Chapter 38

With his battle against Astrid being interrupted by a call to destiny, so to speak, Hiccup races down the stairs leading to the watery path leading out of Sootopolis City. Once there, he has Astrid take him on her Milotic to a cave located in the very back of the stone wall that surrounds the city known as the Cave of Origin.

Astrid had Milotic go back to transport Fishlegs, Snotlout and the twins as Hiccup rushes inside.

Once in the cave, Hiccup is immediately hit by a wave of heat, similar to the wave he experienced on Mt. Chimney but a bit more intense, but then he also felt an odd cooling sensation mixed into it. Hiccup didn't have much time to think about that as he rushes down the several stairs leading through the cave.

The cave isn't that large, so it didn't take long for him to reach the bottom which was a platform sitting in front of a divided pool with molten lava on the right side and water on the left.

Inside the lava pool was a big, red, sleeping Pokémon with large claws, a hunched back and a tail with long, sharp blades on the end. In the water was a blue whale-like Pokémon that was also sleeping and had propellers inside its upper fins and a U shaped tail.

Standing in front of the two giants were the two people that Hiccup knew he was about to see, one being a white haired man wearing red clothes and one a large, curly haired man wearing a blue bandana and no shirt. "YOU!" Hiccup yells out.

The men smirk and turn to face Hiccup. "Hiccup! We knew you'd be here to witness the show." Grimmel says.

Drago adds as Astrid and the others make it down. "Suppose an event like this needs a suitable audience. You kids will do just fine."

Fishlegs then notices the two Pokémon in the room. "Holy…hell. Isn't that…?"

Grimmel and Drago nod. Grimmel replies, "It is indeed, my chubby friend." He gestures to the red Pokémon. "Groudon, the creator of the land."

Drago adds while gesturing to the blue Pokémon. "And Kyogre, the creator of the sea."

Grimmel adds, "Both of these extraordinary Pokémon have been peacefully sleeping for centuries in order to 'preserve peace'" he made air quotes with those last two words. "but now, it is time for them to awaken and show their true power." He holds up a red orb with an Omega symbol in the center while Drago holds up a blue orb with an Alpha symbol on it.

Hiccup comments. "The red and blue orbs from Mt. Pyre, so that's the key to waking Kyogre and Groudon. That's why you were so keen on getting them."

They both nod as Grimmel says, "Getting these orbs was the easy part, the hard part was using the minerals inside the hardened magma from Mt. Chimney and cross referencing that to areas around Hoenn to find these two Pokémon, but it will be worth it."

Drago adds, "You kids are too late. However, I suppose we could have a bit of fun before the end of the world commences." they both hold up Pokéballs.

Hiccup was a bit nervous about battling now since he had just come off of the battle against Astrid and 4 out of 6 of his Pokémon were tired and he hadn't had a chance to heal at a Pokémon Center. But, he knew he had to try so he holds up a Pokéball as well and was about to throw when a voice calls from behind him. "Stop!"

They look behind them and see the same chunky guy in red and black haired girl in blue they encountered at the Weather Institute. "Tabitha? Shelly? What are you two doing here?" Grimmel asks.

Tabitha replies, "Grimmel, Drago, you guys are making a mistake!"

Shelly adds, "Tabitha is right. We ran through some numbers that we took from the weather institute and what we found is not good. The world that you two want and the world that Kyogre and Groudon could create upon awakening are not the same thing."

Tabitha adds, "Kyogre and Groudon aren't simply going to listen to the two of you if you awaken them, even if you do happen to have the orbs. All they're going to do is revert back to their primal forms and cause mindless destruction."

Hiccup asks, "I'm sorry, primal forms?"

Shelly replies, "Kyogre and Groudon were once responsible for near worldwide destruction, destruction that was stopped by the legendary Rayquaza who halted their power and concentrated it into red and blue orbs, causing them to look like they do now."

Tabitha adds, "So if they are awakened by the red and blue orbs, then that power will come back to them and they will continue that path of destruction. Rising sea levels, fierce storms, magma erupting from just about everywhere, cracking land, you name it. You two have to listen to us."

Drago asks, "What is this? I thought you two were loyal to us!"

Shelly begs. "Please, Lord Drago. Please, Grimmel. We have been loyal up to this point, but this information is all too true. You have to believe us!"

They have a stare down for a moment before Grimmel and Drago look down to the orbs in their hands. They both consider this possibility for a good moment and for a moment it did seem like they were going to stop this, that is until Grimmel says, "We can't stop. We have worked too hard to get here and we are not backing down."

Drago adds. "That's right. It's time for Team Magma and Team Aqua to make their mark in this world."

"NOOOOOOOOO!" Everyone yells out as Grimmel and Drago throw their orbs at the respective Pokémon, causing them to glow bright and stay suspended in mid air.

Both Kyogre and Groudon begin to stir a bit as the orbs awaken their senses and causes power they hadn't felt in a long time to surge through them, causing any cracks and lines throughout their body to glow with the power emitting from inside.

"Yes, YES!" Grimmel yells.

Groudon moves forward to places its hands on the platform while Kyogre's propellers fire up. Suddenly, the walls begin to shake around them and the magma in Groudon's pool and the water in Kyogre's begin to stir. Finally, both Pokémon open their eyes and let out a roar that could make any eardrums explode.

Drago step forward and says, "Kyogre! You beautiful beast! Come to me, show me your power!"

Grimmel adds, "Yes, you too Groudon. Now, first thing to do…" he and Drago point Hiccup and the others. "Take out those meddling kids and the traitors!"

However, instead of doing that, Kyogre and Groudon grab onto their orbs and the orbs fade into their bodies, causing them to gain even more power as they step away from the platform.

Seeing as how Hiccup and the others aren't taken care of yet, Drago looks back and asks, "What's taking so long?"

Just then, Kyogre and Groudon let out an even louder roar directed at Grimmel and Drago. Grimmel steps back and asks, "W-what? What is this? Now you listen to me, I am your leader! Your master!"

The cave walls continue to collapse around them as Shelly suggests, "We have to get out of here."

Hiccup replies, "Couldn't agree more." He tosses a Pokéball and sends out a yellow cat holding two spoons. "Alakazam, we need you to teleport us out of here!"

"Alaaaa!" Everyone including Drago and Grimmel hold onto Alakazam as it takes them out of the cave and onto an island in Route 127.

Back inside the cave, Kyogre and Groudon sink into their pools and make their way outside of the world where the destruction was already in full force.

All across the region, a mix of torrential rain, huge waves, magma ejecting from the ground, harsh earthquakes, and even an unusually bright sun.

In the seas near Dewford Town, Gobber was just drifting along in his boat when the waves started hitting. He yells to his Wingull, "Hold on, Pecko!" He then realizes, "Wait, you can fly, why aren't you leaving."

"Gull!" The white seagull replies.

Gobber gets a tear in his eyes. "You wanted to make sure I'm ok! Oh, Pecko, I am more than touched!" He holds the Pokémon tight.

Back in Littleroot Town, Valka was watching on the TV when the storms began and an orange haired female news reporter comes on. "We interrupt this program to bring you this breaking news bulletin. Reports of torrential rain, massive storms and even sunlight are being reported all across the Hoenn region. Storms that can even be seen over in the Johto, West Kanto and Orre regions and seem to be only increasing in size and destructive power as the minutes go by."

Valka comments. "Oh no! I hope Hiccup is ok."

The reporter adds, "I'm getting a new report that the strange weather is being caused by the unexpected awakening of the legendary Pokémon Kyogre and Groudon. Whether or now this means the end of days for us is uncertain, more on this story as it develops. I'm Atali Wingmaid, Channel 7 news."

In the seas surrounding Sootopolis, Kyogre and Groudon had already begun a battle against each other. Groudon perches itself on a platform of land that it creates as it walks while slamming down on the ground while Kyogre leaps out of the water to deliver attacks.

Groudon makes a move where it sends a bunch of sharp blades of rock upwards and Kyogre counters this by making a ring of 5 dots of water surround it that it fires at Groudon.

Both of their minds were completely engulfed into the battle, not making any mind as to what they are actually doing.

On the island that Hiccup's Alakazam took them to, a helicopter flies down holding Steven, Mala and Scott that they leap off once close enough. "Steven! Mala! Scott!" Hiccup says.

Steven replies, "I wish I could be here on better terms. I can see that Kyogre and Groudon are awake, question is, who's responsible for this?"

Snotlout gestures to Drago and Grimmel. "Why don't you ask them?"

Mala sees them and says, "You! I should have you both fed to the Sharpedo for what you've done!"

Grimmel gestures to Drago and says, "It's all his fault. We could've been just fine with having Groudon wake up but nooo, you just had to have Kyogre up too. I knew I shouldn't have teamed up with you."

Drago raises a brow. "Me? What about you? Flooding the world with Kyogre's strength was a good enough of a plan!"

"Why I oughta!" Grimmel says.

Astrid steps in and says, "Both of you are at fault here. Question is, what can we do to stop it?"

Fishlegs replies, "Uh, what CAN we do? Groudon and Kyogre are extremely powerful Pokémon, even with all of our Pokémon combined, there's no way we can take them down."

Mala replies, "Well, that's actually where Hiccup comes in."

The rest of the gang look to Hiccup in shock and confusion. "Hiccup?" Tuffnut asks, "Uh, what exactly can he do to stop all of this."

Mala sighs. "We've been meaning to show you all this. It's an image of the painting taken from the Slateport museum." she holds up a painting with Kyogre and Groudon battling it out at the bottom. "This is an ancient image made centuries ago and resurrected recently, it is of Kyogre and Groudon having a full on battle, like they are now. Now, have a look here."

She zooms in towards the top and shows an medium length, auburn haired boy holding his hand up in front of a big, green serpent Pokémon. "Th-that's…!" Fishlegs says.

"…Me!" Hiccup adds.

Mala nods. "Legend has it that one day Kyogre and Groudon would awaken again, so to help stop the spread of destruction, an ordinary boy from a world parallel to our own would be sent in by Arceus to help bring peace with the help of the legendary guardian of the sky, Rayquaza. You, Hiccup, you are that boy."

Hiccup looks to the rest of the gang who still had looks of confusion, except for Astrid, so he sighs and says, "It's true. I am not from this world at all. I was brought here by Arceus with a quest to help save this world from destruction."

The looks go from confusion to total shock. "Y-you aren't from here? From our world?" Fishlegs asks.

"Whoa, how does that even work?" Ruffnut asks.

Snotlout then asks, "Are you the only one from your world that's over here?"

Hiccup shakes his head. "No, most of you all exist in my world but as different people. You guys…" he gestures to the gang. "are my friends, but instead of training Pokémon, we train dragons. Big, fire breathing, flying dragons that are as unique as the dragon Pokémon that exist here." he looks to Mala. "You are the queen of an island that worships dragons and lives to protect them." He then looks to Drago and Grimmel, "And you two hunt dragons and enslave them to your will to create chaos, guess not much has changed."

Mala then says, "Then the rumor is true. You are the chosen one, Hiccup."

Steven then says, "First, we'll have to go to the Sky Pillar, an old temple just North of Pacifidlog Town. Problem is that in order to get there we'd have to travel either by sea or air, and these conditions are just too powerful for any normal flying Pokémon."

They all sit and wonder just what they can do, when suddenly Astrid points out something. "Hiccup!"

He looks down and sees one of his Pokéballs glowing white. He picks it up and comments, "Huh, it's my Shelgon's Pokéball. Wonder why it's glowing like this. Any ideas?"

Steven replies, "I…have never seen this before."

The glowing continues for about 30 seconds before fading and revealing a ball that has turned completely black. "What the?" Hiccup asks. "What does this mean?" he asks as he opens the ball and sends out the Pokémon inside.

In a flash of light, comes a dragon Pokémon with half-moon shaped wings, but rather than being the blue and red color that they've seen before, this Pokémon revealed to be completely black from the top of its head to the tip of its tail. Every single corner of this Pokémon was black, except for its glowing green eyes and a red stripe that ran along the rim of its left wing.

"I-it evolved into a Salamence!" Steven comments. "But not like one I've ever seen before!"

Mala comments. "A black Salamence? But, how is that even possible? I once saw a green Salamence but never black."

Hiccup steps closer and stares into the eyes of the black dragon in front of him. He holds his hand up to caress its chin as he sees his reflection in his eyes. Hiccup suddenly knew exactly what this was and replies, "This is a gift…from Arceus. He knows that Salamence can be used to help me get to the Sky Pillar and find Rayquaza."

Mala smiles and nods. Scott then holds up a briefcase saying, "You might need this." He opens it, revealing a green orb. "This is the Jade orb, it is said to give power to Rayquaza much like blue or red orb to Kyogre or Groudon."

Hiccup takes the orb and says, "Right."

He climbs onto Salamence's back and Mala follows. "I've done research on the Sky Pillar and have a general idea as to where it is." Mala explains.

Hiccup nods. "You're welcome aboard."

Tuffnut then asks, "Wait, so you're going off to find Rayquaza while we all stay here?"

Ruffnut adds, "Hate to agree, but he's right. What are we supposed to do?"

Hiccup looks to the gang and replies, "Oh, don't worry, you guys are Gym Leaders. You should know what to do." With that, he pats Salamence on the neck, it spreads its black wings and takes off towards the West en route to the Sky Pillar.

Yep, black Salamence. Wonder if that, maybe, relates to anything.
