Chapter 39
Suki and Katara straightened up while June tucked the lovebirds in. After Kya fainted, Zuko looked absolutely exhausted. After a brief debate with Katara, he took his medicine and went to sleep next to Kya.
Katara was still very aroused. While she was helping Suki clean up the messes from their recent escapades, her robe would occasionally scrape her still protruding bud, making her wince. Hopefully Zuko wouldn't sleep for too long.
Mai busied herself by sorting out everyone's clothes and piling them. It was almost the middle of the night, and they had to leave tomorrow morning. Zuko would probably only have time for one more round. Hopefully having their clothes and food already packed would make everything a bit easier.
Before long, they all finished with their tasks and met on the other bed. The other couches were pretty much abandoned now, the intimacy of their last encounter negating any privacy they had previously held.
Silence reigned for several minutes as they all sat there awkwardly. "We should probably get some rest," Katara suggested. June nodded. "Yeah." Still, no one moved to sleep. They had only just woken up, and they were still excited from earlier.
"So, Katara…" Suki raised her eyebrow, "How was it watching your mother?"
Katara eyed her warily. "If was f-" Her eyes widened. "Wait, what? What do you mean?"
June smirked. "You kind of let it slip there, princess." She clasped her hands at her chest dramatically. "Oh, Mom, I love you so much!"
Katara's face flushed as she stuttered, trying to come up with an excuse. Her reactions gave her away.
Mai's eyes were narrowed. "Why keep that a secret?"
Katara hesitated. Could they all be trusted? She still only knew most of them to a friendly level, not to risking her mother's life. But Zuko trusted them.
She took a deep breath. "Can you all keep a secret?" She explained the rule about entering the harem, to all of their surprise and alarm.
Katara watched Mai closely. It was very clear that she didn't like either of them very much, and she privately wished she hadn't told her. Mai caught her gaze, her flat look turning into a glare. "I'm not going to snitch. What would Zuko think?"
Suki gasped. "Does Zuko know?"
Katara nodded, relieved that they were all taking this so well. "Yes, she told him before their first night. She said that's why he picked her. For her," Katara paused hesitantly, "Experience."
Suki glanced at June. "So what about her? She said she slept with a lot of people."
June cleared her throat. "Yes, I did. I went with the more… conservative interpretation." Her cheeks flushed red.
Suki raised her eyebrows. "You were a virgin?" She gasped. "But you didn't do anything with him your night! Does that mean you lost it when I was there?"
June rolled her eyes. "I never said I was a virgin." She paused and tilted her head thoughtfully. "I wonder if it counts…"
The other girls waited expectantly. June shrugged. "I only had sex one other time, when I was eight. I hadn't developed yet, so I'm not sure how that works biologically."
Katara gawked. "Eight? Why?"
June gave her a reproachful look. "Let's just say my mother wanted some extra cash. Things are different where I'm from." That ended the conversation effectively.
Katara broke the silence by offering to brush Suki's hair. They found a brush in one of the bathrooms and she got to work quickly. To her surprise, June moved behind her to brush her hair, and Mai sat down between Suki and June. It didn't take long before they were sitting in a makeshift circle, stroking out each other's tangles.
Sisters. That's what Suki called them. Katara had thought that it was a bit strange at first, but she was warming up to the idea. Is this what sisters do? She had only grown up with her brother. She relaxed as June's hands skillfully disentangled her knots. She could get used to this.
They sat there in silence for a few hours, long after the last tangle was undone. Suki's hair was almost fluffy like this, and the others had their long tresses flowing down their backs. Mai's hair was long enough that she could sit on it if she wanted. Mai and June weren't far behind.
The conversation turned to Suki's hairstyle. She said she kept it short out of habit, since long hair was really bad in close combat. Mai was a warrior too, but she never had to get too close. June normally just kept hers tied back.
It was weird listening to them talk about the war. Katara's only memories were of her abandoned home. She had never seen the war, only its effects. She described her brother and how he was the only eligible man back home (not that any girls would be interested). She and Sokka had been the only children besides Agi when the men left, so the other women were mostly older widows. In the south, extreme temperatures increased the speed of menopause, so fewer and fewer could have children now. And with the Water Tribe's code, the only way men could become a part was through birth.
Katara stopped, realizing she'd been rambling. They had stopped brushing hair a long time ago, now just seated on the bed in a circle, talking. "So how is that going to work?" Suki asked.
Katara sighed. "When Sokka's old enough, he'll probably marry some Fire Nation girl or something. That way, when they have a son, he can marry Agi." Sibling incest was frowned upon, but marriage between cousins wouldn't be a problem. "As long as there is more than one family, we'll be fine. It'll just be slow."
Mai tilted her head. "So cousins can't get married, but cousins can?"
Katara sighed. "Technically, no two people who share a mother can get married, or parents to children. I think that's about it."
June raised an eyebrow. "Huh."
The conversation faded as Zuko groaned, stretching awake. Katara glanced at the other women. "So what are we doing now?"
Suki winced. "I don't think I can take him again." The other women nodded, and Katara steeled herself. "You figure something out. I'll go with him."
Zuko rolled over, lazily bumping against Katara. "Morning," he muttered drowsily. Katara smirked and pecked a kiss to his nose. "Not yet it isn't."
Zuko's eyes opened as he remembered what he needed to do. "About last night…"
Katara rolled her eyes. She leaned in close, her face almost touching his. "How about you make it up to me now?" Her bright blue eyes glittered affectionately.
Zuko pushed himself up on one arm. "I was hoping you'd say that."
Suki giggled as Katara's moan filled the air. "She's so horny."
June snorted. "Well she was teasing herself all of-" she glanced around, "Last night? Tonight?"
Mai nodded. "Last night. It's early morning now."
June shrugged. "Regardless, I think-" Katara screamed as Zuko's finger slipped into her. "I think she really needs this."
Katara couldn't hear them. Unlike Mai, she didn't need Zuko's assurances that he loved her. She much preferred for him to prove it.
To her surprise, he didn't mount her right away. After their robes were discarded, he grabbed her by the wrists and spun her around. She caught herself before face planting the mattress. Nearby, Kya didn't even stir from her restful slumber.

As June pulled Zuko away, Katara glanced at where her mother was still sleeping. Zuko really had destroyed her last night.
Zuko was shocked at the lustful looks in June's eyes. Glancing over at Mai, who just shed her robe, he spotted the same thing. What was going on?"
Mai grabbed his hand, dragging him away from June. "I'm going first," Mai announced. June just shrugged. "Try it."

Her nose ached from the pounding into the floor. "I'll be fine," she murmured, burying her cheek into his shoulder. "You still have one more wife."
Zuko carried her to the other bed where Mai laid as he looked over at Kya, who was still dead to the world.
"I'll let her sleep."
