CHAPTER 43
Caroline's alarm went off and she reached over to her nightstand and grabbed her phone. At first she was confused as to why it was going off so early but then remembered she had plans to go on a walk with Klaus to see the sunrise. As she dressed in a comfy pair of leggings and a warm sweater she hoped that she wasn't making a mistake. She hoped that the part of her that was craving to be around him wasn't going to get her in trouble. Just as she was finished up getting dressed her phone beeped with a new message.
'I am outside, Sweetheart. No rush, whenever you are ready.'
Caroline looked at herself in the mirror on her dresser then head outside to met Klaus.
"Hi." She said after walking outside.
Klaus was leaning against the railing looking far too good for this early in the morning. "Good morning, Love."
Caroline smiled. She could never deny how handsome he was. "So, I know a place that has a pretty good view of the sunrise."
"Lead the way, Sweetheart."
Caroline and Klaus walked through a small wooded area and up a large hill until they came to a clearing. The sky was a light blue and the sun would be due to begin its ascension into the sky.
"What made you ask me to come with you." Klaus asked not taking his eyes off the horizon.
Caroline was quiet for a few moments before speaking. "It's just that part of me that wants to be near you." She shrugged her shoulders and looked over at him.
Klaus let out a small laugh. "I am extremely grateful for that part."
"It's beautiful isn't it?" Caroline asked as she admired the incredible sky.
"I've seen things far more beautiful."
Caroline looked over at him and he was staring at her with a smile on his face. She rolled her eyes but then laughed and he joined her.
"I would like to spend some more time with you today." Klaus said looking between his hands and the sky in front of them. He was nervous, he didn't want her to decline. "If you don't have any other plans of course."
"What did you have in mind?" Caroline asked casually.
"Would you come back to my house? You used to love looking at my art…unless you would rather do something else."
"Sure." She said simply
Caroline stood up and Klaus followed.
Caroline sat with Klaus in his study and looked through his drawings of his family and people he had come across during his many years on earth. He was an incredibly talented artist; there was no denying that.
"These are so beautiful." She said not taking her eyes off the drawings. "It is a shame to keep them hidden away in this book." She looked up at him and gave him a small smile.
Klaus let out a small laugh. "I don't think anyone would care to look at them."
"Well I definitely like to." She said before going back to looking through the book.
Klaus smiled. "And that is just one of the reasons why I…" Klaus stopped himself. As much as he wanted to tell her he loved her, she didn't remember right now that he did. Klaus knew that was too much and he didn't want to make this even more difficult for her.
Caroline was a smart girl. Especially when it came to reading people. She knew very well what Klaus was going to say and she really respected him for not saying it. Hearing him say the words…it would just stress her out even more.
Caroline's phone beeped with a new message so she reached over and grabbed it out of her purse. It was Tyler.
'We need to talk Caroline. Please. Meet me at The Grill in a little bit?'
Caroline sighed.
"Something wrong, Love?"
"No. Not really." She said still staring at my phone. "It's Tyler." She looked up at him. "He wants to meet me at The Grill in a little while to talk."
"I can speak with him if you'd like?"
Caroline was silent for a moment. "No." She said with a smile. "I think I should meet with him.
"Sweetheart I don't think that is the best idea." Klaus said cautiously.
Caroline sighed. "Look, I am giving you a chance after everything you have done to my friends. Despite what my head is telling me I am here. I think I owe it to Tyler to at least give him a chance to appoigize." Caroline paused. "Plus we will be at The Grill, it's not like we will be alone in the woods."
Klaus sighed. "Fine if you insist on putting yourself in danger then I will be there."
"I can't stop you from going to a public place but you need to stay away form him. He will lose his temper if you are there with me."
Klaus sighed again. "I just want you to be safe." He said not looking at her.
Caroline placed her hand on his leg making Klaus immediately look over at her. "I know." She said with a smile.
Caroline walked into The Grill and immediately spotted Tyler. She was able to convince Klaus to wait a few minutes before coming in and sitting at the bar in the hopes that Tyler wouldn't notice him.
"Hey." She said as she took a seat across from Tyler. Just has her butt hit the chair Klaus walked in and made his way over to the bar.
"Hi Care." His eyes darted over to the bar and then back at Caroline. "Does he follow you everywhere now?"
"Don't worry about him."
"I thought you forgot everything that happened the past couple months."
"I didn't forget. Someone stole those memories from me. But Klaus showed me what I missed."
"I can only imagine what he showed you." Tyler said rolling his eyes.
"Is this why you asked me here? To talk bad about Klaus?"
Tyler shook his head. "Who are you? Do you remember what he did? How many people he has hurt…killed?"
Caroline shook her head. "I don't have to explain myself to you."
Tyler let out a loud sigh and then tried to start over again. "Look Care, I asked you here because I wanted to apologize to you for biting you, for losing my temper…" He paused and reached across the table placing his hand on mine. "I want to work on getting back together."
I heard glass break and my head immediately went to Klaus who was standing there with broken glass in his hands and on the floor by his feet.
I turned back to Tyler and pulled my hand away from his slightly. "Tyler."
"No, Caroline. I am not going to take no for an answer. We were so good together. We belong together. You don't belong with some monster."
"Tyler…" Caroline said in an aggravated tone. She knew he had every right to hate Klaus. She knew she had every reason to hate Klaus but that part of her that craved his company also didn't like when people spoke badly about him…no matter how true it might be. Caroline knew Klaus was on the verge of losing it, she knew she had to end this conversation with Tyler and soon. "Look Tyler we tried…but I just don't think it is a good idea for us to hang out. You are always on the verge of losing your temper and that is literally deadly for me." She said quietly so none of the other customers would hear her. Caroline stood up.
"I won't give up on us, Caroline."
"You need to move on Tyler, we aren't good for eachother." She said before leaving.
The moment Caroline hit the sidewalk Klaus appeared at her side. He obviously wasn't shy about using his hybrid abilities in public.
"Are you alright, Love?" He asked as they crossed the street.
Caroline stopped and sat down on the bench. "I don't even know how to answer that." She barely got out before the tears started falling. "And here I go crying again." She wiped some tears off her cheek. "I just want to wake up and feel normal again."
"When I get home I will immediately begin looking for another witch. I will not allow you to be this upset for an entire month.
Caroline looked over at him; he looked defeated with a mixture of anger. She could tell that the pain she was feeling form not knowing what had happened these past couple months really hurt him. Before her head could talk her out of it she leaned in and pressed her lips to his. Klaus was shocked but didn't waste anytime to respond.
