Chapter 39- Skye Grows Suspicious
While Myrtle and Rae waited at the house, Erica finally upped and left when she realized breakfast wasn't happening. Rae tried calling John's cell a few times but wasn't getting an answer. Myrtle assured her that Skye was probably fine, though she wasn't convinced herself because of what a loose canon Skye was.
When the phone rang again, Rae answered it, and there was a knock at the front door and Myrtle found Stuart, Hayley, and JR on her porch.
"Stuart!" Myrtle beamed. "Please, come in. Hello Hayley. Hello Junior."
"It's JR now," he responded as they walked in.
Stuart smiled brightly at Myrtle. "How are you feeling?"
"Much better!" Myrtle said. "You'd never know that I was in a fire and got a concussion, and that is all thanks to my rescuer."
JR peeked around the living room. "Where's Skye?"
"She's not home right now. I'm not sure where she is or when she'll be back."
JR frowned. "Oh."
"Uncle Stuart and I were hoping to visit her," Hayley said. "JR overheard and wanted to join us. We've been so preoccupied with searching for Colby, and it's Dad's week with JR… we thought it would be good to get out of the house for a bit."
"We're so very worried about Colby," Stuart said sadly and started to tear up. "She's such a bright little girl full of sunshine and she brings such joy to our family."
"Skye is with John," Rae said as she entered the room. "They're on their way home. Oh, hello."
JR looked up at Hayley. "Can I watch TV while we wait?"
Hayley looked over at Myrtle and Rae. "I'm not the one you need to ask."
Rae nodded. "Of course, JR." She showed him to the TV room, then returned to the others. "It'll mean a lot to Skye that you came."
Hayley smiled sadly. "I didn't want to say anything in front of JR, but Dad told me this morning that Skye was adopted and that she's living with her birth mother now. I had no idea and that she's your granddaughter, Myrtle."
"It was quite the shock for all of us," Myrtle said. "Especially Skye."

While John talked to Rae on the phone, Skye stepped back into Kelly's to find AJ and Michael sitting at their table.
"Why did Mama leave again?" Michael asked with his lower lip sticking out.
"I don't know, buddy," AJ said.
"Hey," Skye said as she walked over to them. "It was lots of fun hanging out with my fellow red head today." She winked at Michael.
"Here, buddy." AJ reached into his pocket and handed him a five-dollar bill. "Why don't you go order a sundae."
"Okay, Daddy." He took the money and headed over to Mike behind the counter.
Skye sat across from him. "Carly was just arrested. She admitted to locking me in the boathouse."
AJ's eyes grew wide. "What?"
"I just wish I could get her to admit that she's been targeting my family too. She must have taken Grandmother and Colby."
He shook his head. "Carly is a lot of things, but I just don't see her kidnapping Grandmother. She's the one Quartermaine Carly got along with, other than Emily. Speaking of Em… she hasn't been acting herself since Grandmother went missing."
"What do you mean?"
He shrugged. "Maybe she's just worried about her, but it seems like more than that. She keeps sneaking out in the middle of the night, she's always on edge, she was walking in her bare feet in the snow last week, and Grandfather caught her stealing money from him."
"And she's never done things like that before?" Skye asked. "I really don't know much about her yet."
"She's snuck out a couple times with Zander but never in the middle of the night. But she would never ever steal from Grandfather. Aunt Tracy thinks she's lost her marbles."
Skye scrunched her face when John walked in. "All right, Skye. Ready to go?"

Stuart and Myrtle decided to go for a walk around the neighbourhood together until John and Skye returned. Stuart explained to her that Marian already filed for divorce and Adam paid good money to speed up the process. He was still very sad but happy for Marian and he was grateful for his new friendship with Myrtle to help him through it.
John and Skye finally arrived home. Skye was about to run into her mother's arms but held back when she saw Hayley standing next her.
Skye crossed her arms. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Skye, that's no way to greet your sister," Rae said.
"She is not my sister," Skye said.
"Skye, I was hoping we could talk," Hayley said.
"John and I will be upstairs," Rae said and squeezed Skye's arm before she and John retreated upstairs.
"So?" Skye looked at Hayley. "What are you doing here?"
"We've been really busy with searching for Colby," Hayley said. "Dad is a wreck."
"Get to the point. Did you find Colby?"
"No. So, anyway, this morning, he told me that you were adopted."
"Oh!" Skye rolled her eyes. "So, that's why you're here… so you can gloat and brag that you're his first born after all. Yeah? Well, you don't have to worry any more. He cut off my inheritance so that just means more for you, Colby, and Junior."
"Skye… that's not why I'm here. I came because… because I'm worried about you."
Skye scrunched her face. "Oh, why would you be worried about me? You hate my guts."
"No. I don't. We haven't always gotten along, but I never hated you."
"Sure, you didn't."
"I actually used to look up to you," Hayley said.
"Yeah right…"
"When I first came to Pine Valley and before I knew we were sisters—"
"We're not sisters," Skye interrupted.
"—I used to think you had such a good sense of style. I mean, look how I was back then. All goth and a messed-up teenager. You just seemed to have your life together."
"Yeah, well, you were wrong. I never had anything together."
Hayley cleared her throat. "Then I learned you were human and… well, you were broken. But we have a lot more in common than you think. We both had drinking problems, we both ended up at Oak Haven. And now… I might be one of the only people who knows what you're going through."
"Oh, don't even try to compare," Skye said. "You discovered you were a Chandler, but me? I've been de-Chandlered."
Hayley sighed. "You're still a Chandler. But I know what it's like to feel like you've been lied to your whole life, then to have the life you knew turned upside down. It's very challenging, but I think you'll learn to embrace both your old life and the new. To realize that you can be a Chandler, a Quartermaine, a Fargate, and a Cummings all at the same time. And specially know that you're not alone. We all have our issues with Dad, but you have Uncle Stuart, me, JR, and your new family. I'm here if you ever want a sister talk. This could actually bring us closer together."
"Hayley!" JR rushed into the living room.
"Junior?" Skye raised an eyebrow. "You came too?"
Tears sprung to JR's eyes. "It's all over the news! Jamie has been kidnapped."
Skye's eyes grew wide. "Tad's annoying little boy?"
"He's my brother," JR said. "Hayley, I need to talk to Skye alone."
"Why?" Hayley asked. "Is everything okay?"
"I really need to talk to her."
Hayley nodded. "Okay, I'll go into the TV room."
Once Hayley disappeared, JR yanked a piece of paper out of his pocket and handed it to Skye.
"What's this?" Skye asked.
JR locked eyes with her. "I had to give it to you. It's my fault that Jamie and Colby are missing."
Skye raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"I didn't want to involve you… but now he took Jamie too!"
Skye scrunched her face and unfolded the note.
You made a huge mistake, Skye Chandler by telling. Now your nightmare is only going to get worse.
