang.

"How is that possible?" Signed Neo.

"Don't you get it? I'm a genius, you think I wouldn't have prepared myself for this? You think I would just idly sit by and watch my plans get destroyed by a bunch of teenagers? No, I would never let that happen. So, I made sure to prepare myself by building a body where I could transfer my mind to, in case of my original plans failing. It was a simple body at first, but when I got Albert to work for me after he started to grow jealous of his old friend... Lets just say that things got a lot easier for me."

"You're all foolish children, to think that you could stand in my way and stop my plans sickens me to my core. But, I still had plans that needed to be made and carried out. So like the weed that grows back stronger after you pull it out the first, I came back and made sure that my plans wouldn't fail. And quite frankly, I don't regret what I did. Everything I did, was to make Remnant better. No matter how many people I had to kill, I would ensure that Remnant was united."

"I have spend the last twenty years working on this, and to see it get destroyed makes me feel something that I haven't felt in a long time. Regret, I feel nothing but regret over my plans failing. As for how I was able to withstand so much punishment and still keep going. Let's just say that the aura of a certain blond knight came in handy." Said Merlot, as a yellow energy started to ooze out of him.

"What about those people you have hurt or killed?" Asked Blake.

"I couldn't care less about them." Said Merlot, as he saw that the last bit of oil was beginning to leak out and he was beginning to deactivate "...I have... a few moment left... I can feel it... Though I do congratulate you... on killing me... My influence will be felt... from here on out... you will never truly be rid... of... Doctor... Merlot!"

It was at that moment that his eyes closed and the machines inside of his body stopped working, leading to Lucas asking "Is he dead?"

"I don't feel him anymore." Replied Mewtwo "He is gone, or at least his spirit is."

"Hmm, not got enough." Said Roman as he aimed his cane at the still intact head of Doctor Merlot and fired a blast from his cane into his head. The blast exploded onto the head upon impact and blasted the head to pieces.

"Why did you do that?" Asked Blake.

"Two things, payback and now when the general or your headmaster ask who killed Doctor Merlot. You wouldn't have to lie or get in trouble for killing a man." Replied Roman.

"That was no man." Grumbled Yang.

"You may be right on that blondie, but that doesn't matter anymore. He is dead, and none of you have to live with the guilt of killing someone." Said Roman, who then pointed at the main entrance of the base with his cane and added "Oh look at that, there is nothing stopping us from leaving this place. And oh look an airship, let's all get out of this place."

The group nodded and made their way to the large, stolen Atlesian airship. While Yang and Rock carried the very tired Ruby into the airship, after a while everyone had made it onboard. But that created the problem of who was going to fly the airship.

"What do you mean you don't want to fly it?" Asked Roman to Neo.

"I already flew it this way, I don't feel like flying this thing all the way back to Vale on my own." Signed Neo.

"So you want me to fly this thing back to Vale? Surely you can't be serious." Said Roman.

"I am serious, and don't call me Shirley." Signed Neo.

"Don't worry Roman, Sonic and I have experience flying planes and airships." Said Tails.

"Well that's great, I think we should take off immediately." Said Roman, as he, Tails and Sonic got behind the controls of the airship and started pressing the right buttons. After while they had pressed all the necessary buttons and pushed in the right handles and were now able to fly off. However Roman had pressed a different set of buttons and when the airship had taken off and started flying away from the base.

It was then that a loud explosion was heard coming from the base, some of the group looked over and saw that the base had exploded into a giant ball of fire.

"How did that happen?" Asked Agent 3.

"I gave the airship a separate command to fire most of its missiles into the base upon our departure." Said Roman.

"Why would you do that?" Asked Ness.

"To be absolutely certain that he wouldn't come back or be able to survive." Replied Roman.

"Well, it's like they always say. There is no kill, like overkill." Said Sonic.

"Exactly, you get the idea blue hedgehog." Said Roman, after which he joined Sonic and Tails in flying the airship back to Vale as some small groups formed with some people taking a nap to unwind from the ordeal while others decided to talk. Roman looked at the navigation system and said "Says here that we should be in Vale in a couple of hours."

"It does, is there anything we should worry about?" Asked Tails.

"Maybe a few Griffons, or some other type of flying Grimm. But I'm sure we'll be fine, these airships can easily take out some Grimm." Said Roman.

"How do we know when we run into a Grimm?" Asked Sonic, with an impatient tone in his voice.

"Oh don't worry, you'll know when there are Grimm in the area." Replied Roman.

In the meantime the now reunited Team RRWBY along with Pyrrha and Jaune were talking about what had just happened, while Yang was holding onto her sister and not planning on letting go anytime soon. "Ruby, how did he catch you?" Asked Weiss.

"I had him pinned to the wall with those mechanical arms, but then I got distracted and he managed to get the drop on me." Said Ruby, as she let out a yawn.

"What did you even get distracted by?" Asked Blake.

"Files on his computer, apparently he had an entire file filled with all the crimes that Jaques Schnee had committed. There was a lot of bribery, chat records of him talking to people to cover up the collapse of a dust mine, covering up the enslavement of the Faunus in those mines and a bunch of other stuff." Replied Ruby, as she pulled out a USB stick out of her pockets.

"Why would he have so much info on father?" Asked Weiss.

"Maybe after he had Merlot steal the aura of your brother, Merlot made sure he could get enough blackmail on him to ensure that he would work either with him or for him had he succeeded in his takeover off Remnant." Said Rock.

Yang took a deep breath after hearing that, turned to Ruby and then said to Ruby "You nearly lost your life, because you got distracted by some stupid information files. Ruby, I have half a mind right now to march up to Ozpin the moment we get back to Beacon to get him to kick you out of Beacon."

"I mean, I also saved Ironwood's life." Mumbled Ruby.

"You did what? When, how?" Asked Weiss.

"Just before he had managed to catch me I saw a file on Ironwood. Turns out he had a mind control chip on his neck, that would have killed him if he were to be knocked out. I warned Uncle Qrow and dad before he caught me." Replied Ruby.

"That's our leader, always doing the right thing." Said Rock.

Ruby sighed and said "Blake, you were right."

"I was right, about what?" Asked Blake.

"The night we met, you said that the world wasn't some big fairy tale. You were right, I have seen that in these last couple of weeks." Replied Ruby.

"No, you're wrong. Sure the world may harsh, but within darkness there is light and within light there is hope. As long as hope doesn't die out, there is always a chance at success. It's like they always say, hope dies last. And it's not that you have blind optimism as I thought you had when I first met, but you see the good in others. And I wouldn't want anyone else to lead us." Said Blake, to which Rock and Weiss also nodded. After which Yang also nodded with a bit of hesitation.

It was then that Mewtwo appeared next to the group, turned to them and said "My apologies for what I had done to you, I wasn't in control."

"It's fine, you didn't hurt us too badly." Said Yang.

"What about you two?" Asked Mewtwo to Jaune and Pyrrha.

"We're fine." Said Jaune, as Pyrrha slightly nodded while resting her head on his shoulder.

Mewtwo then turned to Rock and asked "I heard that your memories were blocked, would you like me to unblock them for you?"

"Sure, maybe I'll finally understand what everyone was talking about." Replied Rock.

"Very well then, now hold still." Said Mewtwo, as Rock stood up and Mewtwo held out his hand and some psychic energy started to emanate from it. That same energy started to form around Rock's head, and slowly but steadily memories from the previous life started to flood in. After a while Mewtwo stopped using the energy, and Rock fell to his knees out of shock.

"Rock, you alright?" Asked Blake with concern in her voice.

"I'm fine, it's just a lot to take in. Memories of two different lifetimes, I can't believe that we failed. All those people, all those worlds gone in a massive blast." Said Rock.

"It's unfortunate, but I'm sure that we'll get everyone along with their worlds back eventually." Said Mewtwo.

"But, I also remember everyone again." Added Rock, with a happy look on his face.

"That's good." Said Mewtwo, as he pulled out a small bag filled with tomatoes and turned to Ruby who still seemed to be a bit low o energy "Ruby, if you want to get better sooner I recommend that you take one of these maxim' tomatoes. They'll restore all of you energy."

"Thank you." Said Ruby, as she took one of them, ate it and felt all her energy come back to her.

"Mewtwo, where did you get these?" Asked Rock.

"I found them in a drawer on the ship, someone was looking out for us today." Said Mewtwo.

"That's good to hear." Said Ruby, to which Mewtwo nodded and moved to another area, as Roman was making his way to another part of the airship with a lighter and a cigar in hand. Ruby saw this and said "Torchwick, wait! Why did you stick around?"

"What are you talking about red?" Asked Roman.

"You could have left at any moment, why did you stick around?" Asked Ruby.

"Eh, mostly revenge." Replied Roman.

"Really, that's the only reason. Revenge, nothing else?" Asked Rock.

"Alright fine, look red I don't like you. Let me make that very clear to you, you've gotten in my way more times than I'd like. But, despite that even I could tell that he gone too far. I may be a career criminal, but I'm not a monster. I try to kill as few people as possible, I don't like to torture people and I'm above over the top violence." Said Roman.

"Ahem." Coughed Blake, as she pointed towards her back.

"Most of the time." Said Roman, who then turned to Ruby and said "Look Red, I'll admit you have spirit and you certainly have the skills to become a good huntress. But just a warning, the real world can be cold, the real world doesn't care about spirit and it will try to beat you down every chance it gets. Most huntsmen who tried to be heroes don't live very long lives. I will just say that you got lucky, somehow you managed to come back to life and continue fighting. Just know, that you won't be as lucky next time."

Ruby stayed silent for a bit and then replied "You're right, I did get lucky. I shouldn't even be alive at the moment, I know I made a foolish mistake but I was given a chance to return to the world of the living." Said Ruby.

"Wait, by who?" Asked Yang.

"Mom... I met her in purgatory. She gave me two choices, either return to the land of the living to continue the fight or pass on and join her in watching over you, dad and uncle Qrow and then wait for you three to pass on as well. I chose to come back to you guys and yang..."

"Yes?" Asked Yang.

"I heard mom say that she was proud of who you had become before I left purgatory, she asked me to pass that along to you." Said Ruby.

"Summer said that... I'm glad she thinks that way over me." Said Yang, as some tears started to drip down her face.

"Wait a minute, Qrow, Summer oh no. Red, blondie what's the name of your father?" Asked Roman.

"Taiyang Xiao Long, why do you ask?" Replied both Yang and Ruby, as a look of shock appeared on Roman's face.

"Oh crap, I beat up Tai's kids. I'm dead, just so very dead!" Exclaimed Roman.

"You knew our parents team?" Asked Yang.

"Yeah I did, had a few run ins with them. Sold them some ammo and dust in my early years as a criminal when they were low on money, you know basic stuff. Is Raven still a pain in the ass?" Asked Roman.

"I wouldn't know, she ran out on us after my birth and left dad and Summer to take care of me." Replied Yang.

"Doesn't surprise me, she never did seem cut out to be a mother or civilised for that matter." Said Roman, as he made his way to a separate room and before he entered it he said "I'm having a smoke, if the alarm goes off just ignore it." After which he entered a different room to smoke his cigar. The airship continued to make it's way back to Vale, while people were either resting or talking amongst themselves.

It was then that Ruby petted Blake on the head, causing Blake to get a slightly shocked look on her face to which she asked "What are you doing?"

Realising what she had done, Ruby got a flustered look on her her face and replied "Sorry, I kind of saw you as an alley cat while I with my mom. The alley cat let me pet her, I thought you would allow the same."

"It's fine, just warn me next time you do that." Said Blake, to which Yang nearly started petting Blake's head, making her add "Yang, don't get any ideas." Causing Yang to slightly pout.

20 years earlier

Back in the past Doctor Merlot was bracing himself for the massive fireball that was about to hit him, but suddenly it stopped and he wasn't enveloped by flames anymore. Instead he found himself in a black void, staring into nothingness. "Hello, someone there!" He yelled out.

"Greetings Doctor Merlot." Said a demonic voice.

"Who are you, and where am I!" Yelled Doctor Merlot.

"Me, I'm someone who you could call an ally. But you may call me, Ganon or Ganondorf. As for where you are, consider this a place between time and space outside the realm of reality." Said the voice, which was revealed to be coming from a pig like shadow.

"An ally, how do I know you can be trusted?" Asked Doctor Merlot.

"Simple, I have the answer's you are looking for. I have way that you can return to the living world, and continue what you started." Said Ganondorf.

"Why would you help me?" Asked Doctor Merlot.

"I have plans for this world, and I need people to prepare it for my arrival." Replied Ganondorf. "You are one of those people."

"Then what do you want me to do?" Asked Doctor Merlot.

"I want you to unite humanity, like you were originally planning. Make sure that you succeed and I'll ensure your survival." Said Ganondorf.

"What do I do, how do I start?" Asked Merlot.

"I have been corrupting a young robotics student into becoming jealous and resentful of his friend. He'll built you a new body, everything else. You will have to find out on your own. So do we have deal?" Asked Ganondorf

Merlot thought for a bit, considering all the options and then he realised that he could get revenge on those that opposed him. So he said "I'll do it."

"Excellent, you'll be roaming through remnant as a spirit until you have your own body again." Said Ganondorf, as he snapped his fingers. Which made Merlot disappear from the realm he was in.

In the present

After his robotic body got destroyed, and his brain got destroyed by the explosion Merlot found himself in the same realm that he found himself in twenty years ago. "Hmm, I'm here again. Hello! Ganondorf, are you here?" Asked Doctor Merlot, it was then that a massive shadow appeared behind him. Merlot looked over and saw that Ganondorf was standing in front of him. Only this time he looked to be much more powerful than he remembered him being twenty years ago.

"Well, well, well look who failed their plan." Said Ganondorf, as he held out his hand and used some purple energy to hold Merlot in place.

"I... I did what you told me! I made a new plan, I nearly succeeded in taking over Remnant!" Exclaimed Doctor Merlot.

"And yet, your plan was once again foiled by mere children. One of whom came back from the dead, and you failed spectacularly. You failed Merlot." Said Ganondorf, as a portal started opening under Merlot.

"What are you doing! I can still help you!" Yelled Merlot, as the portal began to pull Merlot in.

"I don't think so, you failed twice. Which means you also failed me, and I don't have a lot of patience for failure." Replied Ganondorf.

"Wait, no! You can't do this, look how far I came. I was able to get one of the most influential in Remnant under my control, I was able to send all my robots all over Remnant, look how far I got! That's got to count for something! Give me another chance!" Yelled Merlot, as his feet had entered the portal.

"Afraid I can't do that, see the people in charge of the afterlife will notice when you manage to evade death for a second time. So it's time for you to burn for your crimes." Said Ganondorf.

"No, I won't let you!" Yelled Merlot, as was now halfway into the portal.

Ganondorf then looked at Merlot as he was being dragged into the portal towards a fiery doom and said "Though you might have failed, you also succeeded. Opening that rift to get all those people out and then putting the energy from that rift in the robots created an imbalance that has weakened the barrier. Soon that barrier will be weak enough, and I'll be strong enough to escape this place. So thank you Merlot, your failure was my success. Now enjoy eternity."

"You bastard!" Yelled Merlot, as he was fully pulled through the fiery portal into a fiery eternity. After he was gone Ganondorf teleported away to a different location.

In the living world

The airship that was carrying the group had managed to make it back to Vale, after several uneventful hours of travelling through the sky. Team RRWBY were lightly asleep, when they were shaken awake by Knuckles. Rock was the first to wake up and said with a tired voice "Uh... Knuckles... what's going on?"

"We have an incoming call from your headmaster at Beacon." Said Knuckles.

"Professor Ozpin is calling us!" Yelled Ruby, who was shaken awake by the news. The group quickly made it to the monitor and accepted the call from Beacon academy, it was then that they were met with the image of Professor Ozpin.

"Professor Ozpin, we're here. What's going on?" Asked Rock.

"Oh thank goodness, you are all alright. Listen, I know you kids want to get back to Beacon as soon as possible. But there is a problem." Said Ozpin through the video screen.

"What is it?" Asked Ruby.

"Someone hacked the news and posted a video, you should really see it for yourself." Said Ozpin, as the video was put on the screen.

There was some static, but after a while the face of Xander Payne was seen and he said "Hello Vale! I know that the Mega Man has returned. I also know that he is no hero, and I want to prove it."

The video footage then showed Doctor Light, Doctor Polendina, Doctor Cossack and Doctor Lalinde being tied to chairs in an abandoned warehouse, it also showed a deactivated Penny, Proto, Roll, Auto and Tempo laying on the ground.

The footage then cut back to Xander, who said "See that Mega Man, I have your friends and family. And if you don't come to the warehouse I'm in alone, I'll kill them all. You have one hour."

The footage turned off and Ozpin showed up on screen again and said "Mr Light, he wants you. However the Vale PD is already at the warehouse, however it can be dangerous. I want your team to stay with you."

"Professor, how long ago was that video made?" Asked Rock.

"About forty five minutes ago, why do you ask?" Asked Ozpin.

"I just hope I'm not too late." Said Rock.

"Don't worry, we'll help you." Said Yang, as she patted Rock on his back.

"Good, cause I feel like I'm close to falling apart any minute now. The repairs allowed me to move again, but I can myself growing weaker." Said Rock, causing his teammates to get a shocked look on their faces.

"Is it wise to go in there then?" Asked Weiss.

"I have no choice, if I don't go in there four people die. If I do go in there, I might be able to save them." Said Rock.

His teammates wanted to speak up, but then they were interrupted by Professor Ozpin "Sorry to interrupt, but we have another video coming in."

The team looked at the screen and were met with the crazed look on the face of Xander who started saying "Seeing as the Mega Man isn't taking this serious, I'll show you that I'm serious about this." The Screen cut to showing that an entire room filled with Faunus were tied up in another room of the warehouse. The screen then cut back to Xander's face who added "See, look at all the people I've got here. Listen Mega Man, if you don't show up within fifteen minutes I'll blow this up. Your father dies, his colleagues die and all these people die as well."

"Remember, I hold all the cards. Don't try to mess with me, and try to ignore my demands." Said Xander, as the footage cut off.

"You kids know what this means right?" Asked Ozpin.

"We do, we'll be able to deal with it." Said Rock.

"Good, the Vale PD has said that they have a device that allows them to scramble the frequency of the detonator to the bombs. You need to keep him busy long enough for them to succeed. You think you can do that?" Asked Ozpin.

"Don't worry, I have dealt with him before. I can do it again." Said Rock.

"Then I'll leave you to it." Said Ozpin, as the screen turned off.

Rock turned to everyone in the airship and said "Guys, I'm going to need everyone on standby. That man, is a sociopath. There is no telling what he'll do, but we need to get those people out of there. If it gets to the point that he blows up the building, I need you guys to get those people out of there as fast as possible."

"But Rock, what if he kills you! We just got you back!" Yelled Ruby, to which Yang, Weiss and Blake nodded.

"I wouldn't worry about that, I can be repaired. But humans can't be repaired so easily." Said Rock, as he set the coordinates for the airship to the location of the warehouse and in less than a minute was the airship at the right destination. "I need someone to park the ship, I'll see you guys on the ground." Said Rock as he teleported out of the airship and onto the ground.

Once he was on the ground he saw the Vale PD ready to make their move, he made eye contact with Agent Stern who gave him the go ahead to move forward into the warehouse. So he entered through the door and found himself walking through a hallway with red arrows on the walls pointing him in the right direction. Rock really hoped that it wasn't blood that was on the wall.

He kept moving until he made it to the main area of the warehouse, where he saw the four scientists sitting tied to the chairs. He was about to approach them, but then he felt his right arm feeling really heavy. Making him unable to move forward, and then he heard a voice he was dreading to hear "Why hello there, Mega Man. Good to see that you've managed to escape." Said Xander, as he made his way out of the shadows of room.

"Ngh, Xander what are you doing? What did you do to me?" Asked Rock, as he struggled to move due to his heavy shooting arm.

"Hmm, what I did to you? Simple, I fired an electromagnetic pulse towards that buster of your. It's a pretty new weapon actually, you won't be moving for quite a while." Said Xander, with sadistic glee in his voice.

"Why are you doing this?" Asked Rock.

"Why? You want to know why? Why? WHY! YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY!" Yelled Xander, before letting out a mad laughter "Ohohohohohohoho, that's rich. He wants to know why? Don't you get it!" Yelled Xander, who fired several electromagnetic pulse shots at Rock causing his left arm, his legs and his body to become heavy and caused him to fall to the ground. His head being the only thing capable of moving around, and so he looked at Xander who kicked him several times.

"You want to know why I'm doing this?" Asked Xander, not waiting for an answer as he kicked Rock in the head a couple of times. He then said "You are the reason I'm like this, because of you I lost my eye. Because of you, I lost everything! And now, I'm going to make sure that you don't make it out of here."

"Wh-what are you going to do?" Asked Rock, trying to keep Xander occupied as the bomb disposal squad of the Vale PD had snuck into the building and was making sure that the bombs wouldn't be able to go off.

"It's really simple actually, see this new gun that I have fries servers of robots and makes them unable to move. See, this can still be reversed if it's done to their arms, legs and torso. But the head, when that gets fried everything will be gone your memories, your personality, your experiences. You will be nothing but mindless husk, and no matter how many times they try to repair you they'll never get it quite back to the way it once was." Said Xander, who then aimed his EMP gun at Rock's head "Any last words, Mega Man?"

"Why do you go so far?" Asked Rock.

"Hmm, what are you talking about?" Asked Xander, as he lowered his gun.

"Why go so far, as to try and kidnap all these just to get me! Why go so far, your cause just wanted to get rid of us robots. Why go so far as to kidnap humans, just to get to me?" Asked Rock.

"Simple, a peaceful solution to get rid of robots was dead on arrival. Also, those filthy animals aren't human. Anyways, time to say goodbye Mega Man." Said Xander, who then re-aimed his EMP Gun at Rock and got ready to fire.

However his attention was caught when someone yelled out "Get away from him you bastard!" after which he was met with a fist to the face from Yang and was slammed into a wall. Ruby and Weiss then entered the room and freed the four scientists.

Xander then looked up and saw what happened, causing him to exclaim "No! You were supposed to come alone! You weren't supposed to have help! Well, seeing as you can't listen to simple instructions it will be time time enact plan B." After which he got out the detonator and then he said "Time to say goodbye, Mega Man."

He pressed the button on the detonator, only for nothing to happen. He tried to press it again only for nothing to happen again, he chuckled to himself and said "Oh I see it now, you were just a distraction. Meant to keep me busy, while the police deactivated my bombs. Oh well, I still have my gun." Xander was about to aim his EMP gun at Rock, only for it to get sliced to pieces by Blake jumping in through the window and using Gambol Shroud to destroy the weapon.

"Ah, the White Fang member. I was wondering when you would show up to save your people." Said Xander, with a mocking tone in his voice.

Blake was having none of it however, and put her blade on his neck. "You better be as quiet as possible, or I'll make sure that you never talk again."

"Blake, what are you doing?" Asked Yang, as she saw what was happening.

"You better listen to your master, pet." Said Xander.

"Shut up." Said Blake angrily, as her anger was beginning to rise.

"All your life you fight to become equals with humans. But guess what, you'll never become an equal to anyone!" Exclaimed Xander.

"You don't know what you are talking about." Replied Blake.

"I don't? Really? Well, let me tell you something animal. You are nothing, you are barely even a person! You are nothing, but a violent animal." Said Xander, with venom dripping off of every word he said.

"Shut up, you want to see an animal! I'll show you one!" Yelled Blake, as she turned Gambol Shroud into it's gun form while keeping her sheath pointed at Xander, she then also pointed her gun at Xander."

"Blake don't do it!" Yelled Weiss.

"Blake... don't." Rock struggled to say.

"Blake, you told me earlier not to go through with it. That I would regret it if I went through with it, so please. Let the police handle him." Said Yang.

"Blake... you kill him... he'll win... He might... not prove... robots to be bad... but a faunus... killing a man... it won't go well." Rock struggled to say.

"Go on, listen to your owners pet." Said Xander, causing Blake to load her gun and she nearly pulled the trigger only for her to be stopped when Ruby spoke up.

"Blake, if you do this we won't be able to help you. If you kill this man, you will be arrested. There is nothing that we can, I won't be able to help you as team leader and Ozpin won't be able to help you either. So don't do it." Said Ruby.

Blake hesitated for a bit, thinking about what Ruby had said. However the hesitation, allowed Xander to go free, punch Blake in the gut and run towards the exit while screaming "Freedom! This isn't the last you've seen of Xander Payne!" He ran to the door and opened it, only to be met with the guns of the entire Vale PD pointed at his face "Oh you've got to be kidding me!"

Agent Stern walked over to him with handcuffs ready and said "Xander Payne, I don't think I have to tell how much trouble you are in. But for the sake of redundancy I'll say anyways, Xander Payne you are under arrest for everything that you've done." While Stern brought Xander to the arrest van, he gave the signal to get the hostages out of the warehouse.

Later

After helping the Vale PD free all the captured Faunus and sending them on their way, after which they witnessed Agent Stern and Agent Krantz thank Rock for his help and then they saw as the Vale PD drove off with Xander Payne in their arrest van. After which the robots had been turned on again, and they were all happy to see Rock again after all this time.

While the group was making their way over to the airship, Doctor Light was busy looking at wiring to ensure that Rock could move again. He the sighed as he saw what had happened to his son and asked "Rock, what happened to you?"

"I was torn apart by that madman." Replied Rock.

Doctor Light sighed and said "Don't worry, I'll fix you up to the point that you'll be able to move again. Then I'll fix you up completely back at the lab."

"Thank you, dad." Replied Rock.

The group made their way to the airship, and were met with several guilty looks coming from everyone. "What happened here?" Asked Ruby, with a hint of suspicion in her voice.

"And where are Torchwick and his henchmen?" Asked Yang.

"They, uhm, they left a note." Said Lucas, as he handed Ruby to the note for her to read.

"Let me see that." Said Ruby, as she began to read the note.

"Well that's annoying." Said Weiss.

"They managed to sneak away while we were keeping watch, and they took one of the smaller airships. Sorry about that." Said Knuckles.

"It's fine, the most important thing is that we're all safe." Said Ruby.

"Then we should go back to the school, does anyone know where we should go?" Asked Tails.

"I do, I'll help with navigating." Said Blake, as she joined Sonic and Tails at the the control centre of the airship.

Doctor light and his colleagues, as well as the robots went to a separate room in the airship to help fix Rock, while at the same time the airship took off towards Beacon.

A bit later they arrived at Beacon, and when they landed on the Beacon they saw that there was a big mess and the robotic cleaners were cleaning up the mess from the battle. The airship landed at the Beacon airstrip and were surprised to see Professor Goodwitch waiting for them with a relieved look on her face replacing the strict look on the face she usually had.

The group made it out of the airship, with Rock being able to walk again and met up with Professor Goodwitch who said "Please follow me, Professor Ozpin would like to talk with you in his office. As for Doctor Cossack and Doctor Lalinde, please make your way to the the teachers housing quarters. We already arranged some living quarters for you. Doctor Polendina, Penny, Proto, Roll and Auto please make your way to the lab."

The two doctors nodded, as did doctor Polendina's group and each group went towards a different direction while the main group made their way to Beacon Tower. Once they got there they entered the elevator. Once the elevator made its way to Ozpin's office, they exited it and were met with Ozpin sitting alone in his office.

"I'm glad to see all of you here safe and sound, and it even seems that you have made some friends." Said Ozpin.

"Uhm, professor? Where are our family members?" Asked Ruby.

"Infirmary." Replied Ozpin, who then noticed the shocked look on the faces of the people in his office and added "Nothing major, just some small injuries. Though a large portion of the student body is also there. Now, who wants to tell me what happened?"

"I can do that." Said Mewtwo, as his eyes flashed a purple colour and everything that happened was put into Ozpin's mind. But Mewtwo felt a hint of suspicion when the amount of information learned by Ozpin didn't seem to faze the professor, but he decided to not bring it up.

After taking in all the information Ozpin said "That is quite an experience, Miss Rose are you feeling alright? Having your aura drained, dying and then coming back to life is quite an experience."

"I'm feeling fine for now." Said Ruby.

"That's good to hear, just know that if any of you have any issues any issues whatsoever you make an appointment with Professor Peach. That also goes for you Mr Arc and Miss Nikos, you have been away from Beacon longer than Team R_WBY." Said Ozpin.

"Yes Professor." Said Jaune.

"Thank you sir." Said Pyrrha.

"As for what happened to those other worlds, will you be ok?" Asked Ozpin.

"We'll be fine, I'm sure we'll be able to get those worlds back." Said Mewtwo, who then added "One second, I just sensed something. I'll be right back." After which he teleported out of the room, and then a few seconds later he came back while holding onto Snake, Olimar, the dog and duck, Shulk, Rex, Pyra and Mythra. After teleporting in he put them down.

Snake groaned in annoyance and said "Mewtwo, where did you even come from. And where are we?"

"Look around." Said Mewtwo.

Snake turned around and saw who was standing in front of him, he smirked and said "It's good to see you guys again."

Jaune upon seeing the group turned to Pyrrha and said "The person dressed in red kind of looks like you."

"You mean the one with the red hair?" Asked Pyrrha, who then took a look at Pyra and whispered "You're right, she does kind of look like me."

"You know, getting a closer look I also think that we look similar." Said Pyra, who had teleported behind them. Causing them to yell out in surprise "Oops, did I scare you?"

"Don't do that!" Exclaimed Jaune.

Pyra giggled and replied "Sorry, but it's not nice to talk about people behind their backs you know."

"Ah come on Pyra, that's not very nice." Said Rex, which Pyra just waved off.

"So tell me, do you also control fire?" Asked Pyra.

"No, just magnetism." Replied Pyrrha.

"Oh that's cool too." Said Pyra.

While that group got aquatinted with each other Sonic looked over at Olimar's pikmin and saw that some of them were a weird black colour with red eyes. "Olimar, what are those weird looking Pikmin that you have with you?" He asked.

"Oh those, that's just what happens when I put those black creatures from the forest into the flying onions. They turn into that and they are really strong actually." Said Olimar.

"Wait, you can control them?" Asked Ozpin, with a hint of surprise in his voice.

"Yeah, I can. They are a bit more aggressive compared to my normal Pikmin. But I can get them to listen, they also tend to use their claws." Replied Olimar.

"Hmm, very interesting." Said Ozpin.

Later

A little while later, after everyone had gotten properly acquainted with each other the group from the mansion had gotten ready to leave. With Mewtwo being the one left in charge with the affairs of the mansion until someone more fit to lead would return to the mansion. Another agreement was that at a later date a proper tour would be given, and that people who wanted to could train at the mansion.

The group got ready to leave, but then Snake turned to Mewtwo and said with a soft tone in his voice "I'm going to stay here for a bit, there is some stuff I need to get done." To which Mewtwo nodded, after which the two groups waved each other goodbye and then Mewtwo teleported the mansion group out of Ozpin's office.

With the room being a lot more empty, Snake turned to Rock and said "I have something for you, something I promised to return to you when you would return." After which he pulled out the disk drive that contained the weapon data of all the robot masters Rock had beaten up to this point.

"Thank you for that Snake." Said Rock, as he hugged Snake who gave him a head-pat.

After Rock let go of Snake, Ozpin chimed in and said "Now if you could all leave this office, and either go to the infirmary or get repaired that would be great. Cause I feel that Mr Snake would like to have a word with me. Also, I'd like to get a full explanation on what happened tomorrow after everyone has rested."

The smaller group nodded and went to the elevator, and after the elevator had made its way to ground level and the group had stepped out Rock turned to his teammates and said "I'll be going to the lab to get fully repaired, I should be in the room before nightfall. And I promise you all, I won't be leaving you guys anytime soon."

"Just promise to stay safe, ok?" Asked Ruby, as she gave Rock a massive hug. After releasing Rock from the hug the two groups went their separate ways, while at the top of Beacon tower Snake and Ozpin were left alone.

"So tell me Mr Snake, why did you really stay behind. You could have given his weapons back to him at any moment." Said Ozpin.

"Because I know what... or rather who you really are, Ozma." Said Snake.

"Hmm, and how do you know about that?" Asked Ozpin.

"Because I've lived through this exact situation before, weird stuff happening in Vale before the Vytal festival, the Breach, the white fang I know what's going to happen. Cause I have seen it all before. See I told Mega Man that I suddenly found myself in this world, but I didn't bother to tell him what had led me to this Remnant." Said Snake.

"So you know what has happened, care to tell me what happens after that?" Asked Ozpin.

"I'm not telling you anything, other than the fact that you lose. Salem gets the relics, the gods destroy everything and you lose. All because you couldn't trust your allies with the truth. But somehow, despite that Remnant getting destroyed I got pulled into this Remnant with the memories of what had happened." Said Snake

"Why tell me any of this?" Asked Ozpin.

"As a warning, if you keep going with the path you are taking. You. Will. Loose." Said Snake, as he walked to the elevator but before entering he turned to Ozpin and said "Oh and one more thing, if you send any of those kids off to be slaughtered like cattle I know where to find you. Doesn't matter how many times you reincarnate."

After which he entered the elevator, leaving Ozpin alone to think about what he had been told.

At Doctor Lights Lab

Doctor Light and Rock had made their way to Doctor Lights lab located on the Beacon school grounds, and once they had gone inside Rock was immediately tackled to the ground by Rush, Beat and Tango who were very happy to see their owner again. And as Rush licked Rock's face, the young robot let out a laugh and said "Guys, please not the face."

Rush made a small whimpering sound, to which Rock replied "I missed you guys too, but I don't like being licked in the face." It was then that Beat, Tango and Rush sat down next to Rock and he was able to properly hug his pets again. However the moment was interrupted when Proto man let out a loud cough to catch the attention of his younger brother. Rock saw that Proto had a stern look on his face through the glasses his brother was wearing.

So Rock motioned for his pets to move out of the way, and then he stood up to face Proto who took off his helmet and glasses. After which he smacked Rock on the head and exclaimed "What were you thinking!"

Rock grabbed his head from getting it smacked, and replied "Ow, Blues why did you..."

"No, none of that 'why did you?' I want to know what were you thinking. Giving yourself up like that!" Yelled Proto Man, with an angry tone in his voice.

"I had no other choice, my teammates had barely any energy left and we're risking their own lives to stand up to Ironwood. I had to do something, I couldn't... I couldn't just let them get hurt." Replied Rock.

"I get that you didn't want your allies to get hurt, but I think that you should have gotten out of there the moment the general arrived. It would have saved everyone a lot of trouble." Said Proto Man.

"Are you mad at me for what I did?" Asked Rock.

Proto sighed for a bit and replied "No, just disappointed that it happened and a little upset about what happened to you. Getting torn apart, nearly dying at the hands of a madman and then nearly getting everything else erased by an electromagnetic pulse. Look, I'm just happy that you're ok but that doesn't mean that I'm not a little disappointed with you." After saying that Proto gave a pat on the back to Rock, as a sign of good faith between the two brothers.

Rock was then hugged by Roll who said "I missed you, I'm glad you're ok. I kind of took your place for a small bit while you were gone, I hope that's not too much of a problem."

"It's fine, I'm sure you did great as a temporary teammate." Said Rock.

"Trust me, I kicked butt with my weapon." Said Roll, as she let go of Rock and pointed to the corner of the lab to show him her weaponised broom.

"It's nice to see dad making a weapon for you that you can use for self defence." Said Rock.

"It is." Said Roll, who then thought for a bit and then added "I forgot to mention, while with your team I noticed that they really missed you. So maybe it's a good idea if you talked to them about what had happened, it might make the relationship between you and your team better."

"I think I'll do that, thanks for the advice." Said Rock, who then came face to face with Penny. So he said "Uhm, hi, I don't think we've properly before this point. I mean at the docks I was barely conscious. So, it's nice to meet you."

Rock held out his hand to get a proper introduction started, but was surprised when Penny gave him a hug and said "It's nice to meet you too, big brother Rock."

Hearing Penny call him that surprised Rock, so he replied "Wait, big brother Rock? Since when?"

"She sees us as her siblings due to being partly being created by dad, just roll with it." Said Proto.

"You don't want to my big brother?" Asked Penny, with some slight confusion on her face.

"No no no no, it's not that. It just surprised me, that's all. I'd love to be your brother." Replied Rock.

"Great!" Exclaimed Penny, as she began to hug him tighter.

Doctor Polendina saw this and said "Darling, could you let him go please? He is already somewhat broken due to what happened. It would be unfortunate if he were to be damaged even more due to your immense strength."

Penny heard this and immediately put Rock on the repair table, after which she said "Sorry dad, are you in any distress big brother?"

"No I'm fine, and you don't have to say big brother every time you speak to me. Just Rock is fine." Said Rock.

"I'll update my memory banks." Said Penny.

"Now, I think that with everyone saying what they wanted to say. I think that it's time to get to the repairs." Said Doctor Light.

"Sounds like a plan dad." Said Rock, when then laid himself down onto the repair table.

"Good, then let's start making the repairs." Said Doctor Light, as he and Doctor Polendina grabbed their tools and began to work on fixing up Rock. All the while Roll, Proto and Penny watched over their sibling.

At the Beacon Infirmary

Team R_WBY along with Pyrrha and Jaune had made their way to the infirmary of the school, and once they opened the door they were surprised to see how many people had gotten injured. As one the left of the room they saw that members of Team SSSN, Team CFVY, Nora and Ren and a bunch of other students wrapped in bandages. While on the right side of the room they saw Ironwood with bandages around his neck, the Ace ops with various bandages, Tai with a cast around his arm, Qrow with some wrapping around his torso, winter who had some stitches in her arms and a bunch of other people.

When they went inside all eyes were aimed at them, everyone had looks off relief on their faces and so the group went to the different nursing stations in the room to get patched up.

And so a bit later, all of them were being patched up by the nurses while talking to their friends and family. "I'm glad you're safe sister." Said Winter, as some of the bruised ribs that Weiss had were being patched up.

"Sorry I couldn't uphold your expectations." Said Weiss, as she slightly winced from the cold ice that was being put on her ribs to alleviate the pain.

Winter got a look of shock on her face and replied "I'm not mad at you, nor am I disappointed. Whoever took you, was able to turn the general into a mindless puppet. I'm proud of you sister, for being able to make it out of there with your team."

"Thanks, a lot of stuff happened while we were there..." Said Weiss, who then let out a yawn.

"You can tell me all about it tomorrow after you have rested." Said Winter, who started to play with Weiss's hair for a bit. Making Weiss feel relaxed for a bit, and reminding the two sisters of their childhood.

With the Xiao Long/Rose/Branwen family, Ruby and Yang were catching up with Tai and Qrow over what had happened. "So, how did you break your arm?" Asked Ruby, as a nurse was properly stitching up the cut that Ruby had on her upper leg.

"Put too much energy into a punch and that caused it to break." Said Tai, who then asked "You called us, but then the line broke. What happened?"

"Yeah, you had us really worried there for a second." Added Qrow, who then got an annoyed look on his face from feeling his bruised ribs.

Ruby got a look of guilt on her face and replied "He managed to catch me because I was too focused on warning you guys, and then he drained me of all my aura."

"Then what happened?" Asked Tai.

"Ruby died for a bit." Said Yang, causing Tai and Qrow to get shocked looks on their faces.

"You died!" Exclaimed both Tai and Qrow.

"I did." Replied Ruby, with a somber tone in her voice as a few tears started to roll down her face. "I felt in pain for several seconds, but then I felt at peace."

"But how are you here? You can't live without aura." Said Tai.

"Mom send me back." Replied Ruby.

"Wait, you saw Summer?" Asked Tai, to which Ruby nodded. Causing both Tai and Qrow to start showing tears on their faces, which they tried to hold back but that didn't work.

"I did, we spend what felt like an entire day together. I was a child again, no worries, baking cookies with her, her telling stories of brave heroes vanquishing evil, a walk around the park with her, her singing me a lullaby." Said Ruby.

"But, you're here now. So what happened?" Asked Qrow.

"She gave me two choices, either stay with her and watch over you three or go back to the land of the living. And I think we know what choice I made." Said Ruby, with a somber tone in her voice and a saddened look on her face.

Yang sighed and added "I nearly gave into my inner darkness over Ruby's death." After which she winced from the stitches going into the cuts on her arms.

"Are you both... going to be ok?" Asked Tai.

"I think so, we have each other to rely on as a team and there is even Professor Peach to talk to in the case that we need it." Said Yang.

"Also, I have something to remember mom with." Said Ruby, who got some questioning looks from Tai and Qrow so she added "Before I left she told me that she loved me and that she was proud of me, and after I made my choice she told me to you two that she was proud of you two and that she loved you two very much."

Tai extended his not broken arm and said "You just made my day a lot better, bring it in you two." To which Yang and Ruby joined him in a hug, Tai saw that Qrow was looking a bit alone and so he added "You too Qrow, you big softy." Qrow rolled his eyes, and then joined his three family members in the hug.

In the meantime Blake was talking to the members of Team SSSN and Team CFVY, while the nurse was stitching up some of the wounds she had sustained. "So, how did you guys get those injuries?" Asked Blake, who was referring to the fact that all members of Team SSSN were completely covered in bandages.

"Neptune shot me out of the sky.""Sun didn't watch out where he aimed his nunchucks."Said Scarlet and Sage at the same time.

"I underestimated the strength of those Atleisan robots." Said Neptune.

"Come on Blake, you know how we roll. We never did care that much about planning." Said Sun, who was grinning ear to ear making Blake giggle internally.

"They were just being reckless fools." Said Coco, as a cast was being put around her right leg.

"Right, and who was the one with the broken leg again?" Asked Sun.

"He does have a point Coco." Said Velvet.

"Quiet you." Said Coco, with a hint of sarcasm in her voice.

"Just be glad it's temporary." Said Fox.

"Yeah, it could have been much worse." Said Yatsuhashi.

"It kind of did, but they don't need to know that." Thought Blake to herself, as she continued to listen to the banter between the two teams.

In the meantime Team JNPR had reunited, and the nurse was patching the leg wound that Pyrrha had and another one was checking Jaune's vitals to make sure that he hadn't been harmed by the overuse of his semblance in the time that he had been captured.

"I'm glad you two are ok." Said Jaune to Ren and Nora, after which he let out a yawn while the nurse was drawing blood.

"So are we, it wasn't the same without you two." Replied Ren.

"Renny was all alone." Mused Nora.

"Sorry we couldn't help you." Said Pyrrha.

"Don't worry about it, we couldn't have predicted that this was going to happen." Said Ren.

It was then that the same nurse who drew blood for Jaune came by and said "Mr Arc, we already got the results of your blood. You're going to need to take it easy with your semblance for a while, you overexerted yourself quite a bit and if you continue this way you might cause irreparable damage to yourself. You need to give yourself time to rest and recharge the massive pool of aura you used to have."

"Thank you nurse." Replied Jaune, after which the nurse left. Leaving Team JNPR in silence to take in what they had just heard.

"That's... really something, huh." Said Nora.

"I'm sorry about this Jaune." Said Pyrrha.

"Don't be, I don't regret any of that. I kept people alive, and might have even given Ruby enough strength to come back to life. Just because I need to take it easy for now, doesn't mean it's the end of the world." Said Jaune, with a look of hope on his face.

"Maybe, we should all take it easy for a bit." Said Ren.

"Yeah, we all went through a lot these last few weeks. Maybe it's for the best if we all took a few steps back." Said Pyrrha.

"You're right, besides I got to kick butt out there. I even broke a few legs." Said Nora.

"Nora, those were robots." Said Ren.

"And I still broke their legs!" Exclaimed Nora.

Pyrrha then looked over to Jaune and saw that the hoodie on his sweater was missing. So she said "Jaune, what happened to your hoodie?"

Jaune looked at his back and saw that the hoodie of his sweater had indeed gone missing and so he said "I dunno, must have lost it when we were fighting those paladins."

"Maybe we could buy a new one." Said Pyrrha.

Nora heard this and said "Maybe we could make it a group activity."

"These clothes are getting a bit old, maybe we should all get some new clothes." Said Ren.

"Sounds like a good idea, but that's something for tomorrow." Said Jaune, who let out a yawn.

Later

It was later at night and Team R_WBY was in their dorm room in their pyjama's and were enjoying dinner in silence. That was until the silence was broken when Weiss stopped petting Zwei and spoke up "Anyone want to talk about what happened today?"

"What is there to talk about Weiss?" Asked Yang.

"Everything that happened, Ruby dying, you nearly giving into your inner darkness, Blake nearly killing someone, whatever Rock went through." Said Weiss.

"Weiss, why are you talking about this? We're fine, we made it out." Said Blake.

"Cuz I'm worried how this affects us, I don't want our team to be torn apart by what happened. I'm scared." Said Weiss, as tears were starting to form in her eyes.

Ruby, Blake and Yang looked at each other, nodded in agreement after which Ruby replied "Weiss, I don't think that will happen. We're a team, and I doubt what happened today will tear us apart at all."

"Besides, you also went through some stuff right?" Asked Blake.

"Kind of." Replied Weiss.

"How did you deal with that robot?" Asked Yang.

"I remembered that madman or someone else saying that Mewtwo was what controlled the robots and that without him the aura within the robots would get a mind of it's own. So I tried to use that against the robot, see if I could appeal to whatever memories Whitleys aura had of me and I succeeded." Said Weiss.

"See, you went through some bad stuff as well. And just because that happened doesn't mean that our team is going to fall apart." Said Blake.

"Sure about that?" Asked Weiss.

"Absolutely, once you've met us you're not getting rid of us that easily." Joked Yang.

"Surely you can't be making jokes about that?" Asked Weiss.

"Jokes are good Weissy, and don't call me Shirley." Said Yang, causing Weiss to groan in annoyance.

It was then that a knock was heard at them door, Ruby walked over to the door and opened it. Upon opening it she saw Rock standing in the door way in his regular clothes and looking a lot better than he looked several hours earlier.

Ruby gasped and exclaimed "Rock, you're here. You're actually here!" With happiness in her voice.

"I heard that a certain team was looking for a teammate." Joked Rock.

Yang walked over to the door, looked at Rock and said "I don't think you have the right qualifications, see we're looking for a robot to be our teammate. And you seem to be human."

Blake joined them at the door and said "Our teammate was blue, I don't see anything blue with you."

"And our teammate was someone who we could disagree with, but who would always be there for us when we needed him to." Said Weiss.

Rock got a small smile on his face and said "I missed you guys too." After which he entered the room and gave all four of his teammates a hug, after which he was led to a chair to sit on.

"We saved some food for you from dinner." Said Ruby, as she handed him a plate with food on it that consisted of an assortment of vegetables, some sausages and a pudding cup for desert. "Dig in."

"Thanks." Said Rock, who immediately started to eat the food and after a few bites he said "This is so much better than that prison food I was given by that madman, I'll never complain about the food in the cafeteria ever again." After which he continued scarfing down the food, while the rest of his team looked on with happy looks on their faces. Happy to have their entire team reunited and safe at Beacon.

That night

After taking the long way back to the Smash mansion, Snake had made it back inside the mansion without encountering much hesitation from any of the Grimm that normally lurked in the forest. When he got inside he noticed that it was quiet and noted that everyone had most likely gone to bed by now. So he decided to walk through the mansion to clear his mind after what had happened.

That was until he noticed a light on in the lab at the back of the mansion, so he went inside and saw Mewtwo looking at some papers on a nearby desk. So Snake asked "What are you doing?"

Mewtwo turned to face Snake and replied "Hello Snake, I'm looking through some of data that came from the anomaly detector and it's shown me something interesting."

"And what's that?" Asked Snake.

"It's shown me that there have been times that a rift was opened, and sometimes people would fall out of the rift into this universe." Replied Mewtwo.

"Yeah, I already knew about that." Said Snake.

"However, the data that was collected today showed me something new and depending on what happens after this it is either good or worrying." Said Mewtwo.

"What are you talking about?" Asked Snake.

"The data says that rift was kept open for so long and for such intensity that not just people made it through, but also entire worlds." Replied Mewtwo, as he handed Snake the data sheets.

"Entire world's you say, how could that be bad?" Asked Snake, as he looked over the data.

"I don't know if bringing those worlds back, may have caused certain evil to return as well." Replied Mewtwo. "Also, there is a slight possibility that the constant opening and closing of the rift might have lead to portals opening between this realm and the other ones. Could allow for easy travel."

"So, what are we going to do with this knowledge? If what you're saying is true, what should we do then?" Asked Snake.

Mewtwo pulled a small device out of one of the drawers and said "We're going to use this device to see if we can find any of our friends."

"By sending out a signal? You sure that will work?" Asked Snake.

"Yes, I'm sure that it will work. Hopefully, the signal reaches our allies and they'll come to us." Replied Mewtwo, who turned the small device on. The device had a radar, had an antenna on the top if it and was connected to the main computer of the lab. The device then began to send out signals, while Snake and Mewtwo hoped that the signals would be able to reach their missing allies.

And so the signal was send out, not just all over Remnant but also throughout the universe. But they wouldn't know if they were successful with their efforts, at least not for while.

However all throughout the universe the signals had reached its destination, somewhere in the deep darkest parts of space a red ship in the shape of a helmet was floating around with its owner taking a nap. However that owner was woken up by a sound on the ships computer, indicating certain coordinates being given. Somewhere else in space in a large system with several planets a grey space ship was floating around with it's inhabitants being briefed by their commander on the success of their last mission, that was until they got a signal of coordinates being send to them.

Somewhere else on a large race track in space, a man with a blue suit, wearing a red helmet was racing against some of his rivals when he nearly crashed his vehicle due to the coordinates being send to him. And in Remnant a group of four people was camping out in the woods of Mistral when they got the signal on their phones, the group consisted of a boxer, two men wearing a white and red outfit that looked similar to each other and a man with long blond hair, a ripped red jacket and a red sports cap.

Meanwhile

It was the middle of the night at Beacon, and in the dorm room of Team RRWBY all of its members were fast asleep. Almost all of its members, as Rock kept turning and twisting in his bed as the memories of being torn apart and nearly getting everything erased kept replaying in his mind. And it felt like he was trapped in a nightmare for an eternity, that was until he felt a hand gently shaking him awake.

He opened his eyes and was met with Ruby's tired looking silver eyes staring at him, so he asked "Is everything ok Ruby?"

"Can't sleep, been having some nightmares over what happened and I saw that you were also struggling with sleep." Replied Ruby.

"I... I keep seeing myself get torn apart by that madman and then nearly getting everything in my mind erased by Xander." Said Rock.

"Can I sleep in your bed tonight?" Asked Ruby.

Rock got a slight blush on his face, but then was met with another memory of getting torn apart and said "Sure, maybe we can protect each other from the bad memories." He then lifted the covers up, and allowed Ruby to get into the bed with him.

After she got into the bed with him, Rock turned around and his back faced Ruby. Who would then hug him, as she mumbled "Goodnight Rock."

"Goodnight Ruby." Replied Rock, as the two would then fall asleep while holding onto each other and protecting each other from the nightmares.

A/N: Welp, that chapter is done. Can't believe it got that long, but hey there is nothing that can be done about that.

All that I can say about this is that it's the end of the story of volume 3, and I'll share some of my experiences and opinions on everything written for this volume at the end of the intermission. Which I can already say, is going to be two parts, cause it has a lot of stuff in it. It will serve as a way to resolve certain things that were left unresolved in this chapter, get the characters to wind down after everything that happened and to set up the stuff for the story arc of volume 4. So yeah, a lot of stuff to look forward to.
