Chapter 43: The Sports Festival part. 15-The Recreational Games.
The crowd was in a low roar as they eagerly awaited the next event to start. Some milling around, while others watched the jumbo screens pop up with ads in an attempt to catch a glimpse of Porygon 2 or Rotom's face appearing now and again. The break was long but needed for those who were hungry or needed a bathroom. But suddenly the crowd was suddenly brought to its attention when a very familiar figure walked onto the field.
It was Gar, who was trying to level and calm himself down after getting all riled up back with Bakugou. He kept taking deep breaths with every other step he took to the center of the arena. He was thankful to Arceus that the cameras had not turned on and started to follow him, otherwise they would have caught his pissed off expression. Once he got to the center of the arena and the crowd was at a near silence, he flicked his headset back on and turned to the crowd with an ecstatic and gleaming smile!
"Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen!", he called out to the crowd, while they all roared back with cheers and applause! "I hope you're all thoroughly enjoying yourself today? Can I get a Hey Yeah?", almost immediately the whole crowd, inside and out, gave a loud and resounding cheer of 'Hey Yeah'. Making Gar smile and feel the jealousy waift off Present Mic in the announcer booth.
"Nice! Well I'm sure you're all just chomping at the bit in anticipation for the final even. But it's not now.", he called out, making some of the crowd mutter in confusion. Adjusting his hoodie he explained further, "Instead, you'll all be treated to something a little bit different this year. Today I will personally hold not one, not two, but three recreational games for the students! But don't worry about those of you who didn't make the cut to the final round, these games are open to each and every student that wants to try.", the crowd muttered and awed at the prospect of the games. Especially the young teen in the crowd who leaned forward in anticipation!
"Each game is a little different and tests you in different avenues, and if you pass, you can win one of three amazing and mysterious prizes!", Gar stated as he pulled three boxes from….somewhere and displayed them out on a pedestal made by Cementoos. A large and collective ooo emanates from the crowd to the mystery inside.
"Ooo indeed.", Gar agrees while setting the mystery boxes down. "And now for our first challenge. A Challenge of Strength!", Gar calls out exuberantly.
Gar claps his hands twice and a new construct of cement sprouted up in the form of two opposing stone block chairs and table. At the same time, four extremely different pokemon walked out of one of the stadium field entrances and joined Gar in a line. The crowd's eyes were glued to the pokemon who lined up in a perfect and organized form, who then all immediately struck different poses of dominance and strength! Some of the crowd cheered while others could help but laugh.
"Behind me are 4 of the strongest known pokémon.", Gar exclaimed with a smile towards the four pokemon, who then struck different poses almost making him laugh, and went down the line introducing them.
"Hawlucha, the Wrestling pokémon.", Gar introduced the first pokemon, who was the only one to strike a different pose.
Hawlucha is a bipedal, birdlike Pokémon with colorful plumage. Its head curves into a beak-shape in the front, but its mouth is located in a white patch under the beak's curve. It has a blue-green mask-like marking across its face, an orange blaze running from its forehead to the back of its neck, an orange ring around each eye, and a small, red patch at the tip of its beak. There is black space around its eyes, which are yellow with pale yellow sclera. On the back of its head are two rectangular, tassel-like feathers. Its red, cape-like wings have blue-green undersides and are connected to its feathery tail. Near the tip of each wing is a three-clawed hand. Its front is white with a line of red along its neck and the top of its chest. It has small, yellow feet with three toes each.
"Poliwrath, the Tadpole pokémon.", he introduced the next one, as it too was the only one to strike a different pose.
Poliwrath is a blue, bipedal frog-like Pokémon with a round body and muscular arms. It has bulbous eyes that protrude from the top of its head and its belly is covered by a white and black swirl. There appear to be white gloves on its hands, and it has rounded, digit-less feet. Poliwrath's body is almost entirely muscle, it also has zero percent body-fat.
"Grimmsnarl, the Bulk Up pokémon.", he introduces the next one who also strikes a different pose.
Grimmsnarl is a green-skinned humanoid Pokémon with most of its body covered in dark purple hair, except part of its face, its abdomen, its feet and a small red patch on its chest. Like its pre-evolutions, Grimmsnarl has large crescent-shaped ears with red insides, albeit they are longer on this form. Its long, sharp nose points upward and has a single long red nostril. It has a blue tongue and six teeth protruding from its mouth, the front four of which are flat, two on each jaw, while its upper jaw also has one sharp fang on each side. It has white eyes with red irises and black pupils, and grey eyelids. Its face ends in a small pointy chin. Grimmsnarl's hands and feet have three pointed digits each. Most of its long hair wraps around its body, except for a lock on each side of its face, a few spikes raised on its shoulders and some locks draping from behind its legs resembling a cape. While being bulkier than its pre-evolutions, Grimmsnarl is more slender than it appears to be, with its hair giving the appearance of a muscular body.
"And Machamp, the Super Power pokémon.", he introduces the last pokemon who also strikes a different pose.
Machamp is a large, humanoid Pokémon with four well-muscled arms. It has bluish-gray skin, red eyes, and pale yellow lips. On its head, there are three brown ridges right above its eyes. It has two arms on each side of its body: a pair located in the normal position, and another pair directly above that attaches on the top of the shoulders. It has black markings that resemble briefs and wears a golden power-save belt that resembles a championship belt. Its legs have considerable muscle tone, and its feet have two toes each.
The crowd awes at each pokemon presented before them, and in short, they all look ridiculously powerful and strong.
"The game is simple, if you can beat Hawlucha in a match of arm wrestling, then you proceed to Poliwrath and so on. And if you can beat all of them then you win the secret prize.", Gar explains briefly before explaining the more detailed parts. "The rules of this game are simple. You are to out strength the opposing Pokemon and then move on to the next one. Every rule stated for normal arm wrestling applies, however if you have a quirk you are allowed to use it to your advantage. However you are not allowed to use it to harm the opposing Pokemon. If you do, you are disqualified even if you win.", all around the many teens of the crowd looked on with nervous excitement to approve their strength and gain some recognition. Seeing the audience's reaction, he smiled and asked boldly, "Now who wants in?!"
Soon a huge line of wannabe competitors lined up into a near pile up in an attempt to test their strength against the pokemon. One by one they all fell fast as they came, always being defeated by either Hawlucha or Poliwrath. At this point in the 'compensation', if you could call it that, almost no progress was being made. And all in all, the crowd was getting pretty bored seeing students get one shot one after the other woth no struggle. That is until two competitors made it to the final rounds and really spiced things up!
First of which was none other than 1-A's very own beefy boy, Rikido Sato! Who had to eat one sugar pack after the other in order to make it to the final round with Machamp. In preparation for the last challenge he scarfed down at least 10 in one go! After consuming the sugar he roared out a war cry, sat down so hard on the stone seat and slammed his elbow so hard on the stone table that both cracked to form perfect indents!
After recovering from the sight of Sato's…..whatever, Gar shook his surprise away and said to the boy, "Gotta say, I'm impressed you've gotten this far Rikido. Let's see if you can handle the strength of Machamp? The strongest pokemon alive! So strong that it can move entire mountains around!"
Hearing this, Sato's face immediately dropped from determined energy to pure anxiety as he asked with sweat already forming on him, "R-Really?"
Gar held back a light and overstated with a wave, "Nah! That's just an old Jynx tale. They're not that strong…. unless they dynamax."
Sato breathed a sigh of relief, but then revved himself back up for his challenger who was looking at him strangely. If it wasn't for the fact the pokemon in front of him wasn't just human looking, but also had some serious human-like expressions which was really off putting! Not only that, its expression was really strange. So much so it made his skin crawl. He wondered why the pokemon was looking at him like that, and then it winked.
Realizing how it was looking at him, he got Gar's attention and asked, "Um...why is Machamp giving me bedroom eyes? It's creeping me out!"
Gar looked between the two before looking abc at Sato and saying aloud, "Oh! Don't worry about it too much, she just likes you."
"Oh good, for a second there I thought-What?", Sato immediately drew out with his eyes shrinking at his explanation.
Noticing his expression and reaction, Gar explained further, "Oh! Did I not tell you? Machamp is a girl."
"What!?", Sato immediately yelled in surprise while jumping up! Which was soon followed by a unison of 'Eh' by literally everyone in the crowd!
Gar looked around extremely confused by everyone's expressions and reactions, unsure of what to make of it. But after taking a moment to connect the dots, then he told everyone, "Why's everyone so surprised? Machamp is a living breathing species of Pokemon, they got to reproduce somehow. What do you think those black markings on its upper torso are?"
Sato's eyes fell down on Machmaps body, more specifically its chest, and saw that it looked like it was wearing a black sports bar with a black speedo. He immediately felt his face flush with embarrassment and shock as he stammered out in a huge mess of himself, "W-W-Wait! What!? I just-i don't-it doesn't...huh!? Do you mean that's not a sports bar and speedo?"
Gar cocked an eyebrow at the question and immediately blew it off stating, "Clothes? Pokemon don't wear clothes. Anything on Pokemon's body that appears to be clothing is just that, a part of their body. Those darker areas on Machamps skin are actually more hardened sections of skin since it's so tender in those regions."
"Then how is it wearing that belt?", Sato asked while pointing down to the champions belt Machmp was wearing, which literally was made of leather and metal.
Gar opened his mouth to answer, but no sound came out, only a look of realization on his face that the camera around him caught the moment it dawned. He dropped his head while thinking, but after a few moments of extremely gruesome anticipation he eventually gave up and told him, "...you know, I don't have a clue. Maybe we shouldn't think about it too hard. Let's just get back to arm wrestling."
Sato looked back at the pokemon, who was still giving him 'the look' and asked with a shiver, "Okay, But why is it giving me bedroom eyes? She can see I'm a human, right?"
"Well Machamp's and humans do look very similar to one another, and female Machamp love mates with big muscles, big arms, and big lips: and you fit most of that description.", Gar casually explains, making Sato sweat drop in annoyance. He looked back at Machamp and saw the Pokémon make a kissy face with her…face. A disgusted shiver ran up his spine and seeing this, Gar reassured him saying, "Don't think of it in any weird way, just focus on the arm wrestling and not on her face that wants to be all over yours.", Soto almost puked after hearing that while locking hands with the muscular Pokemon. "Ready?", He asked as Sato's hands began to sweat, and his grip over controlling his lunch was slowly slipping. "Go!", Gar shouted! Only for Machamp to easily throw his arm down without any resistance. Leaving a very pale face Sato sitting there in a stupefied, and disgusted shock.
Gar sucked in a breath while exclaiming, "Oh what a shame, you lost, better luck next time.", He then quickly shoved Sato out of the seat and called out, "NEXT!"
Like last time, several contestants came up and barely got as far as Poliwrath before getting beat without too much of a fight. That is until another student took the seat and easily toppled over both Hawlucha and Poliwrath with ease before only having some trouble with Grimsnarl. It was none other than another of 1-A's own students; the land octopus himself with a possible ninja fetish, Mezo Shoji. After taking the seat across from Machamp, Gar commend him for his current triumphs.
"Well Mezo, I'm impressed with you too. Able to make it all the way to Machamp, let's see if you can beat her?", He's slightly jostled him to psych him up and gained the suspense of the crowd.
Mezo looked across at his last opponent and immediately saw her fluttering her eyelashes. Seeing this he pointed to the Pokemon and asked Gar, "Okay why is it giving me bedroom eyes now?"
"I guess she likes you too.", Gar said nonchalantly with a shrug.
Raising an eyebrow at the statement he prompted further, "But I don't look anything like a Machamp. Plus I have six arms."
Rubbing his chin and thought, Gar then told him, "Well in the eyes of a Machamp, the more arms the better."
Shoji looked back at his opponent who then blew him a kiss with one of her hands. He sweat dropped and told the Pokémon, "Stop doing that."
"Ready?", Gar-cut in nearly making them both flinch as they locked hands in preparation.
They both glared at each other down as they waited for Gar to say the magic word, "Go!"
The two of them started with equal force! But unlike with Sato, Shoji didn't falter under Machamp's Eros gaze. He was stern and centered as he focused all his might into fighting against the Pokémon nearly overpowering strength! Barely being able to move the others arm even an inch they kept at it until both grab the table with their opposing arms to anchor themselves down! Even to the point of nearly standing up in their seats.
They kept going in a stalemate, looking as if both were equal on all grounds. Unless one looked at their faces. In which they would see Shoji's expression had turned to bright red strain and Machamp looked far more calm and relaxed. As if she was merely playing with or Entertaining the multi-arm teen.
But then the Pokémon pulled a fast one on Shoji and placed her other secondary arm on top of her own. Then without a moment to think on the boys part, Machamp slammed his hand to the opposite end of the table without any trouble! Leaving the poor teen to gawk at what just happened.
"Oh! So close! Well, better luck next time.", Gar said quickly while trying to pull the tall teen out of the seat for the next person.
"Wait a second that's not fair.", Shoji exclaimed while digging his heels into the ground, making Gar slam into his back! After shaking the pain from his nose, he looked at the teen and heard him say, "She used both arms on her body, that's cheating."
"Actually it's not.", Gar debunked him while rubbing the pain from his nose. "All the rules say is that two players must lock they're dominant arm with the opposing player, and all players are not allowed to use their opposite arm to aid them. It doesn't say anything about using multiple arms on one side of the body.", He explained further for the confused teen. "But I do see your point and I'll allow you on this one time to have a redo.", He accepted his grievous.
The teen and pokémon sat back down at the table and locked hands once more. This time Shoji used all three of his hands while Machamp used both.
"Ready?", Gar prepared them for the start, leading Shoji to nod and Machamp to wink at the multi-armed team. "Go!", Gar suddenly shouted without warning, and the two were off!
Unfortunately for Shoji, Machamp was now using her full strength and not just half. Even though Shoji had the advantage in numbers of arms without natural inhibitors due to unused body parts, Machamp was still stronger. And like last time, she played with the boy as he struggles to move her arms even an inch in the opposite direction. With one yawn from Machamp, she slammed the teens arms to the opposite side with no issue!
Gar sucked in a breath through his teeth and exclaimed, "Well your second and last chance has been used. Too bad try again next time. NEXT!", and with that the competition continued as last time.
For a good while it seemed that no one would be able to make it past Poliwrath, let alone Machamp at best. It started to seem like one one would win this challenge. But then someone came and dashed that thought with his victory.
It was Izuku. At first no one, not even the Pokémon thought this short scrawny looking kid could ever be able to make it to the final round, let alone finish the first one. But he did. He beat both Hawlucha and Poliwrath with near ease just from using his normal strength, and the fact they didn't take their opponents seriously.
Then it came to Grimsnarl, who actually took Izuku as a serious opponent, and was locked in a stalemate for almost 30 seconds until it started to gain the upper hand. That's when Izuku got desperate and activated his quirk just enough to overpower the hairy troll looking Pokemon. And luckily he didn't do any serious damage to himself or any for that matter. But she was very happy for himself.
And then he finally reached his last opponent, Machamp. The tall gray skinned forearms Pokemon took a seat across from the smaller green haired teen and stared him down with vicious determination.
Gar, looking from the side, was very impressed with the younger teens' current achievement and commended him for it, saying, "Well! I never expected you of all people to get here, Izuku. Think you're up to the challenge?"
Izuku gave him a determined smile, which made the older smile back with excitement as he prepared them saying, "Alrighty then! Get ready."
The human and the human-looking Pokemon both locked arms in a tight grip staring each other down waiting for the beginning. Both parties waited anxiously along with the crowd that had a collective hush over it. With nearly everyone seemingly leaning forward to watch what would occur.
Gar let the suspense drag on another few seconds longer before suddenly shouting, "Go!"
The two of them were off with another stalemate. Or should I say that Izuku was off and trying his hardest against the Pokémon, who looked almost bored with the amount of effort that Izuku was putting in. The pokémon simply yawned as she easily held the young teens hand back with minimal effort and one hand. Even going so far is to look at the nails on her hands with disinterest towards the competition. While Izuku struggled and strained too much to budge the pokémons hand the other way.
Eventually this stalemate continued on for another 2 minutes in pure boredom, until Machamp had enough and decided to end it off now. So with only a bit of her strength she pulled Izuku's arm in the opposite direction in one swift and sudden motion! She expected to hear Gar call out Izuku's failure and push him off quickly for the next round of losers.
But no such thing came.
In fact, not even the sound of her hand slamming Izuku's to the other end of the table and his defeated grunt sounded in her ear holes. She finally looked back at her opponent and saw that his hand was only gently floating near centimeters from the opposite end of the table. The pokémon looked up at the smaller teen and saw a look of pure determination on his bright red face, pinched off in strain to keep his hand aloft! A look she had only ever seen in Gar! And being on the receiving end of it made her shudder!
The slight distraction was just enough for Izuku to move the mighty pokémon arm back up to their previous stalemate position. Machamp quickly caught on to what was happening and adjusted her strength to hold the teens sudden burst of strength and willpower back into place. With another swift movement, she used a little more strength to try and push the teens arm back down, but once his arm was only centimeters from touching the other end of the table it stopped! The Pokemon was in awe, the crowd was in awe, the students surrounding the two were in awe, even Gar was in awe!
But the Pokemon quickly shook herself out of her awestruck moment and proceeded to use all her strength to try and push down the teenagers' arm completely! But even using the full strength of just one of her arms the Pokemon still couldn't even budge the green teens arm by even a bit. This worried Machamp but also excited her greatly! Now she finally had a worthy opponent to wrestle with and it filled her with such zeal it made her skin tingle!
Izuku knew he couldn't keep this game up with just one hand and will power alone! If he was going to win he needed to use his quirk, even if it meant hurting myself a little bit! He managed to hold off one of the strongest Pokemon in the entire world by willpower alone when it was disinterested and then used the full strength of just one of its arms. If he could do that then he could sure as hell control his quirk enough to win this!
So concentrating as hard as he could he generated all for one throughout his shoulder and up to his fingertips, but tried to control the output and flow of it so this way he would only use a very small amount of it! And the results of his determined willpower and concentration paid off heavily as he slowly began to move the Pokémon's arm in the opposite direction until they were both fully erect in the air back in the same stalemate position they were before!
Machamp was shocked by this revelation for a moment, but only a moment. In a mere instant she then locked her second hand on her right arm over his and this time began to use the full strength of both her arms on the teens! Izuku struggled and strained once more to hold back the enormous power of the Pokemon and in a last ditch effort to overcome on top he pumped even more all for one into his arm at a near dangerous amount where he felt like his bones were already beginning to crack! The crowd watched on in awe and anticipation as a collective gasp and roars of low muttering exploded all around at the ever-increasing tension and power flowing all over the stadium from the two beings!
However this gamble paid off greatly for him and with one last final war cry he was able to fully overpower and slam down the extremely strong Pokemon's arm on the opposite end of the table securing him victory! Try as she might, Machamp knew when she was bested, and even while she was on the losing end, she gave it all her strength to fight back! But her arms were no better than wet noodles and flopped just like noodles.
For several seconds there was utter and dead silence amongst everyone watching! Izuku was out of breath along with Machamp who was struck in pure dumbfounded at seeing not one but both of her hands slammed down at the opposite end of the table! It was truly an amazing sight to behold a Machamp bested at their own game and the shock and disbelievement strong across its face!
No one said a thing, even breathing seed too loud in this case, until Gar was the one to finally pipe up and scream at the top of his voice, "AND WE HAVE OUR WINNER!"
The entire crowd, alongside the heroes, and other students all exploded in a roar of excitement that was loud enough for Izuku to bring at the growing noise that didn't cease to die down!
After the crowd's roars of cheers lowered enough for Gar to speak over the mic, he stated exuberantly, "Congratulations Izuku! You've won the Strength Test! And such, won the mystery prize!"
Gar then turned around and pulled out a tray with something on it, covered in a colored sheet from…. somewhere on his body. He approached the warily standing teen and presented it before him. Izuku wondered what the mystery prize could be and was somewhat excited to see the outcome from all his hard work.
Gar then pulled the cloth off and exclaimed, "Here it is! A Kings Rock!"
Set before the young green teen was a strange looking rock that seemed to be carved in the visage of a crown. Colorful pebbles adorned it like jewels and it's surface looked coarse and uncomfortable.
He looked at Gar inquisitively, who responded with a brief summary of the object. "Normally this strange stone is used to make opposing Pokemon flinch or evolve Poliwhirl and Slowpoke into Politoed and Slowking respectively. But today it's a symbol of great strength! Strength to tuple and become a king! Wear it well.", He told Izuku while taking the rock and placing it over his head.
It was actually really itchy and pointed to wear on his head, and kinda heavy. But for some reason it was a perfect fit. Even so he was filled with happiness and pride at his accomplishment. Which was sent home further when Gar grabbed his still sore and throbbing hand and raised it into the air to show his victory! The crowd went wild with another loud roar of cheers and applause, which made Izuku grin ear to ear with happy tears in his eyes?
As Gar dropped Izukus hand and shooed him off he took notice of the other students' extremely angry or downtrotened faces.
Gar sighs at this and says to them, "Now don't get all butt hurt or frustrated everyone. There are still two more games and two more mystery prizes for you to get.", this perked everyone up as they all looked towards the older teen with glimmers of hope in their eyes. "So get ready for the next challenge!", Gar exclaimed while pumping his fists into the air as the crowd cheered.
Gar then gave a nod to Cementoos, who was off to the side, and immediately five small waist height pillars erupted in the center with a center base plate being circled by the pillars. A few worker bots came out onto the center of the arena and deposited five bird cages that were covered by a sheet. Each bot placed one cage on each pillar and left where Gar took center of the display. Everyone in the crowd was silent in confusion as they looked on at what this new event was.
Gar cleared his throat and explained to the watching crowds, "This challenge is much different, in which it will be testing your observation and intelligence. This will be a more…. advanced version of 'One of These Things Are Not Like the Other's.", Gar then went to each cage and opened the doors under each cover. "I will present five pokémon that are all the same….or are they?", Gar said mysteriously. Suspense gripped the crowds as they all leaned in the temptation of curiosity.
"It will be your job to decipher which is the real one amongst the fakes. And for those of you who need a visual, here what I mean!", Gar exclaimed as five figures dashed from out of the covered cages and stood in the center platform!
The crowd was almost lulled into a sense of wonder and surprise until they immediately dropped into disappointment of what they were actually being treated to. On the center platform were five identical pokemon. All of them just being plain old Bidoof. Nothing wondrous or really amazing.
Gar smiled at the reaction gained from the blasé da appearance of the pokemon. With a sly smile crossing his lips he said to the crowd, "Nothing out of the ordinary, eh? Just five pokémon that look exactly alike. But that's where you're wrong.", this got a collective confusion murmuring amongst the crowds and students, which Gar enjoyed immensely.
Without a second of hesitation, Gar immediately announced with excitement, "Ladies and gentlemen, behold! Mimikyu, the Disguise pokémon.", in a moment, one of the Bidoofs ripped off an obviously poorly made costume of its likeness and revealed a poorly made Pikachu costume underneath it.
"Zorua, the Tricky Fox pokémon.", Gar introduced as one of the Bidoofs jumped into the air, illuminated and became an entirely different creature.
Zorua is a slate gray, fox-like Pokémon with red and black accents. Its ears are triangular with dark insides, and it has a large tuft of fur tipped with red on top of its head. It has greenish-blue eyes with red eyelids. There are circular, red markings above the eyes that resemble eyebrows. Its muzzle is short and tapered with two small fangs seen in the upper jaw when its mouth is open. Zorua possesses a ruff of black fur around its neck and four short limbs tipped with red. Its tail is short and bushy. The pokemon gigged at the crowds' stunned reactions.
"Ditto, the Transform pokémon.", Gar introduced as another of the Bidoof, with an usual face, suddenly turned into goo and reformed.
Ditto is a light-purple or pink, amorphous Pokémon with vestigial facial features. The face consists of a simple mouth and beady eyes. It also appears to have two pseudopods protruding from its body that it uses as arms. The pokemon simply drools at the stunned sight of the crowds.
"And Mew, the New Species pokémon.", Gar exuberant introduced the last pokemon as it too turned into a goo-like light source that floated into the air and ford into a different pokemon.
Mew is a pink, bipedal Pokémon with mammalian features. It has a rounded, wide snout; triangular ears; and large, blue eyes. It has short arms with three-fingered paws and large hind paws with oval markings on the soles. Its tail is long and thin with an ovoid tip. Its fur looks fine and thin. The pokemon then giggles at the reaction of the crowds and affecontily flies over to Gar where it lodges itself into his hood and cuddles around his neck.
Gar pats the pokemon head and says to the crowd, "Look alike, copycats, shapeshifters, doppelgangers, whatever you wanna call em. It is your task to distinguish the real one from all of these. Now who wants to go first?!"
This event went much like the last. Only this time there wasn't a system of difficulty; one strike and you were out! It was made even harder when the pokemon dashed back into the different cages, they would all come out as a different pokemon. First it was a Bidoof, a Hoot Hoot, a Scatterbug, a Metapod, a Clauncher and so on. It was never the same pokemon twice, or the same pokemon in the same spot. There was also a time limit; If you could decide within 1 minute, you are out! No second chances or tries!
Every time someone went up to choose the real from the fake, they always got it wrong and were shooed off for the next person. It was beginning to look like no one would get it...until someone dashed that thought aside, again. And it was the same fluffy head of green hair that put a smile on Gar's face, and put a frown on many other students' faces: since there was no rule saying a previous winner could participate after a win.
"Well well, if it isn't our previous first place winner. Here to try your luck again. I can assure you this has to do with the strength of your observation skill. So good luck!", Gar somewhat chastised him in good spirits.
Izuku only looked at the group of pokémon, which was now a group of Chikorita, for ten seconds before asking aloud, "Can I eliminate some of the pokémon?"
Gar opened his mouth to answer, but stopped. He momentarily regarded the question and then replied nonchalantly, "I don't see why not? Go right ahead."
"Hey!", A voice suddenly cut into their conversation. Gar turned to the voice, but didn't see the origin. The voice then called out angrily, "You never said we couldn't eliminate the wrong ones! Why didn't you say something before!?"
"Why didn't you ask?", Gar shot back with sass on his tone. He then turned back to Izuku and prompted him forward with, "Continue."
Izuku turned back to the five pokémon and pointing at two of them he stated, "These two are fakes, more specifically Mimikyu and Ditto."
Gar's eyes widened with shock at the sudden and straightforward proclamation!
After shaking the shock from his head he asked the green teen, "Wow! A two shot straight off the bat! What makes you say that?"
Izuku smiles awkwardly as he says, "Mimikyu was kind of obvious, sorry, and Ditto forgets 'certain' details.", Mimikyu takes off its disguise with a very saddened expression that makes the audience coo, and Ditto's face simply falls off to the side a bit as it takes its original form
"Well your right on both accounts! Nice work! Now it narrows down to three.", Gar exclaims while motioning to the remaining pokemon.
Izuku studied the faces of the remaining pokemon and after a few seconds he noticed a slight gleam in one of their eyes along with a held back smirk.
He takes a breath and with his mind made up he points to one of the pokemon and says, "That one. That's the other fake."
"You sure?", Gar asks him as he responds with a nod. Gar raises an eyebrow and says, "Well let's see if he's right folks.", the Chikorita he points to then gives him an impish smile and jumps into the air where light is produced and Zorua appears in front of them. "Oh Wow! Right again! How'd you know? Zorua is a pretty good shapeshifter.", Gar exclaims in question as the crowd cheers!
Izuku rubs the back of his head with eyes closed and tells him, "It's something in the eyes….and that smile.", as he says this, Zorua turns its head and giggles with its trademark smile.
Gar nods at his explanation and says, "Well nice eyes, but now things get really tough here! Your chances are 50/50, and you're trying to decide which is the real one, and which is Mew.", Gar motioned to the last two pokemon who looked like carbon copies.
Izuku steps forward to try and decipher the real from the fake, until Gar cuts off his train of thought and tells him, "A word of warning though, Mew isn't just a shapeshifter. It's a shape-shifter among shapeshifters, it can copy any living thing on the genetic level, so the differences are uncanny! Good luck."
Izuku studies both pokemon closely. He looks all around them and even examines them by picking them up and even touching them. But what he found was Gar to be completely right! Everything about these two pokemon were completely uncanny! There was no difference at all; even right down to their expressions! Time was ticking away fast and Izuku had to make a decision fast! The pressure was on and everyone could feel it as the clock winded down to just ten seconds!
"It's.", Izuku tried to form a decision but couldn't. "It's.", he tried again, but still couldn't make a coherent decision!
It was really starting to get to nail biting tension as even Gar looked on in suspense for the answer; holding ditto so tight in his arms that it was spreading all over his sweatshirt! Even more so as the clock struck five seconds. So students even tried to cheer him on with controlled tones.
Then an idea struck his mind! And with only a few seconds remaining he pulled both his eyes into a cross formation and watched for the reaction of both pokemon. The Chikorita on the left only cocked its head to the right while the Chikorita on the left gave a closed eyed smile.
Figuring out his answer, he finally pointed to the Chikorita on the left and said as time ran out, "It's…..it's this one! This one is the real pokemon!"
"Are you sure?" Gar asked while shaking him out of his tension, to which Izuku wordlessly nods. "Alrighty then! Let's see if you're right?", Gar says as he gives the okay to the pokemon. In an instant the Chikorita on the right immediately morphs back into Mew! "AND IT IS!", Gar yelled with excited joy as the crowd and other students went wild with echoing cheers! Much to Izuku's own surprise and excitement!
Gar roughly yet encouragingly pats Izuku's back as he says, "Congratulations Izuku! You've won the grand mystery prize!", he then takes another covered object from somewhere again and ripping off the cover he exclaims, "Behold!"
"WOW!...what is it?", Izuku goes from excited to blasé da at seeing the object.
"These are what I like to call 'All Terrain Goggles'. I got them from a scientist friend of mine. With these on your face you can travel in any weather conditions like it was a crystal clear day. It even works underwater with the breathing apparatus. A sign of true foresight to see past the haze and look for the true goal ahead! Use them well.", Gar explains while placing the odd looking white goggles into his hands.
Izuku shakes his head and trying to make Gar take the goggles back he says, "I can't accept these. Especially if you got them from a friend!"
"Take them, really. You've earned them.", Gar smiled proudly at him while pushing the goggles back into the smaller teens unusually meaty hands. He then sly tells him in a silent voice with a giggle, that's still heard over the speakers, "Besides; I have a better pair."
After Izuku walker back into the crowd of students, who had since lost their excitement after losing their chance of winning twice to the same person, Gar turned back to the crowd of aspiring heroes and told them, "And now everyone it's time for the final event!"
The crowds and students all cheered and hollered and excitement, as Gar went on, "In this last game, all participants will have to use their intelligence and strength if they want to win!", the crowds and students all softly murmured to one another in confusion of the final game. seemingly sensing what they were thinking about Gar addressed to them saying, "What is this game you may ask? Well it's an advanced form of Hide-n-Go-Seek Tag. One of my pokemon will wear a special scarf around their neck. It's your job to snag that scarf from them."
At the thought of going up against another Pokemon in a game of cat and mouse, the students all began to become visibly tense. But Gar reassured them saying, "But don't worry, the pokemon will not attack you. Unless you use your quirk to attack them, in which case you will be disqualified and have to suffer the wrath of my pokemon.", a collective sigh of relief swept over the students as they heard this explanation to which Gar continued saying, "Apart from that you can use your quirk to try an snatch the scarf."
"That's it? HA! This'll be easy! Especially with so many people overwhelming it! This'll be a cake walk!", a student in the crowd boastfully proclaimed, making many of the students of 1-A sweat at his words.
All of their eyes fell upon Gar who was now sporting a malicious smile and said to the person in the crowd of teens, "Oh? Is that what you think? That this'll be easy?", his wording and tone of voice made the entire sea of participants all begin to tense up, sweat and shake with nervousness. Gar smiled at seeing their reactions and drove the feeling even further as he said, "Perhaps I should...elaborate on which pokemon you are up against."
Hey Everyone, sorry this chapter took so long to upload, but it was my computer yet again! It finally broke for the last time and I couldn't use it. And I lost interest in tying it up on my phone from general frustration. The good news is I got my tax return check from the gov and I used it to buy a new one last weekend, and now its smooth sailing from here on! I got some chapters mapped out in dial augh, but it'll still take tie to fill in the meat. But for now I hope you enjoyed this long one and thanks for being patient with me. Love you guys!
