The day was beautiful walking home through Forks, and into La Push. Despite how much I was able to enjoy it, it didn't stop the vampire at my side from fussing.

"Really, it's such a long walk. You shouldn't be-"

"Oh, Rosalie, I'm fine!" I reassured, smiling as we went. "Besides, ever since the whole thing with Victoria and Xue being gone, Paul's been having a hard time relaxing. I'm glad I managed sneak away from him so I could visit Carlisle."

A cold arm wrapped around my shoulders, the tall blonde vampire huffing. I only quirked up a smile and glanced over. "I'm still wondering how Alice let you get away. Don't you have a bunch of wedding rehearsal stuff to do?"

"Yes." Rosalie didn't look impressed exactly. "I still say she's making a mistake, but I can't really stop Bella from her own decisions."

I shrugged. "Well, feel free to hang around La Push. Especially if she's going to be a newborn like I figure. Just don't pull a Jacob Black. I need my friends." I dramatically sobbed, throwing my arms around her. Rosalie rolled her eyes but didn't protest. I guess she found my state too fragile.

"You guys find him yet?"

"They went out this morning." I shrugged, slowing down once we had reached the driveway. Rosalie obviously was pushing her comfort zone by being here in the first place, but still looked at me apologetically. She couldn't stay long. "Take care, Ross… And of my favorite little feline. I wish he wasn't at school." She pouted, slightly.

I laughed. "Feel free to visit whenever you like, Rosalie. Oh, and give me a ring once the thing with Bella is over. Some of the guys might not take it well seeing her as a newborn."

She sighed, easing down the road. "Might take some time to get past that stage…"

"Plenty of time for us to hang out if you're going stir-crazy!" I laughed, drifting back down my driveway. Waiting to greet me on the porch was Stormy, who immediately started bouncing on his paws.

"Hi baby!"

It was routine for him to jump up on his hind legs and hug me, but he fell back down onto his paws and intently sniffed my stomach. I shushed him and ruffled his head-fur, making my way inside. There was plenty to do since I spent a good while recovering from the fight with Xue. It was mostly my internal injuries of bruising that took the most time to heal- but like a wolf, I was better quickly enough. Once the house was cleaned and Feng had been dropped off the bus from preschool, dinner was underway. While Paul's favorite meal of steak and baked potatoes roasted in the oven, I busied with listening to Feng ramble about school.

I always knew he could talk- he was just a lazy cat.

We sat on the couch together with Stormy rolling comfortably on the rug at our feet.

"And dis!" Feng proudly whipped out a crumpled paper, showing off a drawing of…some giant cat people. I couldn't help but smile and kiss his head. "What an artist we have!"

"And dis for Stormy!"

Poor mountain lion didn't know what to do with the sparkly paper crown on his head. But then the door opened and closed, and Paul immediately smiled at the three of us rushing to him. "So…much…cat-" he coughed, "can't breathe-"

"Daddy, daddy!" It was Paul's turn now to partake in Feng's art show. Paul's smile beamed with joy- particularly liking how vocal Feng had gotten. I started for the kitchen to take out the food before it burned.

"Did you guys find Jacob?"

"Yeah." Paul had since picked up Feng and walked up beside me, hungrily watching as I added some last minute seasoning. He shook his head and bounced the cub in his arms. "He's gonna need some time but he'll be fine." Paul turned his head, squinting at the cub who giggled at him. Then they were off in a mad tickle fest. The sounds of wild toddler giggling and Stormy prancing around was music to me.

Dinner was surrounded by an air of happiness and contentment. After Stormy and Feng went off to bed (with how Stormy adored sleeping with him), Paul and I lounged on the couch together. He perked up after a moment and looked over. "Oh, I smelled your friend by the way. You two go out together?" he questioned, looking me over. I could tell by the sarcastic nod of his head he was just curious, and not really demanding. Most of the Cullens had proved themselves, he was reluctantly agreeing to these days.

"Something like that... She took me to my appointment with Carlisle."

He stared for a moment. "You had an appointment and didn't tell me?"

"I didn't want to worry you. But it's good news."

"Everything healed now?" he asked, pressing a burning hand to my shoulder. "No more bruising?"

"No more bruising… He just doesn't want me to shift for a while or have any unnecessary stress."

He furrowed his brows. "Why can't you shift?"

I pursed my lips and nodded my head back. "Oh, I left something in the oven. Could you get it for me?"

Paul looked hopelessly confused as he stared at me, but slowly pushed to his feet and went to the kitchen. I watched from the couch as he opened it up.

"There's nothing here."

"Look again."

I bit my lip, amused as my husband bent lower and noticed the tray. He pulled it out halfway and leaned his head back, surprised.

"You put bread in the oven?"

I had to laugh. Paul looked at me with his confused brown eyes and looked back at the bread. "I don't get it."

"What are they Paul?"

"Two pieces of bread. Sandwich bread?"

I leaned my head over the rim of the couch, my look only making Paul more confused. He furrowed his brows, concentrating, and stared at the oven. "…seeded or seedless?"

I burst out laughing and struggled to sit up again. "Paul, what and where are they?"

"Pieces of bread in the oven?" He cried, throwing up his arms. Poor baby knit his brows upwards, helplessly lost. Tears were in my eyes and my cheeks hurt. "T-Try again."

Paul let out a hard breath, shaking his head. "Buns? Rolls?"

"You were right for the first one."

"Okay…" He rubbed his chin, the other hand planted on his hip. "Buns…cooking? Toasted?"

He met my eyes, and then, the lights went on. "…in the oven?"

My smile was answer enough. Suddenly, Paul had raced over, jumping over the couch, and was crouched before me with wide eyes.

"…Ross…? K-kitten…are you?"

I nodded. Paul let out a hard breath, sparing a glance down at my flat stomach as if it were obvious. He slowly places a hand over his mouth, breathing unsteadily through his nose. He raised his brows at me, disbelieving, and his chest shuddered. My hot headed, protective, strong Paul Lahote only shed a few tears, in extreme joy, till he threw his arms around me. Careful. But then he leaned away and looked at my stomach as if it were the most amazing thing.

"I… How did you…did you find out today?"

I was amazed he managed to speak at all. His smile was thrilled and constant, so adorably excited.

"Yeah, for sure anyway… took an ultrasound too." Paul watched with keen interest as I fished out a folded paper from my purse. He leaned his head over as I opened it, and again he furrowed his brows. "…I don't know what I'm looking at."

"It's my uterus, you dork. Babies don't grow in your arm."

Paul merely made a noise in his throat, too dismissive to care. His eyes were locked on the paper. "Did Carlisle explain? Or is it too small to see?"

"Well, by human standards yeah, too small right now. But luckily for me, he's trained enough to spot small things… Like…for example…that little blur? There's…two little legs. Stumps, right now."

Paul was beaming.

"And, oh! I wonder what that little thing is?"

"Is it a leg?"

"It's not a leg."

"You bet your tail it's not a leg!" Paul shot off the couch, laughing and shooting his fist to the ceiling. His face was ecstatic as he jumped around, swinging over the couch. "It's a boy!"

"Yeah yeah, Mr. Macho, it's a boy." I smiled. "But sit, sit. I'm not done."

Paul was shaking excitedly as he sat again, looking at the paper. "Okay," I began, clearing my throat and pointing. "This little blur is a boy, but then…what's this over here?"

His smile slowly fell. Paul furrowed his brows. His voice was quiet, unsure the more he looked. "…what?"

I held the paper tightly and looked at him, smiling anxiously. "It's…it's twins, Paul. Two boys."

Like time had stopped, Paul stared at the paper and began blinking. After a long minute a small smile broke across his face, and his voice was cracked.

"T-Twin? Twin boys?" His hushed voice managed, looking at me quickly.

I no sooner nodded than Paul laughed, rubbing his hands over his face. He got to his feet again, but the next moment, he had pulled me up into his arms and sealed his lips over mine. I felt his rushing heart, and the burning excitement shaking his body.

"When are we gonna tell the others?" he breathed, holding me close.

I thoughtfully looked at him. "Soon. But don't lose the bread. I want to see if they take as long as you do."

Paul's lips fell over mine once more, laughing as his heart sky-rocketed to the heavens.

.

It was amid my time of great joy, early in my pregnancy, that turmoil was quick to return to the Forks area. Granted, I wasn't keen on knowing the details. All I did know was one moment Bella Swan was pregnant, the next moment she was a vampire, and more importantly, a highly dangerous group of ancient vampires was coming to Forks.

For me, my decision was as easy as breathing.

I was leaving. After Victoria, after Xue, after taking a vicious beating while I was unknowingly pregnant, there was no way in hell I was staying here. The unborn lives in my body were far too precious for any risk. The instincts raging me to migrate to safety were flaring dangerously, and nothing was going to stop me. I had even arranged to move in with my mother, Lei, down in California before I mentioned it to anyone.

Paul could clearly see that look in my eyes when I told him. Surprisingly, he accepted it. He also accepted the fact there was no way he was leaving me. Even if I traveled to the ends of the Earth, my imprint and husband was sticking with me. It wasn't easy for him to part from the pack, and to leave home so suddenly, but there was no question when it came to hesitation. He felt my rush, my instincts leading me towards safety.

So, before the Volturi could arrive, I gave my goodbyes to the pack. To Sam and Emily, little Harry, Leah, the whole gang… And although Jacob was so distant these days, he made me promise to come back one day when it was safe again. When he could meet his favorite little nephews. I still missed his warm hug… but I didn't regret the drive once we were ready.

Once everything was packed, we had our moving vans ready.

After all, cats weren't so independent these days. And a pack stuck together. Though, Paul had become a part of my own. And he accepted it wouldn't be easy starting over with three teenagers, a toddler, a mountain lion pet, and a pregnant wife.

But Lei was always helpful. Since helping us rent a beach house for my honeymoon wasn't a problem, it also wasn't a problem for her to help us find a new house in her neighborhood. Financially we would pay her back. Despite all the sure stress this was for Paul, he didn't regret leaving La Push.

It was just too dangerous. I couldn't take any more risks.

Until we could move in, she enjoyed me 'being at home' again. Though those first few days were memorable. Chi, Jaio, and Yan-mei adored my mother and took to calling her 'grandma Ross' immediately. She loved Feng instantly, and cried upon my news of pregnancy. The only aspect she was wary of was Stormy. But a few loud purrs and belly rubs later, she was in love with the big baby. That first night in California, I found Paul out of bed, watching the moonlight from the balcony.

At that point, my stomach was still mostly flat minus a small mound growing now. He must have heard me. Paul regarded me with such careful lovingness as he took me in his arms. "Kitten, go back to bed." He whispered, kissing my forehead.

I could only stare up at him. "Do…do you regret this?"

He was sad. Undeniably. But Paul shook his head. "Never. You are my family. My imprint, my soul. I will always be with you, Ross."

Under that moonlight, Paul's kiss reassured me.

But I too knew we wouldn't live in California forever.

La Push was home, and it called me home as much as it did the wolf who had far more ties to it.
