Ch43
Magnus sighed as he got off the ground. "You are getting better Magnus Chase," Samirah said as she took a step back.
He sighed as he got off the ground, "Thanks but you are still kicking my ass every time."
"Yeah but you are lasting longer; I think you almost had her," Percy said as he sat on the sides with the other girl Mallory.
"Yeah don't forget children of Loki are sneaky they will always find a way to win," Mallory said earning a glare from Samirah.
He noticed Samirah glare at Mallory and grip her ax tightly but she said nothing. It didn't take an expert to anyone that Samirah did not get along with her compatriots. From what he understood Gunilla loathed her and Mallory was more or less neutral towards her while TJ was the only one who was really nice to her.
"Well either way she is a good fighter," Percy said.
"Yeah I'm glad she is my bodyguard," he said. He notices Samirah smile at both of them as if to say thanks.
"Yes I do my job well," Samirah said as she put away her ax.
"Oh I wanted to ask are there a lot of living Norse demigods? You are the only one who is alive that we know of," Percy asked.
Mallory looked away as Samirah sighed, "There are but I haven't met many."
"Yeah we don't have a camp like you Greeks," Mallory said as she played with her knives. "It would be cool though."
"Wow that sounds rough," Percy said. "I mean we have a safe place to train and everything."
"Well our main job is to prepare for Ragnarök," Mallory said. "While it would be helpful to have a camp for the living children of our Gods, Lord Odin hasn't decided on making one yet."
"True but it would be interesting to have one," Samirah said.
"Oh Samirah how do your guardians feel about you being away a lot?" He asked. He knew that Sam's mother died and that she lived with her grandparents put she was a little secretive about her personal life.
Samirah sighed and looked up at the sky, "They don't know anything about my life as a Valkyrie. I just tell them that I am busy with school."
"It must be rough keeping your life a secret from them," Percy said in a sympathetic tone. "Do you think they would be open to it in the future?"
Samirah shook her head, "I doubt it. It's not that I don't want to tell them though, them and someone else," she said looking to the side as her face turned slightly red.
"Well I am sure things will work out for you. I appreciate you training and helping us," he said.
Samirah nodded, "Thanks but for now I want to focus on my job of protecting you."
"Yes true besides you both are entertaining," Mallory said with a smile.
"Oh did you both still want to join us later for when we battle those monsters?" Percy asked.
He and Percy had gone on a few missions to disrupt Kronos's army, that afternoon they were planning to attack some lamia that were apparently located. Samirah, Hearth, and Blitz usually joined them since they were assigned to protect him while Mallory and TJ joined them once in a while.
"Of course I love fighting Greek monsters," Mallory said.
Samirah nodded, "Yeah I have to protect Magnus so I will assist you guys as much as we can."
"Great," Percy said. "Are you sure you guys don't need help with the transportation?"
Mallory shook her head, "Nah I won't have trouble besides Samirah here can fly."
Samirah nodded though he noticed that she looked a bit disappointed. "Yeah I can fly though your pegasi do look cool," she said avoiding their gaze.
"Well if you want maybe you can ride one when we are done," Percy said.
He swore Samirah's eyes lit up, "Um sure if we have time of course," she said.
He and Percy smiled at each other. They knew Samirah liked flying and she would often look at Blackjack and ask about Pegasi but they she hasn't been able to ride one yet because she always had to return home or something.
"Well Blitz and Hearth are scouting the area for us we will leave after we rest a bit," he said. Percy and Samirah nodded as they sat and talked a bit. Mallory ended up leaving early to assist Hearth and Blitz in monitoring the area and he was left with Percy and Samirah.
When it was time to leave their pegasi came down to greet them. "We will meet you there," he said.
Samirah nodded as he and Percy got onto their horses and flew through the sky. As they flew he saw Samirah fly near them keeping a watchful eye on them. She must really like flying he thought as he saw that she would look at the pegasi in awe. She had mentioned a few times how she wanted to be a pilot and how she enjoyed flying as a Valkyrie.
"Hey kid if your Norse friend wants to ride us we don't mind," His pegasi said in his head.
"Thanks. We will ask her later if she wants to ride you guys or not," he said as they flew through the sky.
They eventually made it to the rendezvous point where Hearth, Blitz, and Mallory were waiting for him. "Hey guys thanks for coming," he said.
Hearth waved at him while Blitz smiled, "No problem we were scouting this area for you guys. The Lamia are up ahead there are about a dozen of them," Blitz said.
"Great what is the layout of the area?" Percy asked.
"There is a cave near a lake up ahead where they are located they appear to be resting now," Blitz said.
"Great a lake is more than what we need," Percy said with a smile. "I'll work by the lake Magnus can you and Mallory fight on the ground and Samirah can you support us from the sky?"
"Sounds good," he said as Mallory and Samirah nodded.
"Good, and can you to support us from behind?" Percy asked Hearth and Blitz.
"No problem we will keep you all safe," Blitz said as Hearth nodded in agreement.
"Well then lets get going," he said as they all nodded. He activated Sigurd's armor and his shield as he gripped Gram. Percy drew Riptide as Samirah and Mallory readied their weapons.
They all carefully approached the lake and they saw the Lamias on the other side of the lake. "I will head to the lake," Percy whispered. He nodded as Percy carefully went to the lake and entered it.
"I'll be watching from the sky and assist from there," Samirah said. He and Mallory nodded as she headed towards the trees and disappeared.
He then turned to Blitz, Hearth, and Mallory, "Well lets go," he said. They all nodded as they carefully approached the Lamia.
However, as the got close to the enemy monster they were noticed and the Lamias let out a shriek. Their cries were piercing and he had to activate his helmet to block it out a bit as they charged at him. The Lamia were half snake and half woman varying in size from a teen to one that looked like an adult.
He swung his sword Gram as Mallory charged with her knives. He chopped off one of the hands of the Lamia and quickly removed its head in another swipe just as another tried to claw at him. How man of these things are there he thought as he took out the Lamia. He looked around there appeared to be around two dozen of them.
Mallory fought like an animal as she sliced her way through the monsters while Samirah would swoop down and decapitate them with her ax. He had to admit that Samirah was an amazing fighter. The way she fought was ferocious and he could tell that she was analyzing each and every step accordingly.
He continued to fight the monsters with the help of Samirah and Mallory when Percy came out of the water. He summoned a wave of water that crashed down onto the monsters and took out many of them with his sword.
"Hey Percy mind drying us off?" He asked as his armor was wet and Mallory was soaked, Samirah managed to fly up in time and avoided getting wet.
"Sorry," Percy said sheepishly as he went up to both of them and touched their shoulders and the water fell from their bodies.
"Thanks but be careful I thought I was going to drown," Mallory said as she looked at the remaining monsters. "Looks like we have on left."
They turned to face the last Lamia which was the size of an adult. The upper body was a dark skinned woman with long black hair. "You will all pay," she hissed as she glared at them. "I will present your bodies to Lord Kronos."
"Guys watch out," he said as the giant Lamia lunged at them. They managed to avoid the monster and Mallory and Percy were soon on her. The Lamia screamed as she thrashed around and tried to slash them but they all were quick and managed to avoid her attacks.
Samirah swooped down and brought her ax down on the monster's shoulder. She let out a scream but just as Samirah was about to fly away the monster grabbed. "Samirah!" He yelled as the monster threw her to the side.
He ran as fast as he could and managed to catch Samirah but the force of her body sent them both flying to the ground. "Are you ok?" He asked as he helped her up.
Samirah nodded, "Thanks I am well and you?"
"Good lets finish this thing," he said. Samirah nodded and went to rejoin their friends. Hearth and Blitz assisted them from the side. Hearth casted a rune spell to help trap the Lamia while Percy and Mallory attacked her. He and Samira took care of the monster's arms just as Percy and Mallory dealt the finishing blow to her.
The monster let out a scream as she disappeared into golden dust. "We did it," he said in a sigh as he deactivated his armor. The others nodded as well as they rested by the lake.
"Were there any monsters in the lake?" Mallory asked Percy.
Percy shook his head, "No, none that I could see. Those things were tougher than I thought.
"Yes I've never had the experience of fighting those kinds of monsters before," Samira said as she landed next to them. "Are there any other monsters in the area you both need to take care of?"
He shook his head, "No we were only told to take care of the monsters here."
"Yeah and I don't think there are anymore," Percy said.
"I saw no more while in the skies," Samirah said as she looked around.
"Well I didn't detect any other monsters nearby so lets head back to the city," Blitz said. They all nodded and he and Percy got back tot heir Pegasi and they all returned back to New York.
"Samira thanks for helping us," He said to the Valkyrie as she flew besides them.
"Yeah you were of great help we enjoy working with you," Percy said.
Samirah gave them a small smile, "It was my pleasure I enjoyed working with you both. By the way thanks for catching me Magnus."
"No problem," he said. "Oh um if you want when we return to the city you can ride our Pegasi."
"Yeah you said you like flying right? Pegasi are fun to ride," Percy said.
Samirah's eyes widened and for a second he saw joy in them, "Um sure if its not a problem."
"It's not, Blackjack said that you can ride him," Percy said.
Samirah smiled and nodded, "Thanks I would love to ride one for a short amount of time."
"Great sounds like a plan then," he said as they made their way to the city.
When they got to a park they got off of their Pegasi and Percy introduced Samirah and Blackjack to each other while Hearth and Blitz watched from a park bench.
He watched her pet Blackjack and he could tell that she was quite happy petting Blackjack by the look in her face. Percy helped her up onto Blackjack as he gave her instructions on what to do. Samirah nodded and when Blackjack and her were ready they sped off into the sky.
"Well she looks like she is having fun," Blitz said as he and Hearth joined them in watching Samirah fly on Blackjack through the sky.
"Yeah she looks like she is enjoying herself," He said as he saw them fly through the sky.
"Hey Magnus do you think Samirah would like to visit camp?" Percy asked.
He was surprised by the question, "I'm not sure. I mean I can go but would it be ok if she went?"
Blitz and Hearth looked at each other as if not knowing what to say, "I'm not sure kid I mean do you think it would cause problems for you guys?"
"I doubt it, Chiron mentioned once that sometimes campers from other pantheons came," He said.
"Yeah I mean just to show her around and stuff we will ask her," Percy said. "I just asked because maybe she could see that there are other demigods and stuff." Hearth and Blitz exchanged an uneasy look but said nothing.
Eventually Samirah flew down. He and Percy helped her down, "Thanks that was super fun," she said with a smile on her face. She honestly looked as if she had just received the present of her dreams for her birthday.
"I'm glad you liked it," he said.
"Yeah oh we also wanted to ask you something," Percy said. "How would you like to visit our camp?"
Samirah's eyes widened, "You mean where the Greek demigods are?" she said in a soft tone that almost sounded like a whisper. "I mean am I allowed to enter? I don't want any problems for you guys."
"It shouldn't be a problem I mean I go all the time," he said. "If you want to see it you can just follow us around in your cape thing."
Samirah looked as if she were thinking of something, "I'll think about it."
"Cool you can even join us for capture the flag," Percy said. "I'm sure you will love it. You guys are welcome to visit as well we can let you both in," he said to Hearth and Blitz.
"We don't think that's a good idea but thanks for the offer," Blitz said as Hearth signed the same thing.
"Well the offer stand," Percy said. "Do you want to ride Blackjack back to your place?"
Samirah's face lit up again, "Sure I don't mind."
"Great," Percy said as he spoke with her and Blackjack about taking her home.
He looked at Hearth and Blitz who looked uneasy, "So is it really a bad idea if she goes?" He signed to them.
"It can be if things go bad," Hearth signed with a serious look on his face. "She seems trustworthy but I would be careful the Greek world is at war now and the last thing you need is to arouse suspicion."
He sighed and nodded, "I understand but she kind of seems lonely I think that is why Percy wants to show her the place. It will be quick just one day," he signed. "That is if she accepts at all."
Hearth nodded and sighed, "It is your choice but just be careful."
"I will," he signed. "You both are still welcome to come. Capture the flag is pretty fun."
"That's not a good idea," Blitz signed. "We aren't demigods."
Oh right that would be a mess in of its own if they get caught he thought as he signed, "Well the offer is open thanks for the help today."
They both nodded, "No problem," Hearth signed.
