Chapter 40: cancel or postpone?
(Narrator POV)
The following day, everyone was gone from the house except for Edgar and Olivia. Davion was out playing basketball with some friends. And the other three were with Edgar's parents, but only for a little while. The twins still needed Olivia a lot. It has been awkward the last couple of days. Edgar and Olivia have been at odds with each other, they had the opportunity to talk without any distractions from kids. "We need to talk." Edgar told Olivia as she was folding the kids laundry. She stopped what she was doing and followed him to the dining room table.
"Look, I don't know where your head is at the moment about everything that has happened in the past day... I just wanna know how you feel about it?"
"I've expressed the way I feel, I'm not gonna say it all over again just so you get mad at me again." Edgar slammed his hands against the table and stood up.
"Olivia I am really," he chuckled, "really trying to understand why you are so against this. That kiss and make up thing we did last night was front you and I both know it!"
"I told you why! I told you everything you wanted to hear! I don't know what else you want from me!"
"To be honest with me Olivia!" They we're both screaming at each other now.
"Fine you want me to be honest! Here... I think that getting engaged was a mistake!"
"You don't mean that!"
"Yes I do, I think we should cancel the wedding!"
"Fine! Give me my ring back!" Olivia slid the ring off and threw it at him. "We're done!"
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me! You have made it very clear fiber our whole relationship especially these last two weeks that you do not trust me! You don't! As much as I kills me to say Olivia because I truly love you! I wanted to marrying you so badly! We are not on the same page and you are making it very clear that you don't want me anymore. I'm tired of fight you Olivia!"
"Edgar I don't want to lose everything we have over something so silly!"
"Silly! A boy's future is in our hands! We let him go! He will be on the streets something his mother never wanted. You know that! He's been coming over here for months what's wrong with him permanently being here!"
"I have been so stressed Edgar!" She started to cry.
"I can't do the tears Olivia I'm gonna do them."
"Yes you are! And you're gonna sit down and let me talk!" Edgar sat down in the vacant seat. "I'm so tired Edgar! I'm tired of fighting! I'm tired of being tired! And adding another kid Edgar is too much! I want him here it's just too much for me! I hate myself for not wanting him here! And I'm sorry for all the terrible things I have said to you... you don't deserve that! You deserve so much better Edgar. I think you're right we need to be done." She sobbed out. No matter how angry he was seeing her cry, broke his heart. He got up and held her close.
"You still don't get it. All I have ever wanted is you Olivia my better is you! You're stressed , part of that is my fault I have not stepped up to my duties as a father. I know that. But I don't think that because we are having issues, we should stop a child from being loved."
"You're right. I really don't want to let you go." She cried. "We should throw our relationship away Edgar. I promise I will do better and I'll be a better person, I promise I wo-"
"Shhh, I know. I don't want to either... but we are at a strain,". Olivia pulled back from him.
"What are you saying Edgar?" She held her breath, with a worried look on her face.
"I'm saying that we need work this out because I can't let you go. No matter how much I want to, I can't!" He started to cry as well making Olivia crying more. Edgar never showed this kind of emotion Olivia knew she really hit deep. "I will be a better father! And a better man to you! Please just don't go!"
"Never." They just stood their, in their dining room, crying and holding each other. Their first real fight broke both of them. And they survived through it. Edgar made a promise to Olivia that he keep forever. "Keeping Davion is something I'm willing to do now. As long as I always have your help. Because I can't this by myself anymore. And this fighting and carrying on we are doing is not working for me."
"Me either baby. You can have this back, as long as it's not canceled..."
"No, let just postpone, get us back on solid ground before get married."
"I'm okay with that." They gave each other a nice kiss. They couldn't have make up sex yet. But when they can Edgar will never stop making up. The love they had was too strong to ever be broken apart.
