Emma found herself back in her room remembering only bits and pieces of her day including Mary Margret and David bringing her home and tucking her in bed. Emma hesitated to open her eyes a little embarrassed about her outburst today. After Regina confirmed Emily was gone and there was nothing to fear Emma felt a little silly, but there was no denying now the trauma was real. In that moment it all felt so tangible for Emma and her fear overcame every other instinct. Overwhelmed realising she had this unknown ability to summon a force field Emma felt it best just to lie here forever. Physically though Emma felt astronomically better than before no longer lethargic she sat up straight eyes wide open feeling a warmth at the end of her bed, Emma wanted to see who it was waiting for her to awaken. Sitting legs crossed at the edge of her bed was Killian looking down at his phone with a bewildered expression.
"Hey, what's with the confused look" Emma said as he failed to notice she was awake.
"Liam seems to think the eggplant emoji means something else, another thing I don't look forward to explaining" Killian responded his frown changing to a smile as he looked up into Emma's eyes.
"You got him a phone?" Emma stated surprised pulling of the blanket and sliding off the bed.
"Don't get up to fast" Killian said still concerned as Emma quickly step out of bed onto her feet.
"I'm fine" Emma replied with a smile while Killian ignored her and came over to her side putting his arm around her shoulder.
"That's what you said to me this morning, before you went home and" Killian sighed thinking about Emma at the hospital.
"I promise" Emma said interrupting him, before realising that was stretching the truth a little and she didn't want to lie to him.
"I'm feeling better now" Emma said looking into his eyes.
"Ok, just take it slow" Killian said trying to be supportive but really just felling the desire to wrap the girl he loved in bubble wrap, figuratively speaking of course.
"Slow huh, I can do that" Emma replied.
Emma stepped forward and in a purposely slow movement standing up on her toes, grabbing Kilian's collar and pulling him close. Their lips meet tender and soft, they embraced each other. It felt good letting themselves just be with each other for a moment their troubles forgotten. But Killian had to remind himself this was just a distraction and it was time to talk before this happened again. Killian pulled back smiling he tilted his head towards the bed indicating it was time to sit and talk.
The sat on the bed beside each other slowly their hands came down onto the blanket still intertwined. Killian was happy for the moment they just shared together but he had something on his mind, wondering why he wasn't alerted as soon as Emma was taken to the doctor.
"Why didn't you tell me you were at the hospital?" Killian asked frustrated after a moment.
"I don't want to be cause for concern, all the time" Emma responded looking away still feeling bad for taking the time Killian had with Liam because she was feeling a little lethargic.
"Well, that's too bad love, because you are always on my mind" Killian replied.
"Really" Emma asked somehow still insecure about there relationship realising that she should stop feeling guilty about monopolising her boyfriend's time.
"Evan more knowing you have a history of keeping things from me" Killian said letting out his frustration a little bit.
"I'm sorry, bad habit" Emma said bitting her lip feeling silly that she was concerned about it in the first place.
"Killian wasn't upset though he understood not wanting to constantly ask for help, not sure if anyone could be trusted to be there for you. After all Killian disappeared before her eyes and even though it wasn't his fault, he still felt some guilt that he wasn't there for Emma. Killian knew that he would be their next time no matter what, and he was going to make sure Emma knew that. Emma's mindset still stuck on the idea that he might disappear on her. Even after everything they've been through that feeling hadn't gone away, logic wasn't always present when it came to emotions. Especially with hearts as scared and broken as Emma and Killians.
This was also the reason their relationship worked they understood each other on a level most never would. Like right now Emma felt insecure about her relationships, Killian knew this feeling all too well. After spending time with Liam, he felt even more distant from him than ever before, the trust they once had from knowing each other was just gone. Killian felt like he had spent the day with a stranger, and he was sure Liam felt the same. However, Killian knew it would just take time before him and Liam would be as close as they once where they just needed to trust that. To believe in what they could be.
"Emma sometimes the best way to know if you can trust someone, is to just take that leap or you'll never know" Killian said feeling thoughtful.
"I trust you" Emma replied.
"Maybe but you don't trust yourself, your own instincts about me" Killian said as Emma stayed silent.
"It's like you know you love us, but you're not sure if we'll love you back as much" Killian said he wasn't usually this brutally honest, but it was time he knew he loved her without any exceptions and couldn't quite see why Emma didn't know that.
There was silence for a few minutes before Emma realised Killian was waiting for her, patiently waiting for her to tell him what happened today. What she was thinking how she ended up in the state she was.
"It's just, I don't know what happened can't make sense of it" Emma responded with a huff more time went by there more clouded the events of the day became.
"Walk me through, maybe I can help figure it out" Killian asked.
"I think it's going to take a few specialists and some sort of exorcism" Emma said trying to brush it off as a joke.
"I can handle it" Killian replied with a confident grin.
Emma's expression matched his grin looking at him know she felt overwhelmed ready to pour it all out there. Feeling more and more comfortable with Killian very every passing moment they shared together. Every time Emma thought they knew each other completely they learnt something knew that just cemented how they felt about each other. So, at home like this is where they were supposed to end up all along, Emma lay back on the bed and Killian followed suit their legs dangling off the edge. Taking in a breath they both always had so much on their mind it was hard to know where to begin when they had a chance to talk it out. They managed though, slowly Killian talked about the moments he had shared with his brother and how he felt that even though, he was so happy to be reunited. It was like spending the day with a stranger seeing the confusion in his eyes every time Killian revealed something else Liam had missed. Killian had been so focused on finding Liam he hadn't thought about, what to do after. Emma didn't wat to say it but maybe the reason Liam and Killian were failing to connect was because Killian hadn't exactly told him everything. Like the fact that Rumpelstiltskin was in town and running the local pawn shop.
Emma shared how scared she is, wondering when the rug will get pulled out from under her again. Killian just like her parents reinforced that would never happen again, but the truth was the couldn't control everything. Emma had felt like this for as long as she could remember but this was the first time, she was ready to fight for a home. For the longest time trying to convince herself she had become numb to it all. That was just a lie Emma told herself the truth is she felt every rejection every moment of loneliness to her core. Lying here next to Killian now it was easy to talk about and she felt so at peace if only for a little while. To be able to tell him all the details of her day as he listened intently, giving his thoughts on her current predicament. How to handle the Regina situation was one of the few things they disagreed on. Killian took the side of Emma's parents thinking it's best for Emma to keep her distance. So, they changed the subject both circling back to the same issue over and over. How everything unfolded, what happened to Pinocchio there was still so much Emily knew that she shouldn't have.
"I still doesn't all add up, she must have been working with someone else" Emma said frustrated but happy to let it all out. Killian could see there was still something causing Emma a great deal of stress and guilt.
"I noticed your case files in the back of grannies" Killian said as nonchalantly as possible indicated the answers where right in front them.
"How will that help?" Emma said her fear causing her tone to become aggressive.
"Well, you need answers about your past" Killian said knowing even if it made her upset she needed the truth.
"I could just ignore it" Emma said somewhat jokingly knowing that wasn't an option after her hospital visit.
That box of documents where still pushed to the back of her mind; it was the only answers they had to any reason why Emily did all of this. If anyone one else helped her and what happened with Regina.
"Maybe to figure it out, you need to embrace your past, every part" Killian replied to responding smile from Emma he knew he was breaking through now.
"And you need to give them a chance to" Killian finished but he wasn't just talking about Emma's parents, but Liam. Killian knew he had to tell him the truth and hope he would still accept him. If Liam could still have a relationship with Killian after all he'd done there was hope for anyone.
"I could say the same for you" Emma replied referring to the secrets Killian was keeping from Liam. "You told Liam about iPhone's but he's probably more interested in who the local pawn shop owner is" Emma finished.
"Alright let's shake on it" Killian said referring to them both opening up about their pasts to those closest to them.
"Shake?" Emma replied eyebrows raised thinking of a better way of sealing this deal.
With a smile Emma turned her head to face him now as they both remained layed back on Emma's bed. Killian stopped looking at the ceiling as well and faced Emma their noses touching. They just looked into each other eyes for the longest time. Not just because they enjoyed the view, but because they were hesitating in making this promise to each other. Not sure if they would be able to keep it but they couldn't help themselves and their lips meet once more. It was unclear if the answer was yes, more of a general statement. I will try to be better, try to let everyone in.
They spent the rest of the evening eating junk food and watching movies, so they could at least pretend for a few hours being the carefree teenagers they always aspired to be. They wanted that sense of normality in their life, but the biggest missing piece was always each other. Now that they had that Killian and Emma felt at ease watching the cheesy John Hughes films together. Able to have some peace before tomorrow came with another battle for them to fight emotional or physical.
NOTES: As always thanks for the reviews, hope you like this little cs short chapter next up Emma and her parents begin to read through the case files.
