Author's Note;

So Work has been busy and all my lead is gone! I actually started writing this chapter after posting the last which is why I am glad that I spread out the chapter posts. I went through redid the outline and expanded it and getting ahead for editing should go more swiftly and smoothly and lucky you readers! There's now 20 more chapters planned… Roughly. We'll see how many in the end. Also I wanted to share an interesting tibet on history and that time period. I was watching some great videos on the history of fashion (youtube is a great resource) and did you know that in the 1800s flashing some thighs was way more proactive then flashing some nipples? So last chapter… there was a reason I didn't have the chapter in Gilbert's point of view.

DrinkThemIn - Yes they need to get away from people… but will we let them? Stay tuned.

Faith-hope-and-glory - Yes she's torturing him which was why that chapter was told in her perspective vs his… I'm afraid his would have been Mature Rated.

Kushinka - Yes during WW1 things changed, but remember if we set this so Rilla of Ingleside is during WW1, then that means Anne of the Island is the mid 1880s. Also remember much of the restrictions on a married woman working was employers not wanting to deal with loosing an employee especially a teacher mid year due to pregnancy. Not as much of an issue when the boys were all at the front.

Green Gables, Avonlea, PEI

We had a jolly Sunday dinner over at Green Gables. Gilbert joined us though Anne sent him home to nap after we all ate. The girls though had too many questions for Anne and really, what did I care about the details of the wedding? Mrs. Blythe came over soon after and with Gilbert at home in bed sleeping and far too much female chatter int he house I escaped to find the fellas.

I tried the fishing hole first, not certain if Milty's dad really had relented though perhaps with even Minnie May allowed over now that Anne and Gilbert had set folks straight, I figured he would. But still fishing hole first. Not that I'd normally be allowed to go fishing on the Sabbath, but they were too caught up on Anne & Gilbert's news and I swear Anne had already retold their elopement five times and you would have thought I was there I knew it now so well. Well, Milty wasn't there but Anthony Pye was.

"Davy! Not supposed to be fishing but folks are too busy gossiping about Anne's announcement being true. I mean we all believed it already but her confirmation. Well, no one noticed a lick I wasn't at home. Glad you escaped too."

I grinned. "Couldn't grab my fishing gear though."

He shrugged. "Just to escape the gossip is swell. Course, our neighbors the David Bells at least aren't busy talking about Mr. & Mrs. Gilbert Blythe. I'll call her that now that she's made it clear it's the truth. They're too busy talking about their long lost cousin returned, Jonah Bell, an old sailor come home to retire now. I guess the Bells don't care for the Blythes ever since Jonah Bell got into a fight over Miss Marilla Cuthbert years ago with Mr. John Blythe."

"Got into a fight?" I asked.

"Yeah." He leaned over to check the tension of his fishing wire. "Of course, with the words Charlie Sloane's been saying I'm expecting him to pick a fight with one of the Blythes. Mrs. Gilbert Blythe most likely if you ask me. Course, they're all also talking about Miss Jane Andrews and her beau she'll be marrying in a few weeks. Don't expect to be invited to that wedding but would have liked to have gone to Miss Shirley's now Mrs. Gilbert Blythe's. Miss Andrews didn't have spunk when she taught us. Though she could discipline. Miss Shirley, I mean Mrs. Gilbert Blythe was the better teacher though. Though, I figure our current, Mr. West is alright."

I shrugged. "Guess it's just as well. Would have been too much lace and flowers if they'd had a regular wedding. I remember the wedding last year for Fred and Diana! Hey you think Jonah Bell might do for Marilla?"

Anthony scratched his cheek. "Might do. Maybe you can convince the old ladies to invite him over for old time sakes. Guess from what I heard he went to school with Marilla and Mrs. Lynde's husband Thomas. Not Mrs. Lynde mind you, I heard she grew up on the other side of the Island."

"Hey next week's my birthday, and I've got the best big brother now to help. Talked to Gilbert just this morning and he'd said he wouldn't miss it, not only that Fred Wright said he'd help out if Gilbert's feeling too poorly still from recovering from the typhoid and his fall. Though I've still to plan the party. But I'm sure Gilbert will have time to help me tomorrow and I'll come round soon as it's planned to invite you fellas first! It's next Sunday and I don't suppose Marilla or Mrs. Lynde will let us on the sabbath celebrate. Dora's already planning a tea party the next afternoon, but I'll do something better. Just you wait. Though Marilla thinks I should do a tea party too." I groaned.

"Guess she needs a man's influence." Anthony laughed. "Best you invite that Jonah Bell to your party if it's a tea party."

Well, we fished for some time after that, but I kept thinking on it, so rather then walk home when the other fellas chose to nap in the afternoon warmth, I decided to wander over towards the David Bell's home and see if I might meet Jonah Bell myself. Of course just my luck, on my way I ran into Dora walking primly with Minnie May on their way to see Sarah Murray who lived on the other side of the David Bell's family. So I found myself escorting the girls as they giggled and Minnie May gave me far too many big stares. But then she's related to Mrs. Barry so I didn't trust her not to be crazy with odd ideas like ordering a baby from a catalogue. They were going around to drop off frilly invites they'd made the day before and had only been released for Minni May to come now that Anne had confirmed that the worse of the rumors weren't true and at least the two had married properly. Or some such nonsense. I figured I best add that to my list for Gilbert, why was it worse for them to be expecting before they married? And just what was a light skirt? That got added to Anne's list. I'd heard Charlie Sloane call Anne that, and why'd he call Anne that when her dress was dark brown?

Well we made to the Murray home and while the girls visited I wandered over towards the Bell home where I saw Frank Bell along with that ancient great uncle of his, Jonah Bell sitting on the porch. Jonah Bell was rocking while Frank sat bored.

"Davy." He grinned. "I heard the ladies at Green Gables are quite worth knowing now days."

I rolled my eyes. "Then what you doing here? Green Gables has far too many women folk as it is! I just escorted Dora and Minnie May over to see Sarah Murray and now I've got to bide my time. Wanted to let you know I'll be having a birthday party and coming round with the info tomorrow no doubt, still arguing over with Marilla that it best be an adventure and not a tea party. But I'll have Gilbert to help me now so soon as the plan is set tomorrow I'll be round with the info for the fellas."

"Marilla?" Jonah Bell asked.

"That's right. Since you're an old friend of hers and I'll have to have my birthday party no doubt the same time as Dora's a week from tomorrow. Come by to join then and keep Marilla company. Now I've got to wait for Dora. Minnie May means to spend the evening with Sarah Murray and I've got to wait for Dora as she insisted on being escorted home. Like she doesn't know the way? I was wanting to also stop by and tell Milty some more of my ideas…"

"I'll escort her." Frank Bell piped up. "Would love to. The more I learn about Green Gables folks, the more they're someone to know."

I grinned. "That's sure right." I turned then heading towards Milty's home and spent a good hour laughing with him and his brother Sam. By the time I came back towards Green Gables as my stomach was starting to make it clear I was ready for Sunday evening lunch. I swore I saw Frank Bell escorting and pulling Dora towards the shed behind the school house. A little out of their way on their way home, curious I walked towards them.

My eyes went wide though as he pushed Dora against the shed, kissing her as she struggled to push him away. I rushed towards them screaming. "Frank Bell letting you walk Dora home didn't give you permission to kiss her!" And the next thing I knew both Dora and I were kicking Frank Bell, you should have seen the kicks in Dora. She even bit him hard on the arm. Dora might be too prim and proper but at least she's able to put up a fight when it's the right time.

He just glared at us. "Well, I figure with Anne being such a light skirt it must be taught at Green Gables." Dora and I stared blankly at him and each other before giving him a few more kicks.

"You don't disrespect a girl. You'll apologize to Dora now and Anne later." I glared.

"Sorry Dora. They were all saying and you're so pretty…"

She just gave him one strong kick in the groin, then turned to me. "We best be going now Davy," and hand in hand I escorted her home, never been more proud of my sister than that day.

Course we got there, they took one look at us, and by silent agreement we both knew not to bother Marilla or Mrs. Lynde with the accusations. We had a big brother now to help us. And so, we were both determined to spend time with Anne & Gilbert and before we knew it we were all planning a picnic with the girls the next day before bringing them to the station. And though we had some bruises and cuts form the fight, neither of us would say a word about it.

Author's Note:

So this chapter to me feels a little choppy, and I apologize… Davy is either the easiest or hardest to write his chapters… just extremes and this was a harder chapter. And it's sort of transitioning into dealing with the gossip etc. Next chapter coming on Sunday Night is going to be the talk… But will Davy manage to interrupt it?
