A Knight's Christmas

Chapter 14

"Are you sure Devon won't get mad?" RC opened the door to the mansion for Michael who was carrying several pizza boxes inside.

It was already early afternoon, and he and RC were starving. They had helped (or at least tried to help) Bonnie and Devon with the preparations for the banquet. After Michael had broken an ornament, Bonnie had assigned him a less delicate task. RC had started singing Christmas carols and Michael had sung along. This was when Bonnie had thanked them for their help and told them to leave before she'd kick them out of the ballroom. Neither RC nor Michael had wanted to upset Bonnie and had quickly hurried out of the mansion to enjoy the free time.

As Michael knew that Bonnie would be too preoccupied to bother thinking about food, he suggested ordering pizza for all of them.

When they walked into the ballroom, they noticed that as always Bonnie had worked efficiently. She was almost finished with the decorations and the arrangement of the tables. Michael admired her work. Though he barely remembered how the ballroom had looked like the year before, he noticed that this year's decorations would exceed everyone's expectations.

"Wow, Bonnie, it was smart of you to make us leave." RC grinned as he carried the food into the ballroom.

Immediately, Bonnie cast him a stern look which signaled RC that she didn't tolerate any food in the ballroom.

"But we brought you lunch." RC complained and showed her that there was enough pizza to feed the entire staff. "Aren't you hungry at all? I'm starved and Michael here is hungry, too."

She didn't want to be rude, but she knew her boys. There would be pizza sauce everywhere if she allowed them to eat in the ballroom. And she didn't want to start all over again after having spent so much time setting up the tables.

"I am indeed hungry. But I still need to finish a few things." She said quickly and smiled at them. Michael smiled back at her which made her heart beat faster. She hadn't thought that it was possible that any man would ever make her feel so loved. "I'll join you when I'm done. But you can't eat here. The tables are already set up, and I don't want anyone to eat in here before the banquet."

RC nodded. He realized that it wouldn't be wise to upset Bonnie and to insist on eating in the ballroom.

"Take a break, Bonnie." She had worked the entire morning and Michael knew she wouldn't stop until everything was perfect. Which would take more than a few minutes. "You need to eat. You'll be more efficient once you'll have had a bite to eat."

She continued folding a napkin while she thought about Michael's words. The food would be cold and probably be eaten by the time she would finally join them. Besides, there wasn't anything left for her to organize. Taking a break and spending some quality time with Michael and of course with RC as well wouldn't hurt.

"Come on, Bonnie." RC looked at her with big eyes. "It'll be just like in Chicago. You, Michael and me and a deep dish pizza."

"How can I resist the two of you?" Bonnie laughed and glanced back at the ballroom one more time. She'd come back after her break to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything before Devon would inspect the ballroom. She had thought of everything and Devon would be content with her work once he returned from his meeting. "Let's leave before I change my mind."

"No woman can resist my eyes." RC grinned as he and Michael left the room with Bonnie. "See, Michael, women can't say no to me."

"You know, RC, why don't you use your puppy eyes in the kitchen again and ask for some cookies or pie for us?" Michael suggested as they passed the kitchen. He wasn't really craving sweets. It was an attempt to be alone with Bonnie for a few minutes.

As expected, RC's eyes lit up at the mention of cookies. He almost tossed the pizza box at Bonnie and ran into the kitchen.

As soon as he was out of sight, Michael wrapped his arm around Bonnie's waist and pulled her closer. "I knew he wouldn't say no to cookies." He kissed Bonnie's hair lightly. "I'd suggest we'll look for a mistletoe."

"I like your plan." Bonnie laughed and Michael lead her to the living room. They put the pizza on the table before they walked over to the door frame where Michael had hung up a swig of mistletoe. "Finally, I get to kiss the woman I love."

"I like the sound of that." Bonnie mumbled as their lips melted into a passionate kiss. Much to Michael's disappointment, she pulled back too quickly.

"What's wrong?" He whispered as he gasped for air.

"Someone's coming." She pointed to the hallway from where she had heard noises.

"It's just RC. He knows I can't walk by a mistletoe without a kiss. And it's only a coincidence that you just walked in with me." Michael grinned and kissed her again.

Though Bonnie wanted to kiss Michael, she didn't want be caught under a mistletoe with him again. She was still afraid that someone could find out that they were in a relationship. Anyone who saw them sharing a passionate kiss would know that this was not just because of a mistletoe. And even though RC would keep quiet, she didn't want him to be a witness to their kiss.

"Michael, we better …." She began but before she could finish her sentence, the scent of a strong fragrance tickled her nose. Only one woman she knew liked this fragrance. And unless someone from the staff also wore this particular perfume, it could only mean one thing. April Curtis was back.

"Surprise!" Bonnie's guess was confirmed only a few moments later when April, followed by Devon, walked into the living room.

Quickly, Bonnie backed away from Michael, but April's observant eyes hadn't missed that she and Michael had just shared a kiss. "What's going on here? Did I miss anything while I was gone?"

Michael grinned at her and pointed to the doorframe. "Mistletoe."

Devon sighed and cast a stern glance at Michael. "Michael, how many times have I told you to remove all swigs of mistletoe from the mansion?"

"Of course! How could I forget your tradition!" April's face lit up. "For a moment, I thought you and Bonnie had kissed for fun. I should have known better. Really, Michael, why do you waste your time kissing her? She only cares about computers and KITT anyway."

Bonnie felt the anger rise in her. Even though she didn't do it on purpose, April knew how to upset her.

"You don't mind, do ya?" April smiled at Bonnie and squeezed in between her and Michael. "Now, let's show Devon and Bonnie what a real kiss looks like."
