You wanna know a funny story?
I was playing Digimon Next Order on a friend's house. I never had the ExE evolution that happened when your Digimon dies. Either I triggered before it came to them dying, or they didn't loved me enough.
To come full circle in the end, I had a WarGreymon and a MetalGarurumon for the final battle.We got our ass's whooped and I thought I'll had to train more.
Then: BOOM! They ExE Digivolved into Omegamon and beat the bad guy!
It was such a shonen protagonist moment that I just wanted to share XD
Okay, let's start.
(As the music plays all the started floating up into the sky through the rainbow portal in this order: Tai, Matt, Sora, Izzy, Mimi, Joe, T.K, Kari and Killua. All of them looking eager to reach to go to the Digital World again)

(The kids all fly towards the Spiral Mountain with their partners and Wizardmon. Looming over the mountains are the silhouettes of the Dark Masters)

(It shows the Digimon in Ultra Level all looking ready for fighting in the next order: Garudamon, Mega Kabuterimon, Lilymon, Zudomon, Magna Angemon, and Angewomon. And then it shows VictoryGreymon and ZeedGarurumon in the end facing different Digimon)

(Killua and Piedmon face each other, the clown has his swords floating around him, while Killua is holding his something in his hand, he smiles and activates the Godspeed.)(All of the eight Digimon launch their respective attacks at the camera in the next order: VictoryGreymon, ZeedGarurumon, Garudamon, Mega Kabuterimon, Lilymon, Zudomon, Magna Angemon and Angewomon. The camera then shows them on their Rookie forms turning to Champions, then the whole group with Killua on the front)
The desert area was crumbling away. Going back to its origin on the old world, below, after Machinedramon's defeat against the Digidestined and Killua. The city that Machinedramon built as his base was separated and sent to different parts of the world.
Everything was seen from the wasteland section by the resistance group. Their group has been getting bigger and bigger ever since the defeat of MetalEtemon and Ogremon's deatg. With Frigimon and Meramon as their newest addition.
Leomon nodded to himself. "The moment we've waited for! With Puppetmon captured, Piedmon is the last member of the Dark Masters left to be beaten!" He told his group.
Cheers broke out in the Digimon in the group, as hope blossomed in their chests at the prospect of going back to their world. Their true world, the world that was not warped by the Dark Masters' dark influence.
The Digidestined for their part just smiled. Happy at the progress their friends were making. "Agumon and the others are fighting really hard," Gomamon remarked.
"We have to be ready," Wizardmon said. "Piedmon is, according to Puppetmon, the strongest of them."
Palmon smiled proudly. "But now we can reach the Mega Level too! With VictoryGreymon, ZeedGarurumon and SaberLeomon we can defeat him! And with all the resistance too!"
Mimi smiled at her partner. "That is so true, Palmon! Everything will be over soon!"
Joe crossed his arms with a pensativo look. "I wonder if Puppetmon can turn the world back to normal, or else we'll have to get rid of him..."
"That's up to that Killua boy, right?" Chuumon asked. "He is the one who captured him after all."
T.K smiled. "Killua will think of something, he's really smart!"
Matt didn't said anything, he just watched the city disappear in the world below. A troubled look on his eyes watching the proof of Machinedramon being defeated. He clenched his fist and shook his head. 'As long as they're beaten, it doesn't matter how...'
...Yet why did he felt an ugly feeling in his head.
Leomon walked up to him, oblivious to Matt's inner turmoil. "Digidestined, let's get moving."
They all nodded and got on the move. Ready to got to where the last member of the Dark Masters is waiting, where their friends' were waiting for.
With the resistance group following them, and Leomon on the lead, the group trekked deeper into the dark forest where they were standing. The foliage on the trees was all completly black and devoid of any life. It was like everything else that the other zones didn't needed was sent here.
The only thing they were lacking at the moment was information on their enemy, they had the numbers and the strength. Piedmon was the only member of the Dark Masters that never appeared on his zone or had Digimon from his army patrolling the area. The rumors and Puppetmon just kept saying that he was the strongest of the Dark Masters, but no one had the chance to confirm it. He was shrouded in mystery for both his reason to act this way, maybe he was just pure evil or he was insane. No one knew.
Whatever the case, the priorities were the next: Reunite with the other Digidestined and overrun Piedmon's base at the top of the mountain.
Simpler said than done.
They walked a large distance, and Mimi was starting to fall back, panting in tiredness. She eventually couldn't hold any longer and collapsed to her knees. "I can't keep up anymore, my feet are killing me and I'm getting hungry!"
Palmon was at her side. "C'mon! I just evolved from Tanemon and I can keep going, you can too!"
Chuumon, Otamamon, and Geckomon crowded around her. "Don't worry, princess, Tama! We'll find something for you!"
"I'm sure there's something in the forest, Kero!" The Geckomon nodded.
Chuumon pumped his fist eagerly. "Me too! I'll go too!"
With that the three scurried off and Mimi blinked. "W-wait it's not that much of aaaaaaaand their gone..." She pouted. "Damn, I didn't wanted to sound all spoiled with them again."
Palmon patted her back with sympathy. "It's not spoiled, we only took that break to see what happened to the city, we've been walking for a long time."
Leomon looked back and saw the girl laying on the floor, he signaled his troops to stop and turned to them. "I think it's time to rest, gather food and other materials you may see appropriate."
The Digimon in the group nodded. Some decided to fell to the ground and gain some rest--mostly heavy ones like the Monochromon, while others followed Leomon's instructions and went to look for items that might help on their crusade.
Leomon watched his troops with careful eye. The morale was bigger than ever, with the defeat of Machinedramon. Puppetmon wasn't a threat anymore, according to the Digidestined, so once Piedmon is defeated everything will be back to normal.
... Well... Not everything.
He shook his head. His rival made his more noble choice by sacrificing for the cause, even if him or Piximon can never be brought back due to the state of this world, their deaths will forever be reminded as an example of bravery and commitment.
As he was lost in memory lane, he didn't noticed Centauromon coming to him until he addressed him, "Leomon."
He perked up and turned to the hybrid Digimon. "Sorry, Centauromon," He apologized at his distraction. "What is the matter?"
Centauromon looked around. "Near this zone it's said to be the remains of an ancient ruin... Some Digimon even tell that a strange creature resembling the Digidestined was there. I can only assume that that 'creature' is actually Gennai."
Leomon's eyes widened at the information. Gennai contacted them a long time ago, he is the one to ask them to form a group to fend the Dark Masters off until the return of the Digidestined to this world. But ever since then, they haven't heard anything from the Digital Human.
"I see," He mused in the end. "I can guess what you're going to ask me, old friend."
Centauromon chuckled. "Hehehe, then I'll said it straight out. I'll be heading off in that direction to see if the rumors are true."
"Not so fast, sunny!" That old voice called the two warrior's attention and they looked down to see Babamon coming to them. "I'll be going with you if that's the case."
Centauromon eyed the old Digimon. "Healer Babamon... I keep you with high respects, but I have to vote against it. It might not be safe."
"And going to the lion's den with this group is? Not offence, sunny," She said, looking at Leomon for the den comment.
"None taken," The leader of the group said.
Babamon giggled and turned to Centauromon. "Sunny, I've lived through so many cycles in this life that you'll be surprise. But out of all of you, I think I've known about Gennai the most. So if he's anywhere around those ruins, then I'd like to meet with him. And don't worry about the injured, my new students will take care of that," She said pointing discreetly at Joe and Wizardmon.
The centaurus and the lion looked at each other and sighed. "Okay, healer, you can come." Centauromon conceded.
Babamon smiled and looked at him. "Then what are you waiting for, big chunk? Lift me up!"
Centauromon bent down and picked the old Digimon, to place her on his back. "Okay... I think we're ready..." He said, feeling awkward at his position.
Leomon stuck his hand out. "Good luck, my friend."
"Same to you," He took the hand and grip it firmly.
Babamon waved her staff. "Don't go dying now, sunnies. Go, horsey!" She slapped her staff on the centaurus rearguard.
"YOUCH!" Centauromon yelped in pain.
It worked thought and the two took off to another side of the forest, with Leomon watching the old Digimon's actions with a sweatdrop.
Wizardmon watch it too from afar and went to question the tall lion. "Where are Babamon and Centauromon going? He asked.
"To check on something that might be important," The lion said. "Don't worry about it, Centauromon is a great warrior and Babamon a great healer, they should be fine."
The wizard nodded. "I see. Then I'm the one responsible for this group's health for the moment. I better do a good job."
Leomon smiled at him. "You'll do well, young one."
At that moment the Otamamon, Geckomon and Chuumon came back with food, enough for the whole group, though they made a beeline to Mimi. "Look at all we found tama!"
To the Digidestined surprise, the amphibians and the mouse found all kinds of food, from healthy ones to bags of snacks and even a bottle of soda. All enough to feed them all, and the other Digimon around.
Mimi gaped at them. "How did you found all of this?"
Chuumon shrugged. "We just... Knew where to look."
"Enjoy yourselves!" The Geckomon invited.
They didn't need to be told twice. The Digidestined grabbed the most tasty looking ones, being mostly junky food, except for Joe who grabbed healthier ones. And the rest of the resistance group just eated what they wanted, even the envelopes. Meramon toasted everything on purpose before eating them, while Frigimon froze them to eat them. Leomon grabbed some meat fruit--Fruit that tasted like meat--while still standing at the front of the group.
T.K munched happily in the food they've been provided. "I never thought he'd eat something so good before going back!"
Matt just eat silently, nodding to agree with his younger brother. "Yeah."
T.K looked at him with a confused expression. "Is something wrong?"
Matt snapped of his pensive position and looked at the kid with a smile. "Nothing wrong, pal. Just thinking. Let's enjoy while it last!"
T.K bought what his brother said and nodded. "Yeah!"
Later. After everyone eat and had their stomachs full.
Almost everyone had decided to take a nap to recover their strength and then go back on their way.
Gabumon was cuddled with Patamon and T.K, while Mimi, Palmon, Gomamon, Joe and Wizardmon all slept under a tree.
The only one wide-awake was Matt. Who was resting his head with his arms behind it.
Thoughts kept invading his mind. Thoughts that had been forming ever since their encounter with MetalEtemon. No, that was wrong. They weren't thoughts, more like... feelings. A feeling in his stomach that kept unsettling him. He sat up with a scowl, the feeling never leaving him and making him feel tense. 'What is wrong with me?''
He knew deep down what it was, but wasn't ready to accept it. He got up and walked away from where his brother, Patamon and Gabumon were sleeping.
He reached the top of a hill where Leomon was sitting, cross legged. The lion seemed to be nodding off, but managing to stay awake to continue on his watch.
Matt called his attention. "Leomon?"
His head snapped up and turned to see the boy. "Matt. Is something the matter?"
Matt looked away. "No... Nothing's wrong. I just... You kinda look like could use some sleep. Let me take the guard. Back when our group was traveling together we took turns to do so..."
Leomon thought it for a moment and got up. "Very well, then. I'll leave it to you. Thanks for the chance to let me rest."
"... Don't mention it," Matt said, scratching the back of his head.
Leomon went down the hill to take some well-deserved rest, while Matt stood there, watching the surrounding area to try and warn his friends in case something bad happened.
He let out a sigh. 'I can do at least that much...' He thought with bitterness to himself.
In a rocky area, on the top of the wasteland section, a tomb with the funny shape of a piece of... Poop... was made.
Kari wad kneeling in front of it with her hands clasped together. "Numemon, thanks for your help. I hope you take care of us from the heavens. We'll never forget what you did for us."
Gatomon looked at Kari, with a cute and confused look, tilting her head at watching her partner's action. She mimicked her and clasped her hands, not doing a prayer nor kneeling, but feeling it was appropriate.
Killua was at her side, watching the tomb with sad eyes. He could have stopped Machinedramon from killing them if he hasn't been so afraid from the big bad machine. But his brother's voice remind him of his training and the tactics of an assassin.
He clenched and unclenched his fist, letting go of the frustration he felt towards himself and tried, for once, to look at the bright side of things. 'They'll be reborn in Primary Village, like Elecmon once said.' He sighed and put a hand on Kari's shoulder. "Let's get going."
Kari got up and dusted herself off. "Okay."
Meanwhile, on a small mountain above from where the grave was made, The rest of the Digidestined as well as Andromon and Puppetmon all watched the landscape where they found themselves on.
"Do you guys know where in the heck are we?" Tai asked.
"I'm sorry to say I never leaved Machinedramon's area before, since the Spiral Mountain was made," Andromon informed.
Puppetmon raised his arm. "Oh! Me! Me!" He waved his arm like a child on class. "This is our home!"
Izzy looked at him with curiosity, Motimon in arms. "Your home?"
Sora held Yokomon on her arms and watched something in the distance. "Tai, over there!"
The boy with goggles looked in the direction his friend was pointing at and got his trustworthy scope to take a better look. "It's that... A building?"
Far, far in the distance, they could see what seemed to be a building with a dome as it's ceiling. It was the only thing in miles of only gray wasteland. So it obviously stood out like a sore thumb.
"Yup, that was our base of operations before we split the land between ourselves!" Puppetmon explained with pride.
Tai for his part, narrowed his eyes. "So Piedmon is there..."
"So they finally arrived..." Piedmon mused from a fancy looking couch in his base of operations, looking at a screen that showed the Digidestined and the anomaly. "I'm surprised they made it, but it's a pleasant surprise."
He took a sip from the drink on his hand and smiled. "I think I should give them a prize from making it this far."
From the shadows, a pair of red eyes watched. "Lord Piedmon, I have news."
"LadyDevimon!" Piedmon said with a smile. "Good to see you're back. What have you brought me?"
"Those resistance pests Lord Machinedramon was trying to squish off; I've found them," The Digimon in the shadows informed.
It stepped out and revealed to have a female figure. She looked similar to Devimon; grey skin with a skintight black suit that gave her her devilish appearance. She had chains around her body--her possible weapons of choice.
She continued, "They're heading to the cost near Primary Village... Or what's left of it anyway."
Piedmon chuckled. "Good. Then I guess my own army with the Vilemon can take care of them without too much trouble, they'll be overwhelmed by their large numbers to even think of fighting back. As for you, my dear, I have another mission."
She bowed. "Say and I shall serve."
He pointed at the screen in front of him. "See the Digidestined that just arrived? Give them a warm welcoming... Although, leave the anomaly to me." He said taking a sip.
"At once my lord," LadyDevimon nodded, while bowing.
"Go and give them the best welcoming ever," He smiled even further. "They deserve only the best."
She smiled cruelly and melted in the shadows. "As you wish."
Piedmon leaned back and sipped on his drink. "The show is reaching its climax. Puppetmon, Anomaly, soon you'll learn your proper places."
After a well deserved rest and food, the resistance group was once again in the move, marching towards their objective in the top of the mountain.
Mimi rolled her left shoulder and pumped her fist. "Now I'm ready to go in full swing against anything! Bring it on!"
Palmon smiled happily at her partner's enthusiasm. "Good to see you back in full spirit Mimi!"
Chuumon was perched on the pink loving girl's right shoulder. "With Mimi so motivated, nothing can stop us!"
Wizardmon chuckled lightly. "I sure hope you don't jinx us, Chuumon.".
From behind the group, Matt walked. Head low as his thoughts kept drifting to dark places about himself. He tried pushing them down and not let it get to him, but with nothing else to do it was proving to be kind of hard to do so.
Joe looked back for a moment and noticed the behavior the older blonde on was having. So he trailed back to talk to him. "Matt, are you okay?"
He snapped out of his dark place and looked at Joe. "Umm yeah..."
Joe didn't seemed conviced. "Are you sure? You seem bothered by something."
"I said I'm fine, okay?!" He snapped.
Gabumon threw him a surprised look at the way he responded. "Matt..."
That look caused him to flinch and a moment later he looked at Joe's shocked face and sighed. "Sorry... I'm just stressed you know? With everything that's happening."
Joe smiled. "I guess I should be worried if you weren't worried," he clapped a hand on his shoulder, "if you need someone to talk just come to me, okay?"
Matt smiled gratefully at his friend and nodded. "Will do... Thanks Joe." Yet he knew it was a lie. He didn't want to bother the others with such selfish thoughts.
A bit ahead of the group, T.K and Patamon walked, oblivious to the discussion his brother had with the older kid in the group. He was just watching everything around him with Patamon in arms.
He gasped when his group entered a desolated, yet familiar, land.
T.K gasped in horror. "This is..."
Leomon watched the area solemnly as the members of the resistance gritted their teeth and felt tears on their eyes. "Primary Village..."
The once innocent looking village was now completly gray and devoid of life. The toys that served as buildings had fallen to the ground, sprawled on the floor with no one to fix them. The Digi-eggs, the hope and pride of this place, were now gray and cracked. Dead, without even been born.
Mimi clenched her fist. "This is so cruel! How can the Dark Masters do this?!"
One of the Gizamon in the group walked to a dead egg. "This could very well be our comrades..." He said shedding a tear. "We'll never see them again!"
The reaction was the same amongst the group. Despair at seeing the beacon of hope after death in complete ruins.
T.K walked forward, watching one of the broken eggs with a sad expression, looking ready to break in tears.
Matt walked to his brother and put a hand on his shoulder. "T.K, it's going to be okay."
The boy was quiet for a moment, before saying, "I know." He turned around to face his older brother. "I know that! Because we are going to defeat the Dark Masters to fix this place!"
Patamon nodded from T.K's arms. "We won't let them get away with this!"
Gabumon pumped his fist. "You are right, guys!"
Matt stared at the fire in his brother's eyes. The determination that he didn't seemed to have at the beginning of their adventure. He swallowed a lump on his throat and nodded. "Y-yeah. You are right."
Leomon walked to the T.K and placed a hand on his head. "Well spoken, T.K." He turned to his followers. "Don't fall in despair, my friends! This shall all be fixed once our crusade is complete!
That statement lifted the spirits of the group and they roared as one in approval.
That roar called someone's attention.
"Thunder Attack!" A purple blast was launched from the forest surrounding the village towards the group.
Leomon saw it coming and blocked it with his sword. "Who's there?!"
From the bushes a red Digimon appeared. "You are the ones intruding in my territory! Leave this place, there's nothing left to destroy here!"
T.K's eyes widened in recognition. "Elecmon!"
The caretaker of the area recognized the boy and his partner. "T.K? Patamon?"
Izzy connected a plug in Andromon's body. The cyborg Digimon was kneeling with both his hands pressed against the floor. "Andromon, start now."
"Understood," He nodded.
The rest of the group watched the boy's computer. It showed a 3D map of the Spiral Mountain, showing the top and the two remaining zones below belonging to Puppetmon and Piedmon.
"What are you doing exactly?" Yokomon asked.
"Getting a map of the zone," Izzy said. "Puppetmon already confirmed that the building in the middle is their base of operations. So I want to have at least a better layout of the area."
"See," Motimon put his chubby arms in his jelly belly. "Izzy is a super smart kid!" He bragged.
Puppetmon scoffed. "I could do that with my eyes close."
"Then why don't you?" Killua asked with a deadpan.
"Reddy here deserves his chance to shine," Puppetmon said pointing to Izzy.
Andromon tensed for a moment and his eye glowed for a moment. "Someone's coming, get ready."
Everyone took out their Digivices, while Puppetmon gripped his hammer.
A wicked laugh echoed around them. "Ara, ara~ Welcome my Digidestined."
From below the hill whete the group was, LadyDevimon appeared. She was watching them like a hungry predator for its pray. She had her arms crossed below her chest to... Accentuate it. "How you doin'?"
Killua's jaw dropped at the sight of the Digimon and immediately look at Izzy, trying to dissimulate the blush on his face. "Scan, please!"
"Huh?" The boy had a small blush as well. "G-got it!" He typed quickly. "LadyDevimon, Ultra Level, Virus Type. Member of something called the Nightmare Brigade."
Sora, Yokomon, Gatomon and Kari glared at the Digimon. "I don't know why but she ticks me off..." Kari grumbled.
LadyDevimon continued to eye them until she noticed someone anon them. "Ara~ Puppetmon! There you are... Have you forgotten our sessions~?"
Puppetmon was quacking on his bots and looked ready to shit himself. "Y-y-y-y-y-y-y-you... FUCK THIS SHIT! I'M OUT!" He droppes his hammer and ran like hell. "I CAN FIGHT PIEDMON, BUT THAT WITCH SCARES ME!" He yelled as he ran away, leaving a trail of dust behind.
"YOU COWARD, GET BACK HERE!" Killua yelled at the run-away Digimon, pressing the remote rapidly.
Multiple level seven discharges coursed through the puppet's body, causing his escape to fail and making him trip, quite far from where the Digidestined were. "I don't wanna play 'stick it' with that witch."
LadyDevimon mocked pouted as she saw Puppetmon running away from the scene "Pooey, my little toy doesn't want to play anymore," She looked at the boys. "Does anyone want his place?"
"As if! You old hag!" Killua blurted, the blush on his face deepening.
A thick mark appeared on LadyDevimon's forehead. "O-old?! HOW DARE YOU?!"
"Oh shit, guys evolve!" Killua yelped.
"Yokomon Digivolves to... Piyomon! Piyomon Digivolves to... Birdramon!"
"Motimon Digivolves to... Tentomon! Tentomon Digivolves to... Kabuterimon!"
"Gatomon Ultra Digivolves to... Angewomon!"
The Ultra and two Champions surrounded the she-devil in the air. Watching her with caution, if someone could make Puppetmon run away like that, it was someone to be feared.
LadyDevimon was gnashing her teeth. "I was going to let the anomaly for Lord Piedmon. But now I'll make him suffer so don't get in my way! Darkness Wave!"
An attack similar to Myotismon's Grizzly Wings was used. Liberating small bats to attack the four Digimon around her. The battle was on!
The wave pushed back the Digimon the three Digimon leaving her with a free way towards Killua. "You are mine!"
Killua for some reason felt really intimidated by the way the devil was staring at me. "Oh shit!"
"Light Sword!" Luckily, Andromon came to his rescue and launched a cutting edge at the devil.
She stopped and just batted the attack away. "Don't interfere!"
"Meteor Wings!"
"Electroshock!"
The two attacks coming from the bird and the beetle didn't faced the devil. She batted them away with no effort. "If that's the best you can do then clear the way to the anomaly!"
"Celestial Arrow!"
An arrow made of light made a slight cut on her cheek, causing blood to spill from it that was dissolving to data. LadyDevimon swirled around and glared at the angel that just launched that arrow at her. "You bitch!"
She flew to her and nailed an uppercut that sent Angewomon sailing through the air. "How dare you scar my beautiful face!"
Agumon's eyes hardened and he got in position. "Tai, I'm ready! Give the call!"
Surprisingly, Tai held his hand up. "Wait, Agumon."
"Uh? Why?" The dinosaur seemed confused.
Killua responded. "Think about it, she is a powerful Ultra Level, able to go toe on toe with Angewomon. If VictoryGreymon faces her it could take a lot of energy and you just fought with Machinedramon."
Tai nodded. "I think the best we can do now is..." He turned to Sora. "For you to go and look for Matt and the others."
Sora seemed shocked. "Tai, you can't be serious! All of our partners are fighting that Digimon!"
"I agree with Tai," Killua said. "Kabuterimon and Angewomon are more than enough to hold her off and even defeat her. If worst comes to worst, we have our trump card," He smiled at Agumon.
He scratched his head with a sheepish smile. "Hehe I'm the trump card?"
"That's not all," Tai said, scowling to the distance. "We are at the enemy's door which means that waiting for us..."
"... It's Piedmon," Izzy said in understanding.
"We don't know when he is going to attack," Killua said. "Nor do we know if all of the four Megas present here and the two Ultras can take him. He took ZeedGarurumon and VictoryGreymon easily the first time we faced him. But with four Megas and four Ultimates, plus the resistance, should make things easier."
"That's what you want Matt and the others' help, right brother?" Kari asked.
Izzy nodded. "I hadn't seen it that way... I thought maybe all of us could be enough."
Sora stared mainly at Tai and at how well he was thinking things. "Tai, you..."
Tai clenched his fist. "No more rushing recklessly or playing by myself in the soccer field," That phrase was something that only Sora understood, "To put an end to all of this. To the Dark Masters' reing of terror, we need to be all together. No more Digimon sacrificing for us like Piximon or the Numemon."
Sora smiled. "You are right, Tai."
Killua looked at Tai with a blank stare. He closed his eyes and smiled. "You've really grown, you know?"
Tai let out a small smile.
Angewomon launched another arrow at LadyDevimon to keep her back. "I'll hold her off, Birdramon, go!"
Birdramon nodded. "I'll count on you!" She flew down towards Sora.
Angewomon smiled, but that costed her a kick to the back that sent her crashing to a mountain. Impacting face-first into it and leaving a crater with her form.
LadyDevimon smiled. "How'd you liked that?!"
Angewomon got out of the crater and growled. "Bitch!" She flew off and gave her a right hook.
LadyDevimon growled and used her clawed hand to punch her on the gut. Angewomon doubled over, but leaped back to recover, glaring at her opponent with furt. "You'll pay for that!"
Sora managed to climb to Birdramon's leg and they flew off. "Wait for me guys! I'll bring the others so together we can put an end to all this!"
Tai waved at her. "We'll be counting on you!"
Killua watched her go and turned to the fight. Kabuterimon was flying without interfering while the female devil and angel continued on their fight.
For some reason a thought came to him. 'Meow...'
Elecmon's ears were down as he gloomily eat some food provided by the resistance group. "Ever since Primary Village was destroyed I don't have any duties. It's really sad to know that no baby will be reborn here again..." He looked at T.K and Patamon, both were giving him worried looks. "T.K, Patamon, I'm glad to see you are okay. Tell me, how's Killua doing?"
"Killua is doing good," T.K reassured him with a smile. "But he went to another place."
"I see..." Elecmon nodded and munched on his food. "I'm glad to hear that all of you are giving your all."
Mimi stepped forward, smiling at the electric Digimon. "Why don't you join us?"
Elecmon perked up. "Huh?"
"Until the Dark Masters are defeated, the Primary Village won't go back to normal," Wizardmon said. "That's why this group was formed, to help on the fight with the Digidestined."
"Our group might be smaller and weaker, but that last thing we lost is hope!" Leomon declared extending his hand. "What do you say?"
Elecmon looked at the hand of the leader for a moment and sighed. "Very well, for the sake of my babies I will."
Leomon nodded. "Thank you for your cooperation."
Elecmon got up and walked to the forest. "I think I should tell you about this... I saw something suspicious while standing near the river close to this place."
"Suspicious how?" Gabumon asked, feeling curious about what the caretaker was saying.
The Digidestined, Leomon, Chuumon and Wizardmon followed the red Digimon in the forest leading to the shore.
"Suspicious as in evil suspicious," Elecmon said. "While gathering my fishes to have some breakfast I saw a shadow flying over my head." They made it to the river Elecmon was talking about. "It flew over the river in that direction." He pointed to the west.
"A shadow?" Matt questioned, raising an eyebrow at the long eared Digimon.
"I'm not sure it was a Digimon. It was just a shadow, but could I feel a shiver in my spine when it passed over me. Maybe it's related to those Dark Masters," Elecmon said.
Matt looked in the direction where Elecmon was pointing and took a step forward. "I'll take a look."
"Matt?" T.K and Gabumon questioned.
"If it's related to the Dark Masters then we can be crossed armed," Matt explained. "I wanna make sure it's nothing bad..." He said.
"If that's the case then there is a paddling boat with the form of a swan around here, near the shore," Elecmon said.
The small Digimon guided the Digidestined, their companions and Leomon along the shore, where said boat was sitting. Just waiting to be used.
Both Matt and Joe exchanged looks at that. "Huh, brings back memories." Gomamon said.
"A-anyway," Matt coughed. "I'll go check."
"I'll go with you," T.K offered, grabbing his brother's hand. "I wanna help too! If it's related to the Dark Masters then I want to contribute a bit."
Matt smiled down at his brother, feeling a warm feeling on his chest at his brother's initiative to accompany him. "Okay then."
"The boat it's to small for all of us to go, so I guess it's on you," Wizardmon said. "Be safe guys, and try to come back before it gets dark," He adviced.
The search party nodded and got into the boat. T.K and Patamon were on the backside while Matt and Gabumon paddled. Gabumon waved at them. "We'll be back soon!"
T.K did the same. "If we don't find that shadow we'll come back to you to continue on our way!"
Matt just stared ahead of the river as he paddled, feeling determined to find what the deal with that shadow was about. He was sure it had to do with the Dark Masters and he was ready to help out to deal with it. He was going to do something of value this time!
The others watched as their friends disappeared down the river, various degrees of worry on their faces.
Joe frowned. "Mimi... Have you noticed that Matt has been a bit... Off?" He asked the girl.
"Off how?" She asked, continuing to looking to the river.
"He just seems lost in thought as of lately," Joe said, clarifying. "Like there's something weighting on his mind."
Palmon tilted her head in confusion, looking at Joe. "He would have told us, right?"
Gomamon rolled his eyes. "You know Matt, he isn't the most open person when it comes to feelings."
Leomon crossed his arms in deep thought about what the Digidestined were discussing. "That might be a problem. Keeping everything to himself isn't something healthy. But now we shouldn't worry about it, for now we can only pray for their safe come back. If night falls before they come back, we'll look for them."
All of the presents nodded, agreeing with the warrior.
"Wave of Darkness!" LadyDevimon launched her bats at Angewomon, as their fight continued. She completly ignored Kabuterimon in favor of the angel, she just hated her guts. Daring to scar her beautiful face like that!
Angewomon used her powers with the light to block the bats. Feeling repulsion for the small, fanged creatures. They reminded her of Myotismon too much for her liking. Too busy with blocking the bats, she didn't noticed LadyDevimon sneaking behind her and grabbing her hair. "Agh!"
The onlookers of the fight winced when they saw it happen. "Ooof, dirty trick..." Killua said.
LadyDevimon was spinning the poor female angel around. Angewomon was yelling in pain as the roots of her hair were being ripped by the force of the she-devil's grip.
Izzy took out his Crest. "We have to help, Kabuterimon!"
"Umm... Izzy I won't recommend it," Killua tried to warn his friend against it.
It was too late.
"Kabuterimon Ultra Digivolves to... Mega Kabuterimon!"
LadyDevimon let go of Angewomon and launched her towards another mountain. Mega Kabuterimon appeared and caught the sailing Digimon in his multiple hands. "Are you okay?"
Angewomon got out of his grasp with a growl. "Don't get in my way!"
She flew towards LadyDevimon and brought her arm up and slapped the cheek of the devil. "Ugh!" LadyDevimon growled and slapped her back.
"Tch! You dare!" Angewomon growled and slapped back, getting angrier and angrier at her evil counterpart.
And so a back and forth started the sound of palm meeting cheek echoed across the battlefield, none of the two forces of nature clashing against each other ready to back down. The hate between the two being recent, but strong to tear down the whole world if needed.
Angewomon even decided to take some vengeance and grabbed the devil's silver hair and pulled on it. "Agh! Bitch let go!" LadyDevimon kicked her rival's stomach and sent her away.
To Angewomon's delight, she ripped a few strands of hair. "Oh~? Did I ruined your look?!"
"HOW DARE YOU?!" The Devil screeched and launched herself at the angel.
She grabbed her by the throat and started slapping her. Angewomon gripped her hand and kicked her stomach. "Let go! Stupid, ugly and sticking whore!"
The kick managed to pry the devil out of her, then the slaps came back, with the force of a thunder.
Killua sweatdropped. "Women are scary beings..."
"Amen to that," Izzy and Tai echoed.
Kari for her part.
"Beat the shit out of her Angewomon! Beat her!" Kari cheered.
Tai sent a glare on Killua's direction. The boy raised his hands in defense at the silent accusation the bearer of Courage was giving him. "Hey, Puppetmon curses more than me!"
Speak of the devil, Puppetmon was watching the fight hiding behind a rock. His whole frame shaking in fear. "Dear god, now there's two of them!"
With a powerful slap, LadyDevimon sent Angewomon to the ground. The angel's form making a crater where she struggled to get back up. The evil Digimon's hand turned into a spear. "It's over, bitch! Spear of Darkness!"
She dived down to stab the fallen angel in the back. Angewomon's body wasn't ready to move away in time to dodge it, so she gritted her teeth in frustration.
Luckily, Mega Kabuterimon shielded her. His hard shelf being enough to break the spear of the sadistic lady. LadyDevimon gritted her teeth and flew up, clenching her injured hand. "Tch, that pest!"
Angewomon didn't seemed ready to accept the help of her big friend. "I almost had her! Don't interfere!"
"S-sorry..." Mega Kabuterimon said, feeling a shiver ran down his spine.
Angewomon started glowing and flew up while glaring at the devil. LadyDevimon screeched and shrunk away from the bright light of the angel. Angewomon spoke. "Game over, witch!"
"Don't get cocky, bitch!" LadyDevimon tried to summon her dark powers to attack. "Darkness-"
"Celestial Atmosphere!" She launched the arc of light to the devil.
LadyDevimon couldn't do anything to dodge it and received the blast of light head on. She yelled in pain as the light burned her skin. "L-LORD PIEDMON!"
And with a burst of data she was gone.
Kari cheered. "ALRIGHT! Good job Angewomon!"
Angewomon sighed and she flew to Kari--Mega Kabuterimon doing the same to Izzy. The two Ultras regressed to Champion and Rookie respectively. Gatomon landed on Kari's arms. "My fur is all tense because of her pulling on my hair..."
Tentomon looked worriedly at his back. "Izzy, do I have a scratch?"
Izzy chuckled. "Don't worry, it's perfect!"
Puppetmon whooped. "Ding dong the witch is dead!" He cheered and went to Kari and Gatomon, grabbing the two in a hug. "YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE FAVOR YOU JUST MADE ME!"
Kari and Gatomon gasped for air. "Aaack, let go you psycho!" Gatomon said.
Killua would've normally shocked the puppet for his misbehavior, but he was too worried watching something in the distance. He narrowed his eyes to get a clear look. "Tai," He said to the boy. "Do you see that?"
Tai took his scope and watched the building that was the base of the Dark Masters. From it he could see somethings coming out, flying in the opposite direction from where they were. "Those are... Digimon... Here, Izzy."
He gave his scope to the redhead and he looked in the direction of the castle, watching as the Digimon flew off in the opposite direction. "I see them," He returned the scope. "Let me check."
He typed and the image appeared. "Vilemon, Champion Level, Virus Type. They have a small size but attack in a big flock."
What Izzy said was an understatement. Horde after horde of those Vilemon flew off the castle and into the world below in the Spiral Mountain with no apparent reason. It all just gave the Digidestined present a bad feeling.
Then, Killua's sense spiked and he felt a shiver on his spine. "Guys... He's coming."
Through his scope, Tai watched with growing dread at the approaching figure that was slowly walking towards them. His arms were at his side stiffly, the fingers on his hands bent like they were claws, twitching to break something... or someone. His steps were big, yet he walked slowly, as if tasting the moment of his debut.
In all of his glory, it was the leader of the Dark Masters: Piedmon.
Puppetmon gripped his hammer and smiled. "This is going to be the funniest time ever!"
Killua took an involuntary step back. "The final boss..."
Tai gave Agumon a side-glance, telling him with it exactly what to do. "Agumon, now!"
The dinosaur nodded and gave a step forward, determination burning in his green orbs. "Right!"
"Agumon Warp Digivolves to... VictoryGreymon!"
The dragon warrior gripped his sword with both hands and kept it at his right side, crouching low in a position to attack.
Piedmon stopped his walk and just stared at his enemies in front of him. Blood-red eyes staring at them with a sinister smile. His eyes shining with amusement and anticipation, as if he was waiting this moment for a long time.
And oh, he was.
Meanwhile, on the shores of the destroyed Primary Village
Mimi glanced at her Digivice to see the hour. It's been a long time since the two brothers and their partners left to find that supposed shadow and she was starting to get worried. "Maybe we should go and see where they are..."
Joe was also getting worried, a dreadful feeling on his stomach. He nodded at the girl. "You're right, let's go on Ikkakumon."
Leomon was cross-legged under a tree, meditating while hearing what the Digidestined had to discuss about the situation about the bearer of Friendship. Then his ears twitched and he sat up, looking around wildly. "That was..."
Everyone in the shore turned to see him. "What's wrong, Leomon?" Wizardmon asked.
Leomon was quiet and just looked around then he ran back to the village, to everyone's surprise. "Leomon?!"
He ran through the forest separating the shore and the village and reached the destroyed area and looked at the sky. His eyes widening in horror at what he saw. "This... This is-!"
Covering the sky were Vilemon, thousands upon thousands of them, flying towards the place where the significantly small resistance group was resting. They had the same red-blood eyes as their master and their wide mouths just asked for something to get in and be chewed on.
The Digidestined, Wizardmon and Elecmon make it out of the foliage and watched the scene. "W-what is this?!" Mimi asked in horror.
Leomon got his sword out and roared. "Piedmon's Nightmare Soldiers!" He declared. "They've must've come to end our group!"
Joe got his Digivice out. "In that case we have to fight! Gomamon!" He glanced down at his partner.
"I have the energy to be Vikemon again!" Gomamon declared, getting ready for battle.
Mimi clenched her fists. "I won't let the Dark Masters do as they please again! Palmon!" She looked at her trusty partner.
"Count on me, Rosemon will definitely win against them!" Palmon said proudly.
From Mimi's shoulder Chuumon cheered. "You guys can beat them!"
But to their surprise, Leomon turned to glare at them. "No! You will not participate in this fight!"
"WHAT?!"
"Digidestined," Leomon said. "Go and find your friends and finish Piedmon! That will drain the power of the darkness and stop the Nightmare Soldiers!"
Mimi shook her head. "No! Not again! I can't just leave you to fight for us like Piximon did!" Tears threatened to fall from her eyes, remembering the sacrifice of the small Digimon.
Wizardmon turned to her. "Mimi, go! As long as I'm here, I won't let anyone get injured!" He said. "You guys have to stop all of this, please!"
Palmon stared at him with wide eyes, tears of resignation on her eyes. "Wizardmon..."
Joe clenched his fists and grit his teeth, he didn't want to, but they were right. He grabbed Mimi's hand and ran to the shore. "Let's go!"
Mimi was dragged by the boy away from the fight, against her will. "Wh-what are you doing?! Joe!" She started hitting his arm to let her go. "We can't just leave!"
Chuumon grabbed to Mimi's hair for dear life as thet were dragged away
Palmon and Gomamon exchanged looks. Gomamon nodded gravely. "Let's go!"
Palmon nodded wordlessly and they both ran after their partners.
Leomon watched them go and sighed, he turned to Wizardmon. "Ready?"
"Ready."
"In that case..."
"Leomon Warp Digivolves to... SaberLeomon."
The sabertooth lion roared and all the members of the resistance gathered around him. He walked to the front while speaking. "My compatriots! This is our moment! The Dark Masters think they can beat us, but we'll prove them wrong!"
The resistance group all stood behind their leader with determined faces. From the mischievous Gazimon, to the eager Gizamon. From the territorial Monochromon, to the fearsome Tyrannomon. Meramon, Frigimon, and Elecmon all prepared their attacks for battle.
"The Digidestined have their own mission!" SaberLeomon said. "They are going for the leader of all this: Piedmon, the ringleader, we have to hold our ground until they come back! In the name of our fallen comrades like Piximon and Ogremon we fight!"
He was received by a large and big applause and cheers throughout the destroyed village.
"NOW WE'LL TAKE BACK OUR WORLD!" SaberLeomon declared with a roar and charged at the flying army. "INFINITE ARROWS!"
Meanwhile, running to the shore, away from the battle.
Mimi tried to yank her hand away from Joe's. Tears falling freely from her eyes in anger and frustration. "Joe! We can't leave them! We have to be there and fight!"
"Mimi is right!" Chuumon said, holding onto the girl. "Turn back, you coward!"
Joe turned to her and both Chuumon and Mimi gasped, seeing tears on his eyes. "We... We have to find Matt, T.K, and the others to finally put an end to this! We have to trust that Leomon and Wizardmon will be able to survive until we do so!" He said turning back to the front.
Mimi's gaze softened. "Joe..." She looked back to see Gomamon and Palmon behind them, both having determined looks as they ran. She steeled herself and freed herself from Joe's grip. "Okay! Let's find our friends!"
Joe didn't turned back, but nodded. They reached the shore and Joe pulled out his Digivice. "Let's find Matt and T.K, first!"
"Gomamon Digivolves to... Ikkakumon!"They all got on the walrus back and swam into the river to look for the friends that were chasing a shadow.
Even if they didn't knew it, the final battle for the destiny of the Digital World has finally started.

VictoryGreymon and Puppetmon try to hold Piedmon back as much as possible until their friends arrive.
However, Matt has fallen pray to the darkness and is refusing to face reality.
Will he snap out of it in time to help in the battle?
