The Invincible Spider-Man
Chapter 46: Prison Break
"This just in! Wilson Fisk, CEO of Fisk Industries, has been granted parole, and is now leaving the courthouse. The famous organized crime leader has confirmed that most of his income he's made will be redirected towards charity, particularly the F.E.A.S.T homeless shelters in Chinatown, Harlem and the Financial District. I'm Eddie Brock, and more news will be presented on this topic by the Daily Bugle." Said Eddie, on the news channel.
Fisk was back at his desk in Fisk tower, signing off contracts for his construction business, when a red and blue figure jumped through the open window. Fisk sighed for the annoyance that he knew would follow.
"Willie, you came back! Guessing the senior citizens home really was that boring?" asked Spider-Man, as Fisk chuckled.
"Four years…and you're still the same child," scoffed Fisk, putting his pen down.
"Now as much as I wanna fight you, and believe me I do, I'm here to ask a few questions," said Spider-Man.
"Well, you're partly the reason I'm out of that hellhole known as Ryker's. What is it?" asked Fisk.
"The Altruist. That name ring a bell?" asked Spider-Man.
"Never heard of it. Why?"
"Some new crime boss, I'm guessing. Thought you might know. Any chance you had any other secret sons and daughters?" asked Spider-Man, and Fisk looked visibly frustrated.
"Sylvio Manfredi is dead…Hammerhead fled to Europe…I don't think it's anyone from my time at least," replied Fisk. He hated it when he didn't know everything.
"Got it. And Fisk, don't do anything that even skirts around the definition of illegal. I won't need Daredevil's help to stop you this time," said Spider-Man.
"Watch your back, Spider-Man, there's a huge target on it," said Fisk, not making it sound like a threat. Spider-Man nodded and jumped out of the window.
Peter walked towards the grounds of Empire State University, with his luggage and Aunt May by his side.
"First day of college, I can't believe it!" said May.
"You can't believe I'd get into college?" joked Peter, as May punched him in the arm jokingly.
"You know if Ben were here, he'd say something like, "I knew you could do it, Peter. I'm surprised you didn't get into college when you were 12!" said May, and Peter chuckled.
"Yeah. Just wish he was here," said Peter.
"Me too. But at the same time, he always knew the man you'll become, and look at you, making it a reality," said May.
"Thanks May," said Peter. Just then, he felt someone tapping his shoulder. He turned around and saw Carlie Cooper.
"Hey Peter!" said Carlie, as Peter smiled.
"Oh hey! Aunt May, this is Carlie Cooper. Carlie, this is Aunt May," said Peter, as May shook Carlie's hand.
"Great to meet you!" said Carlie.
"This is a friend who I met at orientation last week," said Peter.
"Yep! Can't wait to start at ESU," replied Carlie.
"Peter's pretty excited too. He spent the last week reading the brochure over and over again!" laughed May.
"Anyways I should get going. Good luck Peter!" said May, teary-eyed as she hugged Peter again, and walked back towards the bus. Carlie and Peter walked into the university's grounds.
"Did you know that they keep a list of all the alumni. Apparently the best ones last year were Richard Rider and Doreen Green. Oh! Did you know that Reed Richards is an ESU alumni? I'm so stoked to attend the same university as Mister Fantastic himself!" said Carlie, overly excited.
"Wow, you really are excited about this!" said Peter.
"I sure am! So, what do you wanna do after university?" asked Carlie.
"I…really don't have an idea. Maybe a teacher?" suggested Peter, right off the top of his head
"I really wanna be a forensic scientist. I practically grew up reading Sherlock Holmes!" said Carlie.
"That's amazing! So you have like…everything planned out?" asked Peter.
"Yep! Well, more or less," said Carlie, as she headed to her assigned room, and Peter got the keys to his. He made his way to his room.
"Luckily, I don't have a roommate, making it easier for me to sneak in and out at night," said Peter, as he entered his room. He quickly unpacked his luggage and put his clothes into the closet, and placed his textbooks onto his desk. He hid his Spider-Man equipment under his bed. He pulled out the Nanotech Energy Tracker from his suit pocket.
"Should investigate this tonight," he said, as he put the tracker back and walked out of his dorm. He decided to walk to the dormitory.
There was a group of boys sitting around a table, and they seemed to be struggling with Physics equations. Peter decided to approach them.
"Having trouble?" asked Peter.
"Yeah. Can't get the wave function of a tau electron," said one of them. Peter took a pen from them and started to write down.
"Basically rearrange the Schrodinger Equation such that Planck's Constant divided by 2 multiplied by pi is on the other side of the equation, along with the Laplacian Operator. Basically, isolate the wave function," explained Peter. The students did exactly that, and got their answer.
"Hey, thanks man!" said one of them, fist-bumping him. Peter then noticed two guys playing chess. They seemed to be super engrossed in the game, so much so that they seemed to be ignoring any outside stimulus.
One of them moved their pawn towards the other's king. "Checkmate." He said, while the loser groaned.
There was also a pool table, where four guys were crowded around it. They were wearing ESU jackets.
"They seem to be jocks. Maybe I should check with them later…" thought Peter.
"Oh shit it's 6:30! I think we're late!" said one of the boys, as everyone got up from their chairs.
"Late for?" asked Peter.
"Some event they've planned in the Outdoor Amphitheatre. Come on, let's go!" said one of the jocks, as they rushed out of the room and down the stairs.
The Amphitheatre was quite large, with a large number of seats arranged in a staircase manner. It was in the garden. As the boys rushed down, Peter noticed Mary Jane.
He immediately rushed and took a seat next to her. "Hey," he said.
"Well you were quite eager to sit here," joked MJ.
"You are literally the only person I know here," reasoned Peter.
"Other than that scientist girl, who's totally crushing on you, by the way," said MJ.
"What? How can you tell anyways?" asked Peter.
"Eh. I have a way of knowing these things. Also because she's staring right at you- DON'T LOOK BACK!" she said, with large emphasis on the last part as she grabbed Peter's arm.
Peter turned around anyway and noticed Carlie looking at him from across the row. As soon as Peter saw her, she whipped her face ahead.
"Why'd you tell me not to look back?" asked a perplexed Peter.
"Because, genius, now she knows that we're talking about her. That will probably make her more interested in you!" whispered MJ.
"We don't even know if she likes me!" protested Peter, whispering.
"She is literally glancing at you. Every. Five. Seconds." Said MJ. This time Peter didn't look back.
"Look if she ever makes a move or something, I'll tell her I have a girlfriend, okay?" reassured Peter.
"You better. Try and organically bring it up in a conversation with her," suggested MJ. Peter nodded in response, and that's when the headteacher walked onto the lawn in front of the audience, followed closely by Curt Connors.
"Good evening all of you! Welcome to Empire State University, one of the best in New York! If you have been selected here…"
MJ pretended to snore, while the headteacher continued. Peter stifled a chuckle.
After the event was over, Peter decided to head back to his room, and finally track down the Nanotech Energy.
That night, Peter snuck out of his room and crawled to the roof of ESU, with his suit in his backpack. He stuck to the shadows so no one could see him.
"Sneaking out is definitely harder…but I don't need to worry about May finding out now," said Peter, putting on suit and zipping up to a larger building, with the tracker in hand.
"The tracker seems to be at Pier 42…by the abandoned carnival? I should be careful, it could be a trap," thought Peter, when he got a call from Gwen.
"Hey, what's up?" he asked.
"How was ESU? I'm so sorry I forgot to call!" she apologized.
"No need to apologize. ESU is great so far. I'm heading out to get the Nanotech Energy back. How was Columbia University?" asked Peter.
"Really really good! The teachers are amazing, and the whole place is just really good," said Gwen.
"Yeah. Your dad would be proud of you. I know that," said Peter, sighing at the memory of George Stacy.
"Likewise with you and Uncle Ben. And he'd be even more proud about you being Spider-Man," she said.
"Yeah. Anyways I gotta go, talk to you later?" asked Peter, as he approached the carnival.
"Sure, bye!" she said, as she hung up. Spider-Man landed at the pier.
"An abandoned carnival? Why would it be here? The last thing I need is a circus performer going rogue," thought Spider-Man, as he continued into the abandoned carnival. The game stands were still there, albeit covered in dust, with the colours faded. Red and white tarp had been reduced to gray, the large ferris wheel had colonies of rust growing all over it, and the wood would scream with a loud screech every time Spider-Man took another step.
As he continued walking around the place, the tracker seemed to lead into the Tunnel of Love, which still had water in it, although completely still.
"Breeding ground for mosquitoes. Ugh," thought Peter, as he jumped up to the ceiling of the tunnel, and began to crawl inside. About halfway through, he noticed a large television screen hanging from the ceiling, almost 55 inches long and wide.
"The Hell? What's a television screen doing here? Maybe it would display hearts or something. I should bring Gwen to a place like this sometime! Not here, obviously," thought Peter.
All of a sudden, the television screen flashed white, catching Peter off guard, who fell down into the dirty water.
"What the-"
Before he could finish, the television screen sparked to life, and the dark silhouette of a man was being displayed, contrasted by a white background, and interrupted with static lines.
"Spider-Man," said the man, in a very distorted voice.
"Oh hey, generic shadow with a white background and distorted voice," joked Peter, backflipping away a little bit.
"I suppose you're wondering who I am?" asked the silhouette, his voice even more distorted now.
"Yeah but I already know who you are. You're from the commercial where the guy gargled marbles, aren't you?" asked Peter.
The man scoffed. "Snarky as ever. Call me The Altruist,"
"Ahhh so that's you! Gotta be honest, what you've been doing isn't really very altruistic," said Peter.
"How so? I gave Ms Hardy the opportunity to have closure with her father. I gave Michael Morbius the answer to his formula," replied the Altruist.
"And in the end you blackmailed Felicia and let loose a vampire. Yeah…really stretching the definition there, pal," countered Peter.
The Altruist chuckled. "Don't worry, Spider-Man. I plan to help you too," he said.
"Oh do you now? So you're gonna turn yourself in?" asked Peter.
"Oh definitely not, I've done nothing wrong. I want to make you a better hero!" said The Altruist.
Spider-Man laughed out loud, as it reverberated in the tunnels. "And how do you wanna do that? Become my life coach, map out a five year plan? I mean honestly, I'm all ears!" said Peter.
"Then let's start this course, shall we Spider-Man? In three, two, one…"
Just as The Altruist finished, a huge explosion occurred near the sea. Spider-Man swung out of the tunnel to get a better view, and that's when his horrors came to life.
The explosion came from Ryker's Island.
"We're done!" said Otto, as he finished rewiring Max's inhibitor collar. They were both in the courtyard, although they were supposed to be in their individual cells.
Max could feel the electricity surging through him once again. "Finally…" he said, as he shot a lighting bolt right towards the wall of the prison, breaking through it completely.
His eyes crackled with yellow electricity, as he laughed maniacally and zoomed into the prison, taking Otto with him.
"We need to get to Flint and Adrian, they know where the equipment is!" ordered Otto. They made their way to Maximum Security, where every cell was large, and was separated by double layered bulletproof glass, entwined with Kevlar.
Electro and Otto zoomed in, and everyone in the cells jumped out of their beds.
"What the Hell!" said one of the guards, aiming his taser at Electro. He shot a coil of wire, but Max simply scoffed.
"Seriously? My name is literally "Electro!"" he laughed, zapping both of the guards present inside. He then took the keycard from one of them, and opened the cells containing Mysterio, Sandman, Scorpion and Vulture.
Otto quickly rewired Sandman's collar, giving him full access to his powers.
"Get me, Toomes , Beck and Gargan to the evidence lockup!" said Otto. "Max, it's time to attract an insect," said Otto. Sandman quickly turned himself into a sand-raft, and the 4 of them hopped on, sliding towards the evidence lockup, whereas Electro flew straight up to the roof.
There were 4 antennae on all 4 corners of the square roof. Max walked to the center and aimed bolts of electricity to all 4 of them, connecting him to the antennae, making himself into a makeshift electrode, as electricity passed from one antenna to the other, using Max as a connective bridge. He started to absorb that energy.
Flint carried Otto to the Evidence Lockup, passing past Norman's cell.
"Wait!" shouted Otto, and Flint stopped. Otto hopped off of the raft and walked towards Norman's cell.
Norman smiled as Otto approached him.
"Look where I am, and look where you are now," said Otto grinning maliciously.
"I'm proud of you Otto. Your greatest achievement was a prison break, while mine was perfectly engineering a formula that can allow for self-healing as well as superhuman strength, speed and intelligence. Though I suppose I never needed the intelligence part of the serum," said Norman calmly, but condescendingly.
"If you think you can belittle me in such a way, Osborn…" started Otto, but Norman interrupted him.
"Don't worry Otto, you'll get there," he said, as if he was talking to a five year old who came last in a race.
Otto punched the wall in anger, and made his way back to the sand raft. Norman simply chuckled and lay back down on his bed.
"AAAAAAGHHHHHHAHAHA YEAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" shouted Electro, as he almost reached pure energy. Within an instant he stopped the bolts hitting the antennae, and immediately released all the electrical energy he had absorbed while conducting it. He went from a human electrode, to a super-capacitor. With a large breath, he let loose all of the electrical energy, resulting in a large explosion!
Spider-Man hastily swung towards Ryker's, only to see Electro standing on the roof radiating electricity. There was a large hole in the prison.
"Max…you did this?" asked Spider-Man, stunned. Electro laughed.
"Well…let's say I had some help!" said Electro, zipping towards Spider-Man and slamming straight into him, within a blink of an eye. Peter was sent flying backward, when Electro redirected himself and slammed into him again, knocking him off of the roof.
Spider-Man shot a web and swung through the large hole torn in the prison, tumbling into the cell block. Electro zoomed in and slammed him into the wall.
"If it were up to me, I'd kill you right now! But that's not the plan," said Electro, as he threw him through the titanium door and into Maximum Security.
"Nice job, Dillon!" said Herman Schultz, as he ran out of the prison.
Peter's Spider-Sense kicked into gear, as he shot two webs towards Electro's back and pulled him down to the ground, dodging a lightning bolt. Electro shot electricity through his chest straight towards Peter, who started to run laterally on the walls, dodging the bolts and jumping off, kicking Electro straight in the face. Electro stumbled back and flew out of the prison.
Peter was about to follow him, when all of a sudden everything went pitch black.
"Oh Hell no…" said Peter, as green smoke started to seep in. Out of nowhere, Spider-Man felt something metallic wrap around him and slam him into a nearby pillar. He couldn't see anything grabbing him, as he felt himself getting dragged across the floor and thrown back onto the titanium door.
His Spider-Sense wasn't going off either.
"Mysterio?" he thought.
The green smoke cleared out, revealing Scorpion and Mysterio.
"Ah it's you two chumps," sighed Peter, as he zipped towards Scorpion, who disintegrated into dust.
"Huh?!" asked Peter, disoriented.
"Spider-Maaaaannn…" hissed an echoing voice, as a green robotic tail came out of nowhere and grabbed Peter's leg, lifting him up and slamming him down to the ground on his back. As soon as he fell, he found himself staring into Mysterio's fishbowl helmet.
Before Peter could even react, he felt himself being sucked into the fishbowl almost as if he was being chopped into pieces and dissolving into the helmet. He felt nauseous as he closed his eyes, and when he opened them, he found himself lying on a floating rock, in the middle of nowhere.
"Wait… what?!" he asked himself. All of a sudden, a green-winged blur slammed into Peter's back and flew him up to the sky.
"Vulture?!" asked Peter, as Vulture went higher and higher. Peter tried to punch him but his arms went through Adrian, who threw Peter back down to the ground. Peter closed his eyes bracing for the impact, instead he found himself falling onto a sand dune in a desert.
Peter knew these were all illusions and tried to concentrate his Spider-Sense. But it was more or less non-existent.
All of a sudden, the sand started to ripple and move, and a huge giant Sandman rose from the desert, slamming his palm onto Peter, then lifting him up.
"What the f-" blurted Peter, as Sandman swallowed him. He closed his eyes and felt himself fall onto cold hard ground, still enveloped in darkness. He was literally standing on nothing. Peter turned around and out of nowhere, a hallway lit up, with flickering lights.
All of a sudden, four tentacles slammed into him and slammed him to the left wall, then to the floor, and up through the ceiling.
All of a sudden, the illusions stopped, and Peter found himself standing outside Ryker's.
"Is this real…?" asked Peter. He could feel his Spider-Sense again. And that's when he felt a large one, as he quickly did a corkscrew, dodging Electro. He did another flip and dodged Mysterio's lasers, landing straight on Scorpion's face, kicking him.
Vulture came swooping, and Sandman turned himself into a fist and tried to punch Peter, who managed to jump over him and kicked Vulture straight into his chest, before backflipping off of him landing onto Scorpion.
That's when Otto's arms came at Peter. He dodged two of them, which slammed into Electro and Mysterio. However, the other two grabbed Peter and slammed him to the ground twice, before throwing him towards Mysterio.
Mysterio aimed his lasers towards Peter, which threw him back to the ground.
"Hey, Spider-Man? Are those web shooters made of metal?" he asked, as he aimed electricity towards them. Thanks to electromagnetism, and the huge amount of electricity, Electro was able to lift up Peter.
"AAAAAAAAGHHHHHH!" shouted Peter in agony as he got electrocuted, his suit tearing. Scorpion stabbed Peter in the leg, injecting a poison into him.
Sandman turned his fists exponentially large and began to repeatedly punch Peter into his chest, each punch delivering a sickening crack.
Vulture then zoomed in and flew up, and then slammed him into the ground.
Peter's eyes started to feel heavy, the poison getting to him. Otto stabbed two tentacles into Peter's shoulders and lifted him up, and Electro zapped him with maximum electricity. Peter screamed again, feeling as if his entire body was on fire.
His body went limp, as Otto dropped him back to the ground.
"Meet the Sinister Six, Spider-Man…and now, it's time for you to sleep," said Otto, as Sandman slammed a huge hammer made of sand onto him, knocking him out.
"Now then, shall we gentlemen?" asked Doctor Octopus, as the Sinister Six grinned from ear to ear, making their way to Manhattan.
Well, that was brutal! The Sinister Six has now assembled and truly did a number on Peter! Wonder what's gonna happen now? If you're curious about who The Altruist is, do tell me your guesses in reviews or in PMs!
And truly sorry about the large delay, but since I have Preliminary Exams throughout March, chapters may be rather erratically uploaded and might take a while. But don't worry, the story shall continue! Chapter 2 of The Totally Awesome, Invincible Deadpool will be out in a few days, and The Invincible X-Men will be on Rollerparty's account in a few days, so make sure to check that out too!
Guest: Oh don't worry, I'm gonna write her a different way! (Mostly from Nick Spencer's ASM run)
Marvel Nerd: Yep! Morbius is gonna return soon. Really soon.
Teller-Story: Maybe so…tell me who you think it is!
Fate-Be Changed: For now, I don't really have plans for Blade. Of course my version of Blade isn't a vampire, he's more on the cross-species side. But who knows, maybe Blade will show up one day…
Speed-Reader 100: Thank you! I'm glad you like it!
redbirds12: Thanks! And yeah, it was heavily inspired by the Man-Bat mission. And I hope you liked the introduction of the Sinister Six!
Rollerparty: Thanks for the reviews! Love how much you fanboy over Deadpool haha!
Yours Truly,
Shadow Strike.
