Chapter 39-Cleaning up

Quick note. Connie's writing will be in italic. Enjoy!

Alicia puts a sheet over Travis and stands up. She looks at Morales, who was still by his family. He had stabbed them all in the head to make sure none of them turned. Abraham, Luke, Dean, and JJ were digging graves for the dead. Rick was collecting supplies from the camp that the men who attacked them lived in. He turns around and sees Connie. Connie pulls out her notepad and writes something down. Rick looks at it. "Do you need help?" Rick nods.

"It couldn't hurt," Rick tells her. She nods as she starts to help him grab the supplies and put them in bags. Reid sat with Gideon in the back of the U-Haul.

"Where are Derek, Hotch, Prentiss, and Garcia?" Gideon asks him.

"Hotch and Derek are with the other half of the group," Reid tells him.

"There are more of you?" Gideon asks.

"Yeah, a little over twenty more. We are heading for a house, and the others are circling around Atlanta. Hope they are doing better than us," Reid says.

"What about Prentiss and Garcia?" Gideon asks.

"I don't know. We never found them. JJ, Hotch, Derek, and I got out together," Reid tells him. "We met Daryl after Derek took him and locked him up in a cabin," Gideon chuckles.

"That sounds like him," Gideon says. Gideon goes to his bag and opens it. He pulls out a chessboard. "I brought this from my cabin. Hoping one day I would find you," Reid smiles as he helps Gideon set up. Jake and Victor walked with Martinez and Shumpert as they headed for Martinez's truck.

"Can we carry everything in it?" Victor asks Martinez.

"We should be able to. We brought some of the bags with us," Shumpert tells him.

"Have you guys been together the whole time?" Jake asks them.

"We were part of a community at first. We left the leader was crazy. Haley, Milton, and I left first, and then we met Gideon. Haley was hit when we escaped, and Gideon helped us when the Governor's men came," Martinez says.

"The Governor?" Jake asks.

"He's a prick. Anyway, I was with the Governor's men, and they spared me. We have been on the road a few days now when we saw Kelly, and then we found you," Shumpert tells them. Jake and Victor nod as they walk through the woods. Jim walks over to Morales and bends down by the man.

"I know what it's like. To lose your family," Jim says to Morales, who looks at him.

"You watched your family be torn apart by walkers," Morales says.

"And you saw yours be shot to death. At least the men who did it are dead, and your family won't turn. Mine didn't get that chance," Jim says to the man. "It will hurt, and that pain will never go away. Eventually, you learn to live with it," Jim pats Morales's shoulder before he walks away. Daryl and Alicia throw another body on a pile where they were burning the men who had attacked them. He looks over at Kelly and Milton, who were also moving bodies.

"We're bringing them, right?" Alicia asks him. Daryl nods.

"Yeah, more of us may have been dead if it wasn't for them. I just want to know how they survived this long. Milton looked like he was ready to puke when he picked the first body up. I don't think they have been on the road long," Daryl tells her.

"Most of us puked towards the beginning at one point. He just has to get used to being on the road," Alicia says.

"I know, come on," Daryl says as he starts to pick another body up. Hershel looked at Haley's shoulder. He takes the bandage off the wound.

"It is healing well. I just have to clean the bandage," Hershel tells Haley, who nods.

"You were a doctor before all this?" Haley asks.

"Vet," Hershel tells her. "Since the start, I have dealt with gunshot wounds, cuts and I'm working with a pregnant woman,"

"Who's pregnant?" Haley asks. Hershel looks around the bus.

"She's not in here. I guess she is with the kids. Lori, the brunette that is usually with the blond Amy," Hershel tells her.

"Is the father dead?" Haley asks.

Hershel shakes his head. "No, Shane is in charge of the other half of the group going around Atlanta," Haley nods. "I hope we find a real doctor at some point. I have no experience with delivering babies,"

"You better start reading. You also have the perfect test dummy's," Haley tells him. "Use the walkers to practice,"

"Not a bad idea," Hershel tells her as he puts a bandage on her wound. "You should be okay. I'll check it tomorrow. Don't put too much strain on it," Haley nods as she stands up. "Send Rosita in," Haley nods as she leaves. Hershel goes over to Dale, who was lying on a seat. "How are you feeling?"

"Better than I did earlier. Can you get me some water?" Dale asks the man. Hershel nods with a smile and walks to the back of the bus as Rosita comes in.

"Sit down, Rosita," Hershel tells the woman, who nods. Hershel grabs a bottle of water and gives it to Dale before he goes over to Rosita. "The second person with a bullet through the shoulder," Hershel tells her as he looks at her shoulder. Amy sat with Lori and the kids. She watched Lizzie as she looked at Morales and his family. Amy stands up and walks over by the blond, and sits down.

"You okay?" Amy asks her.

"They were our friends," Lizzie says. "And those men killed them for no reason,"

"Some people will do what they think is necessary to survive. Killing us is what those men wanted because they could have what we have," Amy tells her.

"They think what they do is right in their eyes," Lori tells the younger girl. She nods. "Come on. Rick could use the help clearing the camp," The kids nod as they follow her into the woods. Morales picks up Eliza and carries her to the grave, and lays her down. He sets out of the grave and goes to grab his son. He sets his son in the grave beside his daughter. Jim comes over when Morales walks over to Miranda.

"Let me help you," Jim says to Morales, who nods. Jim helps him pick up his wife and move him into the grave. Alicia and Daryl move Travis into his grave. They walk away as the graves start to be covered in dirt once again. That night the group sat around a fire on the road. Daryl looks at Jim.

"How are the vehicles?" Daryl asks him.

"The semi and bus look fine. They should make it. The U-haul is what I'm worried about. It might make it, but it might not. I would say 50/50," Jim tells Daryl.

"Great, we leave tomorrow morning," Daryl tells them as she stands up and walks away. The group nods as T-dog stands up and walks over to Daryl, who was watching the woods.

"You okay?" T-dog asks him.

"I'm tired of losing people," Daryl tells him.

"I am too, but hopefully, once we get to the house, we won't lose anybody else," T-dog says. "If everything goes to plan and that U-Haul works. We should get there tomorrow," Daryl nods.

"Get some rest, T-dog," Daryl tells him as he walks away. T-dog walks away. Daryl watches the wood with an Ar in his hands. Alicia comes over and sits by him.

"Are you going to sleep?" She asks him. He shakes his head.

"Making sure nobody else dies. Even if it kills me," Daryl tells her.

"I'll stay with you," She tells him as they watch the woods hoping that tomorrow they would finally reach their new home.

Thanks for reading. The next chapter will either be with Shane's group or Jesus's. I don't know yet, but I have a plan for both. I do have a question would you guys like to see POVs of characters? That focuses on that one character and a few others around them instead of going around them all. People like T-dog, Alicia, and Daryl would get POVs with other characters with them. Tell me what you guys think. And if you guys have any ideas for chapters, that would be fun. Let me know. As always, suggestions, ideas, and feedback are welcomed. Until next time.
