The Family Business
It was a small sound, just a sniff, that alerted them to the presence of someone else in the room; the Winchester's were not alone.
Lifting the tablecloth revealed a small child, thumbnail firmly being chewed, nose running, and eyes wide and round and red.
"Ah, it's ok little man," Sam said softly.
"You can come out, he's gone," Dean said, offering a hand.
The young boy, who couldn't have been over 6, shrank back at first, then, deciding it was ok, slowly climbed out from under the table with assistance.
He was just another link in the chain of wreckage the creature had wrought. Thanks to the two men standing in front of him now, he would be the last one to have been terrified and tortured. And the only lucky one still standing. Eyes now much older than his years, he vowed to himself that he would one day do for others what these strangers had done for him. Another added to the family of hunters.
