Jane didn't know where they were going until the last minute. When the limousine stopped in front of the opera she smiled. This was definitely a good surprise. Maura glanced at her expectantly and she bent over to place a kiss on the docs' cheek. "I like it!" she said and heard Maura exhale slowly as if she had feared that Jane wouldn't. The driver walked around the car to open the door for them and Jane slipped out first to hold out her hand to help Maura.
The doc looked stunning, and people turned their heads at the couple. Jane saw recognition in their faces and nodded friendly. Both left their coats at the guarded wardrobe and took a few steps into the building. It was of a magnificent architecture as Jane noticed.
"MS. Isles?" A voice interrupted her thoughts and she saw a woman approaching them. "Your seats are ready. Do you want to have a drink first or shall I lead you to your seats?"
Maura and Jane exchanged a quick look and then decided to have a glass of champagne first. There was plenty of time as Jane noted and watched in joy as Maura checked her new watch.
"To us!" she toasted when they held one of the finest champagnes in their hands. "To us!" Maura repeated and they brought their glasses together, locking eyes.
Rigoletto was one of Janes favorites and she enjoyed every minute of it. With her hand on Maura's thigh, she watched the scenery and she smiled at Maura when the docs hand came to cup hers. "I love you." She whispered to the blonde's ears.
"I love you too Jane. Happy six months anniversary." Maura said and caught the brunette's soft lips for a kiss.
"Would you like to go for a little walk?" Jane asked while helping Maura into her coat. It was freezing cold outside, but she felt like walking a few steps through the snowy streets. The blonde smiled and reached for her hand as they stepped into the street. Their breaths were showing in a white fog and they smiled at each other.
Jane had always loved New York. Maybe because this had been where Alex and she had spent their first night together. It had been on a school trip when Jane had been quarterback of the school team and Alex a cheerleader.
Or maybe because this had been the first destination she had flown to after graduating from the academy. This city bore a lot of good memories she thought as they slowly walked down the street towards a bar Jane knew all too well.
It was usually frequented by students and the tone was sometimes a bit rough. But she liked the decoration which reminded of the sixties and she liked the darkness. This is where they had celebrated after winning. And where she had kissed Alex for the first time.
"Can I buy you a drink?" she asked as they reached the door. Loud music was coming out of the building and Jane bit her lip. They were totally overdressed for this place and she assumed that Maura just wasn't into going to a student's bar. But to her surprise Maura nodded.
Jane smiled. "I have been here before. It's a little rough. Its okay if you want to go some other place." She gave Maura the chance to backpaddle, but the doc smiled and shook her head. Her hand briefly squeezed Janes and the brunette opened the door for her, holding the small of Maura's back as she walked in.
The bar was exactly the way Jane remembered. Dark, loud and crowded. She guided them to one of the empty tables and ordered two beer and two shots, feeling that Maura was giving her a free hand. Maura was doubtlessly one of the most openminded people Jane knew and she watched the blonde sniffing at the shot with a grin. "To us?" she sounded more questioning now, happy to be back in the place she liked so much. Maura smiled and lifted her shot. "To us!" she repeated firmly and they both threw their heads into their neck as they drank up.
The fluid burned down Jane's throat and when she glanced back at Maura she found hazel eyes studying her. "Interesting place." The doc stated, motioning around. A soft but curious smile curled up her lips.
"I'm coming here whenever I'm in New York." Jane confided to Maura after taking a sip of her beer. "I was here when I was 15 for the first time. With a fake ID of course." She shrugged apologetically. Maura chuckled. "so, you were a bad girl?" she referred to the talk they had when Angela had invited her to family dinner for the first time.
"I probably was." Jane admitted slowly and explained how they had decided to celebrate their victory and how it had been common to own a false ID back then when she was a teenager. "It was another time, and no one really cared." She shrugged when Maura mentioned that someone must have noticed that they were younger than it said on their ID.
Jane glanced at the soft smile and felt happy to be able to share this special place with this special woman. When a slow song began to play, she asked Maura to dance. No one cared about the lesbian couple on the dance floor. And Jane let her arms drop and wander down Maura's back. They were dancing close and she felt Maura's breath on her cheek.
She felt Maura's hips pressed against hers, following the lead of her body and how their forms matched perfectly. There was so much she felt, but unlike Maura she had no words to name the things that went through her head. She felt lucky for being with such a wonderful woman and the smile never left her face as another good memory added up to this place.
When they returned to their hotel suite it was already early morning and they were slightly intoxicated and most of all tired. Jane helped Maura by unzipping her dress and slipped out of her own clothes before slipping between the covers.
R&I
Maura watched Jane drink her coffee. They had slept in after a long evening and Maura still reveled in the feeling of Janes strong arms wrapped around her when she opened her eyes. Jane always claimed that she hated snuggling and that she couldn't sleep that way. Yet she proofed herself wrong almost every night. The doc watched the brunette smirk over the roll which obviously wasn't as fresh as advertised. But being hungry she ate it with a grumble.
The weekend was almost over, and the limousine was soon going to pick them up and bring them back to the airport. Time flies when you have so much fun Maura thought while taking another sip from her own coffee.
Maura tried to picture them in five years. Were they still going to be in so much love? Why not she thought as she finished the rest in her cup and waved to the waiter to pay. She had the feeling that Jane was equally sad that the weekend was over already and smiled at her.
