A/N: Aang confesses his truth...

Disclaimer: No.

Nice Try, Sokka

Sokka decided to check in on his little friend and sat down next to the Airbender looking over at his drawn tense face.

"How are you holding up, Buddy?" He asked quietly. Aang sat staring into the opposing wall from Zuko's door.

"It doesn't matter how I'm doing. I almost killed him Sokka. I'm afraid to kill the Fire Lord but I almost killed his son who is helping me... because I was jealous of him." He whispered. Sokka's eyes bucked.

"Wait, what do you mean jealous? Did you... know about Zuko and Katara?" he asked with shock and a little worry. Aang's jaw twitched as if he would cry again at any moment.

"Yes, I knew about their relationship, but I didn't want to accept it. Katara was supposed to be my forever girl." By now Aang was crying as he realized how ugly he had been toward his best friends. He allowed his unchecked emotions to bring out the worst in him and he was deeply ashamed of himself.

Aang didn't know how he would find redemption from his choices. He tried to force someone to love him whether they agreed or not. He wouldn't want to be treated that way and sobbed wiping his nose on his sleeve.

"Katara was right. She never told me she wanted to be with me. I wouldn't listen to anyone. Toph told me as much a while ago, but I had hoped…" his voice broke as he allowed the reality of what he had done to sink in fully.

Sokka sighed. This was a real mess. Sokka wasn't sure what his sister would do knowing Aang intentionally hurt Zuko. For both of their sakes, Zuko needed to pull through and live. Unbeknownst to either of the boys, Katara stood leaning against a hidden wall around the corner from them listening to the story with sorrow too deep to name.

She covered her mouth to keep from crying out and wiped the tears that came too quickly with her other arm. She wondered to herself what would have happened if she had told Aang sooner about her feelings or lack of them. Katara knew long before loving Zuko that she didn't love Aang or want him in that way, but Zuko was right; she did want to protect his fragile ego, and this was a situation she never wished for any of them.

Katara babied Aang when she should have given him the truth. She felt she was just as much to blame for this situation as Aang. It never should have gone on this long— "Katara, Come quickly!" Sokka called frantically. Katara ran down the hall her eyes wide with terror as she prayed it wasn't her worst fear. Sokka was smiling. "It's Zuko! He's waking up, sis." He said with a sigh of relief.
