Harbinger of Kaos: Well, there's still Ursa and Non they can use for Conner. Constantine's plan ain't even gonna make it to his and Ragman's attempt to capture Superman before it goes all to hell.
darthwolf: We'll see how things are going for the rest of the Insurgency next chapter. Superman will hear about what Peter's become, but he won't see it for himself until year three.

StarCarnage: Well the reason that no one has 'made kryptonite' with their ring is because they have to know what Kryptonite is made of, sort of like how Firestorm can't just wave a hand and make it, he needs to know it's atomic structure and everything and lets be honest, half the Lantern corps aren't exactly what I'd call scientist. And as for the Red sun thing, well Superman's fast, while Lanterns can respond at the speed of thought, the Man of Steel has shown to be faster than that so trying to pin him down long enough to do that, in the middle of a warzone like this, kinda hard. Now if they manage to get him alone and pin him down long enough than sure, they could try something like that, or even drain him of his solar radiation like Venom did to Zod by preventing his body from gathering more and having him burn up what he already has or simply block the synapses of his brain to keep him from moving. The Ring wont fix Peter, if anything it's doomed him since his heart's been replaced and if it comes off, and with his heart now gone... things aren't looking too good for Peter, and Venom and people who've dealt with Red Lanterns know this.
Clear Skydancer: Have you even been reading this story or have you just gone through the reviews which have a few spoilers here and there in them and based your responses off those? Also do you even know what or who is in the Phantom Zone? There are tens of thousands of beings that have been placed there over the years, trying to figure out who might come out is next to impossible as there's just more than Kryptonians imprisoned in it. And it's not like the team knew that someone was literally waiting for the portal to open for when the Teen Titans were eventually retrieved. They don't have a fucking phone for them to call up the guys in there and be like 'Hey, anyone there with you waiting for us to open the portal to rescue you guys?'. And here's another thing, they had to be in and out fast because right as their doing all this, in the middle of a Regime controlled area, with Superman robots and Regime soldiers running around, there's a INTERGALACTIC WAR GOING ON. They can't exactly take their time with as few people as they have to begin with. And the reason no one saw Venom coming is quite simple if you actually stopped and thought about it... WHO IN THE EVER FLYING FUCK COULD HAVE PREDICTED THAT VENOM WOULD GET A FUCKING RED LANTERN RING? Are there plans in place created by Batman in the event that Venom did somehow take control of Peter? Yes, and someone like Jay or Anti-Venom are more than capable of handling him, but that was just Venom on his own and maybe after Peter took a super green pill, not Venom with A GODDAMN RED LANTERN RING. And it's not like Peter went and said 'Hey guys, I have Venom with me, you know the thing you took away from me and locked up? Yeah I stole him without any of you knowing because I thought I might still have enough will power left in me to resist it and toss it into the Phantom Zone'. Some of his teammates only found out AFTER they already departed for the mission, not like they could just turn back and risk throwing the entire plan for the war at risk. Christ it's not about 'requires a lot of intelligent characters making very silly decisions in order for the pieces to line up', they are literally racing against the clock with limited numbers to retrieve people from a place they have no real way of knowing what's on the other side with the people their there to save other than what they know of the place through second hand accounts and here say. And even if they somehow knew a fucking group of Kryptonians were gonna come through, how are they gonna fight them without any Kryptonite? Yes they have magic to use but considering that all the Resistance has is Zatanna and Doctor Fate at the moment, one of whom is bound by the Masters of Order that can pull him back whenever they feel it's necessary and another who despite her great power is still very, very human and therefore very killable, it's not something their willing to risk unless they have no other choice. Not sure how hundreds of other people who've read this can see that but you can't and think you know better but hey, I guess in hindsight, we all choke on the idiot ball at some point ourselves, huh?

In all of Zatanna's years as a 'superhero', and a member of both the Justice League and long since disbanded Justice League Dark, the famed sorceress has faced just about every sort of villain under the sun. From typical street thugs with whatever they have on hand to aliens with planetary destroying weaponry, to cosmic gods and demons with legions of monsters at their command and even fellow Superheroes when their interests clashed.
But facing down a Lantern wasn't something new for the mistress of magic, she'd face down her share of Yellow and Black Lanterns back in the day and even Hal when he was consumed by Parallax... but a Red Lantern, was something new entirely.
It also didn't help that said Red Lantern was being worn by the man she loved who in turn was under the control of the biggest asshole she's ever met.
With a roar, Venom fired off a barrage of red beams towards Zatanna, forcing her to erect a shield of ice with a quick spell before she had the ice and snow around Venom begin to converge on the Symbiote and try to entrap him. It wouldn't hold him very long, if at all, not with a Power ring, but she hoped it'd be enough to break his focus on her just long enough for her to utter a spell that may be able to either freeze Venom or knock him out.
'Can a Symbiote like him even be knocked out?' Zatanna thought as she struggled to both hold her shield against Venom's energy onslaught and trap the rage fueled being.
She considered summoning a giant ass bell and ringing it very loudly, but she doubted it'd affect Venom much. All he would have to do is simply have the field of energy his ring surrounds him with block out the sound. Same with fire, Hal and Guy have bragged enough about flying through stars over the years that the dark haired beauty wasn't even going to bother and see if Venom was dumb enough to let such an obvious weakness bring him down.
"Stop hiding and fight me Zee! I know you want too!" Venom cooed as he shot off into the air and aimed his ring at Zatanna and unleashed a powerful blast of crimson energy towards the magician's ice wall, completely tearing through it.
"Erehps fo noitcetorp!" Zatanna yelled before a pale light surrounded the woman just moments before Venom's attack struck her.
The spell struggled to hold it's own against the seemingly never ending wave of rage being thrown against it. With a growl, Venom flew towards the protected human and began to slam his fists, each covered in red hard light with spikes on the knuckles, into the surface of the forcefield. Zatanna gritted her teeth as she found herself struggling to withstand Venom's blows, the fact he was having his ring's constructs unleash enough force to rival a tactical nuke's blast wasn't helping much.
After several more powerful blows to Zatanna's shield, Venom let out a roar of anger before he opened his maw and stretched it far beyond what he normally had it as and sank his teeth into the protective spell. Zatanna flinched at the sight of Venom's mouth taking up a good portion of her view, showcasing a maw of barbed teeth, crimson red energy leaking from his throat and gums and that horrid tongue he seemed to like. With a growl a blast of red energy erupted from Venom's mouth like a flame thrower and spread across the surface of Zatanna's shield until she was surrounded by a swirling blood red haze.
After several minutes the onslaught stopped and the haze slowly faded away as Venom ripped his mouth off of Zatanna's shield and spat a few teeth that were dislodged on to the ground.
"Hmm, talk about a tooth ache, hmmm, hehehehe" Venom chuckled as he turned his attention back to Zatanna and began to slowly circle the protective sphere.
"I'll give you a lot more than a tooth ache you son of a bitch" Zatanna growled at the Red Lantern.
"Hehehehehe, I can't wait until I get my hands on you my pretty little wizard" Venom cooed as he ran a barbed tongue over the teeth marks he left in Zatanna's shield before they vanished "I'm gonna make you scream in ways you never thought possible"
"Under most circumstances, I'd be a little flustered to here someone say that to me, but from you?" Zatanna glared at the Red Lantern "Hearing you say that makes me sick"
"Hmmm, prude" Venom hissed as he slammed a fist into the shield before he stepped back and scanned the barrier for any way to get through.
He could just keep hitting it with overwhelming force until either the shield failed or Zatanna ran out of energy, but that'd likely take too long. Besides, it wouldn't be too long until the rest of her 'friends' appeared and ruined all of the fun. And he was starting to feel the strain of maintaining his control over Peter, while his mind was taking the brunt of the rage induced haze the Red rings caused in their wielders, trying to reign it in enough for Venom to make some use out of it on top of fighting people as powerful as Zod and Zatanna were beginning to take their toll. At this rate Peter might resist Venom long enough for him to take control of the ring and force him off.
It'd still leave him as a violent power ring wielding rage monster, but a mindless one at that-
Venom's entire body tensed as Peter's spider-sense went off just milliseconds before a sonic 'boom' tore through the landscape. Venom stared at Zatanna with a deadpanned expression on his face.
"You suck-" he began before he was suddenly struck in the face by a very enraged Ursa.
"YOU BASTARD!" the Kryptonian yelled with rage, her eyes burning with energy as her arms became blurs.
Zatanna flinched at the shockwaves emanating from Ursa's blows as she knocked Venom tot he ground and continued to wail on the Red Lantern. The ice cracked and shook under Ursa's barrage while bits of Venom's biomass started to go flying and the red glow he was making began to dim with each punch.
'This is... problematic' Venom thought as he laid there, his body being beaten into a pulp by the alien woman above him.
Most of the force for each blow was being evenly distributed by his biomass, with the aid of his ring, into the ground beneath him and what pain he would be feeling was being regulated to Parker which in turn would increase his rage. It wasn't an ideal situation, not by a longshot, but it was better than nothing. He tried to blast Ursa with the same sort of attack that he used on Zod earlier but a blast from Ursa's heat vision forced him to instead construct a shield that was quickly torn apart by Ursa's own hands.
Zatanna meanwhile was gathering up as much magical energy as she could for a spell that would hopefully take out both Ursa and Venom. It was a gamble to release Ursa from her magical prison but Zatanna needed the symbiote distracted long enough for her to complete her spell without having to worry about maintaining the integrity of her shield.
'Just keep him distracted for a few more moments you intergalactic bitch' Zatanna thought as her eyes began to glow a ominous blue and odd mysterious runes began to appear on her skin with each word she whispered in a seemingly never ending chant.
Azure colored flames began to erupt around the raven haired woman as she poured more and more energy into her spell, beyond the normal limits required. Ursa was still busy beating Venom to a bloodied pulp, seemingly unconcerned with the world around her, though given her mate was now dead, Zatanna supposed she didn't care much for anything anymore.
'I can relate' Zatanna thought as she chanted the last of the incantations spells' before she aimed at built up energy at both Ursa and Venom "Get ready to scream in ways you never thought possible Venom"
With a cry, Zatanna unleashed a beam of dark blue energy that seemed to burn the very air it passed through and reduce the ice to actual ash rather than melted water. Ursa paused as she noticed the approaching glow and turned just in time to be struck by the beam of concentrated energy, igniting in a powerful explosion that shook the ice to it's very core and sent Zatanna flying back and skipping across the cold icy ground.
"GAHH! SON OF A-! SHIT!" Zatanna shouted in pain as she skipped across the ground until she came to a skidding halt.
The skin on her left side, the side that kept hitting the ice, was raw and bleeding while white hot pain erupted from Zatanna's heel, now turned at an angle it normally shouldn't be. With a pained groan, Zatanna propped herself up on her elbows and looked at the blue and black smoke colored mushroom cloud that hung in the air, right where Venom and Ursa were only moments ago.
"Now... I can... see... w-why... i-it's f-f-f-forb-... forbidden" Zatanna panted as she pushed herself up into a sitting position and reached down to her broken ankle and began to use what magical energy she had left to heal it.
She wouldn't have long, as powerful as Zatanna's spell was, she knew that Venom and Ursa won't be down for long. Even if their very state of being was assaulted on every level conceivable by pure raw magic. The closet thing that Zatanna could describe it to a non-mystic would be like taking Zatanna's own mystical energy and transforming it into fire itself and than somehow injecting it into a being and burning not just their flesh, but their spirit, their mind, their very soul into submission.
A gross oversimplification that still didn't begin to describe the spell, but the only one she could think of.
'I'm sure Constantine has a much cruder version of it...' Zatanna thought with a wince as she struggled to climb back to her feet before the unconscious body of Ursa suddenly dropped before the powerful magician.
The Kryptonian woman's armor was scorched to a crisp with chunks falling off like charred coal. Parts of her skin, what was visible anyway, looked like someone dumped boiling water on it and her hair was burnt off entirely aside from a few strands on the back of her scalp. And that was just the physical damage, Zatanna was under no illusions that Ursa's mind and spirit were in a similar state.
"That hurt Zee..."
Zatanna's blood froze as she slowly looked up to see Venom hovering before her.
While Ursa looked as though she was shoved into a fireplace and left to burn, Venom looked completely unharmed, at least physically. True the red aura that sounded him was flickering and his speech seemed a little slurred, but over all it looked as though Venom fared better than his Kryptonian opponent did.
"If I hadn't poured every bit of power I had into my forcefield, you may have actually burnt me off of Peter here entirely..."Venom grumbled as he glanced down at Ursa's form for a moment with a look of disgust "I'm actually hurt you'd try to do such a thing to me Zee"
"Your gonna hurt a whole lot more when I'm done with you" Zatanna hissed as she gathered what energy she could into her hands "I'm gonna make you rue the day you ever came to this planet you fucking parasite"
At that, Venom's infamous grin began to slowly form on his face while crimson energy dripped from his maw "Hmm, perhaps driving you away did you some good after all!"
"...What?" Zatanna said, her eyes widening a little at this while the energy in her hands vanished, her concentration broken.
"Oopsie, shouldn't have said that" Venom chuckled darkly as his ring began to glow like a hellish red sun "Should not have said that"
"What are you talking about?!" Zatanna snapped "What do you mean drive me away?"
"Come now, you actually think Peter was the only one that I was affecting when you two were together?" Venom inquired with another dark laugh as his tongue extended outwards and lapped at some of the crimson energy he was drooling "All those times you touched him when we were one? All those... 'experiments' you did with one another? All those times you and he fell asleep, leaving me out in the open..."
Zatanna looked at Venom in shock as he doubled over in laughter before he suddenly stopped and looked up towards the mistress of magic with glowing red narrowed eyes "Honestly, I hardly had to do much to drive you away from him, you were doing well on your own-"
"Shut up!" Zatanna growled as her eyes began to glow while tears began to slowly fall down her cheeks "JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP!"
"I mean all those little self doubts you had with him, some put there by me admittedly" Venom continued with a shrug before he stopped and the biggest grin Zatanna had ever seen on Venom grew as he quirked his head to the side "Than there was that little... 'team up,' you had with Constantine when you and Peter were starting to get a little distance-y with one another-"
"Nrub! NRUB! NRUB!" Zatanna shouted as she unleashed a torrent of blue fire towards Venom who simply stood where he was and allowed the azure colored flames to completely engulf him.
Zatanna knew it wasn't enough and continued to pour more and more power into her spell, slowly turning the blue flames to a darker, more violent looking purple fire that casted a dark light on the ice around them. The air began to grow arid and the ice and snow melted and evaporated, creating a thick cloud of steam around the enchantress. Pain spread throughout Zatanna's arms as she kept poring the last of her energy into her spell, intent on burning that damn Symbiote to a crisp before a clawed arm suddenly shot out from the steam and seized her by the throat.
Zatanna's eyes widened as Venom's face slowly emerged from the steam, hissing in dark amusement before they both began to slowly rise above the steam cloud.
"Burn...?" Venom said as he quirked his head to the side in puzzlement as he tightened his grip on the woman's neck "How can I burn Zee... when your suffocating?"
Zatanna reached up to try and pry the Red Lantern's hand off her throat, even tried to use what mystical energy she had, if any, to break free from Venom's grip, but the Lantern's grip was solid. With a hiss Venom pulled his other hand back and slowly had it form a spike and seemed intent on running her through before his entire body froze.
"What is..." Venom's eyes narrowed as he lowered his arm and looked to the south with a glare of annoyance "Oh... now that is interesting... also unwelcomed. Stupid Kryptonian"
Just as Zatanna felt her neck about to snap under Venom's grip, he released her and allowed the woman to fall to the partially melted ground below. Zatanna tried to turn her body so as to not land on her left side but she misjudged the distance and slammed into the freezing water with a pained yell. The mistress of magic tried to rise but Venom landed before her and reached down to seize the woman by the chin, forcing her to look up into his dark visage.
"It'd be easy you know, to kill you" Venom said "But I'm afraid I have other matters to attend to. But don't worry Zee, I'll be back for you soon enough"
With that, Venom released Zatanna's face and stepped back and seemed about ready to fly off before he noticed Ursa's form lying only a few meters away. With a growl, Venom approached the unconscious Kryptonian and ran a quick scan of her body before he began to chuckle as a tendril of crimson energy leaked out from his ring and slowly made it's way towards Ursa's mouth and slithered into it like a snake digging itself into a burrow. Several seconds passed before the woman's body began to violently shake as blood began to leak from her pores before a red light erupted from Ursa's mouth and spilled out and on to the ground.
"W-What are you doing to her?!" Zatanna began as she stared at the scene in horror.
Venom didn't respond as the red liquid continued to pour from Ursa's mouth before it slowly trickled down until ceasing all together. With a nod, Venom turned away from the Kryptonian and back towards Zatanna with a wide grin.
"Let's just say that I don't think Morbious will be getting anything out of her if he could- hehehehehe"
And with that, Venom shot off into the sky like a crimson comet of anger, leaving Zatanna standing there in shock before a faint tremor dragged her out of her stupor and she quickly rushed over to Ursa and see if the woman was alive or not. The woman was no longer breathing and her body had already grown pale, but what really caught Zatanna's attention was how... dry, she seemed.
Confused, Zatanna used a simple examination spell on Ursa to see what Venom had done to her before her eyes widened in shock and she stepped back and stared at the pool of red beside Ursa's head. Venom... Venom had used his ring to completely and utterly drained Ursa's body off all fluid, leaving her a dried empty husk. As powerful as Kryptonians were, there bodies still ran just like a human's in some ways, and one of the body's most vital functions was blood.
And Venom ripped it all out of the alien woman's body faster than it could replace, even with her body's functions augmented under a yellow sun...
"My god... what the hell are we gonna do?" Zatanna whispered in horror as the rest of the team that was sent to extract the Titans from the Phantom Zone arrived.
"Zee!" Kaine said as he rushed towards the raven haired beauty and slid to a stop at the sight of Ursa's body "Holy shit... what the hell happened?"
"It was Peter..." Zatanna whispered with dread as she looked up towards Kaine with tears gathering in her eyes "He... and Venom... they..."
"The Spider did this?"
Kaine and Zatanna both turned to see the First Born prodding Ursa's body with his foot, a amused grin on his face before he kicked the dead Kryptonian away with a laugh "Never knew he had it in him!"
"But how in the hell could Peter and Venom do that? Even with a super pill, there's no way he could've done that!" Grifter said with confusion before he shook his head "Wait, you know what, fuck that, where the hell did he get Venom in the first place? I thought that thing was locked up? The fuck man!"
"It was" Anti-Venom said with a snarl of annoyance as he glanced over and saw Zod's headless body lying not to far away "But Parker brought it along with him. He was intending to throw it into the Phantom Zone when shit hit the fan"
"Shit hitting the fan doesn't even begin to describe this shit show" Kaine said with a shake of his head as he kneeled down next to Zatanna and put a hand on her shoulder "Come on Zee, we need to get out of here"
"But what about the Phantom Zone projector, and the other Kryptonians?" the mistress of magic pointed towards the distant Fortress of Solitude.
"We got the big guy back into the Phantom Zone before more Regime guys showed up" Kaine said as he helped Zatanna to her feet "Ravager and Cash have already been picked up. It's just us now Zee... we need to go"
"B-But Peter!" Zatanna said with fear on her face "He's-"
"We'll find him later Zee, but right now we need to get the fuck out of here" Kaine said as he scooped Zatanna up as the jet that first dropped the extraction team off earlier began it's descent.
"Kaine, what's going on?" Zatanna asked with worry as the jet landed with a faint tremor.
Before Kaine could say anything, a bright green flash, or explosion lit up in the sky, causing everyone to pause and look up at it. Zatanna's eyes widened as the light seemed to be coming from the sun as Kaine spoke with dread in his tone.
"The Regime beat back the Lanterns Zee... and it looks like they just shoved Mogo into the sun to prove it"

Ares watched with narrowed eyes as the jet rose up from the ice before shooting off into the sky, leaving the unseen God of War alone in the cold icy tundra.
"Such rage..." he muttered under his breath, his mind elsewhere.
"I couldn't have said it better myself"
Ares turned to see Mephisto's half faded image standing only a few feet from him, looking at the devastation that Venom had wrought.
"Demon..." Ares said with annoyance.
"Godling" Mephisto responded with a chuckle as he wandered over to Ursa's body and examined it with a curious look on his face "Hmm, I've always wondered what they looked like all dried up. Now I know... eh, could've been better"
"Why are you here Mephisto?" Ares demanded.
"Just seeing the fruits of mine and yours labors come to fruition is all" Mephsito said with a shrug before he glanced towards the Fortress of Solitude "I must say, convincing Atrocitus to send a Red Lantern ring here? Brilliant, simply brilliant"
"It was merely a suggestion, I had no idea that doing so would unleash such... conflict" Ares stated as he spared a brief glance towards Zod's body "I will admit though, I'm pleased by the outcome"
"As am I little Godling, as am I" Mephisto said with a chuckle as his image began to fade "Things are moving along splendidly"
At this, the God of War narrowed his eyes in suspicion at the Demon lord "What are you planning Mephisto? what do you hope to gain from all of this?"
"Something that no one else has Ares... something so many of us desire. And with it, all of Hell will be mine..." Mephisto grinned and gave the son of Zeus a wink before he vanished, leaving the Deity alone to his thoughts.

"Wait, wait, wait, what the hell do you mean the Green Lanterns lost?" Zatanna said as she stared at Oracle's image on a tablet that Kaine gave her after he reported the team's extraction from the Fortress of Solitude "How the hell did they lose?!"
"Superman and Sinestro stretched the fight out to major population centers Zatanna. The Lanterns weren't gonna risk civilian casualties in their war. and Superman used that to his advantage" Oracle said with a heavy sigh, her eyes were red, whether it was from exhaustion or tears Zatanna didn't know or care at the moment.
"But what about Mogo?" Zatanna said, her voice becoming nearly hysterical "He's a giant fucking plant with a power ring! How the hell could Superman beat that?"
"Superman has a Yellow Lantern Ring now Zatanna" Oracle said, taking the raven haired woman back "After Canary tried to take Clark out with a kryptonite bullet, he gained possession of a yellow power ring and... well he used it to take the kryptonite bullet out and than proceeded to kill Dinah and over a dozen Green Lanterns before he attacked Ganthet. Superman than slammed Ganthet into Mogo before pushing him into the sun Zatanna..."
It was than that Zatanna remembered Venom's actions earlier, how he was about to kill her before he froze, as if he sensed something.
'No, it was Peter... Venom and the power ring he has must've enhanced his spider-sense and it went off because Superman gained a fucking power ring' Zatanna thought with quiet horror.
"W-What about the attack on the Hall of Justice?" Zatanna asked in a panicked tone "What about Felicia and Ben and the rest?"
"Their all safe" Oracle said with a sigh of relief "Thank god for small miracles... we even caught some of Superman's people while we're at it. Big ones like S-"
"Venom took control of Peter Barbara..." Zatanna said in a quiet voice "He took control and killed Zod and Ursa"

"..."
"...What?" the red head said with shock in her voice.
"Peter... Venom took control of him after Jay was killed" Zatanna said as she struggled to not look at the headless body lying a few feet from her with a blanket lying over it.
Barbra blinked at this, her eyes wide with shock "B-But... but how could he- even with a super pill he'd- ZATANNA WHAT HAPPENED UP THERE?"
"Exactly what Zatanna said Oracle" Kaine said as he took the tablet from Zatanna and looked at the red head with an unreadable expression on his face "and it seems that venom now has a red Power Ring"
"Jesus fucking H Christ" Barbara said with horror on her face.
