Quelling the Storm Within

Aang's heart shattered into pieces. Katara finally made it very clear where they stood once and for all. It was time to face reality.

"I—I understand, Katara. Thank you for your forgiveness. I only hope I can repair my relationship with Zuko as well. I—I should go now." He said holding back the tears he wanted to shed but would have to do alone. He took off once again as his emotions overwhelmed him.

How was Aang supposed to stand up against the Fire Lord when he couldn't even handle the truths about himself? Katara thought shaking her head. She worried for her little brother. He had gone too long without guidance and support from people who should have helped him mature. Now the fate of the world depended on a spoiled and petulant boy.

Perhaps that's why they're here: To support Aang to do what had to be done. She wondered if this is what her father Hakoda and mother Kya had to deal with raising Sokka and her. The short time she had with them still prepared her for life on the road even if she wished she had more time. Growing up is already hard but it's even harder when you have to do it by yourself.

Katara often wondered if the Monk Gyatso was more of a friend to Aang than a father figure. Aang had run away from his responsibilities once before which led to him being lost for a hundred years. Could Monk Gyatso have stopped him from going or got him in line with his duty? It was too late to think about it now. Aang can't run away this time. He must fulfill his destiny or lose everything in the process.

Katara felt the need to go check on Zuko and perhaps talk to her brother. As goofy and silly as Sokka could be he had a brilliant mind for strategy and was serious where it counted. Perhaps they could come up with a plan to help Aang follow through in order to defeat the Fire Lord and save the world on the day of Sozin's comet.

Aang flew off to the farthest side of the private island. He stood on the beach and watched the trance-like movement of the water. Suddenly a large, uninhabited island appeared across the sea a short distance away and it felt like it was inviting him to come. Aang began moving into the water and before he could think about what he was doing he was swimming across the unusually calm ocean onto the island that seemed to have a will and a mind of its own.

"Welcome Avatar Aang…" the island whispered in a low voice that rumbled like thunder and carried on the wind like the music of the heavens. Aang climbed up onto the island and followed the sound of the voice that was powerful, ancient, and strangely comforting.
