Cammie POV

Liz stared back at me with wide eyes.

'You want…' She couldn't even finish her sentence.

'Yes' I placed my hands on her petite shoulders 'Trust me Liz, I know what I'm doing'

She nodded.

'This is all well and good, but how are we going to sneak past the teachers?' Nick asked.

'With a little help from our sisters' I winked at him. Macey was already on the same wavelength as me, our gazes narrowing in on the other group of graduates.

'You think Tina and the others will play along?' Macey arched a perfect eyebrow

'Only one way to find out'

Macey nodded and sauntered over to Tina, Eva and Courtney. I watched as their faces morphed into sadness, anger and then mischievous smiles.

Macey looked over and nodded. They were in.

'We'll have approximately 5 - 10 minutes before Buckingham is finished on the phone and comes back. Is that enough time for you both?' I looked at Nick and Liz.

They nodded.

'Alright then, let's get to work'

We managed to sneak out of the hall, Macey had gone with Liz to get something from Dr Fibbs' lab whilst I was keeping a lookout for Buckingham as Nick worked on the elevator. The panel was open and several wires were poking out. Nick was hard at work, seeing to know exactly what he was doing.

'So…' He began

'So?' I raised an eyebrow

'We both know that you are more than capable of hotwiring this elevator yourself' He glanced up at me quickly 'So why do you need me?'

'Morale support?' I quipped back. Nick looked back at me and chuckled

'Come on Cammie, you can't fool me' He paused for a moment 'What are you planning on doing once you get down there?'

'Nick...it's best that you don't know'

'So why am I here?' He asked. It was my turn to pause.

'I made a promise to you, and now I need you to make a promise to me.'

'Okay…'

'I need you to tell me that I'm not crazy even when I might be and you need to trust me even when you don't'

'Cammie-'

'Promise me?' I asked. Nick furrowed his brows for a moment, probably wondering if I indeed was crazy.

'I promise' Nick eventually said. I flashed a small, tight smile.

'Thank you' I said looking back at the control panel 'Intersect the red and green wire and then turn the dial 45 degrees to the left'

Nick shook his head and chuckled.

'You never fail to amaze me, Cammie' Nick redid the wiring and the elevator doors slid open just as Macey & Liz hurried over.

'You got it?' I asked Liz. She nodded handing the object over to me.

'I hope you know what you're doing, Cam' Macey gave me a warning look.

'I hope so too' I stepped into the elevator with the others.

As we descended down, there was an unexpected tension rising between us. We all know that what we were doing was risky but we needed to find Amy and fast.

After what felt like an eternity, the doors began to slide open. I gasped as a thought hit me.

'GET DOWN!' I shouted, pulling everyone down as a shot was fired against the back wall, bouncing everywhere.

'STAND DOWN DUCHESS!' My voice boomed down the corridor.

'Bloody hell' Bex hissed as she ran towards us 'Sorry guys. The code black kind of had me freaked out. Do you know what happened?'

'Yeah' I dusted myself off 'Amy is missing'

'Holy shit' Bex's eyes were wide 'How did that happen?'

'We're about to find out' I passed her and headed straight to Zach's cell. He was standing at the door

'Gallagher Girl-'

I ignored him and opened the door.

'Move' I ordered. Zach watched me suspiciously but walked out of the cell slowly.

I led him down the corridor to one of the interrogation rooms. I opened the door. Zach continued to watch me carefully.

'You know, if you wanted to get me alone, you could have just asked' He quipped trying to make a joke.

'Move' I said again. Zach stepped inside. I followed after him, about to shut the door when Bex's hand stopped me.

'You are not going in there alone' She hissed.

'Bex, he'll only talk to me. I need you to get information out of the others'

'Liz just told me what she stole from Dr Fibbs labs for you' Bex's eyes were full of worry 'Don't do this. Please.'

'We need to get Amy back, Bex. Trust me'

Bex looked at me for a long time, she stole a glance at Zach quickly then looked back at me.

'Be careful' Were her parting words as the door shut. Leaving me alone with Zach.

Zach POV

Cammie didn't acknowledge me right away. She stayed facing the door as if preparing herself.

'What caused the alarm?' I asked, the silence between us becoming unbearable.

'Missing student' She said 'But I guess you knew that since this is all part of your plan' She turned slowly to face me. Her expression is completely blank, completely unlike her.

'I don't understand'

'Amy is missing. Or as you know her as Princess Amirah' Cam paced along the back wall, keeping a large distance between us. 'What do you know about her?'

'As I told you before' I began 'Max mentioned her'

'What did he say exactly? What did he tell you to do?' There was a fire building inside her. Or there had been a fire burning for a while and she was ready to explode. Either way, I knew that I was further onto her bad side and we were in dangerous territory.

'He told us to protect her'

'Really?' She chuckled, actually chuckled 'I find that very hard to believe'

'It's true! He said that she was in danger and when the time came, we needed to protect her. Cammie, I swear that I'm telling the truth'

'For your sake, I hope you are' She whispered as she stepped forward placing a small vial of clear liquid on the metal table between us.

'Is that what I think it is?' I arched an eyebrow, knowing that we both knew exactly what it was. Truth serum.

'Don't make me use it' She said.

'Gallagher Girl-'

'Tell me what Max wants with Amy'

'I don't know. I wish I did but I don't'

'Is there anyone else working with you? Any names or code names you overheard?'

'Cam, I don't know anything'

'I don't believe you' She snapped

'Then why don't you use this?' I indicated to the truth serum 'It's the quickest way to get your answers'

'I'm not you' She said softly. I stopped, her words slicing through me sharper than any knife. 'We've both had the serum in our systems, but you were the one who asked me questions'

'I found out the truth about Max that way! Wasn't that what you wanted?' I was confused at why she was focusing on me finding out the truth when that's all she wanted

'Not like that' She shook her head 'I didn't have a choice. You got your answers and you didn't care'

'Of course, I cared! I wanted to stop but then you mentioned my mother and I…' I gritted my teeth 'I'm sorry, Cam.'

'Sorry isn't going to change things. But helping me find Amy will' She stepped closer to me 'Tell me what Max wants with Amy'

'I don't know' I took a step closer to her. We were within reaching distance but neither of us moved. Our eyes locked. Our defences down.

'You've got to believe me, Gallagher Girl. I don't know'

Cam lowered her gaze and stepped away from me. The air between us grew colder. Cam ran her fingers through her hair in frustration then paused, her eyes grew wide.

'What is it?' I asked

A small smile crept up on Cam's face.

'I know how to find her' She whispered. Before I could react, she ran out of the room and disappeared down the corridor.

Cam POV

'Tell me what Max wants with Amy' I pressed

'I don't know' Zach took a step closer to me. His eyes locked on mine. A stare so strong I could feel myself melting. There could have been an explosion in the room and I wouldn't have noticed.

'You've got to believe me, Gallagher Girl. I don't know'

I lowered my gaze, not wanting to fall into the trap of his gaze anymore. I took a step back too, keeping our distance and stopping the spark that seemed to always be crackling between us.

I ran my fingers through my hair keeping my hands occupied when my bracelet got caught on a stand of hair. I paused.

I've got a matching one too, look...I made it with Dr. Fibbs help this morning. There's a little tracker in the charm, that way if I ever get lost again, you can find me.

A smile grew on my face. Oh Amy, you little genius!

'What is it?' Zach asked.

'I know how to find her' I whispered aloud, mainly for myself. I darted out of the room. Bex, Macey, Liz and Nick were all standing in the corridor talking to Grant and Jonas when I came bounding out.

'What is it?' Bex asked

'I know how to find Amy'

'Really? How?'

I held up my wrist.

'Because she thought like a Gallagher Girl'

The girls all smiled. Nick looked at us baffled.

'Am I missing something?'

After putting Zach back into his cell - with no argument or hassle whatsoever - We made our way into the elevator ready to find Liz's laptop.

'How did it go with Zach?' Bex asked

'He doesn't know anything' I said

'Did he tell you that or did the serum?' She quipped. Her distaste for me bringing the serum was evident.

'He did' I handed her the vial. Bex's eyes widened momentarily; was she surprised? Impressed? I don't know.

'And you believe him?' Bex studied me carefully. I looked back at her, not quite sure of how my reply would go down. But I didn't have to worry, the elevator doors opened and standing before us was Professor Buckingham...and she did not look happy.

…

'You directly disobeyed my orders' Buckingham paced in front of all of us. 'I specifically told you all to stay inside the hall'

'It was my fault, Professor' Bex said 'I was trapped in the elevator and I sent a message to the girls asking for their help'

'Miss Baxter, I might be old but I'm not stupid. All radio frequencies are suspended during a Code Black' Buckingham eyed us carefully. I felt Bex momentarily tense. I stepped forward.

'Technically earlier today you told me to try and get information out of them as soon as possible. So that's what I did. And now I know how to find Amy'

'How?' Buckingham asked

I held up my bracelet.

'Amy put a tracker in the bracelets so we could always find each other. All we need is for Liz to track it and-'

'Do it' Buckingham straightened the bottom of her blazer.

We all nodded and rushed off.

Once we had the computer, Liz began to type away at full pace.

'She's been missing for two...three hours?' Bex noted

'Which means they could already be on a plane out of the country by now' I countered.

'She's not' Liz said 'There are no flights in the surrounding airspace. They took her by car' She continued to type. 'And it seems that they've taken her somewhere on the East coast'

'Do you have an exact location?' I peered over her screen.

'Not yet' Liz turned the computer to face me. The little red blip was continuing to move around, pinging left and right along the coast.

'Right. I'll get the gear ready' Bex said

'No' I replied

'No?' Bex looked at me 'What do you mean, no?'

'It's risky and-'

'Like that's ever stopped you before' She arched an eyebrow

'What I mean is that maybe we should stop and think for a sec. We saw the firepower Max had at Blackthorne, it could be walking into a death trap or worse. Getting Amy back alive is priority'

I turned back to the computer to see the red dot had finally rested on a single location.

I froze.

Surely it can't be...I mean there are so many fairgrounds along the East coast...but there it was...the exact fairground my father had taken me to as a kid.

'Cammie…'

In that split second, I made a decision that...well...don't judge me for...I pressed a few keys causing the signal to disappear. But tapped the keys angrily as if something else had happened.

'The trackers been disabled' I said turning it back to Liz

'What?!' Liz began to type extremely confused. 'How did this happen? I don't...How did they find it! They must be onto us! We need to sweep for bugs! We...We need to get Gallagher on lockdown! We-'

'Liz' Macey grabbed her shoulders stopping her

'We've lost her'

I stepped away from the girls, they thought I was sad or angry or just wanted to be left alone, but it wasn't that. It was because I had just betrayed my closest sisters and there was no coming back from this...

Zach POV

I was half asleep when I heard the elevator doors open. My body clock told me that it was around 2:30 in the morning.

I sat up as the footsteps approached. A figure crossed my door casting a shadow.

'Cammie?' I asked. The figure didn't say anything, they just opened my cell door.

'We need to go' Cam's voice was barely a whisper, trying not to wake the other guys.

'What's going on?' I asked

'Come with me' Cam moved away from the door leaving it open. I stood up following after her.

'Cam' I moved around to stand in front of her, my arms lightly on her shoulders, careful not to apply too much pressure 'Cam you're sleepwalking. You need to wake up'

'Zach, I'm awake' She sounded annoyed. Yep, definitely awake. 'We need to move, quickly'

Cam pushed passed me heading for the elevator. I watched her frozen to the spot. What was going on?

'Well,' She said 'Are you coming?'

After a moment of hesitation, I followed after her. The elevator doors closed behind me. Neither of us said anything for a moment. The rumbling of the elevator could be heard.

'So…' I began 'You care to tell me what's going on?'

'We're going to get Amy back' Cam said.

'We?'

'Just you and me' Cam didn't look at me, she just stared straight ahead.

'So it's a date?' I ached an eyebrow, trying to get Cammie to lower her walls. She didn't. 'Why aren't you taking the others?' I asked.

Cammie didn't look at me, she just continued to stare straight ahead.

I furrowed my brows, an uneasy feeling grew in my stomach.

'What are you planning?' I asked. Cam turned to me.

A flicker of something crossed Cam's eyes. They clouded slightly. Was she scared? Regretful?

The elevator doors opened, Cam turned away from me and walked into the corridor.

This wasn't part of the building I had been to before, and considering that everything was underground, and the elevator had been going up, I was sure there were no floors.

'We don't come up here often. The students don't know about it.' Cam said, reading my mind. 'It's where we keep all the vehicles'

Cam flicked on a light illuminating a massive garage.

There were cars and bikes of all different varieties.

'Wow' Was all I could say. Cam moved around the space effortlessly; she grabbed a set of keys, a few license plates then threw a bag at me.

'What's-'

'It's your stuff' She interrupted, still whirling round the space. She looked around the space, trying to find the correct car.

'Cammie?' Both Cam and I turned at the voice. Nick was standing in the doorway.

'What the hell are you doing here?' Cam stormed forward, dropping everything she was holding and stood in front of Nick.

'I couldn't sleep so I decided to explore around. What are you doing here?' He looked over Cam & saw me 'What is he doing?'

'Nick, you need to leave' Cam tried to push him towards the door. Nick shrugged her off

'What are you planning?' He asked. I could see the tension in Cam's shoulders from here.

'I'm not crazy' Cam said to him. Nick's eyes widened momentarily. The pair looked at each other silently communicating. My heart ached at the ease they have together, words are not always needed when you're with someone you love.

Eventually, Nick nodded, accepting something between them. He looked past her and back to me.

'Watch her back'

'I will' I answered automatically, and I truly did mean it.

Nick gave Cam a quick hug before she hurried back over to me.

'We need to leave' She grabbed everything that she dropped and headed to the car. I put my bag into the truck and climbed into the passenger seat.

Cam turned the engine on. She was about to start driving but paused.

'There's just one more thing…' She turned to me. Holding my hand. 'Zach...I...'

I furrowed my brows. Then suddenly I started feeling sleepy. Not this again.

I looked down at my hand to see Cam's on top with a feather-light touch. There was also a sleeping patch.

I looked up at Cam.

'I'm so sorry' She said.

'Gallagher Girl…' But my words were lost as the feeling of sleep became too strong to ignore.

Author's Note: Hello everyone! First of all, thank you so so so SO much for over 20,000 views. I cannot thank you all enough! Now we've made it to chapter 40 and well...there's still a long way to go. But now Zammie are reunited (and the next chapter will be HEAVILY Zammie). So Cam has ended up lying to the girls and Amy's tracker points to her past...someone clearly knows a lot about Cammie's life...is it Max? Is it Steve? Or is it someone else? There won't be a chapter next week as I have a new project deadline coming up so will see you in two weeks! xxx
