Disenchanted

His words were more than true, she thought. It had been a very long time since she had thought of the arrangement their parents had come to when she was but still a pup and Toga barely out of the school room himself. They had known each other almost since birth, being only decades apart in age and very distantly related. As the heir apparent to the throne, Fuiasu had never had a choice of who she would mate.

As a female, there was no way she would be allowed to take the throne herself and so her mate had to be strong, so much stronger than the other Lords of the lands that she had thought it would be impossible. So when she found out the one boy she hated more than any in her classes was to be her mate, she had frozen, become cold and distant, speaking only when it pleased her to do so. s

He always teased her, always gave her trouble; from the smallest mistake in her appearance to the very markings she had been born with, especially the crescent that marked her brow.

Despite all of this, she hadn't been surprised when he had started to court her, to try and woo her. Who wouldn't want the chance to become Lord of all that he could see? He didn't seem to realize that his…indiscretions bothered her, that with each snarky comment he made when they were alone, she grew more and more disenchanted with him and with her life.
