A/N: Day 3 of Blackinnon Week!
Light
"Sirius?"
He hums but doesn't turn, his eyes still look unseeing out the window of their flat.
It's a cycle, one she's familiar with. She knows he isn't alright, there's no reason to ask. She does this too. But she's not in the night of this cycle right now, she can see the glimmers of light. He can't, and she knows that as well.
That's not to say she can always see it, the light. There are more instances than she cares to admit where the hopelessness, the despair, the isolating, suffocating darkness envelope her and she can't see her own hand in front of her face. Those are the moments where she has to wait; wait for the strength to claw her way up and out of this live grave, or wait for someone to pull her out.
Marlene knows he's not alright.
She sits next to him at the table, pulling his hand into hers.
"I'm here."
He sighs heavily, his shoulders slumping forward. "I'm fine, Marls."
She pulls her chair closer to him, resting her head on his shoulder as they look out the window.
"I'm here, now, and when you come around, alright?"
He plants a kiss on the top of her head before looking back out the window.
"I'm losing my mind, Marls."
"I know."
"What am I doing?"
"Making your way through a firestorm? Floundering through a maze blindfolded?"
"Merlin."
"Breaking down's never easy."
"Why does it have to include breaking down?"
"Because life's a bitch and she's got a vendetta."
He laughs and she smiles. Maybe he isn't so deep in the darkness that he can't see the light.
"She's jealous of me," Marlene continues, "She'll never know you like I do."
Sirius tilts her chin up towards him, "Really? What makes you so sure?"
"You're mine," Marlene doesn't hesitate and she can hear the fierceness in her voice.
Sirius' smile morphs into a smirk. "Yours, eh?"
"I don't share well, never have."
He leans down and presses his lips to the side of her mouth, her cheek, next to her ear. "I think I'm coming around."
Marlene leans just a bit closer to whisper in his ear. "Good. Let's go for a ride."
He doesn't stand immediately, instead, he kisses her long and slow and leaves her breathless.
"What would I do without you?"
She doesn't answer, just stands and pulls him to the door. He can see the light again; she isn't inviting the darkness back in.
