As my shift ends, and I'm on the top floor, I stock the cart for tomorrow so I'll have everything I need. I make sure to put everything back where it belongs and press the elevator button. Today I started from bottom to top, and tomorrow I could do it the other way around. Kate didn't care how I worked, as long as it worked for me and I got everything done in time for new hotel guests.

"So, are you coming back tomorrow?" Kate asks, a bright smile on her face as she's putting away a binder.

"Absolutely. If you'll still have me."

"Well, I suppose you being done half an hour late means you went the extra mile. The girl before you got back down an hour early. You should've seen the state of those rooms. I was horrified."

My eyes widened.

"Wow, seriously?"

"Yeah, and she was disappointed as hell when her paycheck was cut in half. She barely did half her job, so how the fuck should she expect a full paycheck for that?"

"No, you're totally right. Now, if there's anything you don't like or anything I can do better, please tell me Kate."

"Sure will. But Rose talks about you a lot. You seem like a decent enough person." Yeah right, decent people don't fraternize with the hotel guests and meet them after their shift.

I still can't get the bottle of Johnny Walker out of my brain, sitting atop Masen's nightstand. I didn't see whether it was full or empty, so maybe he had a good explanation for having it.

"So, same time tomorrow?" I ask Kate, standing in the doorway of the locker room.

"Yeah, that's great. I've put you on the official schedule, so you can give that a look when you want to know who else is working."

I nod.

"Okay, thanks."

"So, anything nice planned for the rest of today?" I ponder my possibilities here. I decide to keep it under wraps, while not completely lying to her.

"Just gonna have some quick lunch and go see a friend." I say.

"You can pick up whatever you want from the kitchen. I'm sure there's loads of stuff left over from breakfast. Feel free to take some food home. I hate when they have to throw it away."

"Oh, that's nice of you! Thanks. I'll go get changed then and have a look." I smile.

"That's great, Bella. Thanks again for today, you're truly a Godsend."

I smile and turn, whipping the shirt over my head.

"Hey, Bella?"

"Yeah?"

"You can drop your uniform in the wash here if you want. We have loads of robes and stuff to do anyway, so feel free to drop it in. I'll hang it by your locker when it's done."

"Thanks!"

I grab some yoghurt and fruit and eat it in the kitchen while I talk to Eric, the head chef here. He's funny and interesting, hooking me up with a to-go box filled with sausages and eggs I can eat tonight.

I try my best to be as invisible as I can as I make my way back up to Masen. I checked my reflection, wiping away some of the mascara that smudged under my eyes. I fluffed up the curls Rose did for me and took the stairs instead of the elevator, heart echoing in my ears when I get to his door.
