Chapter 38- Interrogating Carly

"That's a big jump," John said outside of Kelly's as Mac spoke to a blonde, teenaged girl outside. "Only a month ago you hated her and now you love her."

Skye turned away from him to avoid eye contact. "I—I didn't say that."

"Yes, you did."

"Don't twist my words!"

"You thought you hated her, but now that you know her you love her. You should tell Rae. It would mean everything to her."

"Uncle Stuart is the only person that I have ever really loved," Skye insisted. "He's the only person that has ever understood me. And it was never his fault that he wasn't always there for me. He can't travel on his own, but he at least called when I was in jail—"

"It wasn't Rae's fault either," John said. "She wanted to be there for you. And since she's found you, she's been there for you."

"Look just…" Skye groaned and rubbed her temples. "Just stop talking before I say more things that Grandmother is going to make me apologize again for."

John sighed. "You have no reason to fear these feelings you're having, Skye."

"John, please… stop."

"You said your Uncle Stuart is the only person you ever loved, but when you were in jail you told me that you loved Max."

Skye laughed. "I thought I did. But he really believed that I could shoot him. He didn't know me at all."

"He let you down."

Skye's eyes welled with tears. "Yeah, just like Will and Tom and Ben… and Daddy."

"Is that why you're afraid to love again?" John asked. "Or should I say admit that you love someone else? That if you open yourself up to that you'll be let down again?"

"Look, just shut up! Please, just shut up!"

John nodded. "All right… so, why are you here if you think Rae is missing?"

She turned back to him. "I'm going to find the person that has been threatening me and my family if it's the last thing I do."

John raised an eyebrow. "And you're planning to do this alone with no help or police back-up?"

She shrugged. "Well, AJ is helping me… sort of."

"Helping you, how?"

"He brought me here so I can confront Carly."

"You believe Carly abducted Colby Chandler and Lila Quartermaine, and burnt down Myrtle's house?" John asked.

"I don't know!" Skye threw her hands in the air. "I don't know! But it has to be someone who can't stand me. And yes, I know… just like Erica said, that list is long. But Carly was threatening me after I dated Lorenzo and she sent me those texts just the day before I got locked in the boathouse. So, I'm starting with her."

He nodded. "That's why we're here too. One of the Quartermaine maids came forward and said they saw Carly on the grounds the day you were thrown into the boathouse."

Skye stepped closer to him. "Then we can work together. You can put a bug on me just like before with Todd and Blair. I'll just go in and act like I'm just there to visit AJ and Michael and I will try to get something out of her. We can catch her."

He shook his head. "Your mother will kill me. She wasn't pleased at all when she found out I let you help before."

"What? Why?"

"She felt I was using you for a police investigation, and she also thought I was putting you in danger."

"But I was fine," Skye said. "I could handle Todd and I can handle Carly. AJ will be there. A room full of people will be there. And you'll be on the sidelines listening in. What could go wrong?"

"Even if nothing goes wrong, Rae will never forgive me."

She scoffed. "She forgives everything. But if we don't catch who did this and find where they took her, then she won't even have the chance to forgive you!"

"We still don't even know if she's been taken," John said.

"Look, I will be fine. And she doesn't even have to know."

"I don't keep things from her, especially regarding you."

"Okay, just blame it on me," Skye said. "I'm a grown woman—"

"That's debatable."

"I can consent to helping with police work if I want to. I don't need my mommy's permission."

John rubbed his chin.

"We were so close to pinning Todd and Blair against each other before," Skye said. "If anything, my mother will be glad to see us working together as a team instead of fighting. That's what I can be to you… your junior detective. And I'll be good at it."

He groaned and paused in thought for a moment. "All right. You can help with Carly. But that's it. If there's even the slightest sign of any danger, I'm pulling you out. And you have to do everything I say."

She smiled and nodded.

After Mac finished speaking to the teenaged girl, whom Skye caught was called Maxie, he and John set up Skye's microphone and ear bud that she placed under her shirt and behind her ear. Skye took a deep breath and entered Kelly's.

"Auntie Skye!" Michael jumped up from his seat and ran over to hug her. "Come eat with us."

He dragged her over to their table where Carly crossed her arms and looked less than pleased.

"Hey, Skye," AJ said. "Want to join us?"

"Yes." Skye sat between AJ and Carly and grinned at Carly. "Don't mind if I do."

Carly scowled at her and looked in the other direction.

"Gee Michael," Skye said. "Seems like your mommy woke up on the wrong side of the bed today."

"Daddy, I gotta pee," Michael said.

"All right, bud." AJ took his hand. "Let's leave Mommy and Auntie to talk."

Skye watched over her shoulder to ensure AJ had Michael out of ear shot, then turned to Carly.

"Okay, Skye," John's voice said into her ear. "I want you to start by asking—"

"Where the hell did you take my mother?" Skye blurted out and she heard John groan.

Carly scrunched her face. "Excuse me?"

"Skye—" John tried to cut in.

Skye balled her hands into fists. "All because I go on a couple lousy dates with the man you're seeing, you target my family!?"

"Skye," John repeated. "Just ask her questions about her text messages…"

"But not only are you hurting me, you're hurting your own son!" Skye continued. "He adores his great-grandmother. And while you were busy chasing mobsters, Lila was the one reading him bedtime stories and singing him to sleep at night!"

"Skye, you need to stop, right now," John said.

"Listen, lady, you have no business interrupting my visit with my son to throw groundless accusations at me!" Carly pursed her lips. "Why would I waste my time kidnapping your family members? The only service I'd be doing to the world is taking you out to rid your family of you!"

"Oh, is that a confession?" Skye asked. "You're the one who locked me in the boathouse, aren't you? Aren't you?"

Carly leaned over the table closer to Skye and whispered. "Am I?"

Skye clenched her jaw. "You did it. You tried to kill me!"

"Oh, relax. I didn't try to kill you. I was teaching you a lesson. No one goes after my man. But what are you going to do about it? It's your word against mine."

"Skye, you're doing good," John said. "Ask her about the anonymous phone calls and letter you were getting."

"So, it was you," Skye said. "And you sent me that letter. And those threatening phone calls!"

Carly scrunched her face. "I did not. I figured hypothermia would be enough to keep you away from Lorenzo. You paid your dues. Why would I waste another breath on you?"

"The letter I got specifically said that Lorenzo was paying for what I deserve… it's obvious that you're responsible for all of this. You sent me threatening texts, you locked me in the boathouse, you sent a threatening letter and phone calls, you kidnapped Colby and Grandmother Q, then you set fire to Grandma Myrtle's house, and now you've taken my mom!"

"I did not."

"Oh yes you did. And you're not getting away with it either."

Carly rose to her feet. "I'm leaving. Tell Michael I will call him tonight to say goodnight."

"Yes, you are leaving, Carly," Mac said as he walked in with John. "You will be leaving with me to go down to the PCPD."

Carly gawked at him. "Why?"

Skye lifted the microphone from her shirt and grinned at her.

Carly's face paled.

"I know your son is in the bathroom," Mac said. "So, I hope you will come outside with me calmly so I can cuff you without upsetting your son."

"Cuff me?"

Mac nodded. "Carly Corinthos, you are under arrest for the attempted murder of Skye Chandler after a recorded confession. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law…"

Skye smirked at her.

"You have the right to an attorney," Mac said. "And once we're at the station we're going to ask you questions regarding the disappearances of Colby Chandler and Lila Quartermaine, as well as the arson at Myrtle Fargate's home. Now, will you come outside calmly and rationally or are you going to cause a scene in which your son could walk in on?"

Carly glared at Skye and gritted her teeth. "I will come calmly."

Skye made to follow after Mac and Carly, but John grabbed her arm. "You did good today, Skye. Not the way I would have done it, but you got one thing out of her."

"I want to go down to the PCPD with them to find out where she took Mom!"

"We don't know that she took her or if she's behind everything. All we know is that she locked you in the boathouse. But thanks to you the police can now question her about all of it. We need to leave it in their hands now."

"But my family is still missing," Skye said. "We need to find them."

"How about I take you home," John said. "Your mom would want me to. We still don't know that she's missing. What if she's back home and worried about you now? Why don't you call her?"

"I don't have a cell phone anymore, remember? It's police evidence now."

"You can use mine." He pulled out his phone and turned it on. "Eight missed voice messages from R. Cummings…"

"Yeah… that was us trying to get a hold of you this morning. But you wouldn't answer."

He pressed his phone to his ear.

Skye sighed. "Come on… we need to find her."

A few minutes later, John put it on speaker phone and held it between them.

"…I'm perfectly fine," Rae's voice came through. "I mean, a little emotional, but I'm fine. Mama said Skye is worried about me and went to find the person threatening her. We can't let her go at this alone. Please call me back as soon as you get this. I'm worried about her."

Skye's face lit up.

"See, Skye?" John said. "Your mother's fine. Now, I'm taking you home."
