Sunset in the woods just outside Bellwood. A jackrabbit was peacefully feasting on some berries when suddenly, the earth beneath it started to tremble violently, startling it away.
Underneath the surface, something was digging its way through deep underground, machinery humming to life as suddenly, a dormant Highbreed emerged from its cocoon.
The Scarlet Warrior witnessed this event from the large computer on her secret Batcave-like chamber underneath her castle and nodded to herself.
"My friends could use some help with this one," she said as she pressed a button on her console and a door was opened to reveal a young woman about Ally's age stepping out. "Aloy."
The young woman was 5'5" tall, with long red hair and freckles on her cheeks and nose. Her hair is pulled back into braids in the back and on the sides with many accessories in her hair such as beads. Her eyes are green and her eyebrows are narrow. She wore a beige and brown leather outfit with several tribal necklaces around her neck and fur boots with a utility belt that held many accessories such as a quiver full of arrows for the bow sheathed on her back alongside a large spear. Her most defining trait was a triangular device that was housed on her right ear.
"You summoned me, my Queen?" Aloy asked, bowing before Scarlett.
"In the past, I've had members of the Scarlet Army assist my charges, the Tennysons with a few of their missions. Now, it is time for them to meet you, Aloy."
"I won't let you down. Even if I'm only your newest recruit."
Scarlett only smiled, summoned her Keyblade, and opened a portal to Earth-262.
"Go, my friend. They will trust you on account of your badge."
"Okay," Aloy said as she walked through the portal as it closed behind her.
Nearby, Max was cooking up some squid burgers on the charcoal grill next to the Rust Bucket as the Omni-Team were setting up camp for a camping trip.
"I only had enough charge for one ray blast," Max said as Kevin and Gwen set up the table while Max told stories. "But I knew I was faster than a-"
"Having fun?" Gwen asked her boyfriend.
"Pros of camp outs? Fresh air, barbecue burgers," Kevin said. "Cons of camp outs? Your Grandpa Max's old Plumbers tales we've all heard about ten times before."
"Not all of us," Jen said as she saw Emma listening to Max's tales with a look of interest on her face. "It's Emma's first camping trip after all."
"Where's Becky?" Emma asked Jen as she walked over.
"She went out to rustle up some more real food for us. She is the professional huntress after all."
"Oh yeah."
"I thought you were going to tell us a story about our dad?" Ally asked, stepping up to Max as Kevin reached for a burger, only for Max to smack his hand away with the spatula.
"You know, a story's a lot like barbecued squid. Can't rush either one."
"Squid?" Kevin asked. "I thought those were hamburgers?"
Ben and Jen sniffed the burgers cooking and sighed.
"That would explain the tentacles," Ben said.
"Believe me, I love me some calamari," Jen said. "But not as a burger."
Suddenly, the earth started to tremble below the group and Emma crawled onto the table and stilled the shaking glasses.
"Did you guys feel that?" Gwen asked. "It felt like an earthquake."
"Given our luck, Gwen," Becky said, walking up with a rabbit carcass over her shoulder and a knife at the read to skin it. "It's probably more than that."
Back below the earth, the Highbreed fully emerged from it's plant-like shell, putrid gas spouting around him.
"Awake."
The Highbreed ran through the vein-like ground beneath him as a computer console popped up in front of him and he started typing commands into it.
"Station log: my hibernation pod has opened. That means the unthinkable has occurred. The war is lost."
He gazed upon a large command on the computer.
"I must complete my final mission."
"Zap! One final blast took out the three of them," Max said a few hours later, passing a squid burger to Kevin. "All I had left was the bomb. But time was running out."
"This is a regular burger, right?"
"I think I see eyes and a beak in there," Jen winced in disgust.
"Rabbit anyone?" Becky asked from the campfire as she held up a few medallions of rabbit on the plate as the others looked to her and took a piece of rabbit each and tasted it.
"Little gamey, but I'd rather eat this than squid burgers," Gwen said as Becky nodded.
"Never underestimate a good hunter," she said, sheathing her knife in her belt.
Suddenly, Max felt a jolt come over him and he started passing out in place.
"Um, Grandpa?" Ben asked.
"I thought you liked weird food?" Ally asked as everyone moved over to him.
"What's wrong with Grandpa?" Emma asked, running over.
"We're not sure," Jen told her little sister.
"The deed is done," the Highbreed said, pressing the red button.
Max screamed in pain as he collapsed against the grill, knocking it over and everyone gasped in shock.
"Grandpa!" Ben shouted.
Kevin and Ally helped the senior up onto his feet as he groaned out.
"You sure you're okay?" Gwen asked.
"I'm fine, thanks. Just got a little dizzy for a second. Well, let's eat."
"I can't. You dumped my burger," Kevin said.
"You dumped the whole grill," Becky said, crossing her arms. "Remember."
"That was the last of my ground squid, too. I've got some hamburger meat in the freezer, though. I guess we can eat that or Becky's rabbit."
"Well, if you don't have any more squid, what can we do?" Kevin asked, walking into the Rust Bucket III.
Max set the grill back up as everyone regrouped, when suddenly, a glassy look came over his eyes.\
"Drone seeds located and activated. Command and control sequence, activated. Commencing command code self test."
He stood up, knocking the grill over again, much to everyone's dismay as Kevin walked out with the ground beef.
"Wasn't hungry anyway."
"Grandpa!" the twins shouted.
"Wha-what?"
"It happened again," Gwen said as Jen held Emma in her arms.
"We should get you to a hospital," Ben said. "Get you looked at."
"There's no need. I'm fine. Look at me!"
His five grandkids all looked at him weirdly, even Emma.
"Tell you what, let's all get some sleep and if I'm still acting goofy in the morning, we'll see someone about it then."
"Okay, Grandpa," Emma said as Ben and Jen yawned and everyone got into their sleeping bags.
"Night, kids," Max said, scratching at his neck and not noticing the purple roots growing at the base of it.
Late at night, about 3:00 in the morning, Max stirred in his sleep and suddenly awoke, shucking off his sleeping bag and he looked around, revealing the massive purple roots that had grown over the right side of his face.
Kevin yawned as everyone awoke.
"I'll get the chow. Last time we had breakfast while camping, Max made us scrambled eggs and eyeballs."
Kevin turned to his right and his eyes shot open as he stood up in his sleeping bag.
"Um, Tennyson? Gwen? Guys? Wakey wakey."
Emma yawned cutely as everyone awoke, dressed in their PJs.
"Where's the Rust Bucket?" Jen asked.
"Where's Grandpa Max?" Becky asked.
"Yeah, that's why I didn't let you guys sleep in."
'Jen, Gwen, can you two get a fix on him?"
"Hang on," Jen said as she and her cousin focused their mana and picked up a signal. "Got him."
"He's heading west."
"Then so are we," Ally said. "You too, Emma."
"Sure," Emma said, eyes flashing pink. "I've been doing training with Grandma on my own time too."
Becky looked down at herself and groaned as everyone ran towards their cars and Ally just put on her boots and got onto her motorcycle.
"I can't believe we're going to go fight evil in our PJs," Becky said to Jen as they buckled into Pink Angel.
"That's life, cuz."
"We had no dinner last night, no breakfast this morning. What are we, on a diet?" Kevin asked as everyone peeled out of the campsite and headed west.
Aloy stood on a hill by them, sitting on a large machine that sort of resembled a pony with binoculars in hand.
"West!" she said, kicking her mount in the sides as it reared up and galloped west, following our heroes.
The Rust Bucket pulled up in that direction to meet a bunch of other civilians who had also been infected by whatever was causing the purple roots.
Max stepped out and met the others in a circle.
"Seedling Three, reporting present."
"Seedling Two, reporting present," a man said, steping up.
"Five of 91 Seedlings present. Sufficient animal biomass for failsafe activation."
Underground, the Highbreed was examining this with a pleased look.
"Excellent. Activating final stage."
He pulled some levers down and twisted a few knobs, sending down a few containers of material into the soil and caused some large mutated roots to grow from it and start breaking through the surface and they wrapped around the "seedlings", forming a large plant that contained the human bodies.
Meanwhile, our heroes peeled down the road in their vehicles as Jen and Gwen focused on their grandfather's mana.
"We go off road from here," Gwen said.
"You sure?" Kevin asked.
"We're sure," Jen said.
"Fine. Press the third button on the second row on your dashboard."
Ben and Jen did as such and suddenly, all three cars suddenly morphed into all-terrain vehicles, growing larger tires, bulkier frames, bigger grills, etc.
"Whoa," Ben said, admiring the new features along with his sisters.
"Ooh," Emma said in the backseat with Becky in the passenger seat.
"HoverTech Cycle, activate," Ally said, flipping the switch, transforming her bike into hover mode and it flew above our heroes, unawares of the young redhead following them on her mechanized mount.
Soon enough, our heroes stopped their vehicles at the same clearing where they found the Rust Bucket III.
"Whoa," Becky said, stunned as they grouped outside the large mutant plant.
"What is this?" Ben asked as Gwen and Jen scanned it with their mana.
"I don't know. But that's Grandpa Max inside," Gwen said.
"Not for long," Jen said as she and Ben transformed into...
"Spidermonkey!"
"Medusssa!"
The twins stood outside and Medusa ran her claws along the outside of the plant.
"I think we can break thissss."
"Come no closer to the seed pod, inferior filth!" the Highbreed shouted, wielding a large blaster.
"A Highbreed?" Becky asked.
"Lighten up, will ya? The war's over," Kevin said.
"Perhaps. But our defeat will bring you nothing but sorrow, vermin!"
"We're getting our Grandpa out of there. I'd stand aside if I were you," Spidermonkey said as the twins stood ready... only to be blasted back about ten feet into a large crater.
"You okay, guys?" Ally asked with the twins giving a thumbs' up each.
"Nobody smacks them around but me!" Kevin shouted, forming a spiked mace in his hand and he ran forwards to the Highbreed.
Kevin ran towards the Highbreed, who blocked all his strikes with his blaster, sparking out with every hit before smacking Kevin silly into a tree, where he slumped down, dazed.
"Ready, Gwen?" Becky asked as she pressed a button on her belt and her crossbow popped out of a socket of it.
"Always."
Becky fired out an explosive arrow that knocked the Highbreed's blaster out of his hands before Gwen gripped him in her mana with a shout, reeling him in... until the Highbreed grabbed her mana tendrils and flicked forwards, knocking Gwen back with her own powers as Medusa slithered out of the crater with her brother as Ally blasted forwards with her blasters on her hover bike that the Highbreed blasted at, causing her to dodge it.
"Let's try hitting him all together," Spidermonkey suggested, popping his head up. "Not one at a time."
"Done!" Ally shouted from above.
The team then surrounded the Highbreed from all sides and cracked their knuckles and Medusa hissed angrily.
Suddenly, everyone felt another earthquake under them and looked to see the giant mutant plant sink down into the Earth's crust... right before it suddenly burst right upwards, ten times as high as before and before everyone's eyes, the team shouted out and saw a giant Titan-like monster rise up before them, completely made up of rock and plants
Rocks fell down on our heroes as Gwen put up a large force field before everyone ran (or in Medusa's case, slithered) away towards a large rock overlooking the entire area.
"What the hell isss that thing?" Medusa asked.
"The end of the human infestation," the Highbreed answered. "The end of our war!"
"Don't you watch the news, punk?" Ally asked as she landed her bike. "THe war is over!"
"The Highbreed are friends with the human race now," Emma said in her brothers' arms.
"Um, could we please go back to the 'end of the human infestation' part?" Spidermonkey asked.
"You are doomed."
"We don't think so," Medusa said, baring her claws. "You're going to tell us how to beat this thing or we're going to hurt you!"
That was when the Omnitrixes timed out, leaving our heroes back to human again.
"Well that's just typical," Ben sighed, Emma still in his arms before he set her down. "Stupid Omnitrixes. Always when we need you the most."
"I don't have time to toy with inferiors," the Highbreed said, unfurling his wings. "I go now to watch the destruction of your pitiful species."
The Highbreed took off into the sky and left our heroes on the ground.
"To the cars!"
Eveyrone took off in their vehicles, following the giant Titan monster, not noticing Aloy following them in the woods behind.
Soon enough, they made their way to a clearing and looked upwards.
"Now?" Jen asked.
"Now."
The teens then transformed into...
"Humungousaur!"
"Titanosaurus!"
"Oh man. Maybe these things are still under warranty, even with the Master Control."
"Because you hit the cores down instead of saying the name," Ally reminded.
"Brain fart," Titanousaurus said.
The titan creature walked along towered above the forest as Humungousaur and Titanosaurus followed it and Way Big punched it backwards, the Highbreed taking notice as Titanosaurus leaped up and smacked him down with her tail.
"Hang on!" Gwen shouted as she put up a large mana wall... that the creature instantly broke through without effort. ""This is so not my day."
"Maybe it just needs a little pruning!" Kevin said, putting his car in auto and he ejected from his seat, morphing his arms into blades and started cutting down the trees at the top of the creatures' head, only to soon be knocked back from an impact and he went rolling on the ground.
"You okay?" Becky asked from Jen's car as it pulled up.
"Huh. Usually I'm murder on house plants."
"Trees aren't house plants," Emma said as Ally chuckled from her bike copter as it landed and the titan creature walked away.
"You just got schooled by a preschooler!"
"The pod containing Grandpa Max and those other civilians is inside that thing," Becky said. "We don't want to hurt any of them."
"Yeah, I don't think that's going to be a problem right now," Humungousaur said.
"I'm not even sure that Rainbowgon can take that thing on at this point."
"I can help," said the voice of a young woman as they all turned their heads to see Aloy walk her mount towards them with a smile. "I'm Aloy."
"Let me guess," Kevin smiled. "You work for Scarlett?"
"Yep. Your guardian is very picky about when she wants to help you and which soldiers she sends to do it."
That was when the twins changed back.
"Okay, what's the plan? It seems that this thing's shell is all but impenetrable," Emma said, shrugging.
"We've tried going easy and we've tried going hard," Ally said.
"Nothing's working. Now what?" Gwen asked. "Who knows how to take that thing down?"
That was when the twins got a look on their face and smirked to each other.
"I think we might know a guy who does," Ben said.
"You guys hold the fort down until we get back. It'll be soon," Jen said as she crossed her arms and changed to her Anodite form as Ben transformed into...
"Jetray!"
The two took off into the sky, disappearing into the distance.
"It would be nice if they let us in on the plans once in awhile," Kevin said.
"Less talking, more fighting!" Becky shouted as she and Aloy fired up tons and tons of explosive arrows that blasted into the creature, not even scratching it.
Gwen grabbed Kevin with her mana and tossed him up to the creature's head and he bashed as hard as he could before he fell back to Earth and rolling across the ground and his sister followed, blasting the creature with the lasers from her copter and Gwen sent out a ton of mana bolts.
"Well, that failed," Aloy sighed. "Nothing in my arsenal has the power to even scratch this thing. At least on the outside."
Soon, tons of tanks and armored assault vehicles came driving up and past the team through the woods as a military general took out his megaphone and announced to his soldiers:
'Weapons at the ready!"
"Wait!" Gwen shouted. "There's people in that thing."
"Apologies, young lady. But look out there in the distance. That's Twin Mason Nuclear Plant."
"Oh my..." Emma said, resting in Ally's arms as she had landed her bike again.
"Do you understand what will happen if we don't stop that thing? It could destroy half the state of California!"
"But..." Gwen began.
"Fire!"
The military fired all the missiles in their arsenal against the titan creature, but all they did was explode against its back, not doing any damage against it or even getting its attention.
"Full power, now!"
Unfortunately, the Highbreed landed next to the team as they all took their weapons out again and Aloy pointed her spear at him along with Becky.
"Idiotic cattle. You cannot hope to succeed."
"Suppose we make you tell us how to stop this thing!" Kevin shouted, grabbing the Highbreed's arm.
"Unhand me, vermin!" the Highbreed shouted, throwing Kevin off of him as Emma gasped and pointed her hand out that created a mana platform that caught Kevin and instantly shattered against the ground.
"Sorry! Kind of new at this!"
"A lower life form cannot force me to do anything."
"No," an identical voice said as everyone turned to see Ben and Jen smiling with Reiny standing in Ship's cockpit as they flew above the area. "But I can."
"Who are you?"
"He's Reinrassig III, Seventh Son of the Noble Highbreed House of Duraza, Direct Descendant of the High Order of Rarsect," Jen recited.
"And a personal friend of ours."
"I am the Highbreed Supreme!"
"Impossible! You are impure! Look at your hand!"
"Yes," Reiny said, holding out his open palm on his Methanosian arm, showing the Highbreed mark on it. "Look at it!"
"You wear the Imperial Seal," the lesser Highbreed said, bowing down. "My apologies, Highbreed Supreme. The our people have not been exterminated?"
"Clearly."
"But I was only to be awakened if we lost the war."
"The war has ended. It was settled peacefully thanks to Ben and Jen Tennyson."
"Guilty as charged," Jen smiled.
"Peace? With the humans?"
"Then what awakened me form hibernation?"
"It must have been some sort of accident."
"It was an earthquake," Gwen realized. "Don't you see?"
"Whatever the cause, your orders are clear. Shut down that weapon!"
"Supreme one, I would deactivate it if I could. But once a failsafe sprouts, nothing can stop it."
"You mean that thing has an on switch but no off?" Kevin asked.
"Well, what good is a failsafe if you can turn it off?" Becky asked.
"We had planted post-hypnotic seeds in several thousand humans who had been our prisoners," Reiny explained. "Those seeds were to be activated and the failsafe process started only upon our demise."
"So what's it going to do? Stomp us all to death?" Ally asked.
"No, the failsafe needs a large power source to prime its destructive energies."
"Like a nuclear power plant?" Ben asked worriedly.
"And when it's primed?" Aloy asked.
"It will explode and the resulting fallout will destroy your planet within minutes."
"OMG," Jen gasped.
Following the failsafe in Ship, everyone looked on from above.
"We're not going to just sit here and let the Brussels sprout that walks like a man nuke us, are we?" Kevin asked.
"No," Ben said. "But it's clearly impervious to everything we've got."
"So who said we had to fight it head on?" Gwen asked. "All plants release some form of gas, right? So this must have some sort of exhaust port."
"And if we find it, we can get inside and try to destroy this thing from the inside out," Jen realized.
"Really?" Ally asked. "We're going to climb up this thing's exhaust port."
"No, Ally," Jen said. "You guys are going to climb."
Jen and Ben nodded and selected two flying aliens.
"We're going to fly."
"Jetray!"
"AeroForce! Reiny, take care of Emma for us, okay?"
"Anything for you two, Ben and Jen Tennyson."
The twins dive-bombed and flew around the failsafe to search for the exhaust port.
"Hang on," Aloy said from Ship and pressed the device in her ear and it projected a field of a purple grid around her as she examined the failsafe from top to bottom with a focused look on her face.
"What is that?" Becky asked, surprised.
"It's called a Focus," Aloy said. "It projects a field of data that I can use to analyze pretty much anything around me. I got the exhaust port, guys."
"Great, let's go," Gwen said.
"Think they'll be okay?" Emma asked.
"They can handle themselves," Reiny said.
A few minutes later, the team had started climbing the exhaust port, all wearing their hero armor except for Kevin and Aloy, who plugged their noses from the fumes.
"If you ever tell anyone about this," Matter Girl warned with a stern glance.
"Don't worry. It'll be our little secret," Hero Core stated, his helmet protecting him from the fumes along with the others.
"What do you think would happen if I lit a match?"
"The same thing that happens with Swampfire," Morphina stated. "Don't you dare."
Everyone then got into a position and climbed up the exhaust port to the port to the main area of the failsafe. Everyone took notice of the red and purple cables running along all sides of the failsafe's interior.
"These cables are like veins," Hero Core noted. "That must mean we're walking through this thing's circulatory system or something."
"The smaller ones must carry fluids," Lucky Girl said.
"And I think the big ones trade carbon dioxide for oxygen," Huntress said, crossing her arms as Aloy trailed.
"Like a real plant?"
"Exactly."
"Then we know what we have to do," Morphina said. "Get to the failsafe's center. The heart or brain of this thing and shut it down."
"I don't think those things are gonna let us," Matter Girl noted as they saw several Highbreed-esque creatures sprout from out of the walls and advancing towards us.
"Um, what are those things?" Kevin asked.
"White blood cells!" Hero Core shouted. "We must be like germs to this thing!"
"So it sent antibodies to stop us!" Lucky Girl realized as everyone got into fighting position as the twins transformed into...
"Diamondhead!"
"Firefox!"
Diamondhead shot a massive flurry of crystals from his hands and blasted an antibody as Firefox bared her claws and started slashing and clawing at some more before she sent out a blast of fire from her paws that blasted them back.
Lucky Girl sent out a flurry of mana bolts and spells from her hands, chanting rapidly as she dodged the tentacles that the antibodies threw her way with a gasp as she knelt down and leapt into the air, sending a mana-charged kick towards them.
Aloy aimed her bow and sent out tons of fire-tipped arrows out that blasted the antibodies back as Huntress leaped up and twirled her spear around her like a helicopter blade, knocking away all the tentacles that went near her as she rose her hand and her armor sent out an energy blast from her palm that sent another antibody crashing into the wall, knocking it unconscious.
Kevin ran up and slammed his antibodies back with a shout and a slice of his blade arm, but he was suddenly overpowered and wrapped up in an antibody's tentacles and it started to drag him away.
"Kevin!" Matter Girl shouted as she backhand punched an antibody, before another grabbed her from behind and wrapped her up in his tentacles.
This happened with each and every one of them, quickly getting overwhelmed by antibodies.
"Crap!" Firefox shouted.
As Diamondhead was getting wrapped, he sent a crystal out from his head that sliced the vine on an antibody's back, sending it sprawling unconscious and it hit the floor, fading back into a human.
"Um, how did you do that?" Kevin asked.
"All of the antibodies have these vines sticking out of their backs, connecting them to the wall," Lucky Girl shouted, struggling to send out a spell. "Like umbilical cords."
"Or power cords," Aloy realized.
Huntress struggled in her binds and then activated a knife from her armor's gauntlets, slicing through the tentacles as she cut the cord on the back of her antibody.
Everyone else did the same, slamming back their antibodies and slicing the cords off of them as well, instantly turning them back to human.
"No sign of Grandpa Max anywhere," Huntress realized.
"That just means we're gonna keep looking," Firefox said. "Come on."
The team kept walking through the failsafe's tunnels for a few minutes until Firefox put a paw up and stopped everyone.
"You sure this is the right way?" Lucky Girl asked.
"Um, I think they have the right idea, Gwen," Matter Girl said as everyone looked up to see Max wrapped in tons of vines and was hanging in the center of the failsafe's core.
"Grandpa!" Huntress shouted as everyone began climbing up. "The failsafe's using him as its brain."
"Grandpa, wake up," Diamondhead said as Diamondhead gave them a glassy look in his eyes.
Outside, Emma and the two Highbreeds stood with the military as the failsafe approached the nuclear plant.
It began overloading all the systems, blowing up some generators and it placed its hand on the center generator and began absorbing its nuclear energy, overloading it to a meltdown state.
Unable to watch anymore, the Highbreed beside Reiny took off into the air and soared up to the failsafe.
"You're the only one who can stop this, Grandpa," Firefox said, taking Max's face in her hands. "Focus on my voice!"
The vines only tightened around Max further as Kevin groaned and facepalmed.
"The power of love isn't cutting it this time, Jen."
"So let's do some cutting of our own," Lucky Girl suggested.
Every one of the team started using everything in their arsenal to slice and blast at the cables that were surrounding the core, only for them to regenerate almost instantly.
"Note to self, guys," Kevin sighed. "Any house I ever own is going to have desert landscaping. No plants whatsoever."
"Oh, duh," Diamondhead said. "Why didn't we think of this before?"
"What?" Matter Girl asked.
"We're fighting a giant plant, guys. We've got some aliens that can control plants," Firefox realized too as the twins adjusted the cores on their chests and transformed into...
"Swampfire!"
"Blossom Rose!"
"Can you guys control all of this?" Aloy asked, slicing and dicing at the vines using her lance with all of her might.
"Maybe not," Swampfire said. "But we should be able to sever the connection to Grandpa Max."
Blossom Rose shouted out as she focused and sent out several of her own vines from her fingers that wrapped around Max as Swampfire took his head and started controlling the plants around him.
Within about two seconds, all of the memories of the end of the war and getting controlled by the failsafe came flooding back to Max's head.
"...so, Devin Levin provided cover fire for me while I defused the bomb. Ugh, have I told this story before?"
"Yes!" the Tennyson kids all cheered as Blossom Rose and Lucky Girl hugged Max hard.
"Alright, Grandpa!"
"That's what's up," Kevin smiled.
"Totally," Matter Girl said as they fist-bumped.
"Hey. I'm Aloy. I've heard a lot about you from Queen Scarlett, Max Tennyson."
"Pleased to meet you. You were obviously a great help to the team on their adventure, right?"
"Like you can't imagine," Swampfire said.
Outside, the failsafe instantly powered down and the nuclear energy started to sink back to normal levels.
The military, nuclear plant workers and Emma started cheering and jumping for joy, tossing helmets into the air... but their celebration was short lived as the failsafe started slumping down, cracking the nuclear generator, producing smoke from the inside.
"Whoa!" Blossom Rose shouted as everyone started sliding down.
"There's no brain keeping this thing standing anymore!" Swampfire shouted.
"If we're still inside when this thing falls over," Huntress gulped.
"You have a bigger problem."
Everyone turned to see the Highbreed looking them over from the top.
"Here to finish the job, huh?" Kevin asked.
"As a matter of fact, insect, that is precisely why I'm here," the Highbreed said, going to the core.
"We'll fight you," Matter Girl said, pounding her fist.
"You understand nothing," the Highbreed said, putting the core's center on his head, the entire failsafe crumbling around him. "My orders were to destroy you so I could unleash this weapon. Now my orders are to stop it. And so I shall."
"This place is coming apart," Lucky Girl warned. "If you stay here..."
"All the more reason for you to gather the other humans and leave this place.
Everyone turned and ran away as the failsafe came crumbling down around them.
Then, the failsafe stood up a bit before completely falling over, destroyed right next ot the plant, keeping everyone completely safe.
"Ben and Jen Tennyson!" Reiny shouted in horror.
"...Are just fine! Thanks for asking!" Kevin shouted from the dust cloud as Gwen and Jen generated a force field around everyone and the unconscious humans before they touched down, the others in a pile next to them as Reiny walked up to them.
"Yes, Ben and Jen Tennyson. You have once again done well," Reiny told them.
"And with that, I must leave you," Aloy said as a portal to Cinnibar opened beside her with a smile.
"Thanks, Aloy," Jen said. "We sincerely hope to see you and Scarlett again.
"Sooner than you can even imagine," Aloy said with a wink before walking through the portal and it closed behind her.
"You okay, Grandpa?" Ben asked.
"I am now. You did good work today, kids."
"Yes, Ben and Jen Tennyson. You have once again done well."
"Not that well, man," Jen said. "The other Highbreed was in there."
"He's the one who saved the power plant," Ben agreed.
"He was a soldier doing his duty. There is no higher honor for a Highbreed."
Everyone started walking off into the sunset with Ben holding Emma in his arms.
"Tell us, Reiny," Becky said, crossing her arms. "We're curious."
"Are there any other Highbreed doomsday plans we should know about?" Gwen asked.
"Absolutely not! Um... I will check the records."
"Come on, Reiny," Ben said. "We'll have Ship give you a ride home."
"Grandpa Max," Emma asked. "Are you sure you're really okay?"
"Yep, I am, Emma," Max said. "Except for one thing... this little adventure has seriously put me off my vegetables."
Everyone groaned in disgust from that as they walked off into the sunset.
I honestly don't see what the point of having a Highbreed transformation is for this story. The twins already have a ton of aliens in their roster that have more or less the exact same powers as the Highbreed, so I don't really think I need to use it. If this disappoints you, I apologize, but I'm not the kind of guy who likes to abandon his own style of writing just because I get a ton of requests.
